    Moncton bento

Ora sushi - japanese restaurant in steveston They are quite pricy to begin with and additionally because of covid. I would be down to go again but for a splurge it reminds me of takeya sushi which is delicious too but a little more pricy because of their fresh fish The food is really good quality but i cant afford to splurge 15-20 on sushi for lunch every time so this is definitely a treat. Muncton bento $20.95 8.5/10- while it was delicious i felt like it was quite pricy. The tempura was excellent and well fried. It was crispy and flaky. The vegetable and prawn inside was delicious. Ebi sunomono is super refreshing and i would definitely get it I didnt like their chicken teriyaki, i felt like it was a little more tough than i would have liked, but the flaovour is there. California rolls are well done. I won't pay 20 dollars for this again because you only get 4 items and each thing is about 5 dollars. I think the beef teriyaki would be good though! BC combo 17.95 8.5/10- shockingly expensive for a combo but you get really fresh nigiri with it so that makes sense. I got to try it thanks to a yelp review and admittedly their bc roll is different ut i don't know if i would go out of my way to order this. It was my friend's order so i dont know how good the nirgi was but it looked super fresh!

Daughter wanted plain udon in soup...?? (She likes it simple.. ) off to Yelp I went to find a restaurant we haven't been and found Ora. Love going to Steveston, just the community feel is awesome. Wasn't too busy when we arrived, some open tables and was greeted and sat right away. Very family friendly so which is great. The menu is standard with the exception of the specialty rolls and some Korean items. We ordered plain udon, Kalbi Short Ribs, Sukiyaki Beef Hot Pot, BC Roll and a special roll Oceana. The food came fast and that was unexpected, the plain udon was a big bowl and I don't think you can make it bad. The soup was dashi based with enough flavor to offset no other contributing flavours. Daughter finished the whole bowl so yeah kid approved. Kalbi Ribs came on a hot plate with a bed of veggies. There were two ribs cut into thirds, nicely seared and had teriyaki sauce on top..I'm not a big meat eater, but was tasty and what you expect from short ribs. Wife approved. Oceana roll came out and was a beautiful presentation of colours. The roll has red tuna, hamachi, wild salmon, sprouts in a soy wrap with Tobiko. It was good, but texture wise was all soft, needed some crunch and that would have been perfect. Sukiyaki Beef Hot Pot was another nice presentation. It was loaded with spinach, beef, cubes of tofu, glass noodles, cabbage and more. The flavor was a bit bland, needed some salt so I added some soy sauce and togarashi. I ate it all so was good and it was clean tasting. Now to the ...BC Roll. Not your average BC Roll, the salmon skin was fried with just the right amount of batter then rolled with some cooked salmon and the usual BC Roll sauce. The flavor was amazing and the crunch from the deep fried battered skin made this a winner. Was so good we ordered another one. I believe this is Korean owned and they served a really good dinner. Service was excellent and always had a full cup of tea. Worth a try!!

Pretty decent sushi, I had their Moncton Bento and thought it was great! However, I would leave this as a backup plan since Steveston is full of amazing sushi places where you can get something more worthwhile for the same price or just a little more

    Prawn and yam tempura

I'm never really in this part of Steveston (although, I should visit more because this area is SO cute), but I was in the area for a meeting and popped into Ora to grab a late lunch. I was welcomed with big smiles and three cheerful "hellos" upon walking in. There weren't many people in the restaurant, so I was able to pick where I wanted to sit. They have a diverse menu of rolls, nigiri, teriyaki's, donburi bowls, bento boxes and more. I decided to get the crunchy roll (prawn tempura, cucumber, avocado, tempura flakes and spicy mayo) and the prawn and yam tempura appetizer. Both dishes came out within 5 minutes, no joke. I even exclaimed "Wow! That was so quick!" The crunchy roll was yummy and came topped with a mountain of tempura flakes, which I loved. The yam and prawn tempura was fresh and yummy but the prawn tempura itself was quite smaller in comparison to other restaurants. While I was sitting, there were plenty of people coming in for take out and a few local regulars who knew exactly what I wanted, so this seems like the go to sushi spot in the area. I'd definitely come back again if I'm in the area.

    Tempura Udon (2 prawn + 2 veg)

I think I've visited Ora Sushi enough to warrant a review. Verdict? Hands down, 5 solid stars. It's a nice cozy place. The service is always amazing. Really friendly staff. The food quality, is top notch. They use wild salmon for their items, not the usual lower grade fish other sushi joints use. The must have rolls for us are Paradise Roll and 911 Roll with a side of Spicy Salmon Roll and Spicy Chopped Scallop Roll. For boxes, you can't go wrong with the Sushi+Sashimi Bento, you'll find this in the menu, not on the lunch special bento sheet. The prawn tempura is always popular with our kids, one of their favs at Ora along with the Tempura Udon -- the broth is really flavourful. If you can stomach it, or have someone to share with, go for the Ora Tower--it's a mound of fresh salmon, tuna, crab meat (imitation), rice, and greens with their special blend of delicious dressing. Mix it up and enjoy!

Top notch sushi and variety of dish offerings ! The price is competitive. A small little restaurant tucked between some Steveston businesses but a real gem . I found the service just terrific , the servers came by regularly at good intervals to check on how we were doing and if we had any further needs. I had the bimibap for $15.95 and it was so tasteful and fresh. The idle like soup spoon for the Udon bowls adds such a nice touch. I would come here again for sure , a surprisingly special place. Good things can come in small packages

It's hard to find a decently priced restaurant in Steveston when it's 4pm, simply because most of them open for dinner from 5pm onwards. Luckily Ora was open and I managed to get some food in me. I got an Ora dinner bento ($19) because I wanted to sample a bit of everything. The ebi sunomono was deliciously refreshing. When the rest of the bento arrived, I decided to prioritize eating the hot food first as I find in general it doesn't do well over time. The tempura was fried well with a nice layer of crisp around it. It wasn't at all excessively oily. I found that the 2pc ebi and 2pc veggies they offered were a good amount to get my tempura fix. The 3pc of gyoza was cooked well too bring slightly crispy on the outside. Nothing too exciting about them. I chose chicken teriyaki as my protein choice and it was acceptable. The sauce was good but the chicken was a bit funny at times. There were parts where I had to eat around as it would be too hard to eat it otherwise. I tried some salad but immediately gave up on it as it didn't have any dressing. The crunch roll was good considering it was a California roll with ebi, tempura crunch, and sauces. I was pretty full at this point, but I enjoyed the taste. They forgot my miso soup but it promptly came out when I asked for it. Well flavoured with lots of that miso taste. Overall, I would go here again for some of their special rolls and a miso soup. The bento box was good for what I was getting but it was just too much for me to handle by myself.

We found this little gem in Steveston! Fresh, delicious sushi and sashimi. Great presentation and great creative sushi too. Looking forward to come back!

What's not to like about the 'sleepy old fishing village' where Ora Sushi is located! In fact right outside the restaurant is Moncton St - where many movies & currently the hit TV show - Once Upon a Time - are filmed! I've had take out brought to me a few times & so today was my first time to sit down inside the restaurant. OS is a small pleasant Japanese restaurant. It is adequate for Steveston - however for larger groups call ahead as they were extremely busy on my visit! The staff are friendly & the owner is a very wonderful lady! We ordered 5 dishes & we were not disappointed! See pics below! Every dish had a unique taste & we polished off everything! After eating at OS - I recommend a walk through Steveston Village & head towards Garry Point Park - for spectacular views! You'll be glad you did!

May, 12, 2019 @ dinner I read reviews here and mentioned the service was not that good... not really.. they are fast and friendly. Maybe we ordered a lot. It look like run by Japanese ladies, with Asian servers. I saw Japanese ladies cashier, at kitchen and sushi maker. We had reservation at 7:30pm.. they gave us table right away with my name on their note. We got nice window seats with a lot of flowers around us. We ordered: 1 bottle of large kirin to start... then slowly look through the menu. Their menu look like mega sushi to us. Then we ordered: Prawn tempura... its pretty hot, crispy, fresh and natural sweet from the prawns... we like this one.. Grilled Saba... skin not crispy enough.. tasteless .. I didn't eat it after 2 bites.. my hubby finished for me... Special salmon belly sushi... big piece of salmon tataki on top of rice, but not tasty as mega Toro sushi... it's so fresh and cheap... we ordered 2 pcs first then ordered 6 pcs more Saba sushi... tiny pcs... soso Tobiko sushi... they gave us red color , not orange color one.. Japanese manager suddenly came out and served us with big smile, even not busy.. I found out next few tables from us.. didn't order that much food , like us... LOL Uni nigiri sushi... so fishy , not fresh, no wonder so cheap?! $4.50 each..I had already told my hubby.. it's not season anymore.. but he still ordered it.. Hamachi toro sushi... so good and fresh.. we totally ordered 6 pcs 1 more large kirin... Unagi sushi... too lean... dried... falling apart Oysters tempura... so tiny.. exactly like mega Spicy chicken karaage.... batter was too thick, not much meat inside... I ate one piece and didn't touch it... just pack to go.. I paid... $154.85 + 18% tips... for 2 of us... not bad.. worth to try.. Will go there again for sushi and sashimi, but not cook food

This is the one of reasonable price Japanese restaurant in Steveston. The ingredients are fresh.I like Uni and Ikura very mush. The sushi rice is not warm and too sweet but not sour.

My wife and I came here for lunch. We ordered oyster motoyaki, yam tempura and a teriyaki chicken bento box. The oyster motoyaki is one of the best. Unlike others, their oyster motoyaki was not overpowered by mayonnaise. The spinach they added to the motoyaki complements the oyster very well. The yam tempura was not oily; they were crunchy with lightly coated batter. The bento box was good; except that an improvement would be to use real crab meat in their California rolls instead of using imitation crab meat. I don't mind pay a bit more to get real crab meat. The servers were very polite and served us well. For instance, when one of the servers saw my serviettes fell on the floor, she immediately offered me another one. We would definitely go back to this place again.

This place was great. I ordered a large order for take out yesterday. It was all fresh and tasty. We ordered so many rolls with avocado and it was all perfectly ripe. And so reasonably prices. The owner was relaxed and friendly. We'll definitely be back.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.

I got a whole four-top to myself. I had quite the appetite so I decided to order the Bite of Everything dinner set which was very aptly named. It had chicken karaage, gyoza, miso soup, ebi sunomono, a few pieces of a Cali roll, 6 pieces of nigiri (salmon, tuna, ebi, tai, scallop, unagi), a few cubes of tuna "carpaccio" and an orange slice. Paired it with 5oz of some hot sake. Before getting into the food, I'll say I had a pleasant dinner and it's at par with restaurants at its relative price point. $42 before tip to be tipsy and full is a deal. Similar quality to Ganbei nearby which I've frequented several times. This is a quantity vs quality place. The best thing on the tray was the chicken karaage. And at a very close second was the ebi sunomono. Karaage was battered well, very juicy. Sunomono was a refreshing, tangy, and sweet accompaniment. The actual sushi is where it fell off. Each piece was amateurishly put together; some nigiri had hard rice, fish tasted flat, rice wasn't seasoned. It passes for a mid-range sushi restaurant, but it won't blow you away. Respectable 3/5

The sashimi was very fresh and bouncy. We also got the asari (clam) udon and there were plenty of clams, as well the broth was so rich! Their sushi rolls weren't anything special but the sauces were delicious. Only thing was the hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar) - it was a bit dry, but it was huge. I also want to note that it seems like they use real wasabi (not the pasty stuff but the actual grated horseradish) so that was pretty cool. Would love to come back!!
