Yesterday my husband and I had lunch here and I have strong feelings about our experience. The atmosphere was nice, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was good. Is it the best ramen I've ever had? No, but it was good and it was pleasant until it wasn't. A man came in to the restaurant and approached my husband and I. I thought he was going to try and sell us something as this has happened to me a few times here in El Paso. I'm not from here, my husband is stationed here and I haven't seen anything like this since I was a young adult living in the inner city of Los Angeles. So while I'm not alarmed by this, I am put off by it. This experience was different though, the man was panhandling. I have never ever been approached for money inside an establishment. It was very awkward as my Spanish is extremely elementary and my husband doesn't speak it. I tried to explain to the man that I didn't have cash on me and was desperately hoping the staff would kindly help the man. He lingered for a long time, almost ruining our lunch. The man waiting on us saw and did nothing. Listen, I'm not heartless but I can't help every person panhandling. The staff should take care of this situation and not pass on the responsibility to their customers. I'm sorry but this looks very poorly on the City of El Paso which I hate to say, I think it's a wonderful beautiful city. If I were not Latina or hadn't experienced similar situations like this in my youth I'd have been clutching my pearls and would have left. I know this will come off as heartless, it broke my heart. I don't know this man or his situation and I couldn't properly communicate with him, put on the spot at that. Please, staff at establishments, handle these situations in kind, dignified ways to both your customers and people fallen on hard times- it's your responsibility, not the customer's. read more

Honestly, I was really hoping that this place would be good based on Google Reviews (big mistake right there), but I was terribly mistaken. Upon entering, you would notice a tarpaulin banner acting as a sign. This was very noticeable since we arrived for dinner, and you can compare it to the other neon signs with neighboring establishments. This gave me the notion that this place was relatively new. Stepping inside, the layout oddly feels like this place used to be a sports bar with the multiple screens mounted on the walls. There was a massive bar with a good amount of seating as well. The tables and chairs seemed to be very mismatched as the chairs were quite low to comfortable place your elbows on the table. Again, this might be a new place and just used some alternative seating before investing into new furniture- definitely nothing wrong with that. We were greeted by a pleasant girl (I unfortunately didn't get the name) and asked for our orders. She was the most notable thing about this place though- at least compared to the meal we had. We ordered ebi (shrimp) tempura and takoyaki as appetizers since we were all starving. They came out at a reasonable time and they were really good! There was enough octopus in the takoyaki (rare for most places) and the tempura tasted a bit like instant batter but it was fried well. The unfortunate star of the show was the ramen. We all ordered the Don tonkatsu ramen and it was disappointing. The broth was incredibly salty, which ruined the whole dish. The noodles, toppings and pork were fine, but not particularly outstanding. The broth was almost good with the flavor, but the saltiness was too overpowering that it was difficult to finish the ramen. I hope they can remedy the ramen broth somehow, but it might be a while until I come back as a customer. read more

We came here for our anniversary (totally forgot until the morning of ) and ended up discovering it was also Don Ramen Bar's grand opening--perfect timing! From the outside it looks small, but inside it's super spacious with colorful wall art (same artist as Yamaguchi Ramen). There's a mix of booths, tables, and bar seating--we chose a booth, which was great for the kids. Food was excellent: * Bao buns - smoky pork belly, soft and flavorful (I just wished for a touch more umami). * Takoyaki - perfect size and stuffed with generous pieces of octopus. * Birria ramen - spicy, rich, and absolutely addictive. My favorite dish of the night. * Sushi rolls - portions were huge, almost too big to eat in one bite, but tasty. The Don Roll was fried (my husband loved it), and the Surf & Turf had great flavor. Drinks were fun too--I had a fizzy honeydew milk tea, and my husband got a massive 32oz beer in a mason jar. The kids enjoyed their ramen with toppings on the side, and the "spice bombs" let you customize the heat level. The service was great--attentive and friendly. The owners even came by to chat, and they surprised us with shots for our anniversary since it was their big night too. Portions were generous, and we left with lots of leftovers. We also loved the bonus of live karaoke--someone sang K-pop songs and our kids loved it. For about $100 we had two appetizers, five entrees, drinks, and a great time. Totally worth it. Overall, this place has awesome food, a fun atmosphere, and late-night hours (open till 11 pm). I'd absolutely come back just for the birria ramen--it's that good. Terrible experience at this place ever! We order or 2 Ramen soups after almost an HOUR of waiting and no show we left this TERRIBLE PLACE!!! I don't recommend this Restaurant at all or coming back again!!! What's WORSE the kitchen serve the 2 people next to us first than us when they came after us!...WOOOOW!!! Very Unprofessional!!! Service was very good at the Don Ramen Bar. Food came out quickly and was great. Food was also presented very well. Only detractor was the music was running at 95-97dB which really impedes conversation. Turn it down a bit to below 85-90! read more

Went to the Don tonight for the first time. I'm not from the area and I have to say this is the best ramen I've ever had. I had the tonkatsu ramen and it was delicious!! The chasu was so flavorful and tender. Our server Joshua was very attentive and the owner came around to explain all of the food, I loved that! You can tell the pride the owner and employees have for this restaurant. I had the blueberry chibi as my drink and I loved it! We finished off dessert with the strawberry taiyaki. Very fresh and a perfect way to end the meal. The music was great!! They even offer a military discount! We will be back thank you!! read more

We are in town just for the night and my daughter was craving ramen. She looked up this place and we are so happy she did! Where to start because every bit was a 10/10. Greeted by the friendliest person ever who walked me through the different ramen options. We chatted over some mutual things in common both having family in California and Texas. The music.... He was knocking the jams out of the park. Then there was the AMAZING ramen! My daughter could t pick which one she wanted so I got the other one and she def knew her stuff because it was so good! We had been traveling all day so we took it home and ate in the room and didn't leave a drop! So good 10/10 recommend! read more

Tried the bao's, filling is good... it could be with less sauces but overall taste. The bread was a little tougher than I'm used to. We had ramen with pork and steak, added one level of spicy bomb. The por and steak were good, the egg and shiitake mushrooms were cold but twitch the ramen broth it warmed up. The noodles were good and had plenty of them.. barely ate half. The birth had a good taste and the spicy bomb added a fine hint of heat.... The service was great, our waitress offered help and came back to check on us regularly. The ambiance, is a combination of anime related decor and some graphic art. The only complain was the music, some times way too loud... and the volume kept changing... read more

the food was really good! i had been craving ramen so i finally went today with my husband and it definitely satisfied my itch. the prices are reasonable. the owner was there and he was really nice and very helpful with any questions we had. there is some awesome artwork on the walls and the music wasn't too loud like other reviews said. they got us our food pretty fast and everyone was really nice. read more

The service from our server Vincent was slow, and the food quality was significantly different between my dish and the other person with me (we both got a spicy salmon roll). Their roll was what you'd expect for sushi whereas mine was mushy and conservative on ingredients. I ordered the Chuco (Birria) Ramen, it was very skimpy and conservative on the meat. On top of that when they checked up on us and asked how the food was, I told the server there was hair in my food, he then replied with I'm sorry to hear that and provided no remedy whatsoever. I ended up bringing up the fact there was hair in my food four times at the table and once while walking out. When walking out he asked if the food was not okay where I once again stated that there was hair in my food. Our server Vincent then said oh I'm sorry I didn't know that. Even though he acknowledged it and apologized for it twice at the table. Overall Vincent's service was extremely rude not to mention he would intentionally slam my drink down on the table and avoid coming to my table even when we make eye contact and flag him down. We had to make three separate attempts to get the check and cash out as well. It felt almost targeted saying he wasn't reckless with my friends dishes, drinks etc. not to mention he would come by whenever my friend would attempt to get the attention. Definitely was not worth the money spent and I am extremely disappointed with the hair being in my food, it wasn't just one strand of hair either, it was multiple small strands of hair, so many to the point it felt intentional. My friend and I agree I wasn't being rude, belligerent, obnoxious etc to welcome this behavior. read more

ordered the don tonkatsu ramen with gochujang and it was so amazing and flavorful, big portion and fantastic service
