    Chicken teriyaki
    Sarah M.

We were really excited to try Sushi Tomo after reading a lot of positive reviews, but the food left us disappointed with no plans to return. I ordered takeout and our food was ready on time. Someone had written my name on the bag in lovely script which I thought was a very sweet gesture. All the staff were very polite. However, the food itself was lacking, especially for the price. The Hot Stone Bowl Bibimbap was bland, particularly the vegetables. The chicken teriyaki was swimming in sauce and overwhelmingly sweet. The gyoza were fine. I don't think these were issues related to ordering takeout.

    Birria Ramen

Stumbled into here when it was one of the only places with power, and it was great! Fast service, good sushi, and the birria ramen was surprisingly one of my favorite dishes!

Had a much better experience at this location. Karaage chicken Bao had a good sauce and well cooked chicken, wish there was some more veggies though for a crunch. Sushi rolls were also good and filling, reasonable price. It's at the end of South side so parking was easy on a Sunday evening. No wait for 6pm either.

    Sushi Platter for Two
    Sierra D.

I ordered some take out last night, and my boyfriend and I got the sushi platter for two to share. All of the fish was super flavorful and fresh. The website says to allow at least an hour for takeout orders on the weekend, but it only took about 20 minutes. I've dined in here before too, and the staff is so helpful, they have great daily deals throughout the week, and it is has a great vibe!

My fiancé and I were blown away by how delish this sushi was!…read more What we got: -Yummy roll (chef's special roll) - shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado -Spicy tuna roll -Philly roll -Gyoza The rolls were thick, especially the Yummy specialty roll! I think the seaweed was a little crispy in my tuna roll, because there was a slight crunch that I loved. There was also an extra, uncut version of my spicy tuna roll, which we did not order, but twas a happy accident! My fiancé loved his Philly roll, and we split the Yummy roll which was just insanely good. And of course gyoza is always a good idea! It was a little pricey, but we ordered from Uber Eats, so the prices were hiked up (the Yummy specialty roll was $25)... not sure what the actual prices are like because the menu isn't available online from what I can see, but I'll probably go there to order next time! So excited to have this in my rotation! we are so lucky to have such high quality sushi in Pittsburgh!

A TV is on and playing concert shorts of singers (have no idea who), singing American tunes. Not awful but strange. You order from a QR code and enter your table number, but they will present you with a bill at the end, again strange. Decor is a bunch of pictures of beautiful sushi plates, I am for sure they did not come from this kitchen. We ordered: Onion pancakes Crab Rangoon Beef ramen Chicken ramen Spicy combo sushi plate The order it came out: Miso soup (we were asked shortly before this what we ordered. I showed my email from my order, and said Ramen and Miso showed up). Rangoon's: strange texture to them. It was like an under fried ravioli but with cream cheese as filler. Chicken ramen (actually pretty good; not great) Beef ramen (not as pictured; fried beef chunks with gristle in them in a chicken broth- not beef). Looong pause where we thought we weren't going to get the rest of our order Sushi combo (upon looking at it, I called it sushi slop). This was by far the most messy sushi I've seen. I think I could roll better on my first try! It was falling apart as we were trying to eat it! Fresh watermelon (not ordered but I'm guessing it is replacing the traditional orange quarters). Onion pancakes: dripping in oil; not very good. More Phyllo than onion. To top it off me, my husband and 12 year old all ate 2 tums on the way home. Feel like a rice brick is in our stomaches. $65! Never again.

This used to be one of our favorite places for sushi. Last night it was not busy at all, but the service was subpar, I ordered a salad and never received it. I was so disappointed because their ginger dressing is by far one of the best or at least it used to be. It's been a while since I've had it. The sushi was good, but the rolls were not rolled real tight (they fell apart, and the pieces of sushi seemed much thinner than they used to be). On the plus side specialty rolls are 40% off Mon-Thurs for dine in so that was a nice bonus! The woman's room can use a good cleaning: the toilets all have huge rings around them and there were fake nails on the bathroom floor along with dirt and grime.

"No. That shouldn't be in the menu but it's been there for years." Okay, but the dinner comes with shrimp and it's $29. I'm allergic, can I substitute? "No." So, you take off the $8? "No." What do people do that have seafood allergies? "They leave." Okay. (Food might be amazing, no clue. The staff was sweet about it and without calling the owner out, silently called the owner out.)

Kura is a fun, casual lunch or dinner option if you like sushi, tempura, or ramen. The restaurant…read moreuses a conveyor-belt system: plates and small side dishes continuously pass your booth on the main belt, and you simply take whatever looks good. A touch screen at your table lets you order items that aren't on the main belt; those orders arrive on a separate, fast conveyor belt above the main one. When you finish, drop your plates into a slot at the booth--plates are counted and you're billed by plate. Drinks are ordered on the touch screen as well and are brought to your booth by a friendly robot. The format is efficient and entertaining, and it's easy to sample a variety of small dishes. Ramen, tempura and other dishes are available alongside the sushi, and service is generally quick because of the automated system. That said, the sushi itself is just okay, not outstanding. You can find better, and cheaper sushi elsewhere in Pittsburgh, but those places won't offer the same conveyor-belt experience. There are two downsides to keep in mind: the continuous stream of plates makes it easy to rack up a large bill if you're not careful, and the sushi quality is only average, but if you want a fun, interactive meal with lots of variety, Kura is worth a visit. If you're after top-tier sushi or trying to stick to a strict budget, choose a different spot.

We enjoyed the idea that every person can order their own dish and it's personal-sized. There's no concern about ordering something that no one else likes and leaving a lot of leftovers. The quality of the food is good. Their kitchen items are always appreciated. We especially like the ramen, scallop. The noodles are better than fast food.
