Always loved sushi palace growing up, returned recently and it was just as great. Their prices are unbeatable, service is kind and quick, and the restaurant is always clean.

    Poorly rolled sushi

Sushi was mediocre, but the sauces were terrible. Was given what I think was yum yum sauce instead of spicy mayo, and their sweet chili sauce tastes sugar-free.

    No sushi in our sushi!

Couldn't find the sushi meat in our sushi! Our eel roll was just cucumber basically. And the same thing with our other 5 rolls also. Brought it up and waitress said that was how it's supposed to be. No thanks....not going back!!

Some of the freshest sashimi I've ever had. Seriously they nailed this sashimi appetizer with pride. Thank you. Great miso soup as well!

Edamame (to go) - really fresh!

Best sushi at the beaches! For Covid they have a great to-go menu and minimal contact set up. I love the dynamite roll, which is baked salmon with spicy sauce on top. The shrimp tempura with salmon on top is also great, lots of flavor. The Philadelphia roll is my brothers favorite, it has crab and cream cheese and I like the teriyaki chicken roll, which has avocado in it. The chicken is cooked and tender and the avocado balances it out with teriyaki sauce on top. The edamame is great and super fresh! The portion is very big so it can be shared to feed multiple people. We got 4 sushi entrees and a side for less than $30, so it's not too expensive. I think it's a great value. Love this place, definitely a local staple.

Front to back: tiger, caterpillar, black dragon and chefs roll

I've made it a personal challenge to try every sushi place in Jacksonville and this cute little spot was next on my list! I came in just the other night to satisfy my (never ending) sushi craving. We were seated after a 10 minute wait but it was totally worth it. We both started out with a miso soup and after much deliberation ordered the tiger roll, caterpillar roll, black dragon and chefs roll. All were fresh and tasty-sushi perfection. The star of the show was definitely the tiger roll. It paired pineapple, cream cheese and salmon. It was our wild card pick of the night that quickly became a favorite. The sweetness of the pineapple goes great with the creaminess of the cream cheese and the delicious salmon. The prices at this place are awesome! They charge very fairly for the price and portion of the rolls. These rolls are definitely bigger than most sushi places in the area! For a party of two we paid $30! That is hard to beat!

    Sushi lunch

The lunch prices are great! We got a decent amount of food for a little over $30. I got the sushi lunch. Didn't really even read the description and it was really good! I love fresh sushi and this certainly hit the spot! I also added a side ginger salad because I'm an absolutely sucker for the ginger dressing at sushi places. It was a nice little lunch!

    Hibachi Steak supposedly

Food was very bland. What we were served for $38.00 for two togo was not Hibachi Style steak. And the rice vegetable and noodles were tasteless. Here is a picture

Small side of fried rice, tuna roll, monster roll (my favorite), rainbow roll

The staff was incredibly attentive and made us feel well cared for. Once they learned it was our anniversary, everyone greeted us warmly! Best sushi in Jacksonville, hands down! Always so fresh + flavorful with great portions. We ordered the Oceanside and Sand Dollar roll. Oceanside is a MUST try, it truly is the best sushi roll I've had in Jax. The atmosphere is luxurious and feels like you're stepping into a whole new city! Love it here!!!

This is an update to my previous 5-star review. I hope it doesn't erase all that, because it says a…read morelot of good things. Unfortunately, our last visit to O-Ku was not the best. We started with the edamame, with the sea salt and truffle oil, which is always delicious. The service over the evening was very slow, and we spent a lot of time waiting on food. We sat in our favorite spot at the bar window so our server also appeared the be working behind the bar and was busy making drinks. We love sake and usually get a bottle of the Noble Arrow. We asked for a recommendation and the server recommended the Soul of the Sensei, which is $107 for the bottle. We were celebrating our 24th anniversary so we went for it. He said it was on the dry side, but we found it very unexpectedly sweet, almost like a moskato wine. It wasn't surprising when we read the back of the label and saw the flavor profile was all the way on the fruity side, with notes of Muscat grape. We definitely made a mistake by not tasting it first, so we ended up asking for a bag to take it home and ordered 2 glasses of the Noble Arrow. It was a disappointing start. Next we ordered the yellowtail carpaccio, which was very good, although the size of the fish pieces overall seemed smaller than usual. Everything we ordered over the evening was undeniably tasty, but small. We got the Usuzukuri salmon and when they brought it, they had the tuna carpaccio as well. The person who brought it said it was a gift. Later, we were charged $2 on the bill for the "gift." It's not much, but it's just that giving us a gift and then putting a charge on the bill for it was very strange. Overall, I still love the food at O-Ku, but this was not the best experience. We had gone there previously for our anniversary and they made it feel special. This time there wasn't any kind of recognition besides possibly the "gift" we had to pay extra for. And the service was so slow that we ended up drinking the bottle of sake we didn't like rather than waiting for another drink order. Every place will have its off nights, and this unfortunately seemed to be one of them. I would still recommend going there, because even though the portions are tiny and expensive, the taste is delicious.
