One of the best Sushi spots in the Santa Barbar area

Mediocrity is alive and well at Sushi Teri! I consider myself accepting and understanding of many different people's differing tastes and opinions, which is why, while skipping over menu items at Asian restaurants with cream cheese in them, I politely don't pass judgment. In this case however, it was hard to ignore that a good 80% of the rolls have cream cheese in them, and not just as an embellishment. My friend, being forced to settle, for lack of a single solid, straightforward menu item, was dismayed to find more cream cheese than everything else on the roll put together! Top it off with a pitifully organized and incomplete menu, an unprofessional wait staff, and too-high prices that fluctuate with little warning and you've got one of the most lukewarm, mediocre restaurant experiences I've had in recent memory. read more

I had something like a beef bowl, but at night its similiar with a different name, I cant recall. It came with mushrooms, spinach, and beef.It was like flank steak pieces. It was pretty good. The salads where gross. Seemed like mostly cabbage, and a sauce that seemed watery. The goyzas were good. I had one fill of soda, and didnt see my waitress again until the bill came. My wife had a teriyaki chicken meal with california rolls. They weren't the best, but pretty good. The teriyaki chicken was good to. Nice and juicy, not over overcooked. I'd say the sushi was similiar to safeways deli sushi. Overall I'd say the main course worth going back for, but not for the service. read more

Sunday night in Goleta and I was craving sushi. I didn't really feel like driving out to Santa Barbara so I decided to give this place a try. Upon walking in, I noticed it was very stuffy - A/C anyone? I ordered take-out (my hotel was less than 5 min away). I got the Alaskan Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Poki Salad. The salad was DRENCHED in sauce... not good. It really masked the flavor of the not-so-fresh fish... which I guess is a good thing? The rolls weren't very good - the fish was definitely not fresh and I had enough brains to just stop eating. It just tasted... odd. Service-wise: I got my sushi quickly. That's about the only good thing. The guy at the counter didn't seem too thrilled with his job... just indifferent. I wouldn't go back again. It's overpriced for the quality! read more

Mmmm pizza roll!! I'm not much of a sushi eater, but I love their pizza roll! Some friends and I took our kids and had a great time. Kids ate all of their food, plus the edamame appetizers. I used to come here all the time while I was going to UCSB. I have ordered so many different rolls and most of them are spectacular or just good. Their appetizers are very delicious. I would always get Edamame or gyoza. I have had their sake, which was very good as well. One time they brought out our order on this huge woven serving plate which added a nice touch to the presentation. All in all, I love this place. Ordering take out kind of lags. read more

This is my go-to sushi restaurant in town (I go somewhere else for nigiri/ sashimi). It's not too pricey and has a good selection of items. They have some very unique special rolls that are really excellent. In particular I love the surf's up roll and the love roll. I also like their popcorn salmon--yum! Their portions are perfect. Customer service is friendly, and generally prompt. Occasionally they'll switch waiters on you, and sometimes you have to go the front to pay, but to me that's no problem. Also, they serve sesame ice cream which is unique, but very refreshing. read more

Casual, large variety and selection of basic Japanese fare for reasonable prices. Large servings. Broiled salmon was frozen and not really fresh. Stir-fry veg with chicken was massive but the veggies were mainly the cheapest possible and the chicken was vague scraps of dark meat...cabbage, a few mushrooms, carrots and 4 small broccoli crowns. Steak was slathered with a vague, oily sauce. Teriyaki was good enough. Edamame, miso soup, and seaweed salad were xlnt. The starter salad consists of very dry shredded cabbage with a very poor mainly mayo dressing. Service is positive, energetic, and cheerful but disorganized on a busy saturday night. Very few sushi places in Goleta so this is OK for the area but they'd have a hard time surviving in Santa Barbara. read more

Sushi Teri is quite the place to go, especially on a Friday night. Sushi Teri is full of good vibes, great food, and nice people. Many families, couples, and singles all show up to the Japanese Restaurant, which makes it ideal for any person. I have been there three separate times, only because I am not a local to Goleta. I am from the Bay Area, and I often come down to Santa Barbara and Goleta in order to visit the University of California, Santa Barbara. It is quite the amazing restaurant to stop at, and I fully recommend this restaurant to any person that is social, friendly, and wanting to have a good time and eat some good food. I usually order the beef teriyaki plate with a side of California Roll. But today, I was feeling a little daring and strayed out of my comfort zone: I ordered the tempura udon soup. The broth was killer, and the tempura wasn't too over-fried and tasted amazing when dipped into the soup. The only thing I would have to say would be that the soup came with bean sprouts. However, it is not their fault, but mine, because I did not clarify in advance that I didn't want any bean sprouts. After I finished the soup, I decided I was not done yet. They had already given me the bill, and I had decided that I wanted a scoop of green tea ice cream to finish up a great meal. I asked if they could add the ice cream to the bill, but the fantastic waiter said that "it was totally fine," and gave the scoop to me on the house. And frankly, that was one of the best tasting scoops of green tea ice cream I've had in a long time (and quite the large one as well for $2.95)! I recommend this great Japanese restaurant because: - it has a great, young, active atmosphere. - it has amazing service; always quick even on busy Friday nights. - there is great tasting food that always leaves me full when I leave. - the college waiters are always fun to chat with. - they are very consistent in food quality. The only reason that I did not give this place 5 stars is because some of the meat dishes are a bit pricey. However, my experiences here at Sushi Teri have always been above-par and I will continue to eat at this amazing joint! read more

My favorite sushi spot for one big reason.. they give you HUGE portions of fish with every dish! The Sam special carpaccio is a must, always the freshest fish. Try the Ono nigiri, it's like butter; melts in your mouth goodness. The rolls are all good, my favorite is anything with eel and eel sauce. Yum!! Also here once a week! read more

Co- workers & I used to order lunch to-go from Sushi Terri every other day at Bath. The food was great & the price was reasonable. Yet, we stop because they started charging us for hot sauce. I understand if a customer is asking for an excessive amount but other then that it's offensive & customers feel unappreciated. We stopped going to Bath and started going to Goleta. Now Goleta is doing the same, they stated the manager is forcing them too. Now we stopped ordering from Sushi Terri & take our business elsewhere; Shintori on State is awesome. I've been into sushi for many years and have spent a lot of time in Japan and other parts of Asia where sushi is really quite different than in many places here in the states. The fish here, during my recent and only visit, was as good as I've ever seen. The Blue Fin Tuna was a large and succulent piece to die for. One split order was almost enough for my wife and myself. The Halibut was absolutely fresh and wonderful as well, but I removed the mint leaf, which is just not something I like. We had a 'whole Anago fish,' (ala White Board) which is sea eel and much milder than Unagi (fresh water eel) and it was as good as anything I've had in Japan. This is the place I'd recommend for real nigiri sushi. I don't do rolls, so that part I can't comment on. Rolls are usually a way to cover up stale fish. Real nigiri is how the people in Japan eat, when they can afford it. read more

Folks, Please do not go to Sushi Teri in Goleta! I went there this evening for Father's Day with my son and wife. We asked if we could make a modification to one of the dinner meals. Would the chef make the modification? No way. I was willing to pay more. We ended up just walking out. What I don't understand is if you are providing a service to customers and if it doesn't hurt your profits to be a little flexible, what is the problem? Being a little flexible creates a great experience for the customer leading to a) positive reviews on web sites like this, b) telling your friends, c) returning in the future. We ended up being very disappointed and will, never return to this location. Very frustrated! read more

We should have read the Yelp reviews first... and then we could have avoided this gastronomic disappointment. To start off, we ordered the chicken katsu, which they didn't have, so we settled for tonkatsu. Then we ordered the Surf's Up Roll, which said it came with the chef's "special sauce"... more on that in a minute. We also ordered the chicken gyoza, as an appetizer. The first thing to arrive was shredded cabbage salad, followed 10 seconds later by the Surf's Up roll. Very strange to have the salad for one guest arrive at the same time as the meal for the second guest, and our appetizers still hadn't arrived yet. The sauce for the salad was bland, and there wasn't much of it. The salad quickly got put aside. The Surf's Up roll was not good at all... covered with a mound of mushy, flavorless, reddish pink sauce & nameless seafood, it tasted like it looked-- possibly the worst roll I've ever had. The tonkatsu, when it finally arrived, had an especially thick layer of breading, was very tough and chewy, and was difficult to eat. Plus the plate it came on had dried food on it already (along with the bench seats); the waitress kindly removed it from our bill, but the damage was done. The $8 glass of chardonnay was not good, the hot tea was boiling hot and when finally cool enough to drink, bland as can be. Even the crispy gyoza and pleasant wait staff didn't make up for the overall disappointing meal we had. Long story short, we won't be returning. read more

I just get California rolls which isn't super fancy, each time they have been fresh and perfectly rolled with a good portion of each of the ingredients! Three stars, and that is being generous. Oh, the staff is pleasant enough Food is decent but not outstanding. My complaints are firstly the service and then the prices. My main course came out quickly)salmon combo) but then the service became increasingly disjointed and inattentive. The appetizers came out several minutes after my main course and was delivered together with the other party member's main course. Only one of two bowls of miso delivered and that was even later. The second bowl never did show up. Once the food was on the table the wait staff essentially disappeared. No refills of hot tea or water or other follow up. Again the folks are pleasant. The prices here have increased significantly since my last visit a couple of years ago. Used to be a reasonably price place years ago, but not so much now. Will probably be some time before I return as for the money there are better Japanese sushi restaurants in goleta such as It Tsu Ki or Goleta Sushi House, both minutes away. read more

We were very disappointed to spend $80 for diner for four and get shrimp tempura that was limp and flavorless sashimi that was thick cut and stringy no sauce for tempura or gyoza. Our kids would not eat the teriyaki and it was dry and tasted off. The yellow tail sushi was flavorless and dry. Did you change chefs? I doubt we will come again. read more

I have ordered from them four times during the past few months.. Three out of those four times they have forgotten items from my order. I usually order the Tempura/Teryaki combo meal.. and they usually forget either the salad or California roll... This last time really irritated me.. I got home and realized they didn't give me the Miso Soup I ordered.. or dressing for my salad. I called to let them know and they said they would credit my credit card back for a soup and salad.. and next time I come in I get something for free.. Yea right.. They never even credited me back for the soup and salad like he said he would. The food is pretty decent, but the service needs a lot of work. Generally I would give Sushi Teri 4 stars, however tonight we had a horrible experience. My boyfriend and I ordered a roll with the "chef's special sauce". We have come to the conclusion that it is simply SPAGHETTI SAUCE. Imagine biting into your delicious roll to be blindsided by the taste of freezing spaghetti sauce!! Raw fish and spaghetti sauce is the most disgusting combination i have ever had. I am warning you to stay away from the surf's up roll and pizza roll. You have been warned! read more
