This place is such a hidden gem. Wanted to go for sushi and not a place that we could easily get with away with ordering specials etc. this was a pleasant surprise. Place was very clean, staff was very friendly, and dishes were packed with so much flavor. Ordered the King Kong roll, California roll, and spicy salmon. Very fresh ingredients. Also ordered the Taro Rangoons which was delicious! So different and light compared to overly deep fried rangoons. Also ordered some of their street food - oyster mushrooms were a win. I came here a few times with my family after my initial visit with my friends . We ordered items that I loved the first time and my family also really enjoyed these items. I also order a round of uni for the table and I can confirm, it was fresh. One item I will always recommend (to those who like shrimp), is the sweet shrimp. All I can say is WOW. This place is very unassuming from the outside but it one of the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. First and foremost the fish in the sashimi appetizer were extremely fresh. The service was great and efficient and my sever offered some great recommendations. Good news is that the food comes at you fast and furious as it's made. The menu focus is on classic Japanese small plates i.e. meat, veggie, and seafood skewers, small Ramen/noodle selection, stuff dusted with dashi. Very diverse menu you won't find in other area Japanese restaurants with emphasis on solid execution of the basics. Sushi is rolled with precision. I looked up what Izakaya meant and it came up with two meanings, an intimate bar with cheap snacks and also stay-drink-lace. So both make sense in my world They have alcohol, have sushi, and skewers or yakitori. For this visit I had a King Kong roll and Kurobuta honey sausage(this one I had bc it was on the happy hour menu. I did not like it. It was just like a cut up hot dog. This was our first visit and I'm glad that we had stopped by. It's located in the Publix strip center at McMullen Booth and Coachman. We decided to try dishes that you usually don't see here in Pinellas Co. For appetizers, we ordered the Spider Roll and two skewers or yakitori (Momo Chicken Thigh and BBQ Fresh Water Eel). The Spider Roll was fine. The skewers were tasty but only a few bites. For mains, we decided on the Japanese Cold Noodles and the Niku Udon (Udon soup). Both dishes were beautifully presented. The cold noodles were quite tasty with strips of salmon, imitation crab and cucumbers. I would order it again. The Niku Noodles were thick Udon noodles with shredded beef on top. There wasn't a lot of soup, though. The beef had a sort of pot roast taste which was nice. Our entrees were both ample portions. The staff was friendly and speedy. The restaurant has nice ambiance with an open kitchen concept. I do recommend this restaurant if you want to try some yakitori and various noodle dishes. read more

Visited during soft opening, so there are still some details for this restaurant to work through. Overall, love the izakaya vibe of the dining area and super friendly staff. I think this is a revamp of the existing Thai restaurant that was in the same space. Since it is noted as being a robatayaki restaurant, I tried to order almost all of their yakitori and skewer items. My main feedback is that they should use a charcoal grill instead of a heated coil grill, have warm tare dipping sauce, instead of cold. Baste and coat the skewers while cooking, not just at the end. Offer a separate "salted" option for items that do not include tare. The sushi was decent and also decently priced. Still need to try the Mentaiko fries, curry, and more! Unlike the izakaya in Tampa that is popular, this location has parking!!! read more

Absolutely blown away by this sushi bar. The inside is very cute and intimate, it is also very clean which is necessary for a sushi restaurant. The staff is incredible Bo, Pat and Jack are the most attentive and caring staff. We have come back a few times since our first and everytime is amazing. The prices are very reasonable and great for the quality. We got the golden boy and it is a MUST order. We were blown away the first time we had it. Mainly because we didnt expect all the flavors inside since we ordered off of Bo's recommendation.I havent been shocked by a dish in a long time but golden boy definitely delivered. We have ordered the king kong and red tuna as well and both were good but golden boy is definitely the best. The Taro crab rangoons were also incredible. Its a deconstructed version which I was surprised by at first but I honestly ended up preferring it this way and now I wish every restaurant had it like this. The crab mixture was delicious and refreshing since it was cold and the taro chips were thin and crispy and paired really well with it. The sauce was a sweet syrup different from the usual sweet chili and I liked it but I didnt really need it with how good the chips and krab were on their own. It's hard to find quality sushi- not overly Americanized, fried ect. This was so incredible- in house or takeout- I cannot recommend highly enough. So here we go with food reviews. First the Japanese Beef curry, the beef was tender, curry was now too spicy it had just enough kick of spice. The veggies we're cooked perfectly it was soft but not mushy. The sushi we ordered was flavorful and the sauce on top they mix themselves which is probably why it's light and not too mayoey(if that's a word) like other places. They were all very filling. The owners were very friendly and answered all of our questions. They offered to customize a roll if there was something we wanted in a roll that they didn't offer. I would recommend checking the place out if you live in the area or even if you driving by on McMullen booth rd on your way home.
