My granddaughter's favorite sushi restaurant is Sushi House. We have been coming here since she was 3 months old. She is now a teenager and we always enjoy the sushi here. It is such a wonderful restaurant and the fish is fresh and the portions are large. We always get our California rolls, miso soup, and salad. This time we added an order of edamame. It was delicious. The restaurant is clean and decorated with Asian inspired art. Service is always excellent and it feels so welcoming and inviting. We went here for the lunch specials. Excellent quality and value! We had a bento box and a lunch sushi. Both came with a very good miso soup. There are only 4 tables. The one down side is they serve the food in go containers. I don't think they get enough eat in to merit buying plates/bowls. It was strictly a takeout for years. This place is unassuming I am not sure what I expected but something different but I was wowed away buy the food and service. One note that I think is huge is the lady that served me knew multiples orders before they even ordered. I remember her telling one gentlemen that she noticed he didn't like his roll last time so to try something different. That is AMAZING and above and beyond the basic standard of customer service. Sushi House in Rockville is a solid spot with great value. Their lunch specials are a great deal, and the sushi quality is consistently good. I've never had a disappointing experience here. The server is extremely nice and impressively talented at memorizing multiple orders without missing a beat. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, with light wood accents--nothing fancy, but it's perfect for a quick, reliable sushi stop. I usually go for the crunchy spicy salmon rolls (CSS) and a crunchy spicy tuna hand roll (CST). The fish is perfectly cubed and sized--not ground up like other places--so the texture and mouth feel are much better. The marinade is subtle, enhancing the natural flavor of the fish without overpowering it. The rice-to-fish ratio is spot on, about 75% fish to 25% rice, which makes for a great balance in every bite. Like many places, Sushi House took a big hit during COVID, especially with remote work cutting down their lunch crowd. As a result, they've lost a lot of the regulars who would normally stop by during the day. Sometimes, I don't want a whole production of going to eat, and I like just walking in, placing my order and enjoying my food. So many places are what I call "frou frou," but not Sushi House. They changed their format a little: now, they only offer dine-in for lunch hours. We love the hand rolls here--the nori is always crunchy, crunchier than any other nori we've ever had. Little things matter--even the miso is absolutely delicious and full of seaweed, scallion, and tofu. The salmon trio is a stand-out. I ate at the restaurant and order udon, but instead of a regular dish bowl, they gave me a paper bowl and plastic spoon and had me pour my udon in portions myself. I ordered Tamago and the lady taking the order kept repeating with an annoyed emphasis the work "tamago" with what I guess was meant to demonstrate proper pronunciation and just stared at me when I tried to repeat the word to learn from her. They were nice as I was taking my food to go. However, I had to call back later after gettinf sick from eating the shrimp tempura that weren't cleaned properly and still have the black vein in each shrimp. I got attitude and told not to come back because it was the first time anyone complained about this and she refused to check with the chef and kept defending that they DID clean the shrimp. When I responded that I have the shrimp still and am looking at the veins, she just repeatedly told me "thank you but don't come back" and that she would refund me only because she doesn't want to see me again. But I was so nice and patient both in person and on the phone yet she kept interrupting me and insulted me. Never ever going back here again and do NOT recommend. read more

The quality of the sushi is decent, and I can always bank on this place to satisfy my craving for sushi. My favorite rolls here are the dragon roll and the inner harbor roll. The crunchy spicy scallops roll is also an excellent choice and a cheaper alternative to the inner harbor roll. If you're in the area during the weekday for lunch, they have a 3 for $13 roll (no special rolls included, also may have increased in price now) deal that is great. I usually get the spicy tuna, yellowtail and scallion, and an eel and avocado with the deal. This is my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant! I've been coming here for years because their fish is always fresh. My favorites include the Alaskan (fresh salmon avocado), yellow tail, dragon roll, spider maki, inner harbor roll -without the crunch, and the spicy scallop hand roll. I also order the tofu appetizer and salmon bento box for the kids. Their lunch specials are great too. When I have family visiting a party tray is the easiest and has something for everyone. They're always friendly and they will know you by your order! Not to throw shade at any other sushi restaurants... but Sushi House has real crab on the menu, in addition to crab sticks. There is a bit of Japanese art on the walls but otherwise it is a bit dreary. Certainly not a place to take a date. Compared to other sushi nearby, this place does not shine but the portions are large and affordable. I have a very good miso soup for only $1.50 and the Chirashi bowl, which was stuffed with tuna salmon, tilapia, and shrimp. It was quite a large bowl but really not very tasty. The owners / operators appear to be Chinese - not Japanese. However, they are very friendly and cheerful, so service was nice. We were hungry and we left with full bellies. A small little restaurant in the middle of Rockville MD that is actually pretty good in terms of Japanese food. The place is sparsely furnished, there is no ambiance whatsoever. The dishes are served in take-out plastic containers, most likely caused by the pandemic shutdown take-out wave. But you can't beat the price for the amount of food served. I love this place! It may not look like much on the outside but this small restaurant on Rockville Pike is one of my favorite sushi places in MD! I've been there a handful of times and I know a lot of people who order their party platters from there. The only sushi restaurant in this area whose rolls I actually like is unfortunately in VA. I think the biggest disappointment for me here is that their spider roll would be more accurately labeled as spider amputee roll. Half the fun of eating a spider roll is looking like Cthulhu while nomming the end pieces, but here it gets doubled back into the roll. Presentation on the rolls we tried were cute and not overly dressed. Preferred the Inner Harbor roll over the Shrimp Tango, Dragon maki, and Red Dragon rolls. Fried dumplings were crispy, shumai and fried tofu pretty standard, idako seasoned but overcooked. Edamame lightly salted and not over-steamed. Chirashi is reasonably priced: a simple assortment of average freshness sliced generously. I didn't care for the chicken meat in the udon soup, but the noodles are thick and robustly chewy and the broth has the right amount of sodium levels.
