After finally deciding that we wanted Chinese food for dinner, a group of us searched online for local restaurants with positive reviews. We came across Koi and decided to give it a try. I started my meal with a Shrimp Egg Roll, which was thankfully not over-fried. I thought the roll could have used more shrimp and some added flavor, though, as it was mainly white cabbage. While others ordered saucy, traditional meals and enjoyed them, I opted for the Steamed Bean Curd with Mixed Vegetables and garlic sauce on the side. Unsurprisingly, no one wanted to share dishes with me, but I was pleased with my selection. The tofu was soft and silky, and there was a decent variety of vegetables included - snow peas, bamboo shoots, broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts, and celery. My side of brown rice was also perfectly cooked and not too mushy. Overall, Koi wound up being a wise takeout choice that would be added into the rotation of the members of the group living in that neighborhood. read more

I ordered four dishes and not one was descent. There was very little beef and vegetables in the beef fried rice. This version of fried rice didn't come close to its name. The Pu Pu platter- all of the food was overcooked and dry, it was difficult to chew or enjoy. Chicken Chow Fun- no flavor. Sushi- I had better. Overall, the dishes lacked flavor and not authentic. PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES BEWARE!!!! We called to double check if certain items had peanuts, eggs, tree nuts, sesame and they said several times it did not. In the middle of dinner my son starts complains his mouth, throat, and stomach hurt. We called again to see what allergen we were dealing with because some are more severe to him than others. Again, the lady said no we do not use any of those items in the dish. I asked if they used peanut oil, sesame oil, and if they use egg to marinate the meat in the dish. She said "No, I don't think we use those things". Don't think!!!! I told her to go to the back and ask the chef....she comes back a minute later and was told the chef used a little peanut butter in the sauce!!! I'm Chinese and this dish does not call for peanut butter and have orders this dish at several different Chinese restaurants. Luckily I was able to make my son throw it up and an EpiPen was not required, as he has a severe peanut allergy. read more

Koi is my neighborhood Chinese-American restaurant. I like it a lot. It's not the super-best Chinese food in the New York Metro area, but it is very good. I feel qualified to judge American-style Chinese cuisine growing up in New York, I indulged with my friends in frequent trips to eat in the Canal Street / Mott Street area. I lived in San Francisco too for many years where Chinese food is a cult. Koi's food is of course adapted to the local tastes, not overly spiced and seasoned unless you ask for it. My favorites have been Hot & Sour soup, and Curry Chicken, but I have never had anything bad here. They also serve Japanese dishes here, but I have not had enough of a sample to comment. read more

I was in the mood for noodles today so ordered some vegetable mei fun. I ordered my meal online for a 11:45 pick up. When I arrived I parked in the plaza parking lot. I walked in and was greeted. I told the lady my name and she said I ordered the vegetable lo mein which was wrong. She had to bring it back and get the right item. It took only a couple minutes, which was super fast to make. I thanked her and left. When I got in I ate and it was very tasty and filling. I enjoyed my meal and had a pretty good experience. read more

Delicious food! I couldn't believe how cheap the prices are when compared to places I've been before. I was skeptical on the food quality, but it was fantastic. I added extra broccoli to my order and my was still under $7. Which is cheap, the portion was huge. My order was more then enough for two people. The food was piping hot and flavorful. This restaurant was recommended to me by a family member. I had eaten here with them once before and didn't find it to be anything special, but I figured I would try something different when they suggested it again. Personally, I wouldn't recommend the Japanese dishes here. I ordered a hibachi box which ended up being more like a typical Chinese takeout dish and it was covered in a lot of sauce. It didn't seem like it was grilled let alone cooked on a hibachi. The fried rice it came with was just typical takeout fried rice. They also forgot the sushi rolls we ordered, so I'm unable to review that. The rest of my family enjoyed their Chinese dishes; however, I've personally had better elsewhere. read more

Always forget an item on the order and they don't tell you items that come in large or small, so my order of beef and broccoli cost $16 instead of 8 I did not want the large . My new go-to for Chinese food in the area. Everything tastes great, is reasonably priced and portioned just right. Some of my favorites are the wonton soup, pork fried rice, General Tso's chicken, boneless ribs and the chicken wings. Definitely worth a try! read more

My concert ended up getting rained out so I ordered from Koi via Grubhub. I ordered a shrimp and broccoli combo meal. What was delivered was shrimp with a FEW frozen vegetables with fake crab, which I despise in a white sauce. They tried to substitute with an inferior and cheaper product because I ordered through Grubhub. This was no mistake. Never order from here via Grubhub - though delivery wasn't the problem. Not sure how the guy got in my condo building without buzzing me - but that's a whole separate issue. Will never go to Koi again because of their product substitution. We order from Koi almost once a week. Sometimes we get Chinese food and sometimes the sushi. The sushi is really fresh and the Chinese food is always tasty. I love that the steamed dumplings have just a thin dough layer with a hearty meat filling, rather than the other way around like some places. The best part is that my kids love to eat whatever we get there! Plus, they are always accommodating when we have little variations we'd like to make. Great local spot for us! read more

I order here a ton. And the food is delicious. They have such a variety in their menu which is great. However we Order takeout basically every time we eat here and they always tell you 15 min and it will be ready. It is never ready when they say it will be and even after waiting 30 min to pick up the food you will wait another 30 min when you are there to pick up your food. This always happens and it drives me insane because there takeout business is bigger than those who eat in. They also hardly ever apologize for it being late. They are however super friendly so I don't understand why they don't apologize really. I think a lot of the issue is they are beyond short staffed. read more

We love this place Japanese, sushi and Chinese food it's a great place to meet up because there's something for everyone including lunch specials. This is a nice place to sit and eat with about 8 booths and several tables with privacy screens and they do take out but we like to eat here. The waitresses are alert and nice, They have lovely tea hot or cold, food is fresh and they're flexible combining sauces and vegetables to your liking. I got really excited to hear the owners of Koi are the former owners of China kitchen which has been our go to for like 20 years but CK has some attitude problems these days, so I thought Koi was the answer. I ordered my go-to which is steamed dumplings and steamed chicken broccoli and a pork egg roll off their online ordering system (beyondmenu) and tipped 20% in advance. Food came quick, but the delivery guy acted like I didn't tip him! He shows me a receipt for $19 so I showed him my transaction for $23 and he quickly walked off. Bad look, but whatever man, maybe he didn't know. Dumplings tasted great(which is why they get more than 1 star, chicken broccoli was avg and the egg roll was a 0/10. The crappy part is that it's currently an hour later, and I've been feeling so SICK for 30-40 minutes now that I would rather die. Needless to say, won't be back read more

I don't know why so many people gave this place 5 stars. It took forever to get my food even though there were only 2 other families seated. Some of the food was very greasy and cold when it arrived, but the chicken teriyaki I ordered was amazing. It came with a bunch of stuff like vegetables, rice, soup and salad, and it even came with sushi. The main reason I'm only giving the restaurant 3 stars is because of the service. The waitresses always seemed confused when I would ask for something and were a bit slow with bringing out the orders. EDIT: After dinner I spoke with two people sitting near us and they asked how our service was because they had a few problems. They told us that they've been to this restaurant several times before and they absolutely loved it, but on Saturdays they do a lot of take-outs and their wait staff seems to have trouble dealing with customers and over the phone orders. This was my go to delivery place. Tonight the driver with the gray shirt and the black hat that always delivers the food had to wait for four minutes while I finished up in the bathroom. I reviewed the cameras to watch what this guy did. He buzzed the buzzer repeatedly and obnoxiously. He went into my bushes peeking into my windows and banged on my windows with great force not once, but twice, banging harder the second time. He stormed up and down my lawn. When I ran out to the door he was in the street screaming in another language. I apologized for making him wait four minutes. He scowled at me and rudely dropped the food into my hands rather than handing it to me. 5 dollar tip. 2 dollar delivery fee. 80 worth of food. Sorry you had to wait 4 minutes pal. The food is good here, but the take out timing is the worst. Every time you order, and I mean EVERY TIME, they tell you your order will be ready in 15 minutes. Don't believe them. So normally we wait before we go pick it up. We literally give them 1/2 an hour. Tonight we go to pick up the order and it's not ready. And there are at least a dozen other people waiting for their orders too. The wait has now over 40 minutes, much longer then their 15 minute estimate.
