Akari is located in a strip mall. Price, quality and size is definitely a thumb up. I got the California combo and on top, I added a chop scallop roll. Portion size was huge. The California roll here is definitely bigger than what you would usually get at other Japanese restaurants. I liked the gomae the most. Plenty of sauce. Sauce is what makes the gomae tasty. Their spicy roll had a very generous amount of salmon. Service is a ok. Nothing too wow on service. We asked for a pot of tea. They weren't happy about giving it to us. But again, I think they later realized the times that they had to go and refill our tea pot. They had to refill our tea pots every 20 mins. If I didn't ask for a pot, it would be every 5 mins. I also liked their green tea or tea that they provided. It was definitely good quality tea. I highly recommend giving this place a try. read more

WOW. 'Nuff said. The real question here is what did I NOT love about Akari? I was in the area with a friend and since I'm not too familiar with the sushi options in this area, I hopped on Yelp and Akari was the first one listed. After looking through their menu, we popped on over. They have officially re-opened for dine in, which is what we did. The tables have all been spaced to respect social distancing, there is a takeout/pick up area towards the front, and all the staff are wearing masks. They have an assortment of specialty rolls, nigiris, and other Japanese dishes on their menu. Honestly, everything looked delicious; I had such a hard time deciding what to get! I decided to go for the yam crunch roll (prawn, yam, tempura, cucumber, avocado, topped with yam tempura, sprinkled with spicy flakes) and hot night roll (prawn, yam tempura, avocado, cucumber topped with spicy tuna & tobiko). I LOVED both rolls so much. Each bite was jam packed with spice, sauce, and flavour. The rolls were only around $11-$13, which for what we got is extremely affordable. Rolls this size are usually $15+ at other restaurants. Between the prices, sushi quality, and friendly and great service, this place is one of my new favourite sushi spots. There's a reason that they've been voted best Japanese restaurant in this area. Definitely worth the trip out here. I was here with my buddy C earlier for late lunch. Akari is the closest Japanese restaurant in Delta as I looked it up on Yelp earlier. Price is kind of expensive, but food is decent. I ordered Negitoro Roll ($4.50) and BC Roll ($5) and C got Rock Cracker Roll ($12) and Rock Cracker Roll was the BEST thing ever. Fresh and nicely made rolls with some crumbs which got shrimp in it along with deep fried scallops. So much flavour and it was crispy and delicious. No wonder it was recommended by other yelpers. I liked my food as well. The rolls were nicely made and it didn't break apart. They make great rolls here and the service was fast. Will return if I'll be around Delta. read more

I have been coming to Akari since moving to the area about 15 years ago. This is the best sushi place around Surrey and North Delta. The fish is so fresh and melts in your mouth. They have the best specialty rolls out there! So many options. Tonight we decided to go bento box as we both felt like a warm meal. Ordered the special box which had a nice assortment. Love the chicken karaage. Gyoza was not cooked well. A little crunchy on the outside rather than cooked and crispy. Also had the seafood bento box. Fish was amazing and the smoked salmon roll was so good! Service was a bit lacking this time around, had to flag her a few times but normally its good. read more

I have both eaten in and taken out. The service and food for both is amazing! This is actually one of the first Japanese restaurants I've been to and is now the reason why I'm addicted to sushi! When we eat in we always ask for the private booths as it's nice knowing no one can see me fumble with my chopsticks and attempt to stuff a huge yam role in my face. Best Japanese food in the Delta/Surrey area. Not authentic Japanese but it's close. Clean, good friendly service.

I don't rate 4-stars that easily, especially for sushi joints (my 2nd favourite cuisine), and certainly out in the burbs lol. But I digress. The rating's more for their ambience, layout & friendly service. Taste-wise, it's good enough for repeat visits, as I still feel the Vancouver ones are a notch up. Decor is nicer than casual, and on the left, cool, private booths with those paper wall/doors to pull open/close...and different sections throughout. If I recall, even some imitation cherry blossoms hanging lol. Good value; would've preferred the cali roll to be more bite-sized, though generous portion of black sesame seeds. The spicy crunch roll would be a repeat for me, a real kick to it. Clean washrooms. A place to recommend for big groups & some action. yes, another Korean-run joint, yay. I was greeted immediately by friendly Japanese staff. The decor and music are beautiful. It feels wonderful and relaxing in here like a spa. I ordered the bento box with tempura, chicken teriyaki, salad and some sort of deep fried treat. The chicken was perfectly grilled. The tempura was fresh. I also ordered an appetizer sashimi. Fresh and wonderful. Also had a nicely peeled sweet orange. They checked up on me frequently which was nice. Too many restaurants have given up and not strived for customer satisfaction. Food 7/10, service 6.5/10. Interior is clean and not an eyesore. I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento and it was alright. I feel the tempura was great but chicken was too rubbery. The house salad was great but the side scallop/seafood motoyaki was gross. I had no idea wtf it was but once I put it into my mouth, I gagged. I usually can eat and hold anything down. Call me iron stomach, but this one little thing ruined my whole meal. The waiter is rude, waitress is non existent. The tempura and salad is what made me decide 3 stars or else it would be 2. There's a Japanese place in this strip mall let's give it a try! He of course said yes! Akari Japanese Restaurant is a authentic Japanese restaurant hidden a way in a strip mall in Delta! If they were situated in Downtown Vancouver they would be the toast of the town! As my real estate agent would say... Location! Location! Location! I ordered their sashimi bento box. It was a Big Thumbs up! . The fish was very fresh, and top grade cuts of salmon and tuna. Not the cheap stuff! For 12ish bucks they fill you up pretty good. This probably is the best tasting food I've ever had everything is the correct temperature the spicy tofu was delicious and very spicy and the miso soup oh my god there's no words to describe it it's like god in soup form, also it is super nice it has a bunch of cool art and they even have kinda like a private room that you can eat in, but there's not a lot of option in the menu and it's a bit too pricey but other than that I would say it's an amazing restaurant I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. So, if you live in Surrey or Delta, you've probably noticed a dearth of good sushi places. Sure, there are some that are ok and passable, but for myself and my family, there just isn't that go to place. Until we all went to Akari, that is. Right off the get go, the first thing you notice is the ambiance of the restaurant. You can tell they put some effort into it, and it really is a step above the other sushi restaurants. The lighting is just right, and the stone work and private rooms are also very well done. Others have made comments about the music, but I didn't notice it since I wasn't really focused on it. The servers were all really nice, and spoke Japanese to my grandmother and they all seemed very personable and friendly and very accommodating. While they may not have spoken Japanese to all their patrons there, I'm certain they are just as friendly and accommodating to their other patrons. The wait for our seats was non-existant (we went during lunch) and we were greeted more or less instantaneously. During our stay, I noticed that they knew several customers by name, obviously signs of a regular customer base that enjoy this fine establishment. We were given sufficient time to look over our menus, and the server was super helpful and super patient with my grandmother. The lunch menu was a pretty good deal. For about $13 or less you could order from one of their special sushi menus which comes with a side dish (tempura, chicken karage, takoyaki etc, I can't recall all the choices) along with miso soup, and salad. Our family ordered a variety of combinations so we tried a solid amount of choices on the menu. I myself opted for the Tiger Rolls and Takoyaki. To be honest, I was just expecting standard fare sushi, but this place clearly likes to distinguish itself on its presentation. The devil, they say, is in the details and this is true here. Instead of just your typical roll layout, they arrange the sushi (at least for my plate, there were variations on others items) in an almost cherry blossom like arrangement. If I was taught one thing by my mother about food, it's that presentation goes a long ways. Even my mother was impressed (which is saying a lot for a restaurant). How did it taste? My beef with a lot of sushi places, is that they tend to freeze their food in order to keep it edible over time. Understandable, but not desirable. None of the sushi or sashimi that we ordered had any hint, whatsoever that it had ever been in the freezer. The salmon sashimi melted in my mouth, and was very soft and tasty. My Tiger rolls were surprisingly refreshing and not too heavy. My brother ordered the Hot Night roll (spicy tuna topping on a roll - can't recall what was inside) and it was just the right amount of spice. The tuna also melted in your mouth, and the rest of the roll was plenty flavourful. My mother had the crunchy roll, and that too was just as fresh and tasty as the others. The side dishes were also very, very well made. The takoyaki was cooked to perfection, the tempura was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the chicken kebab (I can't recall the actual name of them right now) was also crispy on the outside and super flavourful on the inside. All in all, it's just a fantastic place to go for Japanese food. Refills on tea were quick and expedient, and the portions of food were just right, not too heavy, and not too light. We left feeling very satisfied and are for sure to return when we want some sushi. Do yourself a favour and check out this hidden gem. read more

When I called in to place my order I mentioned that I was vegan and the guy on the phone was so nice to tell me what I could have and what I needed to remove to make it Vegan friendly. Came here with a groupon with my friends (It was $25 for $50 worth of food) and it was good for 4 people. As we came in we got tea and were offered drinks. The menu is the same as most other japanese restaurants, they have a section of different rolls such as deep fried california roll (I think its called the crazy roll). We ordered that and 2 chicken karaages, chicken teriyaki roll, 2 BC rolls and prawn and pork gyoza. Food came out fast and everything was very fresh, we got refills of tea and the service was excellent. They have private booths there but I reccomend you reserve ahead of time because those get booked up. Very good japanese restaurant, will definitely be back if im in the area. xx read more

Had my first visit here today. Loved the private booths. Extremely spacious and comfortable. I had the chicken teriyaki bento box and it was nothing special. First visit. Walked in and immediately loved the Japanese decor. Very classy and clean. Staff is very friendly. Seated quickly at our choice. People were talking quietly with occasional laughter. The ambience is great. Waitress came immediately to get our drink order. Happily changed my sons cold water to warm water when requested with a happy smile. Food came quickly. First ever shrimp Gyoza for me and tasted amazing. The sashimi is very fresh. Teriyaki chicken is delicious and they didn't skimp on the veggies. Agassi tofu was soft and not rubbery or chewy. I got very tasty California roll with roe in top. It was very good. I couldn't finish the tray and had to take the California roll home. Unlike other sushi trays, the portions are full size. 3 piece Gyoza, 3 piece sashimi, full size 6 piece California roll, 3 piece agadeshi tofu, 4oz chicken and 1/2 cup shredded veggies. My son ordered the beef udon. It is a very big bowl. He's a picky eater at age 5 but was having a great time using fork and his fingers to suck back the long noodles. He only stopped to get a sip of hot water and quickly got back to eating. He sucked back the miso. Always a good sign as he only eats "tasty yummy" food. "It's very tasty mommy". They did not check up on us halfway through dinner so My tea went cold. When they did check, it was when we were finished and i had to ask for a tea refill. My tray was $20 and my sons udon was $10. The food was excellent for the price and I am happy to pay it. They are very good with children and treated my son with 5 tiny candies at the end. The only other negative I have is our table legs were uneven so the table was constantly jiggling and my son was able to push it around easily which got very annoying halfway through dinner. read more

Definitely a fan. The food quality is top notch. I have yet to find such a generous bowl of veggie udon anywhere else, and I I go to lots of Japanese restaurants, but I always come back to this one. When I order veggie udon anywhere else I get a ton of white lettuce pieces, half a mushroom and maybe a broccoli stem, but here I get a TON of various asian veggies in an incredibly delicious broth, a true Japanese veggie udon. I've also tried lots of other items there and have not been disappointed. The services is a bit lacking, but overall it's a great place I highly recommend. read more
