My family and I have been here many times, mostly for eat in, but did take out this week. My daughter and I love the sushi, always fresh and a huge selection. My grandson loves the sesame chicken or the lo mien dish with beef. We have had the edamame as well and it is a good sized portion. They do have many other dishes besides sushi, so there is something for everyone, but most people go there for the sushi. They are always busy, but you have a better chance of getting in on a week night. I have never been for lunch. They give you a list of the sushi and a pencil and you check off the ones you want. The menu has pictures and descriptions of the sushi that helps a lot. Service is usually good, but its sometimes hard to get a drink refill or the waiter's attention if you need something. Our #2 place for sushi, and we eat it a lot...it is my daughter's favorite food. We will be back! read more

This place is fantastic because the endless amount of rolls they have and the BOGO sushi deal but I have to give it 4 stars because of other items I tried. I absolutely love beef short ribs but the ones from here tasted soggy and very moist. I think they should've been cooked more. The calamari was also overly breaded and fried, it just tasted really baked and it was hard to tell it was calamari unlike places where you can really taste the inside. The pad thai was good but not great! It could've been more flavorful and I feel like you can even tell from the picture that it was not super amazing. However the general tso's chicken plate was great and so was the rice so I would assume all the other chicken and rice dishes will be good as well. The sushi was delicious as always and I would definitely recommend both rolls I got which was a total of $16.95 as part of the buy one get one free deal. I'll probably only stick to sushi from here from here on out but the place is great nonetheless. read more

Great place! Always bogo but the prices are a bit higher so it only make sense to take advantage of the bogo deal. Always good sushi and great service. I love the fantasy eel and cherish u. Honestly, its been over a year since I've been here cuz felt the quality was headed downhill. Today I wanted to have some sushi at an odd time 3:30pm and this was the only place that I could find that was open. Even found out that they served lunch menu till 4pm! Would not recommend getting the ramen. The broth and noodles were good however you had the choice to do no chicken or anything really on it which is what I got except chose to get chicken and pork. So they are definitely additives to the ramen. The chicken was horrible. Ingredients are fresh, and generous portions and flavors are OK. Good selection of drinks. They could pay better attention to sushi rice, which seemed low quality and undercooked. Good variety of products and plates- maybe too broad and therefore less specialized? Location is great and it certainly seems to get a good share of traffic. This place was packed during lunchtime on a Sunday, luckily we didn't have to wait long. My mom and I both started off with a draft beer, they had a few good craft options available, and an order of crab rangoon. For food it was the panang curry (with onions instead of green beans) with a salad for me, the ginger chicken with a salad for my husband and two sushi rolls for my mom. Nice unassuming place with great sushi and good food. We had dinner here on a Saturday night and thee place was packed. There is a full bar on the left to the entrance and good number of seating otherwise as well. The overall vibe of the place is good and the service did not disappoint as well. We started off with few sushi rolls (California, daddy's girl, hot mama and tarantula waSp). They had a buy 1 get 1 free offer on a sushi even on Saturday nights which is great! The sake we ordered was really nice too. For the main course, we tried chicken jalapeño, Thai chicken ginger, Panang curry and chicken fried rice. The food was really good and to the point except the fried rice, which was pretty bland and disappointing. Each of the main dish came up with an option of soup (miso or hot and sour) or house salad. Didn't take any food pictures of this take out order. Visiting with my son and daughter-in-love with a new baby and a 21-month old. We ordered 6 sets of sushi rolls since they were buy one get one free. Nice assortment. My favorite was the Florida Roll. Not sure what they all ordered for entrees. The daughter-in-love really likes the Vegetable Tempura. I ordered the Green Curry with jasmine rice. I also had a green salad with ginger dressing. I had enough Green Curry and rice for lunch the next day. And it was even better the second time around -just enough heat to be delicious and clear out the sinuses. Definitely would get it again. But since they have such a varied menu I would love to try something new. Worth a visit or takeout. read more

As a person who lived in Japan for several years, I'm pretty fussy about my Japanese food, especially sushi. I've been going to this restaurant for well over five years, probably closer to 10 years, and I've never walked out of there feeling like it was five star! For a couple of years, the presentation of the sushi was nothing More than poor at best. I've had sushi rolls delivered to me that weren't cut all the way through, I've had sushi and sushi rolls delivered that fell apart upon human contact, and it's just been baffling to me until I realized that the vast majority of the staff behind the counter are Mexican, not Japanese! I will say the service is always good and the manager is a great guy that always is making the rounds checking on people, but the place is so up and down and unfortunately, the nearest sushi is nowhere near Apex, so I'm kind of stuck with the place read more

I'm literally in this restaurant right now. Greeter stood with his back to us for about 2 min before I had to say something. Then he just walked away lmfao. Service has been pretty terrible. Still waiting for my wife's food. Should be noted that my son's came out about 30 min ago. Mine came out about 5 min ago lol. Just a pathetic experience all around. Tough to beat when the sushi is reasonably priced and tastes great! The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of five is the consistency. I've been going here for over a year and the first time I ordered the Fantasy eel I actually cried cause how good it was. Ever since then, it doesn't taste nearly as good as the first time. This is one of my favorite, go-to Sushi spots in the area. This is one place that i've frequented many times because of their amazing quality of food and their prices are really reasonable as well! Another huge bonus is that they offer a BOGO on all their specialty rolls, and whatever roll is less, is the free one. (NOTE: this does not work if you order through grubhub). I've ordered so many dishes from there, however the dishes that stands out the most for me, based on cost, presentation and quality are the following (this is based on eating in (pre-covid), as well as dining out (during covid). Shrimp & Vegetable tempura. This dish gives you 3 nice sized shrimps, and 5 pieces of vegetable. Not overly fried, and no overpowering on the oil. Battered just right and fried perfectly. Collosseum - a tower containing sushi rice, spicy tuna, avocado, shrimp, crab, cavier, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, eel sauce, which is all stacked on top of each other. In the restaurant, its a great dish, however in takeout, they put it in a solo cup and pile the items on top of each there, so when you take it out, it is in reverse order :( The sushi boat for two is amazing!! it contains 18 random pieces of Nigiri (chef's choice) AND any 2 specialty rolls for $43...With this dish, I get one my favorite specialty roll - Sushi Iwa White tuna, tempura flakes, jalapeno and avocado topped with tuna, salmon, yellow tail, avocado and drizzled with a sweet citrus sauce. My 2nd roll I typically get will vary, as I've had most of the rolls. Another favorite of mine is the Rock N roll, which contains salmon, avocado, tempura flakes, spicy mayo, topped with salmon, jalapeno and drizzled with a wasabi sauce. Overall, the food is here is pretty good, and i have yet to find a sushi place that is better at this price point. Different than other places in terms of taste. Not the best sushi I had but it was Ok. It felt like premade which I can totally agree with based on the number of people flowing into the restaurant. When I see BOGO sushi, I know exactly what to expect. A large menu of highly Americanized sushi rolls, a menu stacked with offerings like shrimp, eel, tuna, salmon, tempura, spicy mayo, cream cheese, and avocado. And yes that is exactly what you get at Sushi Iwa. When I'm in the mood for a roll like this, it totally hits the spot. You get BOGO even for takeout, and you can order/pay ahead online so picking up food is a breeze. I cannot eat shrimp which unfortunately rules out a lot of rolls, but my go-tos include the Special Salmon, Fantasy Eel, Spider Roll, Volcano Roll, and Green Roll. I also love to get the chicken lettuce wraps here as a side. Not only delicious but also great portion size. Note: You don't seem to get the BOGO deal when ordering via Grubhub and the like. read more
