This is my first yelp review. I live in Boston, came to Worcester yesterday for my son's swimming meet. We lived in Japan for 5 years. I asked what my children wanted to eat, they said Japanese. I searched online and found this place. People have different opinion and preference for food. The only thing I want to say is that this is the real Japanese food you will get. Not a western style sushi that particular targets American people. They have fresh material, from a cup of Japanese tea to the desert, everything is amazing. I will definitely comes back to all swimming meet that host here for this restaurant. We came around 8. 30pm, waiting was about 30mins on Friday night. People kept coming in until 9. 50. My all time favourite sushi place is Fish market sushi bar but now that I live in Sutton, it is a hike to go there whenever I crave sushi. Which is pretty often. So I am so ecstatic that I have found Sushi Miyazawa. Not only is the food prepared by Japanese chefs, everything tastes almost just as good as Fish market. So in a way I feel like I am there. My colleague and I visited and were immediately impressed to find a Japanese trained sushi chef at the helm. This is a BYOB place which they prominently promote via signage and the menu. We started with soup & salads which were very good. We also had the spicy tuna roll along with the specialty lobster roll which has tuna and some crab. Excellent. The service was great. As far as the quality of the sushi and sushimi are concerned, I would give 5 stars. There is a part that bothered me almost to the verge of walking out prior to being served. In a world of high risk foods such as sushi and sushimi, you should go to the highest level of sanitation. The sushi chef obviously felt most comfortable making his creations by "hand". He would sometimes handle the raw fish with a plastic glove, but most of the time he was using his bare hands. The part where I almost walked out was when he sneezed. He had turned from the food and went towards the back wall to sneeze openly, then sneezed again into his hands. He started walking back, looked at me and then went over to the sink to wash his hands. He then put on the plastic glove to his right hand while his left hand was used for positioning the food on the plate (no glove). Again, the food is great, but all great chefs need to take food safety very seriously. read more

Hands down the best sushi I've had in Worcester. Everything was so fresh and tasty. We went for the lunch special and I had 3 Maki rolls and the side salad. I really wish I had known that the spicy ramen is a dish only available during lunch 2 days a week because I would have gotten that as well... everyone around us had these heaping bowls of ramen that looked like pure heaven. The ambience is super chill, they only have seating for maybe 20 people so plan to wait if you go at a popular time. We went on a Saturday at 1pm and got the last two seats. They did accommodate people coming in even right up to their posted closing time of 2pm, doesn't seem like they were rushing anyone or turning them away. The BYOB was a nice touch. I would have given this place 5+ stars if you had asked me about half a year ago when it was new. It seems like back then when the restaurant wasn't as popular, they really put the quality into their sushi and you could taste the authenticity. It truly was some of the best sushi. Unfortunately, nowadays with the amount of patrons that file in for dinner, they can't keep up and the food suffers. Service is always friendly, but the food isn't the same. It seems to be slapped together with whatever leftover pieces of fish they have. On busy nights expect to have to wait, and to spend 1-2 hours there for a dinner. We got their ebi shumai as an appetizer. It had excellent flavor and was on the softer/mushy side than what you might find at dim sum in Chinatown. We ordered the miyabi roll and it was absolutely delightful. We also ordered the $35 Omakase NiGiri - chef's choice for 10 pieces of sushi and comes with miso soup and a house salad. The house salad was simple, but I could drizzle that dressing on everything. The miso soup had a hearty flavor and not overly watered down tasting. The 10 pieces of sushi were each so different from one another. My boyfriend and I took bites of each so we could try every single one, but it probably would have been easier if we ordered our own. Regardless it was a super fun experience as we got to give our take on each piece of sushi. It's a small restaurant with seats in the lobby while you wait. We got seated pretty quickly despite their estimated wait time and were placed by the sushi bar where you can watch them make all the rolls. Best of all, it's BYOB so you can bring your own bottle of wine or whatever and spend more on quality food! It was all very fresh and delicious! I went during lunch time during a weekday so it was pretty dead. It's a little whole in the Wall kinda place, located in the same plaza as Nancy Chang's. They offer really good lunch specials, mainly just sushi dishes but they do offer one udon dish. Their sushi is a pretty decent price for the quality. I've been to Japan 4-5 times and this place looks and feels like I'm back. The chef is a true artisan and there is a level of craft to the food you won't find anywhere outside of major cities. Here's the big news: I don't eat Sushi. Or I should say I don't eat raw fish. You'd think I'd have trouble finding something to eat in Japan but it's never been a problem and it's not here either. My wife raves about the Sushi so I take her word for it, but if you have friends who don't eat the raw stuff either rest assured there are some really good options here for them too; Edamame- Steamed and salted soybeans. I don't love vegetables either (yes I'm a picky eater) but these are outstanding. Oshinko- pickled vegetables-- a great palette cleanser and a nice little appetizer. Gyoza-- Oh the Gyoza. Chicken and pork dumplings steamed or grilled and they are out of this world. Make sure you use the Gyoza sauce with them. House Salad and the Avocado Salad are both really good. California Roll -- it's just veggies as a sushi roll. Nice way to introduce someone to sushi. So there you have it-- even if you don't love raw fish there is plenty to eat here and it's a great little place hidden next to Nancy Chang. read more

I saw the place on Yelp as I was craving sushi, we got there me and my wife and was surprised that the place is BYOB even so we sat down and the server was very nice not many tables as they have sushi bar that can seat maybe 8 people max and about 5tables. Their menu is limited to only sushi I kinda wanted some fried rice or other options to go with my sushi but nevertheless we ordered few different rolls and was not impressed had much better sushi somewhere else especially that I paid almost 17 dollars for one special roll that was kinda bland. With only 18 seats and Nori-san doing all the preparations, it's an intimate space that reminds me of space-strapped restaurants in Japan. We had the omakase, the chef's choice, which certainly didn't disappoint. We specified the price per person, $35- the minimum, told Nori-san our preferences, and he made two compilations of sushi. Every piece was delicate and flavorful, with the simple flavor of the fish shining through. Finally I had the food and it was super fresh, usually I save yellowtail for last and it always changes to a white color and the smell of it changes as well, but here it stayed the same color and didn't smell.
