Staff is super friendly and attentive. Restaurant was super clean. The sushi very quickly came to our table after ordering! The chef even made us a baked salmon dish on the house, which was delish! However, it seemed like the rice my sushi was made with was part of an older batch or undercooked? It was kind of hard. My husband's rice had a better texture, more what you expect with sushi. Might be the BEST sushi restaurant I have ever been to. As a California Native who works in Manhattan and occasionally visits Maryland, Oya Sushi might be the greatest hidden gem I have ever been to. I have been to many sushi restaurants that are high end and more affordable, but Oya is the best of both worlds. The quality and creativity in each dish is far out of the league of what you pay. The restaurant is on the smaller end, but the lighting, decor, and cleanliness is absolutely stellar! What I love is that the interior compliments the fresh and clean taste of the fish. Attention to detail in how everything is presented and plated shows the amount of care that the chef has for their customers. Additionally, they do not hold back on the things that matter. I chose to eat various dishes of fish, which require a lot of ginger to cleanse my palette after each fish, and Oya did not hold back. Where many other sushi restaurants lack, Oya dominates at. Service was absolutely amazing as well. The chefs were extremely respectful greeting you and the server was ready for whatever need you may have. More than supporting big chains that profit off of you by overstuffing you with a lot of rice and cheap fishy fish, I would HIGHLY recommend supporting a small business. Oya Sushi is one of the handful of restaurants that I wish I could exceed five stars. Everything about this place exceeded all expectations and I could not recommend this place more than any other sushi restaurant I have been to. We had an AMAZING TIME at Oya sushi. Located in a mall plaza in Woodstock, Oya sushi is a cozy Japanese sushi spot. From the outside, you can't tell how nice it will be on the inside. Restaurant is REALLY clean, modern and beautifully decorated. They are on the smaller side, so I recommend calling to check if they have availability before going in. We ordered a "Sushi and Sashimi combo special" and got an INSANE amount of sushi/nigiri/rolls for $80. They gave us a small appetizer side dish to start, and then gave us two 서비스 dishes (complementary side dish)!! We got a yummy baked salmon and two salmon sushi rolled with cucumber and crab meat. The owners were so so sweet! We also came with a 6month old baby and everyone was SO NICE! She enjoyed her time there too and didn't even cry once :) If you are looking for a TON of sushi for a reasonable price, Oya Sushi is the spot for you! I heard their lunch specials are great too. Right when I walked in, I noticed how friendly the host/waitress was. The people are very friendly and the environment is quiet and peaceful. Everything is clean and spotless. When the food came out, the display was very nice and it comes with a complimentary Miso Soup. The Tonkatsu was perfectly crispy and delicious. Sushi was rolled to perfection and was filling. It is not too small and just the right portion. The appetizer reminds me of what my Korean parents make me and it has fish roe on top of salmon. The Salmon melted in my mouth and SO GOOD! If you ever go to Oya Sushi, you need to try their nigiri! I've had both the nigiri and the sushi rolls, and I personally enjoyed the nigiri more. I believe they serve some of the best nigiri in the area. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect, and I love how the raw fish is twice the size of the rice--when you take a bite, there's still enough raw fish left for another bite! WOW! We are veteran sushi eaters, and we have enjoyed Sushi King and Umi Sushi in Howard County, but Oya Sushi is on its own level. The salmon belly, unagi, negitoro and ikura are almost religious experiences. The fish portions are generous and there is just enough rice--the perfect balance. I urge every serious sushi foodie to give this place a try--it's in an out-of-the way shopping mall on the edge of Ellicott City, not the most natural location for fine dining, so it will need the support of loyal fans. read more

Tried this place based on the great reviews. I can't give it 5 stars only because I have had much much better sushi. That is not to say that this is bad sushi. They do some things that are a little different than other sushi restaurants. The spicy tuna (salmon, yellow tail, etc) rolls are make with some vinegar. Not bad, just different. The sushi, to me, didn't taste as fresh as some other places. Again, not that it was spoiled or bad, just didn't seem as fresh. The restaurant is very clean and the staff were very attentive. I will also say that the prices ARE very reasonable compared to other places these days. Overall, this is a very good sushi spot. The best? I can't give it that title. The best sushi restaurant in Howard county. The sushi was so fresh. Their salmon is a must. We also got the karage and the udon. Extremely high quality, well made and well balanced.
