We've been wanting to come back here for several weeks after the Yelp event opened our eyes to what a fantastic spot this was. We've been talking about it again and again, but just never seem to find the time. This past week, while both my wife and I were off work for vacation, we took advantage and went for a lunch date, and it was just as tasty as we had remember it to be! We arrived at around 12:30 on a Thursday, and were seated promptly. As a starter we got the Tempura Veggie plate, which didn't take long, and was delicious. We both got our own lunch special ($11.95), I got it with the LA Roll, basically a deep fried California roll with some cream cheese in it as well. I got mine with the "Cooked sushi set", which came with (1) shrimp, (1) crab, (1) tamago, (1) tofu, and (1) avocado. It also came with soup AND salad. Talk about a deal! This is probably the best lunch deal in the Triad! Everything was absolutely delicious, and the portions were amazingly generous. We left there beyond stuffed, but very happy with our meal and experience! Staff were very friendly, and checked on us throughout, bringing us refills before our drinks got empty. Service was quick, we were fed and on our way in no time. I'd absolutely recommend this spot to anyone coming to the Greensboro area, I don't have one bad thing to say. Sushi Republic was a decent experience overall, but I wasn't particularly impressed. The staff was very friendly, and the outdoor seating was a nice option. I had the shrimp udon soup, which was fine but lacked flavor. The green beans were similar, and my wife described her sushi roll as just "OK." Still, I'd give it 4 stars because the service was great, and it's possible I simply didn't order their standout dishes. I'd be willing to give it another try. read more

A great little place to grab some Sushi in Greensboro. Parking is street mostly, there is a lot behind and above, but you should be able to find a spot. There is indoors and patio seating, the service is warm and very attentive. Love the owner, Beth here, she is funny and so sweet. Came back and had a wonderful experience. Tried thier Red Ninja roll, my new favorite. Their fried tempura roll was unforgettable and I'll forever seek out and want black sesame mochi from now on. Came here for the first time for a yelp event and boy oh boy was i missing out! The staff were so knowledgeable and fun. We sat on the patio which was well lit and set up super cute for the event, complete with sake cups. The food was such an experience! Fresh, and so so packed with flavor! Amazing and fresh sushi in the Greensboro area! I have been here a few times before and I usually get their lunch bento boxes, but this time was for a quick, weeknight dinner with my husband. The restaurant was probably half full around 6pm so we were seated immediately. I ordered a house salad (ginger dressing) and gyoza for an appetizer. For my main dish, I ordered the sex in the city roll. The salad came out within 5 minutes of ordering with the gyoza closely following. The sex in the city roll was delicious, but I love anything with avocado. Service was quick. We were in and out in under an hour. The ambiance is very casual. Sushi Republic is right next to UNCG so expect to see a lot of college kids. The only downside was parking. There is a small free lot next to sushi republic (for those dining there), but every spot was taken so we had to use the paid lot. If you're searching for free parking, just make sure you read the signs because some places will tow if you're not there for that restaurant. read more

Every time I visit they never fail. The service is always great and the food is always comforting. Sushi republic is a small but very good sushi spot that I've visited many times. A nice place with romantic lighting and small spaces brings a warmth to the area. The Appetizers have such a variety. There is no star amongst them but they do a great job of showing what the restaurant has to offer. I typically get the chef's special. The Chef's decide what type of sushi you get and it is the best surprise. You can make requests if you want or don't want something in it. I haven't been let down by this option. Each time there's always something unique about the sushi they decide to create. They also have other options which are always a great choice. Most of the time, the staff is super friendly and attentive. Occasionally, you may get someone waiting on your who seems like they have had a long day. This is my family's favorite spot for sushi. They have lots of different rolls to fit just about anyone's taste: raw and cooked fish, deep fried rolls, etc. The service is always good, and we never have to wait a long time for food to come out. We have always sat outside on the patio, even when it's cold outside because there are heaters, and it's covered. Favorite appetizers are the Izumidai tacos(Red snapper, avocado and kimchi) and Age Dashi Tofu. And we don't even care much for tofu! they have good lunch specials, (last I checked) even with sushi. The menu goes well beyond sushi, they have soup and fried rice and noodle dishes. I've also had udon noodles and beef, which was very good. They also have cocktails, sake and Sapporo beer. This was our second time visiting them, so that means we loved our food here in the past. But this time I must say it was somewhat underwhelming. We got here on a Friday night and it was seemingly quiet, not a lot of people were dining here. We got seated outside and waited for the rest of our party. Once they arrived we got our waters and ordered food. We got the TNT sushi roll, soba chicken noodles and the veggie fried rice. I had asked for spicy hot food. In terms of taste, the noodles were the best handsdown! They had a nice flavor too them and were spicy as well. Apart from that, we did not like anything we got. The fried rice had too much soy sauce in it, and was almost bland. Even after adding a whole cup of sriracha it did not get any better. The sushi was also sub par, maybe we should have gotten the fancy sushi rolls, but I would imagine they should do all their dishes well. The kitchen did mess up our orders as well. They brought out our sushi on the plate of someone else in our party, so we were left moving around food and passing it along which was an unnecessary hassle. At the end, they also got the check wrong. They added someone else's food to my bill so we eneded up having to split a venmo payment later on, which again was unnecessary. Not sure if they just had a bad day, or what but now I am not keen on a return visit. I do like their location and outdoor seating, and the free parking up the back is always nice so close to downtown. Maybe I will try them again, maybe not. We shall find! read more

Sushi Republic is my favorite sushi spot in Greensboro. The sushi is always fresh, service is great, and the prices are affordable. The menu has something for everyone! There are also many drink options from beer to sake to cocktails. Parking can be a bit tight and sometimes frustrating as the entrance is pretty narrow and also serves as the exit, so if a car is coming down the little hill you're unable to pull in and vice versa. When UNCG classes are not in session, it's less aggravating and busy. The max I've waited before on a Friday or Saturday night is 25 minutes, and it's worth waiting for! Jack is an amazing waiter! He is so kind and funny. I believe I've only had him when dining at SR, but I'm sure the other staff members are just as great! If you've had sushi in a major city on either coast or even Japan, do not bother coming here. If you have limited experience with sushi, then the service is good and they have convenient parking. The problem is just the food. Inexplicably the vegetables tend to be frozen corn and peas in everything. The rolls are the typical Americanized concoction you dump a lot of sauce all over. My dish last night was suposed to be a seafood Ramen bowl, but it looked nothing like what you'd get in Japan. It looked like they quickly dumped seasoning in a bowl of hot water, added some ramen, two small shrimps, and frozen peas and carrots. Truly awful. read more

Was in the mood for some Asian food and found this place on Yelp. This place had a really nice outdoor seating area, but I did not stay as I got my food to go. I got the crab wontons, the pork gyoza, and the beef bulgogi tacos. The crab wontons were pretty good, though a little dry. I might try the mango wontons next time for a little different flavor. The pork gyoza were great, and I really enjoyed them. They offer them steamed or fried, and I chose to get them steamed - very happy with my choice. The beef bulgogi tacos were delicious. They definitely had some heat to them, but the avocado in them helped cool them off and it really hit the spot. I would highly recommend these for anyone who likes bulgogi. Featuring five pieces of fresh sashimi and a maki roll of your choice, there is something for everyone from beginner to aficionado. I went with the "Red Ninja roll" which assassinated my taste buds with the deliciously deadly combo of tempura shrimp, avocado, spicy tuna, and cucumber with a tobiko, crunchy tempura, and eel sauce topper. Stopped by here for a quick bites. We were greeted and seated right away, and ordered. The drinks, appetizers and sushi platter was served promptly. We had the Chefs Choice Platter (basically some Sushi and Sashimi), you get 2 each (3 type of fish) and some sushi rolls. My sister and I split the platter expecting it was enough for us, especially for the price. Well it wasn't (the 6 sashimis slices wasn't big enough) the sushi rolls has some creamy sauce that tasted real good. There are some foods that just have a kind of texture that turns us off. What's really fascinating is that those same kind of foods can become one of our favorites. And on top of that, to some out there in the world, what we might feel is slimy, to them might taste divine! My first interaction with a food of this kind was when I was a young man and my college friends, Elise and Bobby, had a membership to the New Rochelle Country Club. This was not something our family could afford, so whenever they would invite me to come out and spend the day with them , I would grab the chance. This is New Rochelle back in the '70s. Beautiful, pristine, gorgeous homes and almost everyone at the country club was white and Jewish and rich! It was a world I had never seen before, other than the white and Jewish part. But how would I access the New Rochelle Country Club you might ask when I did not have a membership? Well, I would ride to the club with Elise and Bobby, and they would check in since they had a membership, and find a place with 3 lounge chairs for us to sit by the pool. I would wrap my gym bag around my neck, walk down to the ocean a few hundred feet from the club, and swim to the beach of the country club and then simply walk onto the property and join them at the pool. Clever, huh? That all worked great until one day I was swimming over to the club and suddenly I found myself tied up with some huge thing floating in the water. I suddenly realized it was a dead body and I absolutely freaked. The more I tried to untangle myself and swim away, the more it seemed my body and my bag got stuck in the body's pants or arm. Finally, I got myself loose and in a complete panic ran onto the property of the club screaming to Bobby and Elise, "Oh my God there's a dead body in the water. There's a dead body in the water. Oh my God I'm freaking. Help! Help!" Within moments everybody rushed to the ocean, and indeed, there was a man floating dead in the water. We found out later it was a suicide, and this incident not only cost this dear man his life, but it cost me the ability to sneak in to the New Rochelle Country Club I know you're asking, "What in the world does this have to do with slimy fish?" Well, the "in" thing to do at the New Rochelle Country Club was to have clams on the half shell raw. Absolutely turned my stomach and made me want to puke. Bobby and Elise loved it. I hated it! Although I never acquired a taste for raw clams or oysters, I have acquired a love of sushi. It's another one of those textures that I had to learn to acquire, but now that I have, I love it! I took my son, Erik, to Sushi Republic for his 38th birthday. Always fun to go down to Tate Street. Reminds me of my college days when I attended UNCG. Plenty of parking and I was really glad that we were able to sit outside with the Delta variant on the rampage. We found a spacious table right under a fan and their outdoor covering. It was very comfortable considering it was getting hot outside. Although we ordered an appetizer and a couple of extra things, I was amazed and impressed with their $9.99 lunch special. It was a lot of food for that price and really well presented and very delicious. Besides your sushi choice, it came with soup and salad. I found everything appealing, tasty and definitely worth the price. Our waiter was attentive and working hard like all waiters and waitresses do. There was plenty of air conditioned seating inside as well if that is your preference. Erik and I enjoyed our lunch together and I was happy to spend part of his birthday with him. Usually when I take my kids out for their birthday, I will tell the staff on the side what's going on and they will come out with some kind of dessert. A combination of I could not imagine what they could bring out at a sushi place, and knowing my son would kill me, I passed. Don't laugh at me, but I don't quite remember what we ate as scrumptious as it was, but I have some nice photos that you can look at and figure it out for yourself LOL But, what I do know is Sushi Republic definitely delivers if you are looking for a tasty, well portioned meal; especially at lunch time with their $9.99 special. Dude, if you have not been here for lunch, you are missing out. They offer a full lunch menu and some great sushi lunch specials for only $9.99. Basically, you have 5 sushi roll options to choose from and you also get a sushi set of 5 pc (cooked or raw). This lunch special also comes with miso soup and salad- it's a deal! The miso was good, salad a bit weak. The salad was basically iceberg lettuce with a little dressing and ingredients. The hubby and I love sashimi, so we both selected the + 5pc raw sushi set which included tuna, salmon, red snapper, shrimp (technically cooked), and escolar. When our food came, we were both shocked with the big pieces of raw fish on each of the nigiri pieces. The sushi was very fresh and delicious. As far as our rolls, I picked the Rainbow Roll (California roll topped with assorted fish and shrimp) and hubby got the I Love Tuna Roll (spicy tuna, asparagus topped with seared tuna, masago, ponzu sauce, spicy mayo). Both were rolled nicely and tasted great. If you like spicy, the I Love Tuna roll had a nice kick. We also ordered some steamed vegetable gyoza (dumplings) as an appetizer. The order included 6 items for east splitting. The filling was tasty, but the dumping fell apart a bit when put in the sauce. If sushi is not your things, I highly recommend their bento boxes. They are also around $10, and you get a lot of food. You pick your protein, and it comes with miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, spring rolls, white rice, and vegetables (zucchini, mushrooms, and onions). I've had the red snapper box which included around 3 smaller pieces of cooked red snapper in teriyaki sauce, which was a perfect lunch size with all of the other items. There is seating inside as well as a big patio. It is split as half covered with a clear enclosure and then half open with tables with umbrellas. read more

This is nice and cozy spot near Greensboro college area, and has good options for Sushi lovers. The wait time runs generally around 30-40 mins on weekend evenings. The outdoor seating has a rustic feel to it and makes for a good experience, weather gods permitting. We tried a few from their sushi menus - spicy king salmon, red ninja, crazy girl and snap dragon; and weren't disappointed as it tasted fresh and delightful. From the appetizers, we tried the pork gyoza (steamed dumplings), crab wontons and shrimp tempuras; again, fresh and delicious. The only disappointment was from the dinner menu when we ordered fried rice and asked for it to be spicy; turns out they just tossed the rice in Hot sauce which made it more sour than spicy and we literally left all of it. Sapporo on draft for $4 was a good deal, and other cocktails on the menu was flat $10: which honestly was on the expensive side. Overall, a good place to try out if you are a sushi lover! read more

One of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. I sat at the bar one random Thursday night and received excellent treatment. I had a plum wine which was sweet and yummy. One of the sushi chefs started talking to me, asking me what I liked. So he made a chef's special! Omg! It was SO GOOD!
