This place was recommended by a few coworkers and our visit did not disappoint! We ordered the lunch special which is 2 rolls, Miso soup and Veggie egg rolls for 12! The sushi is a set list to order from for the special. We got the Spicy Alaskan and the Japanese bagel. Both were very fresh! Then we added the Birthday Roll and the Dynamite Roll. Both were fantastic but the dynamite roll outshone the others. The server was patient and accommodating and the decor was beautiful. I did t expect such a nice place inside based on its location. If you are in a hurry for expensive sushi and want to feel rushed to get in and out then this is your place. I was there with family last night and had a horrible experience with the owner or manager. We got a table for four and one of the people in my party was running a little bit late so we ordered drinks and appetizers. Then the manager came over and took one of the menus away which would've been for the fourth person. I explained to her that there was one more person coming, and the menu was for that person. She angrily took the menu away and walked off with an attitude. When I confronted her to explain to her that she was rude she started an argument with me and then continued to have a total meltdown arguing with me at the table to the point where I just wanted to leave. I told her in my past experiences that I felt very rushed and uncomfortable in there and it was not a pleasant experience dining there. She said "you could just leave then"& she didn't have time to listen and really did not care. I won't be back. I can't deal with an attitude at a restaurant. There's plenty of other sushi places that are better. It's very disappointed that it ruined my family dinner. They are about quantity of customers and not about quantity of service. This was okay. Nothing you'll really remember either way. Tried it for take out. Hostess was very friendly and double checked our order which we appreciated. Had a 10 min ride home. Pad Thai was stuck together like a brick. Could not separate noodles at all and had to cut into chunks. It was a little sweet for my liking. Ordered only cooked sushi rolls (my safe spot when trying any new sushi join for the first time until I believe they are amazing). No complaints on what we chose. Nit amazing either. Had high expectations for this place based on the reviews. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. Perhaps we ordered the wrong things haha. Will eventually give this place another try. Egg rolls were good but it's pretty hard to mess up egg rolls. Same goes for the miso soup. The tuna boats were yummy and the portion of fish was generous for the price. My husband ordered a pad Thai and asked for extra chicken and stated that he was ok paying extra. Either their portions of chicken are very small or they forgot to double the chicken but didn't forget to charge us. I ordered the salmon platter but the teriyaki sauce tasted like something out of a bottle, not authentic at all. The roll without rice was very good (forgot what it's called). When I originally lived in Pinellas Co, this was our go to Sushi place. When we moved over to Tampa, it always seemed when in the area it was Sunday and they were closed so I excited to see that they changed their hours to include Sundays. There are also A LOT of changes here since the last time I had been here. They added Hibachi, which is on the opposite side of the restaurant than the sushi/noodles and the only thing that was a downer with that is that it doesn't seem that you can order from both if you wanted. At least, a Hibachi menu was not offered and they specifically asked what side we wanted. Their menu is significantly bigger than it was before as well. Though, I was happy to see items that I used to order were still there, but this time I went with something new. Ben was in the mood for some noodles, which I knew he would want sushi too, so I ordered the Lobster Special because looking at the photos, it would be more than enough for us to share and it should be for $28.00. When it came out, I was like SERIOUSLY?!?! Great presentation in a boat and a lot of Lobster on the top. There were also several pieces (like 12 or 14) so there would have been zero way I would have made it through half of that by myself. That definitely helps with the higher price, knowing you can share and still be full. Ben order the steak noodles in the dry version vs soup but they still had a broth of sorts at the bottom of the bowl for him to stir so it was far from "dry". Only thing I would say it needed was more cilantro but then again, I love cilantro and how fresh it makes things taste. read more

On-line ordering is easy to use, and includes the ability to customize the sushi to your taste. Order was perfect and ready right on time for pickup. Tried 3 rolls - Fat Bastard, King and Screaming Orgasm. The King Roll is tuna, salmon, crab stick, cream cheese and cucumber topped with avocado, tuna and crawfish. It's sauced with eel sauce, wasabi sauce and spicy mayo. Then, garnished with red and black roe. The combination is creamy, sweet and spicy. A big mouthful, very tasty. The Fat Bastard is tuna, salmon, escolar, yellow tail and smelt roe and cucumber. The roll is topped with snow crab, tempura white fish and sauced with honda sauce, eel sauce and wasabi mayo. Then it's garnished with red, black, and green roe. Another unique combination, equally tasty The Screaming Orgasm is fried shrimp wrapped with salmon, then topped with spicy krab, special sauce, and roe. This one was the least favorite, the fried shrimp/salmon combo was OK, but not great. Plenty of other choices on the menu to try - this is a solid sushi joint. read more

I am a long-time customer since they started. I stopped 3 years ago because the price went way up, and the size of the sushi was a lot smaller. Recently, I tried to order again, and it was good--the size of the sushi got back to when I went there many years ago, even though the prize got doubled. At first it was nice, and then I noticed that the last two I ordered was unbelievably small and there was not much tuna in sexy man, mike roll, and lotto roll. Sushi is bomb. By far my favorite sushi spot (pun intended) in Largo. It's tucked away in a plaza off of East Bay, it's easy to miss. They have a hibachi and sushi side. I've only been to the sushi side which is nice and dark. Sets the mood for a date night. I've sat both at a table and at the sushi bar and the sushi chefs are supper friendly people. Their ginger salad is superior to all. It's peanut butter based and I could literally drink the dressing. That good. Our favorite sushi rolls are the Lana roll and the Fat Bastard. If you like eel sauce, or even if you don't, these rolls are the best. Fish is so fresh and the flavors all go well together. Service is great. There is sometimes a wait on weekends but we got lucky and got seated very quickly. We moved to St. Pete but will make the trip back when we get sushi cravings. read more

It is very filling so much that I was full before I enjoyed my sushi. The sushi that I can get nowadays can't be raw so I decided on a fried chicken with mayo roll. For an appetizer we had the pork pot stickers which were awesome, and for dinner we ordered the Fat Bastard sushi roll and the Screaming Orgasm sushi roll. They were out of this world. Both rolls, along with the pot stickers for a starter, were perfectly filling - it was ideal for 2 people to share. This is a very humble place located in a strip mall. Well, the Queen Bee wanted sushi, so I figured that we'd try this joint. Only one other couple in here; they got here after us and left before...talk about sushi express! So in short, the place was quiet. No one else showed up but a couple of take out orders were sitting at the end of the sushi bar. They have a nice variety of Asian beers available as well as saki; no booze during Lent. Oh, well...prices were reasonable too! Anyhow, since we don't do any meat during Lent either, that narrowed it down a bit. Started with veggie tempura. Nice little selection of veggies still firm but not too crispy; lovely tempura batter that sealed in flavor rather than giving us greasy veggies: broccoli, onion, peppers and sweet potato... Queen Bee had Fresh Roll (whitefish, tuna, salmon, carrot and avocado wrapped all together in rice paper). Also had unakyu roll makimono style (think cooked eel). I tried the former and liked the flavor and freshness. For $15, it BETTER be fresh. I passed on the other one as eel is her favorite. Both accompanied by the requisite pickled ginger and wasabi. I opted for soba noodle soup. Wow; quite flavorful to put it mildly. Nice strong flavor of ginger in the broth with a load of carrot, cabbage, seaweed, etc. Noodles were nicely cooked and not mushy at all. Nice and hot; accompanied by four huge tempura shrimp on the side. Rather than unceremoniously dumping them in the broth, I used the remaining ponzu sauce for those critters. Mmm!! Waitress was very charming and fully explained the different sushi and sashimi options available. Quite patient and efficient in the whole process. Service was really quick; of course no one else was there. Too bad; I liked the quiet but hope these folks have a slamming good business. The $43 price tag was a bit steep. However, since the Queen Bee had a lot of raw fish at her disposal, I guess it wouldn't exactly be super cheap. One or two discordant notes though. First is that the seats are quite low to the ground and quite uncomfortable. Also the music is a mishmash of dance and club music, which is odd for a Thai/Japanese place. The other room of the restaurant, which was desolate, has a stage set up for karaoke and/or musical entertainment. Certainly this joint is a nice occasional treat for which we would both return. read more

First time here. Great menu and service. Restaurant was surprisingly pretty as it was located in a strip mall. They have an expansive sushi bar but we opted for a table. There are group sized tables in the back and a beautiful water wall. We couldn't decide what to order and the server was very patient. I ordered the Luncheon Pad Thai which was just so-so. The soup was excellent though as was the seaweed salad. The other entree was the luncheon 9-piece sushi plate. It was a generous portion, pretty and wonderfully tasty. Both the lunches were served with soup and a tiny egg roll. I have to admit that when the food was served I forgot to take a picture. Three stars was because of the Pad Thai. The noodles were clumped together and I tasted no Thai seasoning. Even adding the table condiments didn't help. The shrimp were rubbery. This being said, I will go back and try something else. Sushi Spot is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in all of Tampa Bay for American style sushi rolls that are so large, you can only eat one. Even a grown-ass-man can only eat one of their signature rolls, so filling. Many customers come here for the teppanyaki grill, but I only come here for the sushi. If you tell them at the door, then you will be seated either in the hot grill area for teppan or the sushi bar. I always sit in the sushi dining area so I don't smell like smoke. Sushi spot is really a hidden gem if you want to drop some moolah and get some massive USA style saucy rolls. The chefs here are so badass that they can make these rolls stay in a roll shape even covered with sauces. I've tried almost all of their specialty rolls, and my favorite is the Treasure Roll--- fried shrimp and other fried stuff covered in just the right combination of other sauces and stuff that makes me happy. Other than the rolls, my favorite item here is actually their cold crab salad gunkanzushi. It is on the nigiri menu. The spicy conch salad is good too. Tastes just like the nigiri that you would get on the conveyor belt sushi restaurants in Japan. But, in Japan it's a dollar for 2 pieces, not six dollars like here. Any of their tuna dishes are recommended, like their Tuna Boat (poke lettuce wrap) and Tuna Tataki (standard but large portion). If I could afford it, I would eat here every week. The parking lot is insanely crowded every night from that silly sports bar... so weird. read more

The Beastly Roll was phenomenal. Great flavor and texture. The salad had the most delicious "ginger" dressing I've ever had. I wish I'd gotten the chef's name because he was incredible. The owner's brother, he made good conversation and told us about the restaurant and how they put value on the flavor of the food and not just the hibachi experience. He was so right! Even the basic salad was packed with flavor. They used an herb butter on the rice and the tofu that have it an extra dimension. Any time I can have great food and a great experience for a good price, I'm a happy camper. This place sure came through. Hands down my new sushi place in the area! read more

It's a winner for sushi, haven't done the hibachi here so I can't comment on that. We've been here a few times now and the place is always packed and busy but they accommodate every one really well. Our default seating is at the sushi bar so we can watch the rolls being made. Dinner and a show ha ha! My very favorite roll here is the fat bastard. -1 star because I feel they are just slightly overpriced, but they're 8 minutes from my front door, so that usually outweighs any price qualms for me. We got takeout from this place for Sunday night football and it was just okay to be honest. I got the pork ramen and the broth was mediocre at best. The pork was also underwhelming and looked like chicken. I'm still a little puzzled by that and I definitely would not order that again. The best part was the Unakyu roll which was covered in eel sauce and surprisingly very fresh. I do like that you can order online and pick up within 15 minutes. You can also customize everything on their website which is a huge plus. I was able to add avocado to my sushi roll for only $1.
