Food great. Service is so slow and poor. Every-time we go in there we get seated right away and I swear we sit and sit no water no tea. After 15 min we have to wave the waitress down. The sushi here is really good if you love rolls. I rarely give 5 stars but this place was great. My kids loved the bento box and the fish is very fresh. They even gave my kids cute little kids mugs for water. Service is also good too. Place is tiny so there can be a wait but they get you in and out fast. read more

We were craving sushi and everything we looked at was closed on Tuesdays. I've been here before and enjoyed my meal, so we ordered take out. I'm so glad we did!! The cool thing was we ordered before they opened and our food was still ready in 30 minutes! Rolled in at 5:20 and our food was ready!! I absolutely loved the scallop hand roll. So many times they end up soggy and limp by the time you eat them. This wasn't that bad. I thought Todd's way was great, but my son didn't care for it. I ate the whole roll!! He loved the deep fried California roll, that he added cream cheese and cucumber to. I was surprised I liked it too. The salmon nigiri was just okay. I'll try different nigiri next time. Overall, I enjoyed trying something new and will put this on our restaurant rotation for take out. We enjoyed everything so much I didn't even get a chance to take photos. read more

We had seaweed salad (looked good, I didn't try it), garden salad (ok), and these rolls: - Spider Roll - tasty, but maybe a bit messy with the amount of sauce on it - 49er Roll - this was mine. I have been here twice and enjoyed the food both times. I do think it's better quality than some of the other local sushi spots I have tried. I don't remember specific rolls or items ordered but I would definitely recommend it to friends/family. Service was less attentive the second visit but I would still return. Small downside- location is a bit outside of the downtown area and no patio which is a bummer. read more

We had a very enjoyable birthday dinner for my husband. We tried the grilled Edamame with garlic oil appetizer, miso soup, Rainbow roll, Caterpillar Roll, California roll, Happy Day roll, Spicy tuna roll and the tempura udon soup. The edamame was very tasty with a slight taste of garlic and the smokiness from been grilled. Our favorite rolls were the Caterpillar and the Rainbow. I also enjoyed the tempura udon, which came with a side salad. Parking outside in their lot was limited, so arrive early, otherwise you may need to park in a nearby street and walk over. read more

We arrived at 6pm Friday night for dinner and grabbed one of the last available indoor tables. It started getting very busy after we arrived, so glad we went early. We came for the food, so I'll get right into it! The miso soup was good. I didn't love the salad dressing in the salad, but my husband finished that for me. The grilled edamame was yummy but a bit too oily for our preference. The red dragon roll was great - the tempura was well fried and it was very spicy, as expected! Really fresh sushi! My husband ordered chicken teriyaki and I ordered bento box with chicken teriyaki, CA roll, and gyoza. The chicken was a bit over cooked, it was difficult to chew. The rice was surprisingly not sticky, it was kind of dry and difficult to hold with chopsticks. But the other items were great! When we come back again we will definitely go for the sushi. The menu had so many different kinds of rolls but this time around we only got one, so many more to choose from! Overall the service was good and on par with a small, but busy restaurant. Like a Japanese restaurant off a small side street in Tokyo. A warm greeting from the staff and I'm sat at my favorite table. Look to the daily specials for some unique and exquisite fresh fish. You must have the fresh wasabi to complement the sushi. Start with some hot appetizers, a salad (the Albacore Tataki has amazing flavor), a simple California roll with 100% real crab, and a variety of nigiri's. I went to this place because I needed to get dinner. I ordered 4 rolls, it was $57. The women, Cecilia, added extra money to 2 rolls and added a bag fee when I NEVER ASKED FOR ONE. She flashed the receipt in my face before I could even look at it. I never asked for a bag and she put a 10 cents fee. Wow. On their website the salmon skin roll is $8.5 but got charged $14 and the Spicy salmon roll was $7 but got charged $12. Plus there wasn't much food. My order should've been at least $10 LESS. The salad & miso soup were great appetizers, the greens were fresh & crunchy with just enough dressing, and the miso soup was the classic salty soul-warming goodness you expect out of a good bowl of miso. The edamame was good, and it had comradely ground salt, which made some bites much saltier than others, but not too overwhelming. I got the sushi roll that combined my two go to's: unagi and salmon! Sushi Hanabi has been around a while and I've read many positive reviews from my Yelp friends, so my wife and I decided to try them out. We were there for a late lunch and were seated right away. They have an extensive menu along with fresh fish specials. I settled for the 3 item Bento box which has multiple combo options. Three item bento box comes with rice salad and miso soup. Teriyaki beef was excellent it was actually skirt steak. Grilled salmon will cooked perfectly small portion though. Tempura shrimp 3 medium sized battered shrimp was OK. Sashimi Halibut excellent also included a slice of Engawa the fin edge of the fish Ankimo was OK Sea bass was mediocre, the fish was fresh but just your everyday local sea bass / sheepshead. The best dish was Jim's Taco which was spicy tuna and crab meat in a lettuce wrap. Service was very attentive. There are limited parking spaces in the strip center but might be hard to get during peak dining hours. $76 before tip. read more

The service was also great, my party did not show up all at the same time so we were seated much later than our reservation time but we appreciate the host holding our table that long and checking in with us. Our server was also very nice, she checked in periodically and was happy to answer our questions. The fish used in the sushi was very high quality, and they do not skimp out on the amount of fish they put in and on top of the rolls! It's hard to impress my SO when it comes to sushi joints, but this place really left an impression on him! We were on our way back home from Livermore and did not want to go to Amakara, so we decided to stop by here. They have a wide selection of freshly made rolls. The waitress even gave us a couple of suggestions based on the rolls I had ordered. Everything was delicious! The fish was fresh and not super "fishy" tasting. We left full, happy, and wanting more! I've been craving for sushi for so long!! Haven't had the courage to eat raw food since March when everything started to close down due to COVID-19. But a few days ago I caved in and went to Sushi Hanabi where I knew would be clean and safe - I dined there previously (pre-covid) for my brothers birthday! And without a doubt, Sushi Hanabi did not let me down! Once you enter, there are tables blocking off the front portion of the restaurant. The tables are set with a sanitizing station, payment station, menu, etc. I was surprised they even had clean/dirty trays for pens. Since we didn't know what to order yet, we picked up a menu (printed version) and headed outside to decide what we wanted. Then we went back in, ordered, and paid (they asked us to insert the card ourselves so there was no contact whatsoever). Simple and easy! They did have outdoor seating but there's no service offered outside - you can order take out and enjoy your food outside. We just ate in the car :P The restaurant also had "one party at a time" signs to avoid crowding inside the small space available inside. Overall, I think the restaurant is taking great measures to ensure everybody's safety! Next time I'm craving for sushi, I'll be sure to come back :) read more

My first time there - Food was decent, we came in at 5 pm on a Monday. I ordered a roll with fried tempura shrimp in the center and it came super quickly. Almost a little too fast - now I know why. The shrimp inside was COLD and probably leftover from lunch or earlier that day. I said something to our waitress and the best she could do was tell me it wasn't freshly made because " it would cook the raw fish on top" of my roll. Really?!? I didn't say anything - I have been at plenty of other good quality Sushi restaurants where I ordered a roll with tempura battered and fried shrimp inside because I love the crunch, - but especially because I adore the contrast between the cool rice and the raw fish with the warm texture and temperature enhanced flavor of the fried shrimp. If this is how Sushi Hanabi operates, it's just not my style or to my taste. I didn't even finish more than a few pieces of this roll. I still left a 40% tip because the interior was super cute and I didn't want to take out my ire or disdain on the server. I won't likely come back or even recommend Sushi Hanabi to my friends. If they had the same experience as me, my credibility would be shot. read more

Sushi Hanabi is located in a small complex located right at the intersection of Stanley and Main and can very easily go overlooked due to the understated exterior. It's just outside what can be a busy corridor on Main Street with the foot traffic of boutique shoppers as well as dog walkers and restaurant connoisseurs, so the more quiet, tucked-away aspect lends a more relaxed vibe. I was pleasantly surprised upon entering my first time here to see it was a warm, clean, cozy interior with all the wood accents, hip music playing and a casual feel with cool paper lantern type lighting adorning the overhead. Each time I come, I am immediately greeted with a friendly welcome & smile, which is always a plus. This location can get busy at times, however the friendly & professional service hasn't wavered at all in my experience. What I dig here: I never feel as if I'm being "that patron" - you know, the one who asks for substitutions up the ying yang. "Can I get the number 5, but hold the number 5 and add blah and blah - oh - and don't forget the extra blah on the side." (I'm really not that bad lol). My waitresses have been understanding each time I explain I am vegetarian and I don't feel at all as if I am putting anyone about in making my slight adjustments. My Go To's: Agedashi: Each time I order, I request it sans bonito (smoked fish flake) that traditionally accompanies the dish and is served atop the tofu. My waitresses have been very attentive and ensure when I order it, that it comes exactly as requested, to fit my veg lifestyle. Instahappy camper. Grilled Edamame: I really enjoy this dish here. The grilling lends a smoky profile to the edamame and the garlic used is never overpowering, nor is it served over-salted. I'd order my own order of this stuff, it's so damn good - so good in fact, sorry but not sorry, I ain't sharing if I'm dining with someone. Get your own. Seaweed Salad: I'm a sucker for the stuff. Not oversalted, always fresh here. Veggie Tempura: I mean, it's a given. Served crisp, flavorfully delicious and not swimming in grease. Vegan Roll: Nice sized roll packed with very fresh spring mix, cucumber & avocado. I've ordered this in other establishments and am always disappointed with the itty bitty super slim excuse for a "roll" that comes out. Here at Sushi Hanabi, this is not the case. The rice used almost melts in your mouth and the produce within simply screams of freshness. Beer: Nice selections of Japanese Craft Beer. Kawaba Craft Beer from Gunma, Japan is a must-try. They have a Snow Weizen and Sunrise Ale of which I tried the latter and loved it. You can also find your other sushi house traditional beers like Asahi, Sapporo as well as sake and wines. One word of advice: I noted on my last visit a family who sent their child in of about 12 or 13 yrs. old to announce the size of their party (who sends their kids in, anyway to do their dirty work) while the rest of their caravan was still outside half an hour before closing and the main lady working quickly answered sharply "We're closed!" No "sorry". I felt a bit bad because it certainly wasn't the kid's fault - but hey, that's kinda what you get when you show up expecting to dine right before closing time. Be considerate, folks and at least take the denial like a grown adult instead of sending your kid in. Funny folks, I tell ya! I've never had a sushi roll come that was on fire until tonight. The burning roll was not only a sight to see but was very tasty. I also got the unagi which was a generous portion and also very tasty.
