Wait time: Approximately 1 hour on weekends. Suspicion: Based upon our experience and what I have researched, the tuna roll that I have purchased below may or may not actually be tuna. There is a possibility that the tuna may be "Escolar". Experience: My wife and I went for the first time for a light meal to try their Sushi rolls. We sat at the bar in anticipation for fantastic Sushi. After all, it was an hour wait time. therefore, the food must be out of this world. Right? So we sat at the bar ordered a couple drinks. An old fashion for me and a Asian beer for my wife. Drinks were fine, no skimping on the bourbon in my drink and the beer was cold. So far so good. We then placed our order. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and edamame and my wife ordered the miso soup with a baby tiger roll that also contained tuna. So far so good. Friendly prompt ordering service. Now begins the Disaster.... Time to eat. 1st of all the soup was not delivered before or even during the meal. Server forgot but eventually retrieved the soup toward the end of the meal. Soup was fine I guess. Back to the sushi. We both looked at our sushi rolls then back at each other then back at the sushi and both of us said "what is this meat inside this sushi roll" and "why is there so much of it"? The presentation was clearly Not fantastic. It was just odd looking...your eyes eat before your mouth and my eyes were not liking the experience. Doesn't look like fresh tuna. It looks more like tuna tar tar or something that was blended into a tuna like paste. Then there was the edamame. I am used to ordering piping hot steamed fresh dark green Edamame sprinkled with salt. Not here, that is for darn sure. What I received was a bowl of light colored overcooked warm edamame. The edamame was clearly over cooked or may have been left over from an earlier lunch service or even the day before all together. Very disappointing. How do you mess up on edamame? Heck, the store purchased edamame is twice as good. Back to the Sushi... We looked at the tuna tar tar rolls again. Dare we try this odd looking fish? Flip a coin...looks like tails we lose..lol.... Oh well, we both shrugged our shoulders and said "heck, let's give it a chance". We discovered that The taste was average nothing outstanding just a cheap version of tuna but with expensive tuna prices. There was so much "tuna" meat in the roll which is very odd because real quality tuna is expensive. Why would they fill it with so much tuna for all you can eat... doesn't make sense. Not sure if it was truly tuna or something blended with another fish. (see suspicion above). Was just truly strange. We were perplexed. I have attached a couple photos to give folks an idea what it looks like. I definitely would not recommend eating here. Not worth the wait and the sushi roll was certainly not of the highest standards of quality. Why waste your time time when you can get excellent high quality sushi at so many other local restaurants. Kohns, Darma blue, Ichiban etc. Update: My suspicion stated above may be accurate based upon my running to the bathroom with stomach cramps an hour later. Do your research about restaurant fake tuna replacement fish and the symptoms they cause. Be aware: yelp may be using an Algorithm that is somehow placing the most recent 5 star review above lower star reviews. Look at the dates of reviews and the stars given. Oh goodness. This place used to be pretty good but something must have happened because the food is BLAND. Absolutely no flavor. Tastes like something at Panda Express. Just awful. And the service was just terrible too. barely checked in on us, never asked how the food was (probably because they knew it was awful) and clearly was trying to rush us the whole time. We ordered appetizers which came out almost at the same time as the entrees. The sushi was just awful, I've had better at Sam's club than here. No sauce no crunch on the CRUNCH ROLL. The food is good. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Everything is clean and aesthetically appealing. Definitely recommend if you want to gorge yourself. Yes, the portions are much smaller (esp. the nigiri and sashimi) than you would expect if it wasn't AYCE, but I was pleased with the size of the regular sushi rolls. Our server was really attentive and prompt, which we appreciated when ordering multiple rounds of food. We tried basically each category on the menu (appetizers, hand rolls, nigiri, rice, tempura, sushi rolls, dessert, etc). My favorite sushi was probably the mango themed one (don't remember the name). Of course sushi is obviously the star, but it is how it is made and presented that makes an 18 year old birthday in need of wanting it so badly when the roads were blocked to come celebrate at his grandmother's due to wrecks on the road. It's been years so we decided to try again. What a waste of money. Nothing and I mean nothing was even edible. I'm not particularly picky but I'll go over the food. I don't know how people eat here it was AWFUL. Worst food experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Coke: fine Tempura: shrimp was rock hard, veggies soaked with oil Steak teriyaki: watery? This used to be our family's go to place, until today. We asked one of the people who run food for a knife because my 90 year-old grandma has trouble swallowing her food and we needed to cut it up. The runner said something in passing to another coworker as he was walking away along the lines of "I think we're out of knives". He never went and looked for us, never came back to tell us he checked and that there aren't any, didn't pass it on to our server that we needed one, etc. My grandma tried eating her food without cutting it up due to not wanting to bother them again and she started choking. We were seconds away from having to do the Heimlich maneuver on her. With no waiters to be found during this, I went and stood outside of the kitchen door and requested to speak with the manager. The manager was on the phone an employee told me and would be out soon. I explained everything to the manager and he replied "Oh my gosh I'm so sorry that happened, that's unacceptable. We're a restaurant we're never out of knives. Whoever told you that was incorrect and if it was a runner you told they should have told your waiter or gotten it theirselves because they know where silverware are. I know it's a little late but do you still need a knife?". I said yes, he got me a knife, and then he stated he would talk to some people and be back around to our table to check on my grandma. He went up to the hostess stand and acted like he was doing something/all serious, disappeared, and never came and checked on my grandma. We did NOT want anything free out of this- him checking on her would have sufficed, and knowing they actually cared. But honestly the least they could have done was offer for HER meal to be free (the one who almost choked to death due to their negligence). Will never be coming back here. Good atmosphere, good service, good value, and good sushi. This place is known for the all-you-can-eat sushi, so I had to give it a try. The restaurant is clean, offers plenty of privacy, and even has very nice bathrooms. And while it's not the best sushi I've ever had, like at the fish market in Tokyo, it's still excellent. They smartly don't allow you to order sashimi, because rice will fill you up quicker, and the price has increased $19.95/person for lunch. However, I was extremely pleased. The deal also allows you to choose soup, salad, Ice cream, countless options of sushi and fried rice. They brought out the sushi usually within about 7 or 8 minutes of ordering, and were professional and friendly. I will certainly return and update the review if anything changes. read more

I pray a manager reads this. I've been a Sushi Masa regular for 2 years. I brought my parents here on Jan 14. Beaming about this place. I put our name on the list & sat down at the bar. Seeing 3 spots open. A brunette bartender in her 40s comes over. Asks what I want to drink/eat. I said, "let me make sure my parents are ok with having dinner at the bar." She huffed & walked away. As if I'm wasting her time by occupying a seat. In hindsight, I wish I'd gotten up & waited for a table. It was a crowded bar with ZERO social distancing going on. A lady plopped down next to me. Inches away. Mom & Dad DONT like sushi but they still did the "All U Can Eat" with soup, salad & teriyaki chicken. They didn't order much! So Im still baffled as to why the bartender had such an ATTITUDE with us. A food runner comes over with chicken fried rice & shrimp fried rice. Asks if it's ours. We say no. Another 2 couples say no. Food runner leaves 2 rice bowls with bartender. She comes over, asks is this yours? We say no. (Personal note. I'm here to eat sushi NOT fill up on rice.) She walks away. Grumbling under her breath. She comes back & dramatically SLAMS a bowl of rice in front of me & says YES THIS IS YOURS, YOU ORDERED IT. If you don't eat it, I'm charging you. What happened to the customer is always right?! I felt humiliated. Scolded. Shamed. I could feel my cheeks getting red & hot. I have PTSD & this nasty bartender triggered a panic attack. What an atrocious display from an employee I KNOW has worked there for years & is likely a manager. What a lack of professionalism. Lack of customer service. What happened to kindness? Courtesy? I wanted to CRY & leave. Now the story still isn't over. My mom ate half the rice just to be accommodating. Same Bartender asks if we want dessert. I order 2 pieces of cheesecake. She says disparagingly "YOU WANT 2. In addition to what you've already had." I said, "Umm I've not had any dessert yet. Are you confusing me with someone else. Sushi masa is a good place to go for all you can eat. I always go in with the mindset of quantity over quality when going to an all you can eat. I think this held true for sushi masa. The sushi wasn't bad by any means. I was surprised by the number of cooked vs raw rolls they had available. I was expecting more raw rolls. The service was a little slow. The rolls took a while and ordering seaweed salad took even longer even though seaweed salad doesn't need any preparation. I'd go again for the all you can eat. read more

Before covid we came here more often. It's been since the beginning of the year that we were last here. This is the first restaurant my husband has been to since covid broke out. Which is nice and surprising at the same time. I had a great night dining with him and my family. The servers all wore masks and it does make us feel much more comfortable. I do wish the tables were a bit further away from each other; tables were still in the same position as they were prior to covid. Does not seem like they social distance in that aspect. Food still tastes the same. We had the all you can eat sushi for dinner. Server was amazing and very attentive. Food came out very quickly for us (5 adults, 1 child). At one point the fire alarm rang and the gas was completely shut off. Firefighters came, I'm sure several customers left because the hibachi grill could not be used. But it was not their fault. Things happen and sometimes it's out of their control. I would have taken pictures of all of our good food, but the phone was taken by my daughter. During my time in Pensacola, I've eaten at Sushi Masa quite a few times. I've only had their buffet menu, which in my opinion, is their best value! (Of course, it's a great value, only if you have a HUGE appetite like myself). For $26/pp for AYCE dinner, there is no better deal in town! The buffet menu has plenty of variety for everyone to enjoy something and the overall quality of the food is not lacking at all. I especially enjoy sitting at the bar, where I can enjoy the food, have a drink, have a nice conversation with the bartender, my fellow patrons beside me, or just watch TV on one of the few screens above the bar. And for those over the age of 21, they have a decent selection of beer, wine and liquor. Their bartenders are also very efficient at making a variety of drinks, especially for pairing with the food! If you love sushi and you haven't eaten at Sushi Masa, I highly recommend you give this spot a try! You won't be disappointed. :D read more

The rice was very .dry. It was so dark that it was hard to read the menu, at lunch. Almost everything had fake crab that I do not like. The fried rolls were fried too hard and the oil tasted old. The fish was so tiny in the rolls I couldn't even find it. we both asked for all you you could eat sushi, but only one of us was charged for it, the other person was charged for everything. Over the past two, three months I've been frequenting this spot with either my husband, my friends, or both. The all you can eat option is $10 cheaper at lunch, so I definitely recommend if you can get there earlier and have patience for waiting because they do get busy. SERVICE: I want to start off by saying that every time I've gotten Anni and Jared as servers, they're both AMAZING & so sweet! We always have a well rounded, fun experience whenever they are our servers. Now, the reason why I'm giving this place a 4 star review is because of the SERVER IAN. BEWARE OF HIM. I get that people have bad days, we're all human. But when you blatantly look at my table of BIPOC folks and give us the stink eye, look down on us, talk in a mocking tone, & roll your eyes like you're five years old, that's where I draw the line. It got to the point where I blatantly ignored his existence multiple times and just left my table to ask someone else. He refused to fix his attitude and ignored our table, having us stop eating because we needed refills on drinks but he was nowhere to be seen. He kept trying to rush us out like he had somewhere to be, besides his job. AVOID HAVING IAN AS YOUR SERVER IF YOU WANT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE. Other workers there told me customers even come back the next day to complain about the previous service by him. At this point, he should be fired. I want to thank the wonderful bartenders Fae & Megan, as well as the manager Destiny for helping myself and my table out that night & really completely turning around the terrible experience we had with Ian. I spoke with the ladies when I had issues and Destiny was kind enough to finish my transaction and give me a discount for the terrible service, which was much appreciated especially when it wasn't expected. I was so over the moon with the service by these three ladies, I tipped the bartenders TWICE. Both a big tip on card and in cash.
