Always love the sushi here. You can get a great date night dinner for under $30 (without drinks). The first time came here my boyfriend and I sat at the sushi bar. We got our rolls but it took a little longer than we had expected, about 15 mins and the restaurant wasn't nearly full. The two times I've gotten take out from here, the service has been meh to say the least. I was told on the phone it would be about twenty minutes, both times, and I always arrive about 5 mins before they say it should be ready and I always end up waiting an extra ten minutes. Slightly annoying but the sushi is the best in town so it's hard to complain. I will definitely be back here, because it's good, but not when I'm in a rush. read more

This is my favorite local restaurant. I am almost a weekly customer and would probably visit even more often if they took reservations. LOVE IT. This is a great place for lunch or dinner and the waitresses are fabulous. Prices are more affordable than other local sushi restaurants, but the popularity and small dining area means a longer wait to get in the evenings and on the weekend. The Sunshine Roll, lemon salmon pairs and the Klamath Roll are my fav's and don't forget to follow up your meal with some mochi! People looking to bring a group to the restaurant should be wary, I think five or six patrons per table is the limit per party. Enjoy. read more

So I'm not a sushi snob and haven't been eating it/going to places for 10 years but I know good sushi when I taste it. Sushi is fresh and inventive. Service, while sometimes can be slow when busy, is attentive and always pleasant. I've had Tomo several times and it doesn't compare for me. Tomo has several "identical" rolls such as a take on Spot's "Trinidad Roll" and it just isn't as good. No they don't take reservations and on weekends you can wait for up to 2hrs sometimes. Which is frustrating, especially if a large group. Lesson-go early! -1 star for this. Bottom line-I compare all other mid-level sushi joints I go to to Sushi Spot. read more

When I finally got the rolls home I opened them up to find at $4 a piece their avocado rolls in fact contain BARELY ANY AVOCADO. Great rolls! The moonstone beach is very delicious-it made us stop and say, "Wow this is so good!" After spending $70 on Valentine's day lunch, I would say it's a bit over priced for the appetizers and small rolls, as they were good but not to die for, like the special rolls. There's never a moment where I'm not thinking about it and I've been coming here for years. I can't go to arcata or pass though without stopping here! Growing up in Arcata Tomo's was the only sushi place that was convenient for a night out. Sushi spot has had consistently amazing food as well as the service. Klamath roll is my girlfriends favorite and we dabble in the nightly specials quite a bit. No reservations, so on the popular nights there can be a wait. They are located right by the plaza making it easy to meander around to the late night shops and they give you a call when they are ready to seat you (usually 15-30). read more

One of my fav spots for Sushi in Humboldt, it is first come first serve so it can be rough to get a table, so I suggest you come early! You can usually get a seat at the bar sooner than you can a table by almost 30-45 mins instead of a table. Service is usually really good. If you have a favorite kind of fish, get the nigiri of it first to see how fresh it is, I usually do this with the Tuna. I love their roles, always full of flavor and levels of taste! I suggest the dragon roll. Good for singles, couples or groups. read more

Visited 11/7/2020. Food was decent, however the person taking orders said that teriyaki salmon with vegetables isn't a thing anymore? So instead we ordered teriyaki salmon with rice and a side of broccoli. When we got home, we noticed that we were charged $3 for a side of broccoli that consisted of four small single florets. I would give zero stars if I could. It really begins and ends with the management and ridiculously rude customer support. Making customers wait outside in the cold before being allowed in. And I mean looking at you and not even acknowledging you. They claim they want your temp to be checked before being allowed in.... Ok that seems reasonable, but then they take the temp on your wrist which reads 90 degrees cause you've been waiting in the cold and they feel that is fine and let you right in..... huh? Finally sit down and realize the few patrons in the restaurant are all wearing full coats, because they leave both entrance doors open to keep air circulation going... while it's 49 degrees right outside... absolutely ridiculous! I get the need to be extra cautious during these times, but these guys are being plain stupid about it. I even showed my vaccination card upon finally being let in, but they claim they don't need that.... So keep patrons in the cold, take the temp of their freezing wrists, keep the doors wide open so o es that choose to actually stay are forced to wear coats inside.... Absolute morons! No wonder so few people inside and two nearby sushi places were packed. I know because I left their after they were rude to me after asking to have the doors closed and we simply went to their nearby competition, which I suggest all should do. read more

The sushi was good if a little small on the portion size, I asked my server about it, she asked the chef who then told her to tell me that's the portion size due to the price of the fish...should have sent it back but I didn't (my bad) then discovered they charged me for Iced Tea refills (your bad)...who does that? As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by a familiar face. Although it was relatively busy, we were seated within minutes. To my delight, they had $3 pints on tap and my sushi rolls were brought to me in a jiffy. One of their sushi rolls, the crunch salmon, brought my mouth merely to nirvana. Just a heads up, I do not eat sushi, so this review is in no way based on the quality, or taste of their food. I am a doordash delivery driver. The reason I am giving them a not so great rating is I believe that their system for picking up could be greatly improved on. Arcata/eureka does not have that many restaurants directly participating with doordash, so us drivers are always going to the same few restaurants. There is ALWAYS a wait at sushi spot, unlike any other. Tonight I waited 13 minutes behind a gentleman placing an order who was taking his sweet time. I noticed a bag that was sitting on the table where they usually place finished door dash orders. I wanted to poke my head in, or just shout a name real quick, as I figured that was my bag sitting there getting cold. Of course, being my best person, and trying to respect covid guidelines, I kept my distance and did not burst that bubble. After waiting the 13 minutes, I gave my order name, and like I thought, their order was just sitting there waiting the whole time. They should really sit and think on ways to improve this system. Maybe have two windows, possibly using the door as a secondary point of entrance. Perhaps have two people working the door during busy hours. One designated to take orders, the other simply calling out finished orders, or taking names and just passing out competed orders. There has to be a more efficient, time effective way to be doing it. Also, many of the other restaurants that only have outdoor pickup have been very thoughtful and compassionate, and erected pop up structures and canopys so patrons don't have to wait 20 plus minutes standing in the pouring rain. Just some food for thought. I know these are difficult times, and everyone is adapting to unforeseen circumstances, but there can always be room for constructive criticism, and room for growth. Watered down my diet coke TWICE!!! The sushi rice was warm so the entire roll sort of fell apart when i picked it up with the chopsticks. Ordered three rolls and edamame, the edamame was definitely from a bag and I know the taste because I buy bagged edamame all the time! Undersalted and not rock salt! Took very long to get to our table but at least it's was open when Tomo wasn't. read more

This was the worst service I've ever gotten I literally made an account just to leave a bad review for this place. Not only did I wait 45 minutes to not get my dinner, everything else was crap. They apologized 10 minutes before closing , and said they would take off one of the appetizers. I was with my wife and two kids, they put us at the smallest table possible. I had to request for a bigger table and it still took them some thinking to even let me do it. We come into town once every few months, and got overcharged for appetizers and two drinks. Not only did I not get my dinner there, all the other sushi places were closing at the same time. Extremely disappointed with our recent visit, and most likely won't be back. My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch around 3pm on December 30th, and although we were seated at a table pretty quickly, we were NEVER acknowledged, had our order taken, or even given water after that. We waited for 20 minutes, and not one person spoke to us, or even looked at us. Take these most recent reviews about the place going downhill into very strong consideration when picking this place for sushi. And just for you I'm going to add another one... Recently took my wonderful girlfriend here for the first time ever, and it was a terrible experience. First, our waitress was flat out rude. Giving huffs and puffs, you could clearly tell she did not want to be at work. I intermittently would catch her crying while she was walking around? I understand... Maybe she was having a tough day, we all do. But for the love of God go home, don't let that reflect on how you deal with your PAYING customers. Getting a refill on water was a mission in and of itself. I ordered three rolls total two for myself and my girlfriend ordered one. Well first two rolls came out, wondering where my third was. It took an HOUR to get my third. And I placed this order all at the same time. Zero acknowledgement from our server. Another server came over because she could clearly tell I was aggravated. She was extremely helpful in helping me get the situation sorted out. She must have told the manager because my roll finally came out and the asshat had the audacity to come over and make some stupid comment in regard to how it tasted for me having to wait so long. Unprofessional. Finally I asked to have the roll taken off my bill because I clearly was not paying for it, and it was. It was the least they could have done. I shouldn't even have had to ask. And a big Thanks to the server who took time away from her other tables to help us. I gave her the full tip and not my original server. The two stars is going to go to the food. It can be really really good I guess if you time it right. Some of the speciality rolls are delicious. Second experience just last week.... Took my girlfriend back in there hoping for a better experience so I wouldn't have to totally write this place off. Went it stood at the counter with no acknowledgement. Asked for a table, got my name on the list. My girlfriend pointed at the bar so we told the hostess that's where we were headed. Went sat at the bar that was practically empty aside from a few other couples. Bar had what looked like a lake of water on it with an empty glass just sitting there. I'm not kidding when I say we sat there for five minutes without someone behind the bar saying a word to us. Pick up your friken heads. Then someone finally said I'll be right with you and proceeded to walk away and not come back for another 5. And I get it table orders order from the bar, but they weren't mixing drinks or anything. At least wipe down the bar in front of me so I can put down my menu. Give me a damn place setting. TERRIBLE SERVICE. So I've written this place off. Super disappointed and really disgusted!! Went to dinner here for the third time since we have had 2 pretty pleasant experience here. The third time we sat at the bar and we were able to see some sweaty guy with a wife beater (no chef jacket) scratch his sweaty armpits and instead of washing his hands he continued to work with the ema ebi we had just ordered. I wish I could leave two separate reviews -- one for the service, and one for the food -- but I can't, so my overall rating is two measly stars. I'll start with the food: Pretty good. No problem, I don't mind waiting. They'll ask for your name and number and give you an approximate wait time if prompted. These wait times are NEVER RIGHT. I have no idea where they're getting these numbers...just pulling them out of thin air? I've been told 15 minutes and waited 45, and 35 and gotten a call in 10. Once the hostess wrote our number down wrong, and when she couldn't get ahold of us she gave our table to somebody else. When we came back, she BLAMED US for her mistake and offered us a seat at the sushi bar, which was far less preferable, and didn't even apologize. Every time I go here I end up annoyed before I even get to the table. Good thing they have good drinks. You know what would prevent all of this mess and hassle with poorly-trained hostesses? I have never been treated so rudely at a restaurant. Was told after spending over $50 that there was a waitlist and that I needed to vacate the table. The waitress who served us name was Bree, arguably one of the worst waitresses I have ever experienced. im really hard on restaurants, but this place RULES!! me and my GF eat here a few times a month. i ALWAYS get the klamath roll sometimes i get 2! and the mini teriyaki bowl. service is always good the ladies that serve there are always cool and really nice! always smiling and seem to be in a good mood. the price is decent and ive already said the food is AMAZING! the only thing that bums me out is the selection of soft drinks, no Dr. Pepper : ( or wild cherry pepsi: ( but thats just me being greedy lol! i dont care the food makes up for it! long live the SUSHI SPOT!! and the nice ladies that work there! read more
