~ BYOB ~ Parking lot Sushi Kazuki offers delicious dining and takeout to River Vale community. It has been recognized for its outstanding Sushi cuisine, excellent service and friendly staff. Their Sushi restaurant is known for its modern interpretation of classic dishes and its insistence on only using high quality fresh ingredients. I've been coming to this place for years with my girlfriend who lives in the area. We normally order all you can eat and are always satisfied. This time around we ordered the Spicy Kani Salad (5.95) and both fried and steamed Shumai. (5.75) I enjoy the Spicy Kani here because it is chopped julienne style and also served with cucumber. A lot of places I have been are stringy and clumped. Both fried and steamed Shumai were good. They come out extra hot, so make sure to blow off some hear. For sushi we ordered four special rolls. We went with the Mike Roll, 007 Roll, Hawaii Roll and the Tiger Roll. Mike Roll came with shrimp tempura, avocado, salmon skin, spicy sauce inside and spicy salmon on the top. (10.95) 007 Roll came with spicy tuna, kani and avocado inside and salmon, crunch, tobiko, scallion with special sauce on the top. (11.95) Hawaii Roll came with snow crab, cucumber inside and avocado, spicy eel sauce on top. (11.95) Tiger Roll came with spicy yellowtail, crunch cucumber and tuna on top (11.95) My favorites were the Mike Roll and Hawaii Roll. The Mike roll had all the ingredients to make my mouth burst full of flavor. I think the tempura really made this roll stand out for me. As for the Hawaii roll, the avocado on top with the spicy eel sauce made a great combination. This roll also had really good flavor and the right amount of spicy. Fish was fresh and they had a variety of different rolls to choose from. Many other all you can eat sushi places have the same ingredients just different combinations. Staff was kind and attentive.

As of this writing, the price of the all you can eat option is $23.95 and includes miso soup and a green salad (if you want it). The sushi here is prepared fresh when you order it... it's not sitting out on a buffet. Kazuki also has a full non-AYCE menu. As far as I could tell, all the rolls, special rolls, and most sushi pieces on the traditional menu were also available on the AYCE menu. There is no sashimi on the AYCE menu and if you don't eat everything that you've ordered, you could be charged extra. The sushi is quite decent. It's probably the best of the other all you can eat sushi joints around here. I'll put it this way... If you were paying by the piece, you wouldn't feel ripped off. The service on the night I was here (Thursday) was reasonably attentive and sushi was prepared relatively quickly. The restaurant is BYOB which is something I'll have to remember for next time. Overall, I give Kazuki high marks for providing a quality product at a nice price.

Went for lunch with my family (7 people total). No one else was in the restaurant. They had someone's iPod playing that played songs with explicit lyrics and since no one else was there, the music was pretty loud. Hearing bad words over a stereo when across from your grandmother = a little awkward. The owner's child (like 3 years old) was running around and coughing. Not the best ambiance. Server spoke quickly with a heavy accent and wasn't overly friendly. Food came out in decent time, but it was nothing to write home about. I got the lunch special - 3 rolls for $10.95. I've had worse sushi, but I've also had a lot better. Will not be returning.

    this is an awesome handroll!

so here is the paradox . .. . an all-you-can eat sushi restaurant that actually has good, tasty, & creative rolls. Is it the highest quality 6-star that you can get at the finest sushi restaurants in the world? No, but neither are many of the fancy restaurants that charge a ton of money more than the $23.95 that Kazuki charges. And here you have a wide selection of creative & tasty rolls, prepared fresh, without overwhelming you with rice. In addition you also have included the option to have soup, salad, appetizers, etc. If you choose to, you can order additional rolls at ala carte pricing, but why would you need to when you can eat yourself silly for under $25 a person? My favorites are the Green River (four kinds of fish), the White Tiger, the Mike hand roll (not on the menu), the Zoya roll, but you can't go wrong with any of these. I've been coming here for about 15 years and I wouldn't have been back a 2nd time if the food wasn't worthy . . . . well worth the trip.

The restaurant was casual and comfortable, and the staff seemed very much on top of what appeared to be a very robust takeout order business. While we made our selections live at the cash register, we saw a continuing rotation of patrons coming to grab their meals. The staff had the process down, though, as they maintained their patience, quickly prepared the food, and got everything organized and packed without flaw. One of the items we tried was the Clear Soup, which could have used more mushrooms, but had a flavorful broth infused with fried onions. We also had the Steamed Shrimp Gyoza and Steamed Shrimp Shumai, which had surprisingly different flavors. Both were fresh and delicate, with the Shumai having a bit more of a seafood-forward kick. While we enjoyed the few bites that we sampled from Matsu, we will need to go back to try some sushi from their vast menu that included loads of raw rolls, cooked varieties, and interesting custom creations. If that was not enough of a reason on its own, clearly the continuous flow of takeout diners and slew of local awards on the walls were signs that we needed to return. Plus, that way I would be able to write a more thorough review.

We ordered the Pork Tonkatsu - All the Way, Soy Garlic Chicken Wings, and Lumpia. We tried the lumpia first. Let me preface, this is a great introduction to Filipino food for white people of Rutherford and beyond. As a Filipino, this was so sub-par. It tasted like ground pork, unseasoned, with no aromatics or vegetables, accompanied with sweet chilli sauce to save it. The ramen was just OK. I don't want to disparage it, but it holds no candle to anything at Mitsua. The chicken wings were the most disappointing part of the meal. When you offer Soy Garlic, or Gochujang flavored wings, you expect double fried, breaded, amazing Korean-style crunchy wings. These were naked wings and a pathetic drizzle of what they considered "Soy Garlic" sauce. It was really bad. The seasoning on the chicken really turned my stomach. What was that flavor they were going for? The sauce was not Soy Garlic and the Chicken flavor base was atrocious. Not to mention, my wings still had feathers on them. They really need to stop playing around and whip that kitchen into shape and avoid delivering THIS type of quality! I really wanted to LOVE this place. Instead, I felt like I wasted my money and left way disappointed.

One proceeded to apologize and tell me "how overwhelmed everyone is because it is Valentines Day." I didn't have the heart to tell him it was actually Friday the 13th and the restaurant was not even close to packed. If that stresses him out he is in the wrong line of work. Furthermore, you don't trouble customers with this sort of thing. BUT, I digress... 2 stars for the photo of Elvis Presley in the movie Flaming Star! I saw that movie in the theaters, 1961! Actually, 1 star for Elvis and another for the water service (more about that later.) We ordered the Octopus and Fried Pickles as app's. The Octopus was loaded with garlic, but otherwise under seasoned and flavorless and was a comically small portion - a "sliver." Loaded with fingerling potatoes though! The fried pickles were about as "good" as something you would get from a bad food truck. Both (over) priced like it was prepared by a Michelin chef (which of course, it was not.) Next up - the Porterhouse for two. Ordered Medium rare and arrived Medium Well, to actually Well done (i.e.. solid GREY) on the Filet side. Because our server considered his job done after our entree's arrived, it was a chore to find him and flag him down to send it back. It took a disproportionate amount of time to bring us a new one, like 40 minutes. We got multiple apologies but no visit from management (which is customary in a place that fancies themselves "high end") and no offers to comp anything to make things right. Finally we get our Medium rare steak which honestly, was chewy and tough. Our server disappeared like a ghost after we got our Porterhouse "re-do" which is too bad because we needed a few things...like salt for the flavorless steak fries. Maybe he was busy? After all, it WAS Valentines Day! One plus - there is an almost OCD-like fascination with filling your water glass! Take one sip and an arm will magically appear next to you to top it off! Give that man a raise! First time/last time - awful.

Surf N Turf: I will order this moving forward as my go-to roll. The beef was cooked to perfection and paired perfectly with the salmon. This roll itself filled me up, I thought I was going to order something else but I was done after that. Salmon and Shrimp Teriyaki: My partner gets this each time and I am always so excited to throw my fork into his plate. The teriyaki sauce here is so tasty, I want to put it on everything! The salmon and shrimp are also cooked super well, no chewiness here. Great amount of crisp on the salmon, the way it slides onto the fork is beautiful to watch. Vegetable Gyoza: The star of the show!! Best appetizer they have truly. I was so sad when there was no more. But thankful to have been able to experience such a great starter. Sweet Potato Roll: (Not pictured) The roll was ok, I liked it but felt like it was missing something. Maybe I would have liked it if it was Korean sweet potatoes.
