Went with group of 5. Two of us got there first and then the rest of the group showed up. We were waiting for someone to come take our drink order at least and 10 minutes passed by and no one came by. A group sitting behind us got sat after we all had been there and they already had their drinks and menu and next thing we knew they were getting their food order taken while no one check on us. Very disappointed with the service as we were ready to order food. I made eye contact with the 3 servers and no one decided to see if we were ready to order. The girl that said she would take our order after we all got there passed by us multiple times so we ended up getting up and leaving after we saw two new people get sat and immediately got their drinks along with menus. We were there just before closing (our bad, miscalculated the time), and even though it is really not nice to do that to restaurant workers, the staff was extremely kind and generous. We got quick, friendly ,and helpful service while they could have been (understandably) less pleasant with us. So kudos to the amazing staff! But that's not all. The food! The sushi was so fresh and so yummy, I kind of want to eat there every day! The salmon melts in your mouth! The ambiance is simple and clean, though it's always nice to see a little tanuki welcoming you! This is probably one of my most !-filled reviews, but we were that impressed. Lunch for four today; al was good. Shrimp and chicken chow mein, good, though the shrimp guy said he liked it spicier. Beef teriyaki was great; reminded me of Hawaiian street food- sweet (maybe pineapple juice in the mix$). Fourth person had a chicken, panko breaded and fried, over a curry-type stew,' very good. Ordered takeout sushi at the Goleta location. I occasionally like to eat there but takeout is my go-to for sushi on the weekends. It can be busy there since it's one of the more quality sushi places in Goleta. I ordered the Monkey Roll and some spicy edamame. Monkey Roll was fresh with a delicious chili oil that definitely had a bite to it. Edamame certainly had some spice as advertised. Overall a good meal. Service was solid. It was chaotic when I arrived to pick up but they have a pretty good system of taking names and shepherding the take out folk to where they need to go. The parklet outside eating area is nice alternative to the inside busyness. They have heating lamps and a much mellower eating experience. I like this place, however I prefer eating-in at the Bath St local. They have a cooler eat-in vibe. I definitely recommend for the Goleta people that don't want to make the trek downtown. The sushi and service here was pretty good. I ordered an orange dragon roll, a broken heart roll, a yellowtail roll and a spicy shrimp roll. The yellowtail roll & the broken heart roll came with less pieces than I thought, though they were both delicious. The prices per roll were reasonable ($6.50-$14.00) depending on what you choose. This place must be running low on salmon.... they covered the salmon on the top of my roll with avocado and still they charge me for receiving less than I should have. They placed the salmon on the top and covered all three sides with avocado to make it look like full when it was not. Avoid this place and drive to Santa Bárbara for sushi! We went in during lunch and the restaurant was empty maybe a few tables that had people, but not jammed packed. We were seated and waited 15 minutes until drinks were offered and the menus were brought to us. We had to literally flag down a waiter to place our order since another 20 minutes passed. Another half hour passed since we had placed the order and nothing---again the restaurant was not busy. We hit almost an hour mark since we were seated and asked that our order be to go. They hadn't even started on our order. When we brought this to the attention of who seemed to be the person in charge on duty he didn't seem to care and rudely stated that they had a lot of to go orders and those took precedent. When we told him that one of our colleagues phoned ordered prior to arriving and that his order was ready in 10, the manager just rudely stated you should have called it in. We wanted to eat at the restaurant which is why we went in the first place and not to go. Once we got our food it was basically thrown into the to go containers and pretty much with the attitude to leave when the food was given to us. Once we ate the food it was disgusting and did not taste fresh and tasty as sushi would taste. Save your money and take a drive into Santa Bárbara for better sushi and better service. Do not spend time waiting half a day for your order to maybe come. The bad service and mediocrity is not a one time occurrence as I have attempted this location on other occasions but this time it took the cake! read more

After 4 years, I'm still a fan of the consistent quality of fish, service and smiles. While it's not 5 star, giving it a 4 says allot. The recent addition of master sushi chef Sam from Piranha is a huge plus the reason I bumped this strip mall eatery in Goleta to a 4. What used to be good is now great. Sure you can order off the menu but if you're at the bar, take a moment to get to know Sam (both in Japan, owned a restaurant in Hawaii) and ask him to make something special for you. Wow, the Sakura roll had everything I was looking for, Tempura Shrimp, Spicy Tuna, Avocado, Jalapeno topped with Seared Yellowtail & Seaweed. I asked for mine in soy paper but I am pretty sure original would be just as good or better. The albacore was cold, fresh and tasty. You can taste the great quality. I also had miso soup and rice which both were great, above average. Lastly, but certainly not least, the staff, I mean all the staff, they were so on point with customer service. They checked in, they were quick, they were friendly and genuinely were there doing the most earning that tip. I've come here for lunch several times. I would usually have some rolls or the chirashi bowl, but when my Japanese friend said that she thought the ramen was "pretty good', I had to try it. I think her choice of words was "pretty good" as well. They serve a good size bowl that's very filling. It comes with a few slices of pork, egg, some fish cake and seaweed. (If there is anything else, I can't really remember, even after eating it twice...) Anyway, it can really hit the spot, when you are craving some hot noodle soup. In other ramen restaurants, I'm used to the egg being flavored rather than just being hard boiled, but it's still tasty. The broth has a good flavor, but if you drink too much, you will get thirsty. (Caution, I like salt, so it may be on the saltier side, depends on your palate.) I've also had the chirashi bowl here, which is ok. The fish is of decent quality and there is a good variety. My other friend recommended the Poke salad. On a different visit, we both had that, along with a few rolls. My friend didn't like part of the seaweed that came with it and ordered it without. Although I told thought I told them to prepare mine the normal way, they brought out identical orders. (mis-communication, clearly...) The service here can vary quite a bit. I've never had bad service, but there were a few times where it was way above my expectation, and our waiter was really, really, (and just for the added effect...) really attentive in a good way. I'm not sure what's with the 3 star average... I've been to Sushi Teri half a dozen times and have always had an excellent experience. That said, I frequent them more for the "teri" and less for the "sushi." I like their chicken teriyaki better than any other spot in Goleta/SB. It is lean, with the perfect amount of charring that sets them apart from teriyaki at other restaurants. The sauce is a standard ginger-teriyaki ... not overly sweet. I enjoy the cabbage salad that comes along with it, too. Their $12 lunch special is a nice deal, and has very generous portions. I frequently order their teriyaki as takeout, and it is always ready in ten minutes - never any problems and nothing forgotten. I have dined in a few times as well, and their service is fast, courteous, and friendly. This is a great option when you're in the Calle Real area. read more

Wonder experiences whenever I go here. The customer service is amazing and they serve really great sushi as well. Wait times are less than expected and are always quick and easy. On a mission for Japanese food and disregarding the three star average, my husband and I decided to try Sushi Teri. We arrived on Thursday night around 5 pm. Seating was plentiful and staff seemed very efficient. I ordered tea, a side salad, miso soup and dragon roll. My husband ordered a snake roll and Sakuro. We shared a fried ice cream. I had one misgiving over our server, who had long plastic nails- studies have shown plastic nails are harbingers of bacteria. Regardless, the food tasted good. The fried ice cream had a somewhat chalky taste, but overall it all seemed fine. Until one hour after eating- nausea. I got home and started experiencing terrible food poisoning every hour from 11pm - 7 am. I had to miss two days of work as a result. I called the restaurant the next day and asked to speak with the manager. The person I spoke with said he was in charge for the day. I provided him with details of the visit and unexpected outcome. Instead of demonstrating sincerity, his response was "yeah, that doesn't happen." Beg to differ, sir. It does. I asked to speak with someone else and he said he'd give my contact information to the owner. Someone called me and left me a ten second voicemail but didn't include their name or contact info. By that point, the nausea had returned and I wasn't able to take the call. I understand accidents happen but the manager's response wasn't sufficient. This is a health and safety issue. Overall, I can see no reason to return. read more

Bleh. How mediocre. It'd be lovely if there were more options in sushi in the Goleta area, but they're severely limited by the quality of food they produce. Like Sushiya and Itsuki, you and your stomach are better off dining elsewhere. The perk of this place is that the servers are incredibly sweet. Most, if not all, are students in the area just trying to make ends meet. However, it's clear that there's no good system in place; servers are not assigned to a section of tables, but rather, scattered all over the place. You get "have you been helped?" and checked in on frequently. Fish here is fairly mediocre. Although nothing we had was spoiled (snake roll, Surf's Up, and the white dragon), they didn't taste that great. The Surf's Up was surprisingly cold, with little discernible flavor. The snake roll was standard and edible, which was the bright side of the thing. If you don't like Sriracha, or are allergic to an ingredient in it, be sure to mention it if you order the white dragon. I thankfully am not, but don't like the taste, so I was displeased to see smeared dots of Sriracha on top of each roll. I ended up smudging them all off -- if I wanted spicy, I would've gone for something with spicy mayo. While my stomach eventually okayed the albacore, it did taste slightly fishy and almost like it soaked up an ocean-flavored brine. $45 is a lot to be spending for mediocre fish quality. While the service is amicable, there's definitely way more to be had at this price point in town (see: Goleta Sushi House, or a drive out to Sun Sushi.) read more

Sushi place as you can imagine. They have a wide variety of sushi rolls. We ordered 4 rolls to share between 3 people. I liked the Philadelphia and some parts of the rainbow roll. The other two rolls were not so good (one with eel and spicy tuna). In general the rolls were tearing apart and ingredients didn't feel so fresh. They can also improve the food's presentation. The service was ok, things came out quickly and the prices are reasonable. But the sushi is not very memorable. read more

Nice Sushi and Teriyaki We had a large birthday dinner with14 family and friends, so reserved the one long table they have. So many types of calamari, clams, sushi and rolls, it was fun to sample. The shredded cabbage salads were very tasty and well prepared, highly recommended. The teriyaki chicken was said to be scrumptious. The sushi prep and presentation was outstanding! The only downside that night was the order taking and plate service for our large group. One end of the table had their drinks and sushi very quickly, while the other end waited 10 minutes longer. I really have tried to like this place, but time and time again it just isn't good. It fails in comparison to is downtown location which is usually fantastic. The Fish at this location is consistently poor quality and service is terrible even when there is no one in the restaurant. It's really sad that this place can't get their act together. Tonight we ordered salmon sushi which tasted old and fishy. The hamachi sushi was brown. The hamachi hand roll which had nothing in it. Godzilla roll was underwhelming. Placed an order for pick up my Carpinteria roll had no shrimp!No Wasabi or ginger Ordered 2 warm rolls 2 cold rolls and they mixed the warm rolls with the cold in the same box our cold sushi was ruined. They should have put the 2 warm in a box and 2 cold in a box. Very disappointing after spending 55$ plus a 5$tip not what I was expecting at all. I've been sitting outside for a loooong time, and while it took forever for my plain udon to come out, my boyfriend's sushi is now in the making after 45 minutes of patiently waiting. Not only that, my tempura came out lukewarm and it tastes like it has been cooked in old oil... really disgusting. We came in after 7:30 to beat any sort of rush, and it still seems like service has not been improved. In fact, service seems worse now than the other million times I've tried to give this place a chance. I am actually pretty appalled by how long it takes to make regular udon- not curry udon. Not chicken udon. But literally broth with noodles (not taking into account the gross tempura). Also, in addition, why is there a sad amount of bean sprouts in it? Even with the little amount, the broth loses its udon flavor and is just overpowering with bean sprout. No thanks. It could be my hangriness talking, but I will probably never come here again. So ever since Azuma went out of business many years ago, we started going to Sushi Teri Initially it was great with excellent food and wonderful chefs Since they hired Johnny, it went straight downhill! My wife and I have seen him lick/ taste his finger then touch the food after, Twice! We out of desperation and lack of time tried again Bones in the albacore and tuna was cot so thick and wrong you couldn't bite it in half. Gross!! This is probably the worst sushi I have ever had in my life. Everything I ate was terrible Chirashi bowl - This fish was obviously frozen, not fresh. The texture was just awful. Even the piece of cooked shrimp was gross. The rice wouldn't stick together properly. The variety of fish was very basic too. But really I just can't get over how bad the fish was. I've had lunch here about once a month for a while - just long enough between visits to forget how mediocre it is. The service has always been average, but today is sunk to non-existent. After getting my order, no one ever looked over, stopped by or acted like they cared if I had everything I wanted or needed. The place had maybe 4 tables occupied and two servers. I could not get the attention of either. Finally, I had to get up and wait at the counter to get the ice tea refill. Never did get the wasabi. When the server brought the check, I explained I had been left alone the whole meal - and she just laughed. On the way out I respectfully told the manager that the service was not good and he just made excuses, then said, "we're trying". No apology. It's clear nobody wants to work there and they don't care about the customer experience. They don't even try to be welcoming or cordial. I won't be back. read more
