This is a great Japanese restaurant for sushi, sashimi, bento and other items. It has a bit standard Japanese dining decor, and fairly relaxing. Plenty parkings out front since it's inside the safeway shopping center. We've dined here multiple times also ordered catering for parties . And we enjoyed the delicious foods every time. Service has been wonderful, considerate and attentive. Highly recommend by @winedinenvacay

I'll be honest, this restaurant is deceiving. I've been visiting this shopping center for years and seen the restaurant title above the awning, but never ventured inside. The windows are covered and I just wasn't quite sure what was going on in there. Finally, my dining companion and I decided to give it a try and I don't know why we waited and were reluctant to enter. Sushi Q is a Maryland chain of 8 restaurants. I believe the Elk Ridge location was there first. They offer sushi as the restaurant name implies, but also Japanese Hibachi style cooking. We ordered Miso soup, Spicy Salmon Crunchy Roll, Spicy Tuna Crunchy Roll, and a Japanese Shrimp Fried Rice. The restaurant serves a complimentary fried sushi appetizer with a delicious sauce. The meal was plenty for two people and we struggled to finish the fried rice, which was delicious! The shrimp were grilled and a standout! After the meal they served two complimentary slices of cheesecake with a sponge cake base and just enough cheesecake for a palette cleanser. The meal was less than $33.00. And the reason the exterior windows were covered is because they decorated the interior side with stone tiles and other handsome decor. So I say, give this place a try! Will we return? Yes Yes and yes!!!

the service was wonderful, very quick, friendly, and authentic. At first I was a little suspicious because of the shops location and exterior, I was scared wether or not the food was going to be good quality, but inside the store was absolutely gorgeous, and most importantly the food was so fantastic. melt in your mouth sushi, PHENOMINAL flavor, and a good price.

From left to right: Crazy salmon, Wayne's, and Black Dragon. Not pictured is the Rt #26 roll. Wayne's and Rt #26 were the best

So so good. Just tried this location for the first time and it immediately became my new favorite sushi spot. My boyfriend and I took the recommendation of the server who suggested to order the Waynes, Rt #26, and the black dragon. We also ordered the crazy salmon roll. Each roll was so good but the Waynes and Rt #26 were the best. Will definitely be back

Food is fine, but the portion sizes are disappointing. See below for a photo of the steak hibachi special, it came with exactly 6 bites of steak.

The chef even made us a baked salmon dish on the house, which was delish! However, it seemed like the rice my sushi was made with was part of an older batch or undercooked? It was kind of hard. My husband's rice had a better texture, more what you expect with sushi. But I could tell the fish was very fresh and so were the rest of the ingredients besides my rice. I think it was not the norm & definitely would give them another chance!

I have been to many sushi restaurants that are high end and more affordable, but Oya is the best of both worlds. The quality and creativity in each dish is far out of the league of what you pay. The restaurant is on the smaller end, but the lighting, decor, and cleanliness is absolutely stellar! What I love is that the interior compliments the fresh and clean taste of the fish. Attention to detail in how everything is presented and plated shows the amount of care that the chef has for their customers. Additionally, they do not hold back on the things that matter. I chose to eat various dishes of fish, which require a lot of ginger to cleanse my palette after each fish, and Oya did not hold back. Where many other sushi restaurants lack, Oya dominates at. Service was absolutely amazing as well. The chefs were extremely respectful greeting you and the server was ready for whatever need you may have. More than supporting big chains that profit off of you by overstuffing you with a lot of rice and cheap fishy fish, I would HIGHLY recommend supporting a small business. Oya Sushi is one of the handful of restaurants that I wish I could exceed five stars. Everything about this place exceeded all expectations and I could not recommend this place more than any other sushi restaurant I have been to. It is a different type of love when you want to go around to all your friends, family, and co-workers to one day take them to a restaurant. Oya is a MUST eat when in Maryland.

When we arrived, we were greeted by the sweet smell of hibachi grilling and the screeching sound of a kajillion kids. If my friend Laura was here, we would probably be awaiting her trial on 12 separate charges of manslaughter. We were informed that it was a group outing for a series of little league baseball teams. When we were told, along with all of the other people waiting that a table was being cleaned off, I figured that we were going to be ok. I was wrong. Now granted, it is already 8:30 when we are being seated. So we sit down and wait...and wait...At about 9, someone comes over to take our drink order. At 9:15, we left, never having received our soda and tea. Luckily for us, as we were walking out of the restaurant, the manager said, "Thank you, have a good night." Now, I know they were busy and maybe they weren't expecting so many kids, but 45 minutes and no drinks, unacceptable. We left and went to the Bob Evans in the same complex. Sure it wasn't hibachi, but at least we were done eating by 10. I wonder if the people at our old table had even had their orders taken by then!

I had the pick 2 lunch special, but decided to splurge on the Wayne's roll. It does have green onions, and they seared the fresh tuna on the top, which both actions were not listed in the description. I picked off the onions and was eating the sushi anyways. It takes a lot for me to return an item, because I don't believe in waste. I also used to be a waiter, so I know that it's hard when your tip is affected by the food. What did upset me was that all of the rolls were done with too little, and too wet, of rice. Every single roll opened up. The small Philly rolls I could hold together. The Wayne's roll completely fell apart, losing masago everywhere and making a mess of the soy sauce and the table. When the original cashier did come to check on me, I only had 2 pieces left of the Wayne's. If she had come over sooner, I may have returned it. She did apologize and ask if I wanted them to be redone. I said no, thank you (because you never know once they're upset), and instead asked for 2 dollars off of the total for the 14.95$ roll being less valuable than the 12.95$ lunch special. The other waiter dropped off the check without a word and walked away to wait for my card, without a discount . She ended up being the manager. She never apologized for the less than ideal experience, didn't mention that she knew about it until I asked her, and only said, "You chose to eat it anyways." She refused a 2 dollar discount. 2 dollars... for good customer service. I tipped the other cashier. I hope that she gets the 20% and the manager gets none of it. I'll never go back.

I was saddened to learn they changed owners some years ago, and I was afraid the quality would be affected in a negative way. It was a great relief to learn the quality actually got better, which I didn't think was possible. The fish is consistently incredibly fresh, the textures are clean and delicate, and every roll is balanced in a way that really highlights the natural flavor of the ingredients. I also greatly appreciated that they didn't change the menu much, because I would have been sad about my favorites getting removed. True, the Japanese feeling and atmosphere the geishas brought under the previous administration was more welcoming. However, I would rather have better quality food over atmosphere. That said, the restaurant still has a cozy, warm, and welcoming atmosphere that makes it very comfortable to dine in. I love that it is not a huge location. I prefer smaller restaurants to avoid crowds and eat without disturbing my peace. More personal attention too, as you get to know the owner and chefs and they remember you when you're back. The service and attention is better that way. This place is like that. They are also very accommodating with customizations, whether you want to add or remove ingredients, and they are always willing to adjust orders to your preference. Service is still excellent. It's perfect as it is. The flavors are consistently excellent, with a level of care and precision that you can taste in every bite. I would really like it if they added at least one deluxe roll that has lime or lemon as an ingredient. I've only found one sushi restaurant in MD that uses it as an ingredient. In other states I've visited, they use it and it is totally worth it, as it is a great contrast that elevates the raw fish flavors. It's a bit disappointing sushi in MD is different that way. But this place is amazing. I fully recommend it to sushi lovers.

I say this as someone who is typically a cooked sushi eater, that salmon was so good! We also ordered the soft shell crab bun and the duck bun. The soft shell crab was lightly fried and crispy, but the duck was very dried out. The restaurant is beautifully decorated which helps add to the ambiance. There is patio seating as well.
