We walked in a little after 8:10 pm and because we knew that they closed at 8:30, we decided to order a quick beer and salmon sashimi. Long story short, another party had walked in at 8:30, ordered food, got the food and ate it, before we even received our salmon sashimi. When we asked the waiter and another man walking around to help tables, both were extremely rude. We realized we had been waiting for 50 minutes with no food. My family and I had an amazing time at this restaurant, and the staff treated us with kindness and professionalism throughout. What I witnessed from this group, however, was incredibly disappointing. The tone, entitlement, and disrespect shown toward the staff were completely uncalled for. It came across as people abusing privilege and looking down on those who were simply doing their jobs. It was upsetting enough that my 10-year-old daughter noticed it immediately. She became emotional just watching how rudely the staff were treated, and on her own, she felt moved to write a note to the hostess afterward who was in tears. That alone speaks volumes. I hope others who read the original review can recognize the entitlement behind it and take it with a grain of salt. The staff here deserve far more respect than what they were given in that moment. If you want unauthentic and bad Japanese food, this is the place to get it. The rice is hard and clearly some cheap form of short grain rice. Sushi did not look fresh. The miso soup is so salty. The tempura was so oily but probably the only thing that was edible. The grilled fish was burnt and dry. The chicken nabe stew was blend and chicken was dry. The ambience was what you expect. Came back again since we enjoyed our first visit! Unfortunately this time around the service lacked but the food was good. The rice was cooked perfectly and the fish portion was generous. We sat down and placed our order at 6:50 pm. We waited a bit and realized our appetizer still hasn't come in so we checked in with our server who said it was coming out shorty. At 7:35 we were given the appetizer and 5 minutes later all the sushi rolls and dishes we ordered. It took 45 minutes for the food to come out, which is fair given they were busy with to go ordered it seemed. But once that subsided I noticed tables who were seated before us started to get their food first. The lack of service in stating that it was going to take longer for the food to come out as well would have been appreciated. We don't mind waiting but I believe it's important to communicate with the customer that food may take longer so that we are not left looking around wondering what is going on. Overall, might have been a one off night and disappointed that I left feeling this way because the food was so good this time! read more

First off I don't do reviews. Second the server was on their game tonight and delivered great service. However the rolls were sloppy, falling apart and flat out messy. We do sushi once/twice a week all over and this ad our first time revisiting an ol Napa Staple. I am in awe at how poorly executed these rolls were. Anything tempura was under cooked and mushy. The rolls Followed suit by falling apart before being touched. It was like a poke bowl that someone attempted to roll up. The texture was so unappetizing it was like eating left over sushi from the day before. I'm sorry but service was 5 stars the sushi however was straight trash. They need help in the kitchen. Arrived without reservations for two and they were able to accommodate us with a table. Toro predictably and deliciously melted in the.mouth. Tuna ceviche was tasty and the tortilla chips were warm, light and crispy and tasted like they were cooked in fresh oil. Sushi was ok but the fried Oreo cookies are melt-in-your mouth amazing. Regretting that I only ordered a half-serving. This place is great. It's a small family owned Sushi Restaurant with limited seating which I like. The good was fresh and delicious. My Server was great: attentive and personable It did take awhile to get my food which was fine and allowed me to enjoy the Tuna Ceviche which was incredible. The Spicy Tuna Roll was good. I also had the Toro Nigiri. Toro is Blue Fine Tuna and it's delicious: creamy fatty flavorful. Melts in your mouth. Finally there was dessert: deep fried tempura Oreos over vanilla ice cream. Oh sweet baby Jesus. I ordered the half serving which is 3 Oreos instead of 5.....that was a stupid decision. If you're in Calistoga swing by, eat some heart healthy delicious life saving Omega rich sushi and then dive face first into some deep fried Oreos. read more

Came for dinner while staying in Calistoga! I've been to Sushi Mambo many times when it was located in downtown Napa but this is my first time coming back since they've moved up valley (I know it's been too long). The sushi was delicious, I miss having this gem in Napa! -1 star for service, the temperature dropped quickly while we were sitting outside. The server went through the motions to turn the heater on for us (opened up the propane, lit the pilot then didn't turn the fire on?) and left us to it with a heater that was still unlit. My guess is it was out of propane but he didn't care. Unfortunate to have to sit in the cold towards the end of the meal, we didn't get dessert for this reason. read more

The last time I had their food was when they were in Napa and that's been years. We did not have a reservation, but were seated after 45 minutes, which we did not mind. We sat at their bar and watched all the action while catching up on life. Our server was so sweet and kept making sure we had everything we needed whenever she'd pass by. To start, we ordered the garlic edamame, potstickers, fungus among us & diablo rolls and for dessert we had to get the Fried Oreos. Cravings were definitely satisfied! First, let's talk parking--or rather, the lack of it. This place has no parking lot, so you'll spend a good chunk of your pre-meal energy circling the block like a hungry vulture. Once you're inside, don't expect much breathing room. The place is cozy--if by cozy you mean "packed tighter than a can of sardines." And the kicker? It wasn't even full, yet I still felt like I should've been issued an oxygen tank. Now onto the food. It's... fine. Not bad, but definitely not good enough to justify the price tag. It's the kind of food that makes you check your receipt twice to confirm you didn't accidentally buy the kitchen equipment along with your meal. But let's talk about the real MVP: the lone server. This guy deserves a medal--or at least hazard pay. He was the glue holding this operation together while the lady who runs the place apparently mistook us for decorative furniture. I wouldn't be surprised if she walked right past me and dusted the table instead. And finally, the pièce de résistance: the mandatory 20% service charge for a party of four. Is that normal here? No idea. But it felt like paying a fine for showing up. If they're trying to cover rent, I get it, but at least put a sign up so I don't have to process my bill like it's a plot twist in a mystery novel. Would I come back? Probably not, but if you're feeling adventurous and have some extra cash burning a hole in your wallet, give it a shot. BUCKLE UP Y'ALL! What started out as an okay experience, quickly shifted into a nightmare for the ages. The food was okay, had better fish from the farmers market this morning shout out to them, maybe yall should source from there, but this is not about that. We started with a table for 6 and added 2 at the last minute, I get it that's a big ask and we would understand if we needed to wait or do two separate tables, but we were accommodated, awesome, browny points for this place from the start. Sat immediately placed drink orders they came, had to ask for an extra beer glass twice and got a sake shot glass but hey thats fine we had water glasses and made do! No big deal. We place our apps order, the food comes out normal speed. The spicy edamame was amazing and the calamari was cut with vegetables and then fried together which we had never seen, but wow what a way to have it! Now the issues. We sat at 6, placed dinner orders by 6:45 and this is a place with sushi and a variety of cooked dishes (probably the issue). The cooked dishes finally started coming out around 7:30 at 5-8 minute intervals. Finally most dishes were out by 7:45 but they still had 4 other sushi rolls for people who are now sitting for an hour watching people eat. This itself would not be an issue we have waited before we are okay with that. My mom 77 from Ireland, asked to have her two hand rolls taken off the bill since its been an hour since she ordered them and decided to just eat from my dad's dinner, and that's when the owners wife decided to yell at her, and tell her that she was acting extremely rude and that my mother, by asking for the rolls to be taken off and telling the owners wife the reason, was ruining my birthday. My mom came back to the table with tears in her eyes, and to battle I went. Sadly when I went to still live a 20% tip for the servers she said I should just "fucking take that back too" but I understand that being a server is hard and it wasn't their fault. Shout out to the main server (maybe their son) for helping intervene. Look out for the other reviews as well. Food mediocre, customer service garbage, yelling at a 77 year old woman that she is "ruining her son's birthday" because of your terrible timing, what type restaurant would do that to a paying customer? The negotiated bill was due to them telling us to leave, and then threatening to call the cops because we weren't paying full price for food they weren't allowing us stay and eat. read more
