We had high hopes walking into a full house and not having had sushi since moving up from Dallas. We rarely frequent any type of buffets but this place was highly recommended by a few people. This place is good! One of our favorite family friendly all you can eat sushi places went out of business so we decided to give Sushi Palace a try. Needless to say it is our new favorite place. They were very attentive and went out of their way to make our two year old happy. The sushi was good quality and they had numerous creative rolls. My favorite is the spicy tuna with crab and my wife loved the Butterfly roll (lobster with mango, sweet chili sauce, and pink soy bean paper). This is my most favorite place to get sushi. We are always greeted warmly and served quickly. For those who complain about the decor - yes, it's minimal, but not unpleasant. I have only had positive experiences with the staff - some may have limited English so your interactions might be different than you'd have with a chatty barista or diner waitress, but they are perfectly nice. It's a Japanese restaurant! Of course it makes sense that the wait staff is not American! My husband and I go here regularly - once a month roughly - and I have never been disappointed. I love the butterfly roll with the sweet chili sauce and the green tea ice cream is delicious. this is the place to go to when you need volumetric( e.g. lots of at a decent price) sushi- sushi is tasty but obviously not the kind you get at an upscale creative establishment. it's just basic sushi but the advantage is that you can order soup dumplings etc for a group with a big appetite. I would agree that the service isn''t too good. the last time we were there the waitress poured our water and spilled lots of water on the table and into my soy sauce/wasabi . no apology on her part! and they do omit rolls which normally would annoy me but honestly we go here when we are hungry and probably overorder so it works out. read more

As far as all you can eat sushi places are concerned this is by far the best one i have ever eaten at. They do quite a lot of business so the fish is always fresh. The only reason I'm taking a star away from them is that when you order the all you can eat about 80% of the time not everything you order come out. Awful, awful, awful! Black avocado in the sushi, had to ask for soup 3 times and the kitchen items (rock shrimp especially) were very low quality. $20 for AYCE sushi? Sign me up! We arrived as a party of 4 on a Tuesday night (12/01/15) and were seated immediately. I was cautious and did not have too high of expectations, but the food was great. The waitresses, although not very enthusiastic, did their jobs - refilled our waters, picked up our empty plates, and were attentive to when we were ready to order again. We started with some apps: seaweed salad, edamame, calamari, BBQ squid, and shrimp tempura. No problems with any of those choices. Then the sushi party began. This used to be our go to sushi place. It's close, and reasonably priced. Tonight, it was like we walked into romper room. There were nothing but groups of teenagers at tables, it was like those all ages nights at clubs in New Haven back in the days of yore (and yes, I realize how old that makes me sound ). Tonight we went there and were seated right away. We were served our drinks and our kitchen order, and were waiting for our sushi order. The manager or whoever was working the seating sat 4 young boys next to us (probably high school or early college age). They were vulgar, swearing and talking filthy, with my two young children literally sitting two feet away from them. I was clearly not happy, so I went to talk to the person working the seating/host station. We asked to be moved because of the inappropriateness of what was going on and they responded "we've got reservations coming sorry we can't move you" so we said that if we can't be moved we would leave. They said "fine, leave well easily fill your table." I was appalled at the lack of service and disregard for a customer that I KNOW they remember. The boys should be ashamed of themselves for talking like that in front of young children, and the establishment should be ashamed of themselves for not doing something about it. read more

My favorite sushi restaurant in the New Haven area. The $20 all you can eat deal is fantastic- I always eat a lot and it definately is a save versus buying individual rolls. My favorites are the Volcano roll and the Kuchi special- but I've tried most of the special rolls and all are very good. The wait staff is quiet, but very friendly and attentive. I'm glad to say I have become a regular and will continue dining here. read more

This place is awful. Poorly written menu. Salad was iceberg, shaved 1/2 of a baby carrot and the tofu dinner was breaded large chunks of tofu with sauce lightly drizzled over it. I left the food untouched. Their sushi may be better but their fusion is awful! read more

This sushi place is a hit or miss. Foods great, Service not so great. I been looking for a decent sushi place ever since the one I use to go to closed. I discovered this restaurant through a friend who said they had great sushi. I been going to the sushi palace every once in a while to eat with friends or family. The thing about this place that draws me to go again is the close location in the decent sushi. The sushi is pretty good, where they are not shy with their servings. You do get a bang for your buck with their all you can't eat. Compare to other sushi places I've been, they seem more authentic. However, this restaurant is a hit or miss. Although, their food is good their service is horrendous. There has been multiple occasions where they have made me wait for a long period of time to be seated just to wait even longer for the server. My very first visit to the restaurant, I placed my order just wait well over 30 mins before I realized my server never placed my order of sushi. I understand that in the restaurant business it gets hectic trying to attend everyones needs, but when I run into bad service when the restaurant is not pack, its unacceptable. To wrap this review up about Sushi Palace, expect long waits and be on top of your server to make sure they put in your order. Hit or miss on service. I stood at the front once for 12 minutes waiting to be seated. I ended up calling the restaurant to get someone's attention. Once we were seated, it was a while before someone came over to take our drink order. Then once they took our food order they delivered all the sides and sushi at once which was too much. We notice one large plate of sushi was not ours, about 20 minutes went by before we were able to flag the waitress down. They took the plate i watched as they brought the plate to the front and not even 5 minutes later delivered the same plate to another table. I was shocked! It's unbelievable that I'm even writing a one star review for a place that I've loved for many years. I live in Hamden a frequently Stop in for lunch in that location. I decided to bring my family to the orange location to celebrate a birthday. It was one of the worst decisions I could have possibly made. The sushi as always was 5 star worthy, but everything else was lackluster. We didn't receive half of what we order, and when we let the server know she laughed and went Into the kitchen. 20 minutes later we asked for those items again. She nervously laughed again and told us she told the chef and told us she'd be right back.... we saw her go around talk to the other tables and ignore us for the next 10 minutes. Meanwhile none of the food we were waiting came out. We finally waived her down and asked to speak to the manager, and saw her laughing from a distance and she thought this was pretty all pretty funny. I got a nice laugh leaving the zero tip. So I guess we both shared a laugh at the end. So this unprofessional server has lost my business and that of my families. I will continue to support the Hamden location. The manager did reduce the bill by 30 percent. But at $24 a person for the all you can eat and the amount of food we actually did consume, we still felt pretty ripped off and saddened by the way this was handled and the overall dining experience. read more

The last time I go to this location. Worst service by the waitresses. They're all super rude and don't give a crap if you say anything. They don't say one word to word unless it's "anything to drink?". If you dont like being a waitress, get another job or get a better attitude. I mean if you're working for tips you would expect at least an apology once for messing up. We received maybe 3 out of 8 items from the appetizer sheet. We received 3 plates of teriyaki chicken which we didn't even order. This has happened about two times in the past. When we were finally asked if we were alright by a nice gentlemen server, we were only asked if we didnt want it. Never if we'd like the other things we originally ordered. We waited an hour and a half to be seat and when we were, we were seated at the bar in the corner. I've been to the place several times now. And i always felt that their service was horrible. But today was the worst and i am NOT going back there again! Yeah, all you can eat sushi and sashimi is good if you could get what you order! I ordered sashimi with some special rolls on a same order sheet and never got sashimi until we were done eating all the rolls that we ordered. I had to ask 3 different people to check on our sashimi order. Everytime i asked, they said that it's coming. When i couldn't wait any longer, i complained that we still didn't receive the food. The guy came to me and said it was made but it was sent out? so i have to order again. So i reordered but guess what! we never got our sashimi until we left the place. We came on Tuesday afternoon with just a few tables occupied, and yet we still got very rude services from the manager and staff. In addition, the sashimi slices were so thin and small that practically you could see through each of them, sushi and rolls were packed with so much rice that one or two would fill you up in no time.
