But if your looking for fresh reasonably priced real authentic Japanese sushi this place is the best. Your whole party has to be present to be seated and when they are busy service is a little slower like it is everywhere else but this place still has a line out the door most evenings so that should tell you something. I was pretty hyped up to find a Japanese restaurants that has agadeshi tofu and chawan mushi since I was visiting dallas. Food was great and elegant atmosphere but horrible service. I believe our waitress was Li. I'm a server and I never seen a server that doesn't smile nor have I seen a server that doesn't know their menu. After I ordered she brought our drinks. While she was pouring our drinks, I asked her the things I ordered, but she didn't know what we put in so far and she had to look back at her notes. Also when I asked her what's on sushi & sashimi, she just handed the list... My order included hamachi Kama but it never came out and it wasn't even charged.... She never checked on how our food was. At the end of our dinner, she was nowhere to be seen and we had to ask someone who doesn't speak English for our Check. What a joke. read more

Went to Sushi Sake on a weeknight for a family dinner. A couple of tables were open but they wouldn't seat us because a couple people weren't there yet. By the time everyone was there 10mins later the tables were gone and we had to wait another 45mins to be seated. That pretty much set the bar for the rest of the experience: Ssslllllooooooowwww. Taking orders, bringing drinks, bringing sushi, etc all took forever. They ended up billing us for an extra tuna roll and we ended up paying for it just so we didn't have to wait any longer for a new bill! The food itself was good, not great. Shishito peppers were unsalted/unseasoned. They put a pinch of table salt on the plate for you to add yourself. I don't mind the idea of having direct control over my sodium intake but to be given penny table salt when Japan is known for having literally hundreds of salt varieties seemed like a cop out. The salmon was the highlight of the meal. It was fresh, buttery, and of good quality. I had it as nigiri, sashimi, and an off menu roll I believe called a "poke" roll. The yellowtail and aji were fresh but in no way stood out as well as the salmon. Lastly, the unagi nigiri was good as well although the accompanied eel sauce dominated the flavor. Ultimately it's probably give this place 4 stars for food but the service was awful. Maybe you'll have better luck sitting at the sushi bar. read more

Their uneducated servers and staff does it again. The food is better than the most japanese restaurant in town, so I have been visiting during lunch time. However, their servers are rude and uneducated to serve the customers at their best. I brought a birthday cake for a friend and we decided to meet at Sushi Saka. I asked the server if she would keep the cake in the refrigerator. You won't believe what she said.. she said, that would be an extra work for me and rolled her eyes. I think No I cannot would have been a better answer. If you want a good food with a shitti customer service, then this is a place for you. I went to this restaurant based on a lot of great feedback from people, and we left super disappointed. Here's what we ordered: Beef asparagus roll: the meat was extremely over cooked, it was tough. They gave you a few small pieces and drenched it in teriyaki sauce. Not worth it. Salmon, yellowtail, sea bass, and scallop nigiri: fish quality was great, but the rice wasn't great and they put way too much wasabi in between the fish and rice to the point where it burned my nose. I dreaded every bite. Chirashi bowl: again fish quality was good, but the amount of rice they give you compared to the fish, is way too much. Just came by yesterday. Very low price for a sushi restaurant with decent quality sushi definitely recommend for a budget sushi trip. They do get quite crowded even during weekdays and I thoroughly enjoyed their dobinmushi. They are very strict on outside drinks so make sure to stop by Kung Fu tea after and not before your meal. Service were at times a little slow so -1 star there. Overall very good though especially for the price. read more

We went to Sushi Sake today for the first time because a coworker had raves about it. The ambiance of the restaurant is very nice, but the service and the sushi was lacking today. Our server was difficult to catch, and when she would stop by our table, she'd run off while we were in the middle of asking a question or making a request. Then, once the rolls arrived, I feel like they weren't rolled tight enough because as soon as you tried to pick them up, they just disintegrated into pieces. The tempura and spider rolls were delicious, even in clumps, though. The california and the spicy tuna, though, were super bland. I couldn't figure out if it was that the rice wasn't seasoned properly or if other places just Season the seafood before wrapping it, but even soy sauce didn't help. I will definitely give it another try, though. Everyone has an off day, and they were super busy at lunch today, so we'll see how the next trip goes. read more

I would say the overall decoration of this restaurant is very nice, but for the service and quality of food..? Meh! We ordered beef tongue, ankimo (monk fish liver) which were their special items, both of them were very disappointing. The beef tongue were sliced very thinly, they tasted soo rubbery. The ankimo were also very small.. they did not taste that good, totally far below my expectation. We also ordered lots of nigiri, including scallop, flounder, red snapper, eel, saba, sake, uni, hamachi, tuna.. they just tasted ok. The tables are more like community tables, where you share the table with other parties. I also noticed that every table and everyone that sat at the sushi bar got served oranges as a complimentary dessert at the end of the meal EXCEPT our table. Our server seemed to not care at all, she rarely checked our table, and at the end she just cared about the bill. Seemed like she just wanted us to leave asap so that she could get more tips by having a quick table turnover. She was lucky because... had I paid for the bill.. It's a good thing my friend told me to arrive before 5:30pm because I was the second car to park but within the 2-3 minutes that I was waiting in the car, 15 more cars showed up! I will note that they only seat you when your whole party has arrived. As we were inside in the seating area, waiting for opening time, most of the servers were lined up and dressed in traditional kimonos. The place is large, with a sushi bar that's longer than most I've seen, and Japanese style seating (benches and tables). We got miso soup and again, it's traditional so we weren't given spoons. We just drank from the bowls. The four of us each got the Chirasi Ju which is a variety of sashimi with rice. All the fish were fresh and delicious! The service was also amazing and quick. I don't think I ever saw my glass less than half full before someone was there to fill it up. Same with plates. At max, an empty plate sat at our table for maybe a minute. This is an authentic Japanese experience with a hard-working staff. I will definitely be back again! read more

5 stars all the way! I had passed by this place several times. It is tucked behind a shopping center all by itself, but that is part of the charm. It looks like a cute little house. If...I mean when you go for dinner, make sure you go when they open around 5:00 or 5:30pm at the latest because the wait will be long. The traditional Japanese decor set the tone for what we were about to experience. We were warmly greeted, and seated at one of the communal tables, where they can seat others with you. There are also individual tables, as well as seating at the Sushi Bar. The bar was very impressive, as it has several chefs behind the counter doing their thing. They have a board with special plates that are available, and I highly recommend checking it out. We tried a couple of rolls, including one with crawfish that was amazing! We eat sushi a lot, and this is by far one of the best restaurants in Dallas. It is a great experience, and well worth checking out. read more

I will not lie. I had a fantastic experience at Sushi Sake tonight... at first. The food was excellent, and our server was attentive. However, the management is incredibly strict and their customer service spoiled an otherwise delicious meal for me. In my past visits, I remember getting a fresh orange at the end. However, when I asked if I could have one tonight, the manager adamantly refused to serve me the orange I had come to expect from past visits. According to him, only people sitting at the bar receive an orange at the end; people seated at the tables do not. I didn't understand as the price to sit at a table or at the bar is the same. I felt the customer service could have been handled a lot better but frankly this "restaurant policy" ruined my night despite the great food. read more

I called on a Friday night (3/15/19 to be exact) at 10 pm making a togo order. That's at least 30 min before they close. First off, i had to call literally 20 times for someone to finally pick up. They would've had longer to prepare the food if they picked up earlier. I make an order and the lady, Brenda, said "we close at 10:15" i said "don't you close at 10:30" she stutters "uhhh.......uhhhhh yes". So yeah lie to me. Then i tell her the order and she asks for my credit card info over the phone. I told her i will be there in 5 min and still is pushy about me paying over the phone, so i did. Then she asks for my security code. I work at a restaurant as well and i've never needed the security code, so that's very suspicious. Truly upset right now with sushi sake. Avoid this place if you have children because they will not accommodate. We intended to come here for a nice Father's Day dinner but was told that we could not have a stroller in the restaurant. That would be fine but we have a sleeping toddler in a light weight stroller that prob only take up one seat space. We are not going to wake her up just so we can have dinner. This is a ridiculous! This the first time in my life we have ever been asked to put our stroller back in the car at a restaurant, no less with a child in there! So of course we left and went else where. I understand if this is some fancy 5 star restaurant but it's not. And yes yelp indicated that this place is not kid friendly. Hands down: the best, affordable sushi restaurant in Dallas! The fish served here is perfect and the prices are comparable to lesser sushi restaurants in the area. This place is so good, my wife and I drive out from Keller on special occasions every chance we get. We always get an assortment of sashimi here, and it never disappoints. Many sushi restaurants in Dallas serve fish that is too cold! I understand the logistics of getting fresh fish into Dallas is difficult, so whatever Sushi Sake is doing, they need to protect their secret because it sets them apart. As mentioned above, the prices are surprisingly comparable to other restaurants in the area, so my wife and I always come close to spending our expected budget with a full belly. Hmmmm. The uni was very good, the salad tasted fresh and the dressing was refreshing, not overpowering. This seemed like a great place to satiate my long overdue craving for decent teriyaki. Very fresh sashimi here. I got the sashimi plate ($17), which had salmon, tuna, yellowtail, squid, and something else. All together it had about 10 pieces or something. I also ordered the beef teriyaki ($15). It was very tender and a good size. It comes with a bit of udon noodles. The starter salad was good and larger than normal but ask the to go easy on the sauce. Mine was a little drowned out. The interior is well done. It's a nice mix of modern and ancient Japanese. It was very well maintained. Our waiter (a tall and lanky gentleman) was very friendly and professional. It's a stand alone building behind the bowling alley and right before the houses start so the location was a little unique. Me and my fiancé Keli came here for dinner and were completely surprised by how beautiful and organized everything was inside. This location is very busy but we must've picked the perfect time and we're seated in five minutes within another two minutes we had hot steamy towels for our hands. Everyone is dressed in appropriate attire for service authentic to Japanese cuisine. 8 sushi chefs working at the bar was very impressive , their creations were beautiful. We had the sushi sampler spider roll Louisiana roll two house salads all of which were phenomenal. The fresh sushi they have is some of the best around the fish was so fresh it literally melted in my mouth. The service was spectacular in keeping my belly full and my glass full as well as being fun. So happy we found this hidden gem in our neighborhood what a great place to eat. read more

This place is in probably the most secluded spot you can find in Richardson. Despite their location, it always seems to be packed when I go. Sushi sake is probably my favorite sushi spot so far in Dallas and it's easy to see why a lot of people like it. Really like the decor in this place. Everything down to the waiters/waitresses outfits gives it an authentic Japanese feeling; and even the way you eat your miso soup (save yourself the embarrassment and don't ask for a spoon like I did lol) We started with beef tongue which was really tasty and tender. After that we got the sushi and sashimi combination along with additional rolls and uni. The sushi and sashimi combination is really meant for one person but we found we could share with two and supplement with some side items. The sushi here is always very fresh and clean. There's none of that super fishy taste that some places have. Even the salmon roe sushi (which I dislike in general) was not overly fishy. One recommendation that I do have is to try the volcano roll topped with scallop. It's probably the best volcano roll I've ever eaten. As with all good sushi places, the price is a little bit higher than average but definitely worth it in my opinion. The service and the food is always on point. read more

Tip: Get there early. I arrived at 5:34pm on a Thursday, and about 70% of the seats were already filled. By the time I left around 6:30pm, there was a line waiting to be seated. There are many tables of 6, and if your party is less than that, you may end up sharing tables with another party. After my party of 4 got seated, we were handed hot wet towels to clean our hands, which was very pleasant. We were quickly attended to by the waiter. We ordered Sushi B, tempura zaru udon, tonkatsu, and tofu in broth (i think it's the niku tofu). My friends liked their tofu, udon, and tempura. I got the Sushi B and my boyfriend got the tonkatsu. I preface my review of the sushi by saying that I am a sushi enthusiast, enjoying sushi from all-you-can-eat sushi places like Austin's Sushi Junai to fine dining places, like Uchiko. I say this because I have experience eating all kinds of sushi and enjoying it at their given price point. The fish on my nigiri were quite thickly cut, with a smudge of wasabi underneath. The fish tasted fresh and the seaweed was very fragrant. I loved almost all of what was offered, especially the surf clam. The tamago was sweet and moist and without rice. My main gripe about my assortment of sushi was the tuna makimono. I don't mind a bit of wasabi for a hint of added flavor, but there was enough wasabi in the makimono to give my nose an unpleasant and strong burn. Plus, the amount of wasabi in a piece was too much for the the small piece of sushi, thus overwhelming and ruining the roll for me. My boyfriend enjoyed this tart and slightly sour salad. The tonkatsu was nothing special, and this tastes exactly like a tonkatsu I'd get at a much better price. It was crispy, but the meat was dry and not very flavorful. Overall, the service was good. I said yes cuz my mom decided to bring my neice and they said that I can't make a reservation anymore. Called and told my mom and univited my neice so we were able to reserve a spot. Sushi Sake has been one of my family's favorite sushi spots in Dallas, and we have been coming back for more than 9 years. The food here is amazing! The heartbreaking reason why I have to now give this establishment two stars is the horribly rude service that I have had the past two times I have come here from the wait staff. The first of these two times, my family and I was ordering rolls, and the waitress taking my order cut me off and said, "Why so much?" The second time my family and I came, our order was taking over 30 minutes to come out, so we decided to ask our waitress what is the status of our order. She then snapped at my family and me, saying, "Yeah, it takes that long." This was extremely disappointing as our past experiences at Sushi Sake were always wonderful. My favorite dishes I always always get... 1-hotategai butteryaki: scallops with mushrooms and asparagus. 2-Beef tataki- seared beef with ponzu sauce 3- green mussel- mussel mixed with japanese mayo and green onions topped with smelt roe!
