I love this true authentic all my house spot right here in New Jersey. It really feels like you're in Japan. The fish is so fresh. It's gone every day from Japan the fresh ingredients amazing service and a BYOB.

The sushi is really fresh and good! When I came here a year and a half ago, they were more on the traditional omakase side but now they have cute presentations for the starting pieces:) Ngl I love a good presentation soooo Some of the sushi chefs are such characters (super funny) & they can also accommodate your taste so let them know if you like/dislike sth!

Came here for mother's day. Its a pretty solid spot for some great sushi. This restaurant is strictly omakase so you may not totally know what you will be eating before hand. The restaurant is pretty small and its mostly counter service. They do have one or two table service that can be put together for a table of 6. The food here was mostly good. Sushi was great. Although the handroll was mediocre. BYOB was an assume attribute here. We brought 2 good bottles Sake that the server/manager put on ice. He poured the drinks and service was very attentive overall. One thing that they could add that most omakase at this price point has are warm hand towels to clean your hands. Traditionally you are supposed to eat sushi with your hands. So its nice to have a warm hand towel before starting the feast. While not the best Omakase I have ever had but it was still a very good meal and a place I would recommend

Sushi Kai is a 2 hour long omakase experience. Perfect for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion. The sushi was very good and all of the produce was very fresh. I would 100% recommend.

The Omakase experience made for a great birthday dinner! Plenty of fresh, delicious fish offerings that each had its own unique flavor profile. This place is BYOB, so come prepared, or they offer a variety of sodas/water. The service is excellent and each staff member was friendly and knowledgeable regarding the food they prepared for us. I especially enjoyed the mackerel and ended up ordering an additional piece at the end of the experience. Every piece of fish was prepared and presented in such a pretty way! Overall had a great time and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Impeccable and memorable dining experience, great service and very clean ambiance , food and chef made my time unforgettable experience

5 of the 10 piece table side omakase. the scallop was fantastic.

really solid omakase place in fort lee. mostly bar seating and about 3 tables in the front. you can still get omakase on the tables! decor is clean simple and modern. service was polite, knowledgeable, and prompt. we did the omakase at the table, and it came with a LOT of food! appetizer that had 3 parts, homemade miso soup, palette cleanser, 10 piece nigiri, donburi, and a dessert. the scallop really stood out. they brought out 5 pieces at a time, which was nice for pacing at the table. parking available in the back, but it's small so if you can't find there, muni lot is a v close walk.

I've only ever had omakase in Japan and this one blew it way, way out of the water. My boyfriend and I came here for my birthday earlier this year as a splurge. I can say for a fact that we'll be back. I'm a picky eater in that i don't like uni - I know, I know I'm weird stop yelling at me- so I let the chef know. Some lady at the table audibly gasped..but the chef was very accommodating and made me a little something else! Every course was better than the last.

Very minimalistic and calming decorations with a balanced, earthy and modern feel. The service was on point. Servers kept water glasses filled. It is byob which is even better. If you forget to bring your drinks, there's a nearby store you can call to get delivery. Our sushi chef Ryan was great! He took immense care in making each piece of sushi. The dinner is a combination of a few appetizers, then sushi then a dessert.

We sat at the sushi bar for the omakase experience, and it did not disappoint. The chef allowed the freshness of the ingredients to really speak for itself by mainly using just the soy sauce glaze for each course. The appetizers were decadent and delicious, with clear attention to detail placed on the presentation of the food. The restaurant is BYOB, with a few liquor stores nearby that you can pick up from before your reservation. The wait staff was attentive, and the fairly small size of the restaurant gave the dinner a very intimate experience. The omakase is not cheap, especially for Fort Lee, so don't expect to save much by eating here instead of the city.

From the start the flavors were unique, refreshing , so fresh! Simply delicious... portions were great not too filling ~ which I like. My boyfriend loved it as well , we really enjoyed the dinner. The crème brûlée style dessert of black sesame was a bit too dense under the crust but other than that , it was a great experience for us. Loved that the sushi chef came to explain each fish since we opted for private table seating not the sushi bar seating ... we will be back.

    Delicious uni

We went to Sushi Kai to celebrate our anniversary. Have been wanting to try their omakase for quite awhile and it did not disappoint. Our chef Ryan was incredible. The food and the atmosphere is awesome. The host was very attentive and kept our BYOb sake flowing. A really great place

Enjoyed my anniversary night here at @sushikai_nj . This place is a reservation only so make sure to book ahead! The chef was very kind. He did his best to work around a very loud group to give us great service and attention. The host kept an eye on on cups and refilled it when low. This omakase is also BYOB . The location is very small with close seating and has a minimalist style. Although the bathroom is right behind some seats it did not affect the experience. Overall the lighting is perfect for photos and viewing the lovely dishes . The food was definitely delicious 9.5/10 Fish was fresh and the pairing on the plate was well balanced. Sushi from top left going right is. New Zealand king salmon, Otoro , kanpachi amber jack, shim aji Seabass, botan ebi baby shrimp, saba mackerel Top dishes for me: kanpachi amber jack

    What is the parking situation?

Street parking but lot areas to park as well

How often does the menu change? Is it by season or based on delivery on what's available

As far as I've been told by chef, it's by season.

I ordered the Unagi Don Gozen ($42)- it came with a whole tray of different delicious items, with the star of the show being a generous amount of unagi (eel) over rice. The eel was cooked very well and the rice was flavorful with a bit of sweetness. There was also a small bowl of udon noodles, some sashimi, a crispy tempura shrimp in a yummy creamy sauce, flavorful edamame, mashed potato with corn, and some pickled veggies - quite the diverse array, all of which was tasty. The restaurant itself has a rather simple yet elegant Japanese wooden design. The prices suggest it's a more high end place, but the vibe is actually rather casual. The staff are very attentive and the service speed is pretty quick. Overall, I would definitely give Moru 4.5 stars if I could. I think it's great for most types of occasions, and the only reasons it's not getting 5 stars is because I do think the prices are a tad higher than I would've hoped and I think they could've done a bit more in terms of designing the place to match the price point. That being said, I still highly recommend Moru, especially for a nice lunch.

If you are thinking, no need to think. Go! Trust me! You won't regret it! First of all, the sushi chefs are Japanese, so you know that the sushi is going to be legit. And it was busy there from customers and take-out, so you know that everything will be fresh, too. There were so many options to choose from the menu, so I had to ask for a recommendation. My friend and I were recommended to try the omakase option and, boy, that was a perfect choice! There were 3 types of omakase and we chose the first one. -Sushi omakase - $70 -Sashimi omakase - $80 -Sushi & sashimi omakase - $90 This was my first omakase experience where I walked out super full and impressed. -We were advised to eat each piece without soy sauce because each piece was curated with their own unique flavors. -After our first bite, we were advised that we could ask the sushi chef to adjust the rice and wasabi ratio in each sushi piece. We decided to keep it as is. -The wasabi here is really good, but spicy, so if you can't handle the spiciness, definitely ask for less. I was crying because of the wasabi but I didn't want it to be adjust because it was so good. -On the menu, it states that you have 2 hours, which allowed us to enjoy the omakase at a nice pace. -The udon soup you get in the end is made with hand-cut, chewy noodles and it was a perfect ending. -And this omakase also includes a dessert at the end, which was a perfect sweet ending. I hope you made the right decision to come here for your sushi craving/experience. Once you come here, I bet this will be your regular sushi spot. Tips: -Yamagata in a small shopping plaza with parking, but it fills up fast. There is metered parking on the street if needed. -This place is cozy and intimate, so if you are planning to come at a busy time, I would suggest calling to make a reservation. -For the omakase experience, if you can, sit at the sushi counter so that you could get the full experience by getting each sushi piece from the sushi chef.

I would come back to try dinner. I wanted to try Otter for awhile and popped in for lunch. At $34.95 AYCE, the ambiance is nice but I expected more. Staff was very attentive and friendly. The belt itself I felt was marked but the plates were being just loaded where there was space - so the labels were correct only part of the time. The rolls were decent but it got to a point where each just tasted very slightly different so it started getting repetitive. Apps were fine but nothing noteworthy enough to order again. The options on the belt were much more plentiful than the ones on the menu to order. Lunch you're limited to only nigiri (sashimi is dinner only) and the options are pretty basic at just octopus, salmon, tuna, saba, etc. The belt design could be better, very slow pace and the divider on each side makes it that it's easy for the tables on the other side to grab things. We actually had the best seat where the items come out first but our neighbors on the other side started reaching out to grab things. This was at lunch which as I mentioned, had limited options - I wonder how much more primal diners will be in the evening with better choices. At $34.95 pp - would not come back for lunch. Just way too few options and I can't order what's on the belt. Kura for example, even if you have a crappy seat where most of the belt is picked through.. I can order EVERYTHING a la carte. I'd be willing to check out dinner to see what that extra $10 gets me. For lunch though - either the price needs to decrease or the options need to increase. I wouldn't recommend lunch service in its current form. Service though, A+++.
