In Humboldt county, Sushi Spot and Kyoto are IMO the better if not the best sushi places. Sushi spot is often times very busy. I like their selection of appetizers. Terrible service. To Go orders always take twice as long as they tell you on the phone. I often have the wrong food when I do get home with my to go order. I do not recommend ordering to go from Sushi Spot Arcata or Mckville. In house they do better but only after a very long wait most nights. read more

Great food, mediocre service. My husband and I ate here twice in 6 mos. the first time the service was probably the worst service I've ever experienced that it was somewhat comical. Basically, everything took a really long time and we were mostly ignored and had to track down people to help us. More recently, the service want as bad, but it wasn't great. It was slow and our waitress disappeared for long periods of time but fortunately the hostess came to our rescue and helped us out and got our waitresses attention for us. This is my favorite place for sushi in Humboldt. The special rolls are always unique and delicious, they have a ton of different sakes, and the service is great too. I've had the sushi rollers come up to me a few times to let me try something they just created or to ask if they could try something different with a roll I ordered, and it always ends up being great! Sushi is bomb, service is bomb and their selection is huge. I order either the Klamath roll, Trinidad roll, salmon rice or the shrimp salad. All of these are my favorites. I have tried their other rolls too and they are great. The only thing I dislike is the wait when you call in. Expect to wait 45 min to an hour. It's worth it though so just plan ahead. read more

With some of the special rolls at 12 pieces a roll at the avg. 12.99 a roll, you get a lot for what you're paying for. The daily special rolls deliver an extraordinary flavor to your pallet while keeping the traditions of authentic sushi in tact. This place had so many things I wanted to try and I didn't have a big enough stomach. One of my favorite places to fulfill my sushi addiction. Great place to come with friends, sit down in a nice place, and get treated with decent service. However, its pretty small. Not a place for a big group. Seating gets crazy for dinner rush, and you'll most likely need to call ahead. Best time to go is lunch. Food takes a while to get to the table, and they dont bring everything to you at once (probably because there's not enough table space). Their menu is filled with pictures of almost everything, and prices are good for a sushi place. Defiantly worth checking it out; but like I said, best at lunch. read more

The sushi here is really good, and the staff have always been friendly. It's also relatively inexpensive which is a big plus. The only thing is that if it's in the evening, you typically have to wait at least 15 minutes for a table and service might be a little slow. One of the best restaurants in Humboldt county. One thing I love is that they make the rolls fairly large, where as a lot of sushi places give you tiny rolls. Decent Food. Terrible Service and Absent Customer Service. Sushi Spot has decent food. It's been one of our family favorites. However, the service is fair to poor and I don't think the management cares whether or not their customers are satisfied. We placed an order last night and were told a time to pick it up. Having experienced their gross underestimates, we arrived about 15 minutes after that time. It still wasn't ready, we were charged for the wrong order, and the hostess was rude and acted like we had made a mistake when in fact she hadn't bothered to read the tags on the orders. Then, she couldn't reverse the charge to our credit card. When we finally got our order, she gave us cash back. LESS THAN WHAT WE WERE CHARGED. When I contacted the management they apologized for the inconvenience and said she was new. They made no offer to give me the missing money.
