Been a few years. Went back recently. Great sushi - melts in your mouth fresh. Top quality. Why four stars? As a dining experience it is wanting. A night out is more than just great food. Sushi sake does not take reservations and is super popular, and very small. So be prepared to wait - in your car. The seats in the restaurant when you do get a table do not have backs, and most tables are shared with other customers. I literally was bumping elbows with the couple seated next to me. And it is loud- like you can't hear each other talk loud. The food is great - best sushi I've had in the metroplex, but it with so many other fine dining options in the metroplex, it will probably be years till I am back. read more

I'll first admit I'm ashamed I've been back in Dallas for over a year and just now got to Sushi Sake in their new location. Back in the 90's through 2002, Sushi Sake was a weekly staple of me and my friends. My cold sake box proudly displayed and often used sat on a shelf on the wall behind the bar (the one with all the shamrocks on it ;) ). I started every meal with a cold sake, sea salt and the tasty salad of the day. Advance 9 yrs and a new location, from what Sodasan said was around 5 yrs ago. The only things that I note have changed are a larger restaurant (that wouldn't be hard considering how small the strip mall joint behind the KFC was) and that Sodasan drinks white wine instead of Budweiser in his clay cup, oh and he's not so much salt and pepper now but straight grey hair ;). The service was a titch slow but it always could be like that when they start to get busy. Pleasant and helpful to a T. Atmosphere - I love the new restaurant. He kept the benches and tatami feel to the place which I loved before. Has a slightly higher end air to it but the prices don't seem horrendous and he still gets what has to be the freshest fish in Dallas. The food - mmmmmmm, I've been burned out on sushi for awhile now since my wife and kids will go to Kyoto in Rockwall ad infinitum nauseum. It's ok, don't get me wrong, but it's not Sushi Sake good... IMO not even close. I could be spoiled by my many fond memories or even influenced but I don't think so. Sodasan and co., put out the most delicious, expertly prepared Sushi in the metroplex. My kids were voracious, even moreso than normal. I could go back next weekend, I love this place. So, when we're going to go for a bigger family night out, its worth the drive for me (30-40 mins) to go here. One of my favorite Japanese restaurant in DFW. Definitely recommend their nigiri because the seafood here is so fresh. My favorite has to be the toro, super fatty tuna. It literally melt in your mouth. If you want more bang for you buck, I'd recommend the chirasu Ju bowl. That way, you get to try a little bit of everything, including salmon, squid, shrimp, octopus and more fishes. I also love their scallop roll and it's fairly inexpensive. The focus here is more on sushi, so don't be surprise when the cooked food menu is short. With that being said, we ordered the tonkatsu and it delicious. The bread in was thin and crunchy, and the pork was tasty. The restaurant has an authentic Japanese feeling and very cozy. This is definitely one of the best restaurants in Richardson. I had the best bday dinner with my favorite Japanese friend and her husband. Their uni was straight from Japan priced around $12 and we all were impressed with its quality. Fresh, delightfully sweet, and great color. Decent sushi in right price range. Chirashi was classic example of "Savory" dish and I was pleased with this experience st Sushi Sake. We went on Monday night (July 13) and it was about 15 minutes of wait. TOTALLY WORTH IT. Try different small dishes to accompany with beers. I don't usually order fried dishes but since they fry in Japanese way, we ordered white fish and mixed tempura. They were all lightly battered and crunchy. Authentic Japanese sushi where the food SHOULD be the most important thing. Don't come here for rolls as they are more focused on serving ACTUAL Japanese cuisine in a casual but obviously Japanese inspired environment. We grew up in Alaska, so it's been hard to find seafood as fresh as home. My mom is especially hard to please, so thank goodness for Sushi Sake! After reading most of the reviews and noticing all the 1 stars were from people concerned more about service than the actual food, I knew we couldn't go wrong. I don't even know why people complained so much about service, we were taken care of just fine and I noticed all the servers were busy taking care of tables, theirs or not- people need to quit feeling so entitled. This is by far the freshest sushi in DFW and I love the fact it isn't another korean owned sushi resteraunt or flashy sushi joint that has to mask their food in sauces and fancy decor. The food here is so good, you won't even miss the wasabi and soy sauce- I sure didn't! The fish literally melts in your mouth and my mom described the tuna as having a slight sweetness to it. I love that nothing was fishy smelling, so you know it's super fresh. It's also nice going to a sushi resteraunt that doesn't give huge portions of mediocre food doused in sauce. This was truly the most authentic experience I have ever had and am so grateful I got to try it! worth the 40+mins drive ANY DAY! Don't come here if you're looking for quantity over quality don't come here if you're looking for americanized sushi, i.e. don't come looking for a million rolls deep fried or covered in spicy mayo don't come here less than an hour before closing and expect to be treated like a king- as a previous server I can tell you this is highly annoying when the kitchen and other staff have to close down AFTER you leave and end up leaving hours after closing to begin with so the longer you stay, the longer they have to. I very much enjoyed my experience here! I'll admit, I am extremely new to sushi, so I played it safe with a California roll and Tempura roll. Both were great. The restaurant itself and service were both pleasing. The place was clean, classy-looking, nicely decorated and comfortable. The employees were also well-dressed and kind. They were very attentive to my friend and I, and refilled my beverage at a perfect time. The chef also handed me my sushi rolls directly across the counter at the bar :) Even when we first got there, the place was packed (always a good sign), however, we were seated quickly and didn't wait long at all. Really wanted to love because the atmosphere is nice. My sushi rolls fell short though. Rice was dry and rolls were too chewy for my liking. I hate to write bad reviews but this one is a must so that others can be aware. Yes, quality of the sushi is great and I'm a repeat customer. However, if you're needing to make a large party reservation then PLEASE BE WARNED!!!! I had dinner on 7/8/23 and made a reservation for a large party to celebrate my birthday for 7/15/23. The front person said that since my party exceeded 12 people then they will need for me to provide them of the order ahead of time and that someone will contact me in advance to take the order. I had asked all of my friends to review the menu and provide me what they wanted to order ahead of time since the restaurant was strict and that was their requirement. Friday night on 7/14/23 at 8:46pm, I received a call from the restaurant and they said that my reservation was CANCELLED for Saturday 6pm!!!! I never received a call or message from them during the week to take the pre-order. I reviewed the call log and no missed calls from them. I even typed up the list of all the orders received from my friends and was ready when they called. I asked to speak with the manager and she said that it was not enough time for them to make the food for next day party reservation at 6pm so my reservation made from a week ago was cancelled - she didn't want to hear from me so she hung up. Yes, their food is good but how they treat repeat customers is UNEXCEPTABLE. DO NOT MAKE LARGE PARTY RESERVATIONS W/ SUSHI SAKE. The atmosphere of this place is surprisingly authentic (ish) for random spot in dallas! We went here after going to altitude, the trampoline gym across the street and so were sweaty and gross and felt a little under dressed given it was a bit more classy of a place than we expected! We were given hot towels to cleanse ourself which was nice and the waiters are dressed in kimonos which is not often that I see, especially in Texas! I liked the atmosphere and how there were tables in the back to sit on the floor for a more authentic Japanese dining experience. We ordered the sushi and sashimi combo which came with a bunch of fresh and nicely cut fish. Th ratio to the rice was good which is the most important part and even the California roll tasted fresh and yummy. I was surprised because I don't even like California rolls. I definitely think the quality was better here than at most places, especially since we're so land locked in Texas. It's not the most bang for your buck, but the quality made it worth it. So been coming here for years. They run a pretty tight ship with their hours. Don't dare appear after 1:30 when they close at 2. You'll get a lecture from the manager looking lady. This review is not about that. We made sure we arrived early enough to bypass the potential lecture for lunch. Had a, as usual, nice lunch. We asked for the oranges as usual which usually yields a full orange cut in half with the orange itself cut and arranged in an attractive manner. Today we were given what appeared to be remnants of an orange. These remnants are like what fell on the floor or was discarded as excess. We asked the server why we were served these small pieces and the response was that this is the new way the orange was being served. Okay. If business is that bad then add .25 to each dish or just charge for the orange. Maybe they should just put 1 grain of rice around the roll if their finances are that bad. It's just plain insulting. I've been craving sushi so I decided to look for some in the DFW area. I didn't have much expectations because I knew that it probably wouldn't meet up to my standards. A Japanese friend recommended this place so we decided to give it a try and I have to admit.. IM IN LOVE!! SUSHI: Sushi quality was on point. Also, they sold Toro (which is the fatty belly of Tuna that not all sushi restaurants carry) SERVICE: I was very impressed with the service. Not once did we have to ask for a refill on our green tea or for them to take our dishes. Workers are very polite and well-mannered. PRICE: prices are a bit on the high side. There are some fish that are "market price" such as the Toro and Uni. At the time we went.. Toro came out to be $22 per order (1 order is 2 pieces) and Uni came out to be $18 per order. We used to love this place. What is up with having to wait OUTSIDE for your table? They have a nice waiting area inside but no one is allowed to be there. Now you have to wait in your car and they will call you when your table is ready. Unbelievable. The hostess told me they started this process during COVID and the owner liked it so they kept it in place. To me, it is so uninviting. The food is good but I would rather support a restaurant that is excited to have their guests arrive and invites them into their "home". I definitely don't feel wanted at Sushi Saki. read more

Not to say that the sushi wasn't good, it was more that the salad was also as good as the sushi. It was a fresh base with a great dressing to start the meal. The hot Saki also prepared my taste buds for a great night of flavors. The taste of my hand roll can be seen as simple, but even simple food can taste great and complex. The avocado salad was also surprisingly filling with another great taste to it. Not only did I feel like I had a treat at every corner of trying the food, but sitting at the sushi bar made the experience that more special. Make sure you write your name down as soon as you arrive. We had the usual negiri and sashimi. Tried a few specials on the chalk board. Had the Dynamite for the first time and it was atrocious. Zero flavor. Tasted like they ran the scallops through hot water and topped it with mayo and masago. So disgusting. The sushi here is good. Overall the sushi was just sub par, I wasn't impressed with quality of the fish. I think I ordered wrong and should have gone with chefs choice on the selection of fish. I would definitely come back, the atmosphere of the place was very lovely, but I would come back and do the chefs fish choice instead of ordering off the menu. I Just tried to make a reservation for Saturday night for 7 people to bring my parents, 14 year old twins and 17 year old who have been coming here for years along with my husband and the hostess (older woman) turned us away!!! This isn't the first time I have brought my children to this establishment and I am completely floored by how I was treated. Again, we have all been here before without issue. We thought this is an above average sushi place, but when we consider the price and service, this is under average place. I really hate to leave an unfavorable review, but if it wasn't for the manager I would have left it alone. My wife and I come here once a month to get Omakase only, but this time the quality is not consistent. We usually think it's above average and we live near by. Yesterday we decided to go here for my wife's birthday. Of course we get the policies of "No reservation", Omakase at the bar is better, but bad management brought our ratings for this resturaunt down. Lo and behold when you hype it up and bring your friends along to your wife's birthday, it all goes to hell, literally the worst experience we had. Our server was nice and really wanted to help but she did not communicate how it would be different at the bar vs a table. She even told us she started a month ago, so I can't be too harsh on her. She went back and forth about the Omakase with the chef and manager. They keep coming back with higher prices and if they could do it for the table instead of bar. Of course It was understandable that the experience at the table would be different, but the experience was not what we expected. We paid $300, (excluding drinks) for 4 people at $75 dollars each. I thought they could at least make 4 creative dishes like they usually do and bring it out one by one. For example, some nigiri, rolls, salads, hand rolls, fois gras etc. They decided to go Oma"Lazy" on us and gave us a bland ass sushi dish of only nigiri and some sashimi. All $300 worth of sushi on 1 dish with no garnish, no type of sauce, creativity or anything. It's like a sushi boat at a Korean owned Hibachi sushi. Our waiter even told the chef it was for a special occasion. I naturally don't complain but I never felt so ripped off in my life when I was promised something. We usually pay $50.00 a person and we leave pretty happy and full. End of the day they said they could do it cause there was no seat at the bar and we waited 40 minutes for our table on my "WIFE'S BIRTHDAY". The manager insisted lecture us what a Omakase is before we got to tell him why we were unhappy. I fired back stating that this isn't the experience and food we ordered. *I pull my phone out and showed him the variety that usually comes out in a Omakase, such as salads, garnishes/sauces on each Nigiri, Omelet, handrolls and other items that weren't on this sushi dish. We literally received nothing but Sashimi, Nigiri and it was so repetitive with 8 pcs of the same crap. He was rude and told us how much this cost on each fish and how good it is. Then lecture us that Omakase is chef's choice and what they decide is what we get. I said no, Omakase is the up to the chef in his creative ways to make our dining memorable. He argues and just walks away. Not offering us to fix it or some incentive to make up the BS they left on the table. I demand to pay and leave, money was never the issue. This was my wife's birthday and we wanted it done right. I WILL NEVER RETURN IN THIS RESTAURANT UNTIL THE MANAGER IS FIRED AND THE STAFF TO GET DECENT TRAINING. We spent over $450.00 last night with the 4 bottles of sake we ordered along the "Omakase" just to leave mad and hungry. I felt so bad I end up paying for the entire tab cause I felt bad for my friends splitting $115 dollar tab. We ended up ordering food from the Comedy club the next hour. I will take all my business to Uchi even if I have to go through the uptown crowd. At least they take reservations when there are special occasions. My family and I were harassed by this woman who claimed to be the owner of Sushi Sake. From the moment we were seated she told us my phone & wallet could not be on the table. She then told me that because they share tables at Sushi Sake my family of three could not all sit on the same side of the table, which has three seats. I told her I was not comfortable having a stranger sit next to my 7yr old daughter but she insisted. After asking her about the "rules" she kicked my family out and threatened to call the police if we did not leave immediately.
