I cannot believe that the best sushi I've ever eaten is in a strip mall in Carrboro. Outstanding selection of roll combinations that you won't find anywhere else. The freshness and quality of their sushi is superior to any other place around. Super friendly staff and a great atmosphere. The sushi chef even came to our table to make sure our meal was satisfactory. I'm already compiling a list of friends who I can invite to join us next time we dine at Sushi Nikko. read more

I'm not sure how this place received high marks? I don't know if I was spoiled always living in coastal CA where fresh fish is expected or that I grew up in a Japanese household where my mom would go to the local fish market for the freshest sashimi, but I was very disappointed. The fish was not fresh tasting at all. Yellowtail should taste almost like butter, silky to the tongue not fishy. Even the avocado in the sushi roll looked & tasted overripe. The fried crust on the agedashi tofu was gummy on the inside(blegh!) Instead, it should be paper thin & crispy. On the plus side, the waitress was pleasant & attentive enough. Went here for a very late lunch or early dinner so not busy and the other customers were getting takeout. Family run restaurant which is nice. Got the Agedashi Tofu which was done really well, light and delicious. Got some rolls which I think were average on flavor and a reasonable fish to rice ratio. Overall I thought the fish quality was ok. I would have to try sashimi next time to know. All in all better and more authentic feeling than sushi BOGO misc Asian food places in the area. read more

I am so excited to have a sushi place in Carrboro close to my apartment. We've been 3 times now and every time it is a great experience. I always get the bento box with 3 items with a spicy tuna roll, crunch roll and mixed tempura. The sushi always fresh and tasty and the tempura is cooked perfectly. It also comes with a small salad with ginger dressing and rice. The complimentary miso soup is good also. I really hope his place stays here for a long time! read more

My friend and I had lunch here today. We both ordered the lunch bento boxes. Everything was very tasty and the fish was fresh on my spicy tuna rolls. I went there again tonight. I go there a lot. Tonight was a little different. Two women were feeding a baby at a corner table. I sat down to watch the Mets game, and in a few minute, the Mama-san came by with the two women and the baby and said "This is my son." He seemed unimpressed -- or maybe just sleepy since it was 930 already. Later near the end of the meal, she stopped by again to ask "Do you like beer?" I said sure I like Kirin and Tiger among asian beers. You guessed it: She was back in two minutes with a Tiger and a chilled glass saying "This is on the house." Oh yes: The food was spectacular again. Go with the Tornado and Volcano rolls. Not healthy heart, but way way happy tastebuds. read more

Lunch today at Sushi Nikko was good -- friendly service and a nice combo of a tasty California roll (real crab) and six pieces of sushi. The additional order of tomago was a little off, though, and green tea came in a clear glass cup -- I prefer more traditional ceramic teacups. Next time I'll skip the add-ons. This place makes great sushi. The storefront and inside may have you skeptical, but everything we ordered was the best we've had in the area. There is an extensive menu of rolls with some really interesting combinations that we hadn't seen before. We ate in, but the take out appears to be really popular based on the number of people stopping by to pick up while we were there. While it may look unappealing from the outside, it is worth trying. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable about all the rolls and had some great suggestions based on our tastes and preferences. The complimentary Mido soup is a nice touch. The sushi was fresh and tasted delicious. The chef even came out to check on us. Very reasonably priced as well. This sushi place is amazing! My daughter and I ordered three of their HUGE rolls and it was more than enough food. The owner is so sweet and she was very attentive. This is easily my favorite sushi place in the triangle area. I live south of durham and there are a bunch of sushi places closeby, but i prefer to drive to this place for my sushi cravings. They dont do the buy one get one free deal, but their pricing is very fair for the rolls they dish out. Each roll is prepared with care, and i have had a lot of their sushi rolls at many different times with quality consistently. My favorites are the hungry roll, #33, #29, the ultimate albacore, the aloha. They also give you the best miso served absolutely free. read more

I enjoyed a late lunch here a few weeks ago, and I am finally getting around to writing a review. I don't write reviews unless I have nice things to say, and in this case I definitely do. This place is small and charming, nothing fancy, and has really fantastic sushi. I ordered two rolls and could not finish. They give you complimentary miso soup, which is such a nice surprise, and my server was incredibly helpful in picking out my rolls. I don't care for imitation crab, and when I let her know, she told me that I could substitute shrimp on any of the rolls where I saw crab, free of charge! I'm not aware of any other sushi restaurant in the triangle that will do the same. The service is what made this place charming. I wish I could remember my server's name. read more

Carrboro's best keep secret. The rolls are fantastic (the Ninja Roll is my go-to). To top it off, the service is always friendly and good at making recommendations. We ordered take out for our first experience here. I was delighted by the customer service person repeating my order back to ensure she wrote it correctly. Our order was completed well before the quoted timeframe and each item was labeled with contents. They even included a complimentary miso soup for each of the four people who would enjoy the take out order! The sushi was fresh, delicious and beautiful. The only slight criticism would be that the rolls were not as tight as they could've been and a few pieces fell apart before we could put them into our soy dish. The chicken katsu and beef yaki soba were excellent and quite authentic. We will certainly be going back for more scrumptious meals in the future! read more
