3.5 stars-I tried Sumo Hibachi today and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best I've had. It wasn't busy at all and I was able to order right away. I ordered the shrimp hibachi. The food was cooked fresh to order so everything was piping hot. With the shrimp hibachi, they give you a lot of food. It comes with miso soup or salad, fried rice or steamed rice, jumbo shrimp and veggies. There is seating inside with tables; however, I opted for to-go. The good for me was the food being hot and made to order. The fried rice was probably my favorite with the yum yum sauce. The jumbo shrimp were big. The service was also good and accommodating. The prices are great for the amount of food you get. The not so good for me was the soup. It lacked flavor in my opinion. The teriyaki sauce had a weird taste to it, which resulted in me not caring for the veggies. The shrimp were okay but I believe the teriyaki sauce gave them a weird taste as well. I wanted to really like this place based on the reviews but I wasn't crazy about it.

Pretty soon, i'll probably get Sum Mo Hibachi at Sumo Hibachi! This new hibachi take out place has taken the place of what used to be a chinese restaurant at the very end of the Food Lion shopping center on Groometown road. Everything has been cleaned up, and there are even some really well done murals on the walls! You can eat in here, but the primary purpose of this place is takeout. The menu is very simple hibachi fare that many would recognize anywhere. They also offer family meal deals which give you enough of a portion for three people (or a hearty portion for two). Things like hibachi steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, salmon, and lobster. They come with rice, vegetables, and a soup or... the always hilarious... Japanese style salad which is just iceberg lettuce and some thin carrots. I have never understood the point. Anyway, we got a family size steak and chicken hibachi. They asked how we'd like the steak prepared, and asked for medium. They hit that mark pretty well! The chicken was also juicy and tender, someone got the cook points just right on these proteins. The rice could in our opinion use more vegetables or seasoning, but that wasn't anything we couldn't fix on our own with a little sriracha. The vegetables were well cooked, and the miso soup had a nice flavor was stirred up a bit. The salad, again, hilarious. I liked the ginger dressing. The meal came with 3 white sauces, extra sauce is 50 cents extra. Overall, this place met my expectations, and exceeded them in the meat department, so five starts! We will be back.

A very helpful staff I think the restaurant is owner operated. They take a little more time to prepare your food, but it is worth it.

Best Hibachi I've ever had. Also every Hibachi order comes with a Soup or salad and fried or steamed rice so you get a really nice meal.

Toshi's is an absolute gem I've made the mistake of passing by far too many times!. My wife and I stopped in for breakfast recently on a Saturday morning, and really enjoyed it. She got a bagel sandwich and I got a sausage egg and cheese breakfast burrito. They packed the burrito full of egg, cheese, sausage and even tator tots along with a spicy mayo, it was delicious! The staff were very friendly. We placed our order at the counter, and they gave us a pager to notify us when the order was ready, which was just a few minutes. In addition to breakfast, they also serve a variety of fresh made sushi rolls, bowls, and sandwiches. They offer a variety of hot and cold coffee drinks, and smoothies as well. Their pricing is fantastic, and the quality is top notch as well. They offer indoor seating, but also have a small, but covered patio space in the front. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, and will be back to try another meal soon!

No. Seriously. 5 adults and 2 high chairs. I was hoping to slip in with a group and have fun. This seating is depressing. Oh let me not forget I waited 10 minutes at least to be seated. That wasn't so bad as I figured u had to wait on an odd numbered party to show up. I shoulda just waited into 4pm when the spot I really wanted to visit opened up. Our drinks & app service was decent. Never got our severs names but my Coke Zero was refilled without asking. Listening to the family at the table beside us chat and eat has been enjoyable while we sit here looking crazy. I've been here many times throughout the years. This has been the shortest wait to be seated. The longest wait to eat. And the most fumbled I've seen. Like who turns the table off? Loads of people in here. Plenty of people in the lobby waiting. But almost an hour between my arrival and the chef isn't even cooking? Nah. I'm good on Kabuto. Update! My medium ribeye was over cooked. I had medium. The people beside me ordered medium well. We are not together. This is why I don't order the filet because more often than not the steak gets overcooked. I typically order medium because I know the carry over will make it medium well. If you have a large group 6-10 then yes. Give this a whirl at least once. Solo dining night? Meh. Totally kid friendly too. I wanted to give this 4 stars but overcooked steak and the extra long wait took the fun out of it for me.

The rice will be fried, the meats will be cooked, and in the end, I will smother everything in enough of a mayonnaise-based white sauce that the finer variations from one hibachi place to the next don't really matter. What I do care about is the service and the entertainment. If someone is cooking in front of me, I expect them to be on their a-game. And, on my recent visit for dinner, our chef absolutely was. Though it was around 4:30 pm, so pretty early for dinner (and with smaller, quieter crowds), our chef pulled out all the tricks and was funny and engaging. Sometimes you get the sense that a chef hates his job and is just going through the motions, making you feel guilty for wanting to see an onion volcano -- that was not the case here. He was a total pro. Our waiter was also great, and struck the perfect balance between attentiveness and giving me space to enjoy my food and conversation. My drink stayed full and I never had to wait for something I needed, but I also didn't have to pause my conversation to speak to the waiter every 30 seconds, between mouthfuls of food. Like the chef, he was a total pro. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 only because my dessert bananas at the end were cold and not even caramelized, which was super disappointing. I think the chef was in a rush to get out of there, because our table took longer than the average for him to cook the food... a couple people we were seated with kept throwing food back on the grill (ew) and asking him to cook it longer. And I mean every single food they got, not just a steak. So, his timing might have been off in terms of getting to his next table, and ultimately it came at the price of cooking the final item correctly or really at all.

To top it off, the place has a great atmosphere. I can see this becoming a "spot" for sure. The miso soup, gyoza, and cheese rangoons are fantastic starters. The gyoza was pan-seared for that perfect crunch and made with plenty of filling. The crab Rangoons were crispy, golden, and packed with creamy flavor. The sushi? Solid. The tuna nigiri was fantastic and practically melted in my mouth. I'd say the shrimp nigiri was good too. Both had great rice with the perfect texture. Also the hibachi fried rice is excellent, though I preferred beef over chicken with it. The highlights of the night were the specialty rolls. The Snow White sushi roll is satisfying with a lot of flavor in one bite. The Tiger roll was also stacked and made beautifully. A final mention is the fried calamari, that was an amazing pair to everything! I'll be back, that's for sure.

After placing a call to Little Tokyo to confirm they too weren't filled to capacity, we headed there for our sushi fix, and it made me regret not having visited sooner. Little Tokyo boasts a pleasant, relaxing ambiance that made it a welcome refuge from the night's rather intense rain. The menu here is Japanese (sushi, sashimi, hibachi, etc.) albeit with some Korean and Chinese influences. The selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and quite a few of them sounded intriguing. Admittedly, the Italian (a California roll topped with white fish, tomato sauce, and cheese) was a bridge too far even for me. My wife and I came hungry and went with two apps (steamed dumplings and vegetable gyoza), four rolls, and two misos. The food was, across the board, quite good. Whereas some miso can blast you with salt, Little Tokyo's broth benefitted from an underlying richness. Our sushi was beautifully plated and tasted fresh. Of the rolls we tried, the Bulgoki (beef, crab, cucumber, and eel sauce) was my favorite. Prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food (rolls in the low-mid teens, most apps under $10), and severs are polite. The kitchen isn't lightning fast, but we didn't find the wait unreasonable. Based on ratings, I expected "good," and based on hunger levels and a desire to be out of the rain, I would have settled for "OK." Little Tokyo, however, ended up being surprisingly great.
