Sushi was excellent! Very fresh and so yummy! Prices were reasonable and the service was friendly. We saw the 5 star reviews so we wanted to check it out ourselves and left very happy! It says Sushi Sho on the door so be sure to not miss it. We will be back!

I am constantly on the prowl for the best sushi spot in LA, specifically I love toro, otoro, bluefin, and salmon. Also I am a sucker for a good Philadelphia role, don't judge me. The sushi here has changed the playing field for me, this beats ALL my previous sushi reviews in LA in ALL aspects. The sushi was incredible, every piece melts in your mouth and I truly couldn't pick a favorite. The otoro tasted like it was flown in from Japan earlier that day. I also got a toro roll with cream cheese added, that was the best roll I have ever had in my life. Also got a salmon and avocado roll, that was the closest to authentic Japanese sushi in terms of how it's made I have had, This is a super small place, very easy to miss, it's not on the corner. The inside is cute, and the service is incredible. It seems to be owned by a Japanese couple that runs the entire place. This reminded me so much of my time in the countryside of Japan, and it felt very authentic and like they really cared what they are serving. The prices are reasonable and a place you can visit often without breaking the bank. The sushi prices and roll prices are amazing. Also got matcha here, also ceremonial matcha that was so tasteful. This is by far the best sushi in Hollywood, the best sushi on melrose, and the best sushi in West Hollywood, best sushi in LA. PLEASE, don't skip out on this place. They also do omasake if you want to sit at the bar and are feeling creative. Great date night sushi spot, lowkey, better than nobu on any day of the week. I hate to give away a secret spot with high quality sushi and great prices, but this place and the wonderful owners deserve it. You will not be disappointed.

Absolutely loved this place. The sushi was fresh, beautifully prepared, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. The ambiance was calm and elegant. It honestly felt like having lunch somewhere in Japan. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely one of those spots where every detail feels cared for. I'll be coming back for sure!

We came to Sushi N Matcha on a whim and are so happy we did! Incredible quality tucked away in a little Melrose corner. It felt like a husband and wife duo and they were both so sweet and attentive as well as neighborly. Our usual spot in the neighborhood has changed owners and we were so disappointed bc with that comes menu and quality changes and so we're super happy to find a place that matches that precious aura. Their sushi was so great that we wanted to come back again same day. Will def be regulars here, please never sacrifice the quality!

Such a solid place, the prices are very affordable, food is really good. We went for lunch time and ordered 2 lunch specials. We were very satisfied with the portions and service was so kind and fast!

    Deluxe chirashi bowl. Yum!

I've walked by this little spot a bunch of times on the way to somewhere else. But tonight I finally found my way in, and I'm very glad I did! It's the very definition of a mom 'n pop shop, as it's run by a husband and wife team; he is the sushi chef and she takes care of front-of-house. The inside is tranquil, with low-key, calming art on the walls. (The outside signage is low-key as well.) I should note that the owners are super lovely people who are originally from Tokyo. But of course the food is the thing. I was craving a chirashi bowl, so I ordered their deluxe bowl (I think the non-deluxe version is lunch only, but that was fine by me.) It comes with miso soup (ample and tasty), and then came the chirashi bowl itself, which offered a varied selection of items (including uni and, I think, a piece of toro as well) and was exactly the right size. The fish was fresh, tasty and nicely prepared (the uni was especially yummy), and in the end, I left nothing in my bowl but a few grains of rice and a bit of wasabi. I'd happily order it again, though I think next time I may want to try some new menu items just to explore. Ultimately, this is a great neighborhood sushi restaurant--it's no surprise to see all of the other five-star reviews--and it will be joining my rotation.

A wonderful mom and pop shop that serves delicious sushi! It's an older couple who opened this restaurant a little over 2 years ago and are the sweetest. I'm shocked this place hasn't been reviewed more because everything we had was tasty and fresh. We shared Course B. The appetizer was a crispy skin salmon salad and our sashimi was thick salmon pieces. The dessert was a hojicha affogato. We also got an additional yellowtail hand cut roll. We will definitely come back here. Parking is street parking all over.

tried this place for the first time on doordash and it did not disappoint. the fish was super fresh, the rice perfectly cooked, and everything arrived at the right temperature. flavors were clean and balanced, and you can tell they actually care about quality. prices are really fair too for the freshness and taste you get. will definitely be ordering again soon!

It is a neat little neighborhood restaurant. The chief makes perfect sushi, not too much rice, or too much fish, it's just perfect balance. The ingredients are fresh as well, which make the food delicious. The service is good also, not too much but also not distant.

amazing fresh fish and authentic matcha! very nice chef and waitress. overall wonderful experience will definitely come back again :)

Toro and tamago. Tamago is often considered the true test of a chef's skills. The single-piece portions avoid the sticker shock of the toro

I was afraid that everything was going to be extremely heavy, like French cuisine can be with all the cheese and butter. But I ordered the Combo of the Lemon Butter Chicken Ramen and a side of the Miso Teri Bowl (in case the ramen would be too much for me), and I was blown away by both dishes. The Lemon Butter is NOT heavy at all. It felt light and savory, but had a depth of flavor that's hard to identify because this is a dish I have never had anywhere else before. I can see why it's the most popular item on the menu. I took the side of Miso Teri Bowl home for dinner as the ramen was filling enough. There's a hint of wasabi in the dressing they drizzle over the shredded green onions that elevate this dish from other Teriyaki Chicken bowls I've had. Just DELICIOUS. I'd come back to Tonsho just for this rice bowl. My friend got the Dan Dan Ramen which he said blew his mind. He was surprised by the lightness of the broth, which is unlike the Chinese Dan Dan which is usually made of heavy creamy sesame paste. He actually drank most of the broth, and didn't feel like he was cheating on his diet. Additionally, the design of the restaurant, from the layout to the choice of bowls and utensils reminded me of a certain 2-Michelin Star restaurant in Culver City. The service was bar none. The waitress was attentive and thoughtful, even getting us a glass of water after we had been sitting there for another hour after paying our check. We never felt rushed or pushed out. Five stars, period. Coming back for more.

The restaurant isn't crowded on a Thursday evening and I was seated immediately. Original ramen 5/5 has a stronger chicken broth flavor. Lemon butter ramen 4/5 is masked more with the buttery and creamy flavor. So the chicken broth flavor isn't as strong. Miso teri bowl 5/5 has a charcoaled flavor and is favored well by my group. Gyoza 5/5 is okay. You can't go wrong with gyoza. Overall, the ramen this restaurant used is a wheat type, not egg. The ramen noodles have speckles of wheat on them and appear much more clear. My table thought the wheat flavor was too overwhelming while I didn't think so. I definitely like the original ramen more because it has a stronger chicken f

Instead of the traditional nori typically used for handrolls, they served a salted, crispy version. While some diners may enjoy the added texture, it wasn't quite for me. It reminded me of the seasoned seaweed used in Korean kimbap--similar to what I buy at Costco and use at home--which took away from the experience I expect from a classic handroll. The fish itself was fresh and above average, especially considering the lunch special pricing. Overall, it was a solid meal, but if I order this again, I would definitely request traditional nori to better complement the quality of the fish.
