All right I gave this 5-6 tries before writing a review. I want to preface this and say I used to live by the Sushi Teri downtown, and that location is VASTLY better than this one. Sushi Teri is often quite busy, but I can only imagine that is due to the fact that it is one of the only sushi spots in Goleta. I've consistently received to-go orders that are wrong, or even if the are an attempt at the right roll, the ingredients don't match the description. The fish quality and freshness are both just barely fine, but it's almost a moot point because nearly every roll on the menu is some combination of the same two fish. I will say you do get better quality if you dine in, but the to-got quality and craftmanship of the rolls is simply abysmal. If this were cheap sushi I might bump it up a star or two, but dropping $80 for a small meal for two and getting this quality is simply unacceptable. read more

I was in the mood of some sushi for my most recent visit here to Goleta. I've been to a lot of the other Nikka locations and so it was inevitable that I tried the sushi here at the Sushi Teri restaurant. I ordered a spicy tuna roll with some edamame that was it. I called it in and it was ready shortly after. The roll was really good and I can't wait to come back to try some of what else they have here. There is plenty of parking here in this plaza. This is my daughter's recommendation for dinner when I visited her at college. She loves it so much that we went here two nights in a row for dinner. She loves the sushi here so her go to is the Orange Dragon roll and Spicy Salmon Handroll. On my day train trip to Goleta from the SFV, I was diligently covering the culinary bases. I started at one eatery for breakfast, then another food spot for appetizer, which was followed by my third base for lunch, at Sushi Teri. It is a small well appointed dining space that has a good vibe and welcoming serving staff. After reading a menu outside, I decided on the Samurai Sashimi special. It came with two pieces each of Tuna, Yellow Tail, Salmon and Albacore. Accompaniments were seaweed, cucumber, radish, ginger and wasabi. The presentation arrived swiftly and was well poised for picture taking. My stay here though, was a totally different matter. All four pieces of fish were not adequately sauced, half with, the other half without. Clearly, a lop sided job, to get the dish expressly to the table? Then, the sashimi pieces themselves were bad cuts, some of which were internally membranous. Never had this happen at other restaurants. The albacore portions had clearly visible outer membranes (see my picture). Finally, the ambiance. Both the behind the counter sushi chefs were conversing between themselves in a very loud manner, so much so, that you could hear them throughout the restaurant. I mentioned it to the server, who quickly stated that he could not do anything about it. Really? On top of that, they do have WiFi, that too was scanty, unreliable and dropping the signal repeatedly. Saw this restaurant is a chain restaurant around Santa Barbara area so wanted to give it a try besides are regular fanfare of good restaurants we visited regularly. It's not bad nor was it good, a bit disappointed. 1) wait staff seems to be new or not familiar with the menu item when I asked about the difference between scallop nigiri and Hototae Japanese scallop nigiri. 2) we ordered appetizers once we sat down, we had high hopes for their calamari legs ( gezo fried ) but the batter was too thick and I don't know what idiot would cut the calamari legs into small chunks which loose the whole point of eating calamari legs into small the beginning. The baby fried tako was average, again too heavy on batter and nothing special. 3) we ordered lunch special chirashi bowl which means assorted fish, for some reasons unknown we get paper thin sashimi and mayo imitation crab meat which we never have seen on a Chirashi bowl before, it tasted weird and the amount of rice is too much, even with some of the sushi rolls they are serving here have way too much rice, maybe that's their thing but the sad part is the rice has no aroma, not enough vinegar and rice to fish ratio is all wrong. It really tasted bland!! My son ordered tempura udon, another let down, very few pieces of tempura vegetables and 1 small piece of fried shrimp, it's vegetables, how much does it cost to throw a couple more pieces in to make it look good, when it came out, it looked liked the tempura has a few pieces missing and look super stingy with that, udon is average, even college students cooking at Marukame has better texture and consistency than whatever this is. I have to mention stop making rolls with cream cheese in them, it's a nasty mix, not a good combo, I didn't even see something simple like rainbow roll on the menu. No one came by to check on water refill or hot water refill, should have went to Nikka fish and grill or Nikka Ramen instead. Sorry but this is a 1 star place and won't be going again. read more

When you enter Sushi Teri you are greeted by a friendly staff and a clean yet generic decor. I ordered a tempura and teriyaki chicken combo with a California roll. It came with a huge cabbage salad (which consists of cabbage and thousand island dressing). The California roll was perfectly done, with a hint of sesame in the rice to eliminate any potential blandness. The teriyaki chicken was well made. Lightly sauced, not smothered. There was a variety of fresh tempura vegetables and giant ball of rice. LOTs of food. Their wasabi is fairly tame, but I'm not really complaining. Overall, a nice place at a good price. read more

Very average sushi restaurant considering it's Santa Barbara. I ordered the Red Dragon Roll, Salmon, Sweet Shrimp, Ikura (Salmon Roe), and Uni (Sea Urchin). The red dragon roll was cut disproportionally where some sizes were significantly larger than others. The description stated that it would have avocado inside and I was disappointed to note that it was simply a slice of avocado smeared over three pieces of the entire roll. The presentation was an absolute disaster. The salmon roe was not only fishy but also salty and wet as if it were left in the fridge for days. Additionally, I found a fish scale inside my ikura. It was not fresh by any means. The sea urchin was disappointing as the taste and aftertaste were both odd and not sweet. For $15 for two, I'd recommend hopping over to Sun Sushi for better quality sea urchin for the same price. The salmon nigiri deserves an honorable mention as the saving point of this meal. While this may be one of the better sushi places in Goleta, I'd highly recommend making the extra drive for Sun Sushi or Oku. While it may be a bit more pricey, the quality of their fish is definitely better. read more

We came from Solvang and most of the restaurants were closed because it's Easter Sunday today. So we found this 40 minute away restaurant from Solvang. The menu has Japanese, Korean, and Chinese food to choose from. We ordered: Galbi with rice and salad (me & my husband's favorite) Hibachi steak with rice and salad 3 kinds of sushi rolls. Price is worth it because the servings are really generous. There rolls were good too though. Restrooms were separated for men and women, but only 1 person can use per cubicle. No diaper change table for babies or young kids. Servers are mostly young, but very nice and friendly. They are respectful and get your orders correctly. Ambiance is clean. It's not that big but it's not small either. They have free parking lot space. It's big. We will come back if we are in the area again. read more

Uni nigiri 10/10 never had uni before and wow it was creamy and sweet. I'd get this again. Monkey roll 7/10 I'm not into spicy tuna, so I was already expecting not to enjoy this one. Although I think other people would love this if they enjoy eating spicy tuna. Hobe roll 9/10 everything in this roll was super compatible and I love how the jalapeño and avocado slices complimented the mixture. However, I think the roll might have had a little too much sauce on it. Still good tho. Crunchy roll (10/10) I love the crispy exterior and creamy interior. It's like an all in one roll meant for me. Went here for a lunch date, and had a great time for a great price. My partner and I both got chirashi bowls and a chicken karaage to share. The chirashi bowls were on lunch special and was a really great value, with fresh fish and generous portions. The chicken karaage was crispy and hot, also with good portions. The house sale and beer we ordered were perfect with our meal, and arrived promptly after we ordered. The servers were quick and courteous. It was nice that the menu had a wide variety of items in case you come visit with a friend who doesn't like sashimi or sushi. I've come to this place multiple times with my family whenever my two daughters are feeling like having some sushi for dinner. The food here is actually really good, with them have different kinds of sushi to having plates of teriyaki chicken served with white rice. It is a neat little place that has you leaving full! The staff is chill, the variety is good (my chirashi had 9 or 10 different things... We were waiting for someone to come take our drink order at least and 10 minutes passed by and no one came by.
