My favorite dish on the menu is the Spicy Yaki Udon, followed by the Shrimp Ome Rice. My favorite rolls are the S&T and Orchard Lake. I recently had the Eel entree and although it was good the portion for $19 was a little lite. The main reason for the 3 star review is every time I'm dining inn I have to wait 10-20 min for the bill to be dropped off and picked back up . It drives me nuts! read more

Horrible name, but solid Sushi/Korean/Japanese/Fusion. My parents introduced me to this restaurant shortly after it opened, and it has become my go-to sit-down sushi restaurant. I was initially skeptical, as I grew up in the area and had known this place as a Burger King. However, I was quickly won over by the staff and the quality of food. They always start you out with an amuse bouche size cucumber and crab salad with some sort of rice wine or vinegar. I nice way to start a meal. For sushi, I am particularly a fan of the Orchard Lake Roll (Tuna, salmon, white tuna, crab meat, fish egg, scallions with spicy sauce inside) and the Yellow Tail Special (4 Thin slices of Yellowtail, Jalapeno pepper and spicy sauce, with Ponzu sauce). However, this restaurant also serves up some great non-sushi dishes as well. I am a particularly a fan of the calamari steak (a squid filet in a teriyaki type sauce), the samurai pancake (Shrimp, Chicken, Calamari, Onion, Carrot, Mushroom, Scallion, bonito, mayo, spicy and okonomiyaki sauce) and the udon. I still feel Noble Fish is better for sushi, but prefer this place overall because of the larger menu. Also, if you become a regular, they quick to offer "service", free food. Also, they tend to give you free samples of there latest culinary experiments. Not all of them have been hits, but it is always fun to try new things. Simply amazing sushi, have no clue why there are so many bad reviews on this place, some of the freshest sushi in the area, I've been coming here for years. The staff is always friendly, never rude. I'd hate for this place to close because of Yelpers being harsh. The crowd has died down over the last couple years and lines up with the not so positive reviews, it's a shame, people are even complaining about green onions on the tuna like that has the biggest impact on flavor, I don't even know anymore. They recently expanded to the vacant place next door which I'm happy about. I'd personally recommend it. I'd even put this place up with Ajishin as in terms of freshness and quality of the food, two different styles of food of course. I love this place just because it's so close to me and you can tell it's a local favourite because of how busy they are. It took a while to get my order in (the phone rang forever and then was placed on hold for a while) so they should really look into an online ordering system. There's a wide selection of different Sushi with everyone's typical go to's as well as their own unique creations. They did not have spicy edamame, which is always my favorite and I'm always disappointed when it's not available but their regular edamame was good, perfectly salted and the portion was large. We ordered a spider roll, shrimp tempura roll, California roll, snow cone roll (not pictured), spicy tuna and a dragon roll. Shrimp tempura was much better than I expected with the perfect crisp to it so definitely recommend it! We didn't end up ordering dessert but they have mochi that they make in house so definitely have to try it next time! read more

I tried Sushi Samurai for the 1st time 2 days ago with my friends (we wanted to try Mene but I saw the Yelp reviews re: insects found in their rolls...no thanks). This restaurant was SO good that I could not stop craving sushi the next day and had to come back for more! The service was cordial but not super friendly, which is fine. I get that this isn't a hole-in-the-wall mom n pop place so no biggie. The sushi is DELICIOUS. My friends ordered S & T roll w/ lemon on top, which looked kinda boring to me but was actually the bombbb. I got the Samurai Vegetable roll wrapped in rice paper, and it was so flavorful yet healthy that I had to order it again the day after. I tried a cucumber and eel handroll (not a fan of fatty eel, I think) and a fried calamari handroll- omgomgomg get this. The Yum Yum roll and the Salmon tsutsumi roll were also quite yummy. But after my wife and I both getting food poisoning for a second time and we both ate the same exact thing I know for sure it was this establishment. I would also like to say A couple of the servers that have been there for a long time I've gotten so rude and even though they know us they are so unaccommodating. The sushi rolls are not the best you will ever have they are just average. They charge you top dollar and they barely fill them with anything. For instance a chicken teriyaki roll will just have chicken in it and nothing else. It will run my wife and I easily 70 dollars for just a couple orders of sushi and a ginger salad and one appetizer. The customer service was wonderful. They were very friendly and efficient. They let my child watch them make sushi and answered all his cute questions. They also brought him a cute, brightly colored, water cup. They also provided us with forks, which was very helpful. We ordered the miso soup, chicken fried rice and a platter of sushi called their Roll Special and consisted of 1 California roll, 1 vegetable roll, and 1 spicy tuna roll ($9.95). I loved the presentation of the chicken fried rice. Most places basically just add scrambles eggs but this restaurant made a thin omelette and used it as a wrap for the fried rice and the covered that with sauce. It was so delicious! The chicken was tender and seasoned and the rice wasn't overcooked. The sauce went well with the dish and the egg was cooked perfectly. The miso soup was served piping hot (which is important for miso soup as it tastes pretty bad when lukewarm). It tasted like standard miso soup. It was the only soup they offered with the entree and I wish they would allow for just one more choice. Now onto the sushi....the spicy tuna roll was mild with almost no spice. It seemed to only consist of salmon, rice, and the seaweed wrapper. It was pretty bland. There was no complexity to the flavor of the roll. It was disappointing. I experienced the same issues with the vegetable roll. This one was also double the diameter of a normal slice and therefore one couldn't fit the entire piece in their mouth in one bite. So I had to cut it up and eat pieces of it. This ruined the experience and most likely the flavor that the chef was aiming to convey. I was also disappointed in the California roll. They used imitation crab meat and I believe just mayo. It was the best of the three but still not great sushi. read more

My hubby and I would drive by this place and would always mention how we needed to eat here so finally one night we pulled in. The restaurant is very cozy so I was glad to see that there was a table open for two. The sushi roll menu is pretty long so it took us a while to figure out which rolls we were going to get. They give you a little cucumber salad for free which I thought was cute! We ordered a roll that had fried calamari in it which I've never seen in a roll before, it was really tender! The thing that threw us both off is that the rolls were half the size as other sushi places so instead of 12 pieces for a bigger roll you only get 6 which the price reflects but then again that means you can order more rolls! Another thing that was weird, in a good way, was that all the customers in the restaurant were laughing and smiling! So maybe there's some secret mojo flying around in this restaurant?! When I showed up for my carry out order, she was extremely impertinent. I went here with my sister and her ex-boyfriend who didn't like sushi. They had some pretty good sushi here. Soft shell crab roll is the money. The food here was pretty fresh. I wasn't a fan of the atmosphere here though. The decor is really dated. Sushi is usually a food that's enjoyed with conversation so atmosphere is very important at these places. I'm a huge fan of this restaurant. It's always busy, which is obviously a sign of good food. However, there's rarely a long wait. They turn the tables over pretty quickly, so it's relatively easy to get in... Even on a Saturday night. Their sushi is prepared quickly and I've liked everything I've ever ordered from here. I normally order 2 tuna hand rolls without rice, and 2 salmon hand rolls without rice (they give hefty portions of fish), the tako su (octopus salad), and sometimes Mandu soup (fish broth with dumplings, crab, seaweed, and some other things). I've tried a lot of their rolls, all of which are delicious! Their sushi chefs are fantastic! The service is very good-- for the most part. There is one waitress who is extremely loud and it drives me crazy when she's shouting across the place. Another thing that irks me is this woman (who I would assume to be the owner) is sometimes there (usually dressed in extremely casual clothes-- I've seen her in what looks to be pajamas) and she's usually chit chatting with the staff... Here's the part that bothers me... She has never once gone around to tables asking how their food is or how the service is. I've never seen her so much as carry a glass of water to a table or get a refill for a customer. I'm not saying she doesn't do this, but I've never seen it... Not even at the busiest times.
