Hands down my favorite sushi spot in town. I have a slight obsession with sushi so I've tried many places in the KC area. This one is so amazing!! The lunch special is an incredible value. You get soup or a salad, plus crab rangoons with your order. You can get 3 sushi rolls with the lunch special for around $13. It's an amazing deal for how much food you get. I've been coming to this restaurant since it first opened several years ago and I've loved watching it grow and see how many people have come to love it. It's pretty much earned a cult following at this point. The food is so incredibly good. I've never had a bad dish here. Everything is so fresh, and prepared perfectly. The staff is super friendly and I love sitting at the sushi bar, watching the chefs slice and dice. I honestly can't bring myself to go to other sushi restaurants anymore, just due to the fact that I know I'll be disappointed and will just wish I went here instead. The food and pricing is always good. I do feel like the service is good as well but the past few times I've been, I'll put my chopsticks down for a second to talk to my friend and they come over right away to ask if I need a box and if I'm done. They immediately give us the check and remove our plates. (Which is good service, but it all happens so fast as if we're being rushed). It's almost like they're trying to kick us out. Today, all of that happened within 30 mins of us even arriving there and other tables were empty and no one was in the waiting area. One of the very few negatives of not working in the Lenexa area is that Sushi UNI is no longer a convenient lunch spot. It is so good however, that it's worth the trip from Lee Summit on a day off. There sushi lunch offering is fantastic. One can choose three different types of sushi rolls ( not just the very basic ones) and either a soup or salad and get 2 crab Rangoon for 13 bucks. It's enough for one lunch and a serious snack or possibly just a second lunch. For the quality and price, no place else that I know of comes close. Their sushi is consistently good. They are still only doing takeout during the days of Covid. No big deal as their menu is online you can call in your order and pick it up usually around 20 minutes later. I and my boyfriend are big sashimi eaters. We moved here in Overland Park less than a month ago. We have this favorite Japanese restaurant in KC,MO but last night ,we decided to try Sushi Uni out. Never failed our taste buds! They had everything we wanted. Plus, their toro(fatty tuna) and Uni(sea urchin) were surprisingly cheap!!! Sushi UNI is great. Best sushi in KC in my opinion. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because how long the sushi takes. If you are going to go on a Friday and Saturday night, I'd advise getting there at either 4pm or 8pm. Because you will wait 1 hour for you table, and then another hour once you sit down just for your food. Otherwise, great spot! read more

This is the best, inexpensive sushi I have eaten in the KC area. I order the sushi combination or 2 roll lunch special. Personally, I really like the taste of raw fish, but the people I go with usually eat some variety of cooked fish in their rolls. For lunch they have a two or three roll special which includes your choice of soup and two crab Rangoon, which can be substituted for a green salad with ginger dressing. I dine in and order take out. I find it fun to sit at the Sushi Bar watching the mostly Spanish speaking sushi chefs work so fast to create beautiful and tasty sushi! I would've given it 5 stars if the seats/booths were more comfortable and the restaurant a bit cleaner. However, I think part of the reason they can keep the prices down is because it isn't fancy, is in a low-rent and hasn't updated the restaurant with newer more comfortable tables. Still I find it hard to get sushi anywhere else due to the fresh fish and low prices! read more

I was so excited to try their lunch special l, and decided to treat myself to a new place on my day off. I arrived at about 11:30 and phew, were they busy! Every table was taken and they had begun putting people on a wait list. I came in, as a patron of one. Shortly after my arrival, a party of two also arrived. I assumed I would be seated first, as I arrived first, but was astonished to find that the party who arrived after me took the last remaining table (I was actually going to offer to have them be seated at my table so they could be seated faster, as all of the tables had either just recently ordered, or just started their meals). I waited for another 15 minutes before another table opened up. I ordered the lunch sushi special with hot and sour soup and crab Rangoon. Honestly the best hot and sour soup I have tasted, and it is difficult to please me with that soup. Bold flavors, a perfect amount of white pepper, and chunky. Crab Rangoon had fresh scallion and cream cheese filling was just so creamy. The appetizer portion is large, I was full off of that. My sushi came out next with an assorted nigiri and cucumber roll. I also ordered the Uni nigiri. When the sushi arrived, it came out with a long, wavy piece of brown hair stuck in between the ginger and wasabi. I brought this to their attention, and I'm fairly certain they just scraped off the wasabi and ginger, and substituted it for a new glob. My sushi came back in less than 30 seconds. It did return with a side of fresh wasabi, which has a deeper, more potent nasal reaction, and was very fun to try. The fish didn't have an astronomical wow factor, but was fresh and large portioned as well. I was super excited to try their Uni but was hugely let down. Uni was not fresh at all and left a bitter and metallic aftertaste in my mouth following. The taste was a bit off, with lots of fishy, oceany aromas. Overall I was glad to have tried out a new place but I do not wish to return. read more

I've lived near this place for awhile and for some reason, am just now trying it. I am upset this is my first time coming here! The staff working is so kind, the service was definitely 5/5. I even left my purse on my chair and one of their staff ran it out to me. I got egg drop soup and my boyfriend got miso, they both came with our meal. We also got two crab rations each with our meal. I LOVE egg drop soup and their egg drop was a little different that what I'm used to, it had a Smokey taste. I still loved it! I got chicken fried rice and my boyfriend got a sushi plate. The chicken fried rice was HUGE, good but I might try their sushi next time. My 9 year old and I went to Sushi Uni this past Saturday. It was packed! We were told it was a 40 minute wait. They take your number so you're not stuck standing in the small waiting area. It was less than 40 mins when we were called. It is a very small dining area, but the food and price for lunch was well worth it. We each ordered the one roll lunch special. Our bill was $20! I think I've found my favorite sushi joint in KC! I've been meaning to try this place out for a while now, but have never had the chance since it's so far from where I live, and closed on Sundays. The prices at Sushi UNI are very reasonable, and I love that they don't skimp on the amount of fish included in each roll. My boyfriend and I got the tuna roll, salmon roll, rainbow roll, and daikon maki, and while we waited for our rolls to come out, they offered us a spicy crab salad on the house. The spicy crab salad was a delicious combination of crab meat, cucumber, seaweed salad, and tempura flakes with what I believe was spicy mayo. The salmon and tuna rolls had thick cuts of salmon and tuna, and inside each roll was a bit of wasabi. I wasn't expecting the wasabi since there was no mention of it in the item description of the rolls, so that was an interesting surprise. Next time however, I will definitely request it without since I'm not into spicy food. The rainbow roll had a generous amount of sliced raw fish on top of it, and those slices were also nicely sized, compared to other places that give you paper thin slices. The fish also tasted pretty fresh, despite the fact that we're landlocked, and the rolls were really large and filling. The daikon maki was also really delicious, with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, crab stick, masago, and cucumber wrapped in a thin slice of pickled daikon. The roll needed no soy sauce to accompany it since the taste of the daikon added a lot of flavor to the raw fish. There wasn't a single thing that we had ordered that I disliked, so I will definitely be coming back to try out other items and their lunch menu! read more

The seaweed salad is generously portioned and delicious, served over cucumber. My favorite roll here is the White Tiger roll- such interesting ingredients (lemon fruit with rind!) that pack a flavor. I went here with so many high recommendations. To say I was disappointed is a huge understatement. My husband only eats a few rolls( crab, spicy crab, and honey crab) they had no just crab meat options. He is a trooper so he ordered the veggie fried rice meal with egg drop soup and crab Rangoon's, while I ordered the ahi tuna roll(tuna inside and on top) and miso soup. We did not have a good experience with service. In less than 1 minute(literally 1 minute) while I was physically eating my soup(spoon in hand) THREE different staff members tried to take my soup off the table, AS I WAS EATING IT! The food overall was a 3 at best, my miso soup was a dark brown color, the crab Rangoon's tasted really stale and my husband's egg drop soup tasted almost rotten and was completely white. Also his fried rice was mushy. My sushi roll was good but not worth the hassle it felt like just for dining at this place. read more

This place has a great lunch special that offers a lot of food for a very reasonable price (2 rolls, crab rangoon, and soup/salad for $9.75). I got the crispy calamari and Dino rolls for lunch. Once we were seated the waitress took ok our order & the food came out fairly quick which compensated for the long wait. We ordered Crab Rangoon as our appetizer & I got the Teriyaki Salmon which came with soup or salad. I opted for the Hot & Sour soup which I must say was delicious! One of the best I've had ever. The salmon was cooked to my liking. Not raw or overly cooked. I'm not positive if they take reservations but if they do I highly recommend it. At least for dinner time. Based on the reviews, I expected Sushi UNI to be "pretty good". My lunch experience didn't live up to that and I was severely disappointed. I visited with a group of friends on a Wednesday afternoon for a quick lunch. All I can say was it wasn't quick. Upon arrival, we were told it would be a 15 minute wait, which is completely understandable based on how busy it was. However, after 25 minutes, the hosts didn't update us or anything. They acted like we didn't exist and didn't even care to check up on the table for us. I was fed up with their service so I asked the host how much longer we had to wait. He replied with an attitude that he was preparing the table. Why couldn't he tell us that beforehand? We were seated and immediately served drinks. Though the hosts were indifferent, our server was especially accommodating to my vegetarian friend. Our crab-rangoons, soups, and salad came out promptly after placing our orders. When my Dynamite Roll and Dino Roll came out, the presentation was not that bad, but the sushi itself was mediocre; I've had much better in the KC area. Again, disappointed by this sushi joint. Overall, the only thing I enjoyed consuming here was the hot and sour soup. I will not be returning based on how I was treated and for the OK sushi. read more

In my opinion the best sushi in Shawnee/Lenexa area. We've loved every sushi roll and had fun around Christmas when they did holiday themed ones. The fried rice is great, but our new favorite is definitely the spicy crab salad. Whenever we have sinus congestion we order the hot and sour soup to go! This place was pretty good, it was my first time here. I liked how they have t-shirt merch you can buy in the front and how there's a waiting area that is separated from the whole dining area. The workers were very nice and came around enough to assistant us when we needed something. My siblings and I ordered a squid salad as an appetizer and we annihilated that in minutes. Shortly after they gave us a crab salad dish on the house which was amazing. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki dish. The portions were huge and it was yummy. I also tried the Chicken and broccoli dish and orange chicken which were decent. Overall, the dishes we ordered were a great experience for us. I would go here again for the appetizers! read more

We had to call to place an order and they told us it was goi got take 45 minutes. We drove there and it actually took like 1 hr and 10 minutes but it was well worth it.
