Finally worked our way back to this restaurant after many years of it never working out, either cause we eat early (they close between lunch and dinner)like we are 80 or they were so busy we didn't want to wait. Saturday night was no exception for the busy, but we were childless, so it made the 35 min wait a little more doable. We had a great server who brought us drinks immediately. He had tons of tables and kept up so efficiently. The sushi was a little longer of a wait. The server apologized profusely, once again, not as big of a deal because of no kids. When the rolls came, they were full of flavor and delicious. This is a rarity for the hubs to allow me a choice of sushi and I took full advantage. Unlimited rolls as long as you eat them all or they charge $.75 fee per piece left. Challenge accepted. Ha The ambiance is a little outdated. I've been to the All you can eat sushi one time and it just wasn't worth it, two people 4 sushi rolls = $50+ and we were struggling to finish But they had a calamari roll that I can't find anywhere else. Then I saw the lunch specials 3 rolls for $13.50 + appetizer and soup, what a deal! I ended up getting the calamari roll and two other rolls I can't even remember, miso soup, and harumaki. The server brought crab Rangoon and then told me to just keep it. I couldn't even finish those three rolls. The Batman wearing buckle guy waiter seems pissed to even work there, and scoffs at the sushi...AND he should! This place was maybe 5th sixth in KC and slid tonight to rock bottom. People will tell you there's no such thing as good, affordable sushi in KC, but they're wrong. Sushi Mido manages to straddle the line dividing value and quality, delivering maybe the only all you can eat (AYCE) sushi experience worth trying in the area. They have some standard combos for you vanilla folks (rainbow rolls, classic nigiri sushi) but they also have some out of this world combos. You might balk at the idea of kiwi sauce and fried spider crab on the same roll, but do not sleep on the Spider-Man, which masterfully combines both. The staff is ultra friendly. Make sure you tell them 'itadakimasu' before eating. read more

This was the first time my husband and I decided to try an All you can eat Sushi. We're kind of Sushi snobs and have had delicious sushi and sashimi at some of the best restaurants like Osaka (Dallas, Texas), Nara (Colorado springs, CO) and Ichi Umi (New York). The sushi rolls here at Sushi mido were good. We did not find them to be as authentic as at the places listed above but we sure did have a good evening. The All you can eat Sushi rolls is a good deal if you know what rolls to order. We referred the ala carte menu for the description of the rolls mentioned on the AYCE menu and ordered the following: 1st order of rolls: 1. Dragon- cooked roll with eel and avacado. Tasted well. 2. California- pretty small in size but tasty! 3. Ocean star- raw roll, great presentation. Tasted well. 4. Dinosaur- deep fried and served hot with drizzles of sauces. 2nd order of rolls: 1. Batman- fish and avacado, standard roll. 2. Shrimp Tempura- pretty thin rolls, fairly difficult to pick up with chopsticks and fell apart when picked up. 3. Hawaii- very very spicy. The Jalepeno (hits your tongue) and accompaniments wrapped in soy paper- good. I liked the heat and it turned out to be my favorite roll of the evening. The miso soup was good and the crab rangoons served hot. Our server was outstanding, quick and explained everything very well but the making/cooking of the rolls took a lot of time. About the $0.75 charge on leftover rolls- One of our sushi rolls fell down on the floor and was wasted but we weren't charged anything. It was a good date night! read more

They're only doing carry out and delivery right now, but I recommend it. We liked everything we ordered, although I thought the Narudo Maki appetizer was bland. Really appreciate how well everything was packaged for carry out- good, tightly sealed containers plus napkins, cutlery, and a variety of sauces. i wasn't thrilled about their food. i appreciate their lunch kitchen special, but it want anything impressive. i ordered the salmon teriyaki special, and hubs ordered a katsudon bento. the food arrived soon after we ordered, and i immediately wished i was that person to ask for the sauce in the side. i mean, my dish was drenched in teriyaki, and i don't love that at all. not to mention, i received shrimp teriyaki instead of the salmon i ordered. my sole complaint, besides receiving the wrong item, was the sauciness of the dish. i dreaded eating my veggies, when i'd initially anticipated them to be a source of refreshment between bites of teriyaki fish and rice. my husband's pork katsudon was soggy. i didn't love it, but he was fine with it. all-in-all, not really impressed. hubs said he'd come for their all-you-can-eat sushi, so i guess this is another option for those who are interested you may site the word "harumaki" on the menu, and that is just the japanese word for "spring roll". those, by the way, tasted like i could've purchased these as mini bites from walmart and toasted them in a mini oven. read more

"The restaurant record for one individual is 19 sushi rolls?!" - My response to our waitress after my wife and I finished 14 rolls $25 all you can eat sushi rolls is usually good enough for a sell. $25 all you can eat delicious mouthwatering sushu rolls is raising the bar! Sushi Mido is a godsend to meet your sushi cravings in the KC area, heres why: 1) The price is right. In order to roughly break even, each person needs to consume 4 rolls for the all you can eat option. This is very achievable due to the portion size and the next following factor... 2) They don't use too much rice. Not only was their rice the perfect texture (not overly sticky or soaked in vinegar too long), the amount used to line the seawood was perfect. This alllwed for a perfect harmony in your mouth after each bite. This is a common mistake other sushi places make that I've seen, were they overload on rice to save money and in result lowering their sushi roll quality. 3) The eel sauce is on point! The sauce they use is not so syrupy, but more watery. This is actually genius because it goes so well with their perfectly textured rice in the rolls, also not overwhelming the flavor of the fish itself! The only downside is that they don't offer sashimi in the all you can eat deal. However, with variegated types of delicious roles, free 2 sidedishes, and a BYOB option, this place is now a mandatory stop for my wife and I when we return to KC. Highly recommend atleast trying the Batman roll once, otherwise our favorites where the eel rolls, salmon rolls, lobster rolls, and the angry dragon rolls! read more

Hands down my favorite sushi place in the metro! The variety and quality are astounding and the value is just too good to pass up. $25 gets you all you can eat sushi, your choice of soup, and your choice of appetizer. It's best to go with a group of people so you can order a lot at once. The Snow White is my favorite roll there. I want to be clear that a 3-star review isn't bad. I would eat here again. Customer experience: positive Our glasses stayed full despite how busy the day was for our waitress. She clearly explained the menu and the rules around the unlimited sushi. She wasn't rude and she was very attentive. Food quality: mixed The miso was fairly average and the crab rangoon was very nice but you have to wonder what quality all-you-can-eat sushi will be. The answer is, better than grocery store sushi but not even close to higher-end establishments or sushi prepared by a trained sushi chef. If you're looking for authentic sushi and not California rolls you might not enjoy the experience much. Rice and avocado are added very liberally as filler and to make you full faster. One thing that might not matter for you but they only have the American horse reddish wasabi and not authentic wasabi. Price to the quality ratio: positive 28 dollars for all you can eat (the price has gone up from when it was 25) is a decent price if you can eat enough sushi to make the price worth it. Keep in mind anything left on the plate can't be taken home and you've charged 75 cents per piece you Don't eat. If you can eat 120 dollars worth of sushi for that 28 dollars it being a bit lower in terms of quality won't bother you in the least. Summary: Sushi Mido is the only all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant I have ever heard of in Kansas City and that novelty is worth a visit alone. While id give it a solid C+ in terms of sushi quality, you can spend 30 dollars and eat like the king or queen of sushi as long as you have the stomach for it. read more

You know those kitschy restaurants where you go and the servers are intentionally rude to you and it's all part of the experience? That's what the servers are like here, except they're not being kitschy. They really are just mean and rude. The sushi itself and the sushi chefs are respectful, kind and take pride in their work. The CIS white male servers that work there are jerks. Because of that, I've stopped going. This issue has happened twice thus far. The AYCE is $24.95 and has a huge selection of sushi you can choose from! They start you off with soup or salad and crab Rangoon or spring roll. We both tried 7 different rolls total and loved every single one of them. My favorites were the rock-n-roll and dinosaur roll! They don't let you take any leftovers home and charge you $.75 for each uneaten piece you leave behind so be sure to come hungry and only order what you know you can finish! I loved it so much, I brought my sister-in-law a few days later during lunch time (which is a total steal btw) and it was just as good! We each ordered the lunch special which consists of 3 rolls for $13.95 and also included soup and a Crab Rangoon! The sushi here is so filling that we both took home leftovers! We went around 1pm on a Saturday and the service was spotty! Our waitress would leave and not return for 15-20 minutes at a time but she was very nice!
