I am a fan of all Sushi Palace's (except the North Haven one, see review). This one is my favorite though. Generally bigger, more room to move, bigger parking lot, almost never a wait, etc. Food always comes out within a good amount of time. My only gripe with ALL SP's is the fact that you almost always NEVER get everything you order, which to me is annoying. Especially in a bigger group of people where we can demolish two whole plates in less than 4 seconds. If I'm ordering it, I should receive it. There have been times where we didn't receive our food so we wrote it down again and didn't get it even though we ordered multiple times. Also, they seem to get aggravated with you when you ask for more of something (ginger, wasabi, etc). I think it's also weird that they don't have "fountain" drinks and rather canned drinks, probably to make more money somehow. The quality is really good here and everything we always have is very tasty. Like another reviewer mentioned, I tend to just stay away from anything tempura because it's way to breaded and will have it all over the place. I was very disappointed with my experience as I've heard so many great things about this restaurant. I did go on a Friday night and I understand it will be busy but I felt like as a customer I was ignored. I'm not even sure if we even had a waitress because so many people came back and forth our whole time there. The sushi was okay, but service was horrible. I have never been so horrified in my life. First off, my boyfriend and I walk in and are greeted by a rude hostess, but I ignored the attitude because I figured the food would make up for it. I was WRONG. No one tells you you can order unlimited sushi, all that's advertised on the "menu" is that you will be charged a Togo fee. We ordered 2 rolls each that were not worth even 5$. Sushi wasn't fresh and rice tasted off. Mushroom soup was essentially hot water with 2 mushroom slices in it. The table was disgusting, food smashed everywhere and food all over the floor. My seat was covered in food as well. Waitress snatched our order sheet from my boyfriends hands. We literally got conned into paying a 50$ meal for 2 rolls. Never been so disappointed and upset by service/food in my life. We walked in looking for a sushi spot and I wish we kept driving. I love this place. I love that I can order a little of this, and a lot of that. The sushi is very fresh, and I can eat a ton of it. I am actually one the of the people that they probably don't make money on considering I eat tons of sashimi and drink waters, lol. But hey, the place is good. Decently decorated and I can wear whatever I want there and not feel uncomfortable. With all these things considered, its probably my favorite sushi place. All you can eat sushi and kitchen menu= Yes! I love this place. It's great for a large group because you can order a lot of food and try a bit of everything. I have never had to wait for a table in the 10 or more times I've eaten here. We live almost an hour away, but we're faithful customers. I like the idea of all you can eat sushi because it seems with the high volume of sushi they are making the fish is more fresh. My two year old is always happy when we go to Sushi Palace. We let her have one of the lollipops at the entrance and she loves to eat the tofu, broccoli, and dumplings. There is something for everyone at this restaurant. One piece of advice... Don't order too much on your first round. They will bring you another set of menus to order again if you are still hungry. They don't want you to waste any food. I like this location much better than the Hamden location because there is easy and ample parking and there is almost never a wait go get in. read more

I had been going to this place many times and I really can't take this place anymore. The service is horrible. I asked to refill my water and it took the waiter almost 5mins to give me one. When I asked for another menu, the people just stood there, one of the waiter saw me having my hand up asking for help and he just turned away and ignored my request. When I wanted to order something more, the waiter/ waitress looked as if I have killed their parents. I thought I am having a buffet here? Whats with the attitude? Many times they have messed up my order and didn't bring the items that I ordered. The fish sometime tasted like it just came out from the freezer, it feels hard inside. If the price isn't fair compare to the non buffet Japanese restaurant, I wouldn't keep taking this nonsense. But enough is enough, the service is so horrible and I ended up upset almost everytime afterward, I will never goto this place again. read more

Wow, I didn't believe you could get AS MUCH as you wanted!!! -- I am just a skeptic at heart! Yes, waitstaff is slow and inattentive but, if you order enough food on your first pass, you don't seem to notice (unless of course your like me, and needed more wasabi..) The food is FRESH, FRESH, FRESH!!! Everything was great, there was absolutely nothing that was like "" I don't like that "". Nothing was slimy or mushy, on the contrary, everything was fresh (including the avocado, which just melted in your mouth). Presentation was beautiful. The Green tea was NOT watered down! BTW, it's not just all you can eat sushi / sashimi, it's all you can eat appetizers, Soups, Salads, deserts and a handful of selected Chinese dishes! I went on a Saturday, 5pm and the place was fairly empty. Perfect timing to eat (with slow service) and make the 7:55p movie @ the mall. Decor was decent - the chairs were very comfortable, allowing me to sit for awhile! The sashimi selections were impressive - not just your garden variety salmon & tuna. We had: Red Clam, Snapper, Mackerel, White Tuna + all the common types of sashimi. I'm not sure who said you could only get 1 order of Specialty Rolls - because they are dead wrong about that ! I am baffled, how do they make any money? In hindsight, I would have given this place 5 stars, if it weren't for the inattentive waitstaff, who found in more entertaining to stand near the sushi chef and giggle, than it was to make sure their patrons had everything they wanted. All in all, I would highly recommend this "palace" to any sushi lover! read more

Nice place to go if you are hungry. All- you can eat sushi and hot food items. Friends who are not fans of raw food will be able to find enough things to eat and enjoy at the same price. Also advised to make reservation, as the weekends can be packed with college students. Ambiance is fair, but food is pretty good. read more

My fiance is obsessed with Sushi Palace, and whenever we travel anywhere west of New Haven, he always wants to eat there. I'm not as much of a sushi connoisseur as he is, but I like it. They have decent all-you-can eat sushi and pretty yummy sides from the kitchen. read more

Ooh man. This place is good! I love sushi, and what I love more are sushi buffets. This place makes great tasting sushi and they don't horribly water down their green tea. Now its a coin toss between this place and sushi x (for me personally). Essentially its just a matter of travel distance. sushi palace much closer, but sushi x waitresses a whole lot cuter (yes yes I know sexist thing to say). The ambience in sushi palace is very nice, dim lighting, not harsh on the eyes considering you'll go into a delirium from eating so much. I recommend going on the weekends, that's when the kitchen specials come out. I recommend tryin the yellowtail w/ yuzu, its pretty darn good. As far as negatives are concerned, kitchen items are very slow to come out (if not forgotten). My daughter (being only 1) is unable to eat sushi, so she had to make due w/ eating her snacks we luckily had in her diaper bag. :-( just disappointed about that part read more

This place blows Sushi X away. Just went there to eat yesterday trying to find a decent sushi place. We will definitely try it out again. Very tasty specialty rolls ,hand rolls,fresh sashimi and sushi,kitchen items such as the edamame, gyoza,chicken katsu, tempura,etc. very good. Good service. Sometimes forget or omit some stuff you remember writing down.Again not as good as East or the original Aya but definitely way better then Sushi X. This place is the original Sushi Palace, and it is the best of the best in terms of quality. The sushi rice is very well made and tasty and the seafood always seems to be very fresh. There is also a kitchen menu, that has all kinds of items on it from seaweed salad to things like bbq squid and fried shrimp. You pay a single price and can get as much as you want but remember to only order what you can eat and don't waste food (feel I have to mention it since I see it happen so much at these places). This Sushi Palace looks very nice inside but is very small so there may be a long wait outside and when you get inside you will be very close to other people. The only issue that runs throughout all of the pay one and price and order as much as want sushi restaurants is that they will sometimes drop items from your order if they think you ordered too much and you may need to reorder things. So if you are like me and the people I go with that love to eat, order big but try not to overwhelm the chefs and space it out a bit. The Sushi Palace in Orange is also just as good and much larger. read more

RUDE and BAD service I have gone to their Hamden location, which was amazing, I was so happy when I found out they were opening one closer to where I live, but I was disappointed. The two stars are because the food itself was good, they lost three stars because of poor service and how rude they were. I went there in the middle of the week with a couple of my friends, the place was not busy so we were seated right away. However, by the 3rd round of ordering the people became very rude. It's not like we were ordering too little or too much. We weren't even loud or disruptive. While we were eating the people would quickly pick up our plates eventhough we weren't done with them. When we were placing our 3rd order the manager who took it that time looked annoyed and exclaimed "You're ordering again?" When they gave us our food they pretty much slammed it down, which caused my friends drinks to have half of it slosh out. Mind you the drink refills are not free. I would not go back again, I'd rather stick with Sushi X. read more

very rude customer service! very stingy with their soy sauce! my order has never been right! i asked myself numerous times why i keep going back to them just to be disappointed! my order is never ready when i get there and is never correct! i ask for a sushi lunch special and they try and jip me from getting the soup and salad! many of my coworkers have had the same experience as me lately and we will not be ordering from there anymore. i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.. their sushi is good, but everyone that works there makes any experience awful!!! they should think about hiring all new employees!!!! do not go here if you like soy sauce - for some reason its the biggest problem for t hem to give you any. !!! read more

Sushi palace is the first place that I tried sushi. This location is better than the one in Hamden, but still isn't very impressive compared to places such as Kama Sushi in Stratford. The menu is like every other sushi buffet (two sheets, one for sushi and the other for "kitchen"). Their maki choices are mostly pretty good, however the sashimi might be slightly disappointing. They stuff their rolls with so much rice you might as well call them rice rolls with different flavors. The sashimi was old and NOT fresh. I could've taken a knap while waiting for some orders. The food was alright. The major problem w/ this place is service: they are understaffed. It usually would take anywhere between 15-30mins for your order to arrive. When we went there last time, the waitress admitted that she lost our 2nd order completely. She did not even apologize, she simply said we could re-order, after a 30 mins wait! I had the worst experience at this place. Not only would we not get what we ordered, items my party and I ordered would be brought to a different table. When it came time to receive our check the wait staff ignored our table for 30 min I called the restaurant while we were at our table. Our waiter picked up the phone answered and then didn't come over to our table. We had to go up to management in order to finally pay and leave. The food was subpar and lacking any flavor, we found a bone and wrappers in our food. avoid this place at all cost and go somewhere else in the state that does sushi better. read more

I go out a few times a month to sushi places around ct. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST I HAVE EVER HAD. Plastic in the sushi rolls, items that we ordered were not delivered to our table, but to surrounding tables. The wait staff completely forgot about us that I had to call the restaurant from our table inside the restaurant, in order to finally have them come over to us. I love sushi and I was so excited to find an all you can eat place for $20 that was close to me. Sushi can get pretty expensive elsewhere and it does not have to be. Compared to what you can pay for sushi at regular prices at other restaurants, this place is a big hit. I read some reviews here that say you trade in quality for quantity and it is definitely not the case in here. The food was good and fresh and tasted no different than expensive restaurants around the area. As far as service goes, we had a very good experience and our wait staff happened to be very attentive. A lot of people here complain about the service but I think that mainly has to do with the fact that some people tend to waste a lot of food as I noticed from their tables. Just because it's all you can eat, it does not mean that you have to order the whole menu and then waste it. I think overall this place is a great deal and I would definitely go back there again. This was awful. The sushi Palace in Hamden is fantastic, but the Orange location is terrible. The servers are the rudest I've ever been waited on. You say hello, they just stare at you. I asked if they had specials like they do in Hamden. She says "No" and walks away, then brings over the specials menu. The tuna was slimy, they added extra rice to all of their rolls to make up for the teeny tiny pieces of sushi they include. The avocado was so overripe that there were brown flecks in every single roll that had avocado. My friend and I both had particles in our waters. The server took one back, but left my friend's sitting at the table. I was too nervous to drink it. I asked if there were different owners or management from the Hamden location because the fish portions and quality were so vastly different and she just said "same" and dropped the check. Very disappointed! I have to admit after reading the reviews, I was prepared for poor service, however, not as the only patrons. We sat and waited for over 30 minutes for our food and couldn't figure out why until I realized they were more concerned filling all the 'to go' orders than ours. The all you can eat deal looked pretty enticing, except the lunch deals were such a bargain, we couldn't go wrong. Though the prices were great, we def. had much better quality sushi everywhere else I've been and they def. use rice as a filler. I got the hot Saki, 50% off and seems like a great deal... until it is so watered down, it's crazy! I had 2 large saki's here and can barely finish one anywhere else we go. In addition, it was so COLD we didn't take our coats off and even the workers had theirs on. I took a pic because I didn't think anyone would believe it, but it's true. If I can find a way to add the photo, I will. Needless to say, we won't be back. There are way too many better sushi restaurants to go to with a nicer atmosphere and no smell... oh, did I say it smelled like bad fish! This is the worst place for sushi you can go to!! The service is awful. I've waited over an hour for my meal when it was just me and my mom and the restaurant wasn't even full. The servers are extremely rude. The server brought the wrong food to our table so my mother nicely said that it wasn't ours to a server and she gave a very smug look, said nothing and just walked away with the dish. A simple apology would have been nice? Or even just a smile? So unpleasant! When we asked for more water, they do the same thing: a rude, smug expression on their face like we're being annoying and then they take forever to get our water. When we told the manager how long we'd waited for food and the rude service, he rushed away from us and didn't even apologize. I will never ever come back here! I used to come all he time and now it's just gone completely downhill. And I tell everyone not to come here. I recommend Sushi X in West Haven. Cheaper, better quality, and the servers are SUCH a pleasure! They actually seem like they WANT to take care of you. I hope Sushi Palace improves or they will soon fail. read more
