Skai is newer sushi spot on Butler St under the Arsenal Lanes. I placed an order online for take out and that was an easy process. The instructions were clear with an estimated pick up time. When picking up, I noticed an ordering kiosk and some tables to dine in. It definitely feels like a fast casual vibe which is an awesome addition to Laweranceville! The sushi was tasty and priced well. The veggies in the shrimp tempura roll were super fresh. I wish there was an option online to add veggies to the spicy tuna rolls. I enjoyed those rolls too, but maybe could have used more spiciness or sauce. Overall, Skai was great in terms of convenience and presentation. I look forward to trying more sushi from here!

Skai Sushi just opened in Lawrenceville and I was super excited to try it out. It's a small, fast-casual spot with about five tables and a few window bar seats. We were greeted right away, and the ordering system is fully self-serve through a POS tablet, which made things quick and easy. Our food came out promptly, and even though they'd only been open for two days, the staff was attentive, kind, and clearly working hard to smooth out the opening-week kinks. When we went they didn't have paper menus yet, but they said they will be coming out soon. The rolls were pretty standard in flavor but beautifully decorated, and everything looked great. I especially loved my eel poke bowl. It was fresh, flavorful, and well portioned. I'd be excited to see even more fish and sashimi options added to the menu as they grow, but overall, Skai Sushi is a promising new addition to the neighborhood. I'll definitely be back for take out!

This is such a good find in Pittsburgh! Great sushi! I got the Philly roll and Pittsburgh roll and they were so good. My boyfriend loves Eel so he got the eel bowl and he loved it. It was a good size too! The person who owns it is really nice too. We will definitely be coming back!

Not the best sushi I've ever had but for a newer business it was really convenient and well put together.

All I can say about my recent visit is WOW! We were so very impressed by this AYCE experience…read more When comparing it to other AYCE Sushi type places my family frequents, this has become our favorite. Their selection of appetizers were great, and the quality of each was stellar. We attempted to try quite a few of them, and still have many we want to try. In our group, the tofu with an amazing dashi broth, the crab puffs, "sexy jalepenos", tempura kani, and the gyoza were the standouts. As I stated, though...everything we had was awesome. We all ordered a different ramen, and then shared. They were all phenomenal. The steak teriyaki was also great. Sushi wise, we didn't get to try as many as we had hoped. We were too busy reordering the appetizers. We did try the Crazy Mango roll, and ended up reordering that because it was so good. My kids were with me, and they love all things Mango, and this was phenomenal. For dessert, we had a few orders (and reorders!) of the fried bananas. Overall, I cannot speak higher of our experience. It is very clean, well kept up on, and the service was phenomenal. Quality wise, you can tell how much effort they put into the place purely on their presentation. I had to remark many times about how utterly beautiful some of their dishes were. This was not like our other AYCE experiences where they just rush food out to you. They actually put effort into their craft here, and it is quite obvious. We will definitely be back, and look forward to trying new things that we didn't get to before!

My usual order is the chicken katsu bento box, which comes with a good portion of crunchy sliced chicken katsu, rice, two dumplings, a California roll, and miso soup. It feels like a solid, filling meal with enough variety to make it satisfying. The only downside with my most recent takeout order was the sauce placed in the middle of the container. I'm not sure exactly what it was, and after tasting it, it wasn't really for me. Because of the layout of the takeout container, some of it spilled into the rice and rolls. Next time, I'd probably ask for that sauce on the side in a separate container.

It honestly raised the bar for sushi in Pittsburgh and feels like the kind of restaurant you'd expect to find in a much bigger city. Everything I've tried has been incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. Yes, it's a splurge, but it's absolutely worth it for the quality. The service is excellent, and the view overlooking Mount Washington makes the whole experience even better. If you're looking for the best sushi in Pittsburgh, this is it.

The restaurant is located right on Mt Washington, giving a good view of the city. The interior looks appropriate for a sushi restaurant, but due to the massive windows lacked the darker vibe of other upscale restaurants. I've been to hundreds of sushi spots and the interior was merely average. Otaru seems to struggle with its identity. It needs to either commit to being an upscale restaurant or relax and simply be a quality one. The wait staff were kind and prompt, but at times appeared they may be less experienced. We were brought hot (paper) towels and edamame. We ordered the fried tako balls as an app. I personally don't prefer tako and found it very dense and chewy and the overall flavors were too undeveloped. The hand rolls were well filled and were easy to eat due to being more of a taco configuration than a true hand roll. The nori was not too tough, lending to a pleasant experience. The nigiri and sashimi were also good. The nigiri were good, but not as elevated as another upscale sushi spot in the city. They were still very good, but not quite excellent. They either need a bit more development or to be relaxed and served as two per order and the price adjusted slightly upward. If you take one thing from this review, let it be this. The yellowtail jalepeno cups were astonishing. By far this was the most well executed dish I have ever eaten and the best sushi dish I've had. They appear to be wrapped in toasted sesame seed wrappers. If you've had Hapi mixed crackers they give the same great flavor of the "fried chicken" pieces but with yuzu vinaigrette and the umami of the fish. I will certainly be back solely because of how good they were.

Dining in, takeout, and GrubHub delivery are available. My husband and I ate lunch in the dining room. An employee promptly and courteously greeted us and seated us at a clean, small table. For an appetizer, we each received a cucumber salad that my husband described as "really good," and we ate every morsel! My husband received his entree many minutes before I received mine. He ate the pad see ew with chicken, and he said that it was "average" like other restaurants' pad see ews and that he liked it. I ate the special lobster-tail roll, which was a large size and contained a Maine lobster tail, avocado, asparagus, avocado, masago, spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tobiko roe. Part of it was fried. I really enjoyed the lobster meat and sauces. The total price for these two entrees was $45 plus tax and tip.

Casual vibes, nothing fancy and more like a hole in the wall but comfortable. I took 1 star was because The resto didn't have their AC on, which made it uncomfortable on a hot 92 degree summer day. They did try to compensate by adding a window fan for the whole restaurant. Nothing was said and nothing else was offered for that issue. The price point for sushi was also pretty high. $9 for regular sushi rolls like tuna, salmon, California, spicy tuna.. usually prices are about $5.50-$7 in the New Jersey/New York area.
