I love sushi but this sushi was poor quality and overpriced. I ordered a rainbow roll, and I had to send it back. It was nothing but imitation crab with a small sliver of tasteless fish on top. Everything about it tasted off, and smelled off. I was interrogated by both the waitress and also the manager of why I didn't like it. My friend and I are two African American females and when we walked the hosted seated us right away. We took time to look at the menu while waiting for a server to come over to the table. No one came, not even to acknowledge us. After about 15 mins, two Caucasian females walked in and sat at the table right next to us. Used to go here before I moved to the area. It has gotten a lot better--nice ambiance, trendy but doesn't seem too pretentious. Live music some nights. Special rolls are consistently good but since they added poke bowls to the menu I now get those every time. Fish is fresh and the portion size always requires me to take home. This review is based solely on the Wednesday night life. All the hype is true. The place is a mad house and I don't understand why, except for maybe two reasons: 1) Half off martinis, which come out to $5.50 and present a much cheaper option than my $7 draft of Stella. 2) It seems to be a local celebrity hangout. Plaxico Burress was here the night I went, unarmed hopefully. The outdoor area can't possibly be the draw. It's a fenced in portion of the parking lot that can't possibly exceed 800 sq. feet. My apartment is bigger than that. Way too crowded. Either way, I'm guessing based on the crowd, this is where those who frequent the Jersey Shore on weekends get their weekday fix. I heard good things about this place but left unimpressed. We ordered the Sushi for 2. First off, mock crab meat should is not served at any quality Japanese restaurant. Secondly, I don't think the Maguro was actually tuna. I think they subbed some kind of cheaper fish. Bonita, perhaps. Same goes for the Hamachi. Real Yellowtail is hard to find these days. But at least sub something similar. Whatever they served in its place was flavorless and watery. Sushi lounge attempts to be creative with some other "fusion" dishes on the menu. Have dined a few times at sushi lounge before the quarantine but this was the first time I've ordered take out from them. Can I just say that Sushi lounge does it right! Our meal was delicious, the quality of ingredients was superb and the service was fantastic. My husband and I ordered the salmon hibachi, the sea bass roll, the Thai basil chicken with chili fried rice and 4 martinis to go (it was half of Martini Wednesday!). Every order of food was delicious, I can't stop raving about my salmon, it was cooked perfectly and when we got home to unbox it, it was hot and still crisp from the grill. My husband loved his Thai basil chicken and commented how deliciously spicy his rice was. As for our martinis, you can't beat half off martinis and just because they're half priced doesn't mean they're diluted, these were strong and worth the price (regular priced or half priced). We managed to only drink 2 as they were pretty strong but oh so good! My only reason for 4 stars is the price, for 2 people expect to spend around 50 a person but it's worth it! Lastly, I ordered chicken fried rice which was tasty it wasn't the amazing fried rice that you would get in a LA Japanese restaurant but it was good for Jersey way better than I expected. The upscale bar, lounge, and dining room provided a trendy retreat off the main highway loaded with strip malls and fast food. Though we were at the restaurant for lunch, it was a Sunday afternoon, also known as the perfect time for a sweet cocktail. I enjoyed a Sake Sangria, which was a tart blend of Merlot, sake, triple sec, peach pucker, and orange juice. We began our meal with some plump Edamame topped with crushed sea salt. We then shared several sushi rolls, including a spicy tuna and some unique house specialties. Each maki was a lot of glitz without any substance. The fish could have been fresher, and the flavors could have been bolder, especially at such steep prices of around $14 a roll. A trip to any of the Sushi Lounge locations would be an enjoyable experience solely due to their hip environments, live DJs, and unique menu offerings.
