I was craving both steak and salmon, which isn't a combo you find everywhere, so I appreciated that this spot offered it -- and that they were still open at 8PM. I ordered the steak and salmon hibachi through a delivery app, so I'll keep that in mind with my feedback. The hibachi comes with rice and a salad. The steak and salmon were cooked very well -- tender, not overdone, and handled with care. Unfortunately, they were a bit under-seasoned. The rice was cooked properly and would probably pass Uncle Roger's inspection in most respects -- it just needed a little more salt. Flavor-wise, I wasn't disappointed. Under-seasoning is something I can fix at home, and overall it tasted about how I expect delivery food to taste. What did disappoint me was the portion size. For the price point, I expected a bit more on the plate. All in all, it wasn't bad -- but it wasn't great either. Just okay. And okay is fine... just not at that price. This little sushi & teppanyaki place is very easy to get to and has pretty good food. I went in for lunch with a friend and he got a salmon poke which he said was fantastic and I got the sushi lunch with crab rangoon and as you'll see in the photo a ton of wasabi and ginger! I also got a Tsing Tao (which is hard to find and one of my favorite lagers) For the sushi, I got a spicy crunchy salmon roll and a yellowtail scallion roll. Both rolls refresh and tasted great. The wasabi could have used a little more pep to its step (But I like stuff a little on the spicier side). We took our kids for the first time to a hibachi experience. We get to-go a lot from Hira's but hadn't gone for that yet. It was great. My daughter even caught the shrimp in her mouth. Hit or miss. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. I ordered on DoorDash and I couldn't select how I wanted me steak cooked or leave notes. I called to let them know and the person I spoke with told me to fill that out on DoorDash. That wasn't an option but he refused to listen. We called ahead and requested the hibachi table, It took quite awhile to get seated. While waiting for our table we observed that the hibachi chefs were just going through the motions. The waitress that was taking care of our table was friendly and did a good job checking on us. I ordered the Green Dragon Roll which took quite some time to get delivered to the table. The Roll was good but was over priced for what it was. The Crab Rangoon was more cream cheese than any crab flavoring and they used Duck sauce instead of the normal sweet and sour sauce. After a long while the chef arrived at the table. I have been to several hibachi restaurants over the years, there was hardly any entertainment like one would expect, Enough that after he out my steak and lobster on my plate I completely forgot that he was even there cooking the rest of the peoples food at our table. I pass this restaurant frequently and thought about checking it out. It's a Friday night and after trying unsuccessfully to get a reservation, called continuously for 30 min, we decided to give it a try even if we had to wait. There were three in our party, interested in hibachi, and I was surprised that the wait was only about 15 min for a table with six other diners. Our server was cheerful and efficient. I have been to several other Japanese steakhouses and enjoyed the service and performance of the chefs. It's been awhile since I've seen chefs who juggle the salt and pepper shakers, tap out beats with utensils or make bad jokes, but they are still around. Unfortunately Hira's is not one of those places. While our chef was accomplished in his task, he lacked any flair and spoke little other than verify our orders. Normally sauces are presented as soon as all plates are filled, our chef waited until he had cleaned the grill and put everything away, then passed out some yum yum sauce. Ugh. Well, if you like mixed rolls, this place is fine. My partner loves their crunchy rolls from here. We came in to dine in for the first time. I got the chef special sushi with 6 nigiri and a yellowtail scallion roll. The fish quality, when you're getting a maki roll or a nigiri is very obviously not there. The fish tastes mushy and watered and there just is no taste to it. Like I said, if you got a roll that had ingredients to mask the flavor and the quality of the fish, it tastes fine. But I like simple rolls, and I could have gotten better at Hen House, honestly. When I saw that there was no cars in the parking lot I should've turned around. I've driven past this place for years never gone in, but I was forced in for a friends birthday party. You can only sit down at a hibachi table if your whole party is there. And they have to make the food all at once which is understandable. The hibachi station had rice in the cracks where the stove was, I think they should consider cleaning that. My friend ordered the sushi, seeing the cleanliness of the hibachi station and all those old grains of rice lodged in the crevices, I would probably never consider eating sushi from a place like this. Let alone eat...but here I am. If you are ordering hibachi, each meal comes with either a soup or a salad to start out with. We started out with the dumplings and they weren't the best. They looked like they had been reheated and drowned in soy sauce and sirracha drizzled on top to make it look like something but it was doing nothing for the dish. The dumplings kept falling apart. The salad dressing was good but it was iceberg lettuce and I think that's the worst lettuce of them all, not to mention the lettuce was old and looked like they opened a bag of dole lettuce and slapped it in the bowl. As for the hibachi, each plate is at least $20 or more each. It comes with steamed rice and veggies and then your protein which is prepared on three hibachi station. I ordered the chicken and shrimp. My friend ordered the calamari and someone else ordered the beef. The portions were large, but there was no flavor. I'm just not a big fan of hibachi I don't like smelling like the food. This past Sunday night, my husband and I, along with another couple, went to Hiras. My husband and I have dined there numerous times in the past. Upon arrival, we waited to be seated and were placed at a table with three other guests. The restaurant was not busy, there were no other parties waiting, and it was a relatively slow night. We observed two cooks finish with their tables, yet we waited 45 minutes after placing our order and still had not been served by a cook. My friend's husband politely approached the owner to mention our long wait. The owner responded in a hostile tone, stating, "If you don't like it, you can go," while making a dismissive hand gesture toward the door. My husband then approached the owner to express that customers should not be treated in such a manner. In response, the owner gave my husband an obscene gesture and said, "F** you. Leave."* At that point, I paid for our drinks and we left. In my 58 years, I have never experienced such unprofessional and disrespectful treatment as a paying customer. It is clear that the owner does not value his patrons. We will not be returning to Hiras. The owner does not deserve to have customers. read more

Was craving hibachi. Went in early on a Friday night. It was just my husband and I. They had no problem seating us, even though it was just the two of us. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. Hibachi chef was great too. We really enjoyed our meal. The steak was very tender, and cooked to our desired temp. Shrimp and chicken were great as well. I love their ginger dressing salad, and the sauce they serve with the hibachi. Portions seemed massive. This place used to be a favorite of mine back in the day. After moving back to the area last year, I was excited to get sushi from here. It wasn't that great, and even had an off taste. My partner and I come here on occasion when we need a quick sushi stop! It is not our favorite sushi, but they are conveniently located for us and right off the highway!! The sushi rolls are pretty tasty, the 12x12 I think is one of the best on the menu - simple but flavorful! I ordered the shrimp fried rice because I was in the mood for something different rather then my usual roll! The rice was delicious but the shrimp was hardly seasoned if at all. I maybe would have chose a different protein choice, but I love shrimp. It is usually slow in the restaurant when we come around late lunch, so service is quick! It is very quiet, usually no music playing just the sound of your conversation so if that is a downside for you, you have been warned! Our first time at Hira's. We have recently returned from a trip to Okinawa so we are pretty particular about our Sushi and Sashimi. This place hit all the notes. Generous and fresh portions, What an amazing experience. My wife had the Teriyaki Chicken and really enjoyed it. Service was amazing, never had to ask fir a refill and several times someone came by to see if we needed anything. If you are looking for great and authentic Japanese food, this is your place. Are used to order the teriyaki chicken rice bowl at least once a week from here but they have removed it as an option. I have tried the teriyaki chicken dinner, but I do not want the soup or the salad and the meal does not taste as good for some reason as the teriyaki chicken rice bowl. Abrupt. Calling for reservations and being seated and all the customer service is abrupt. Not bad, just no nonsense. The food is consistently good. The chefs are good. The wait staff is good. Everything is really good. I rate it as great because it is convenient and I can't imagine where I'd go for this atmosphere if it wasn't here. Can in on a Friday night w/o a reservation and got seated fairly quickly. The hibachi chef was very entertaining and did some tricks that I have never seen before. Our server was very attentive and so nice. She noticed that my daughter had done her makeup for the occasion and complimented her. Between the 6 of use we got steak, salmon, shrimp and scallop. The steak was okay but the salmon and scallops where out of this world. The portion sizes where huge. We also order sushi. The rainbow roll had lots of color and tasted delish. The spider roll was average. The show stopper was the salmon sushi. It was delicious and melted in the mouth. My kids LOVED it. Got the virgin pina colada and would skip it next time. The bag broke and my wife even tried to pick some of it up. 2) Your manager was EXTREMELY rude the moment we walked in there to complain. 3) That toenail was found IN OUR FOOD. If people are wearing close toed shoes, then someone put it there on purpose. Not us. 4) The manager that night has been rude to not only my wife, but other patrons as well. This is a pattern with this individual. 5) The manager tried to take the toenail from my wife and refused to let go when we asked. It wasn't until I intervened that he let go. 6) We allowed him to take a picture of the toenail. 7) We did report this incident to the health department along with the pictures we took. 8) The nail was obviously very dirty as you can see by the pictures. 9) I see you didn't address the issue of my wife suddenly, and violently, vomiting after eating a couple pieces of sushi that did not contain fish. It was literally cream cheese and avocado. It's obvious by your response that you literally don't care about your customers. We were seated quickly on a Saturday night. The table was clean and the servers were efficient and polite; my glass was never empty and our server very patiently answered all my questions. We did not sit at one of the six hibachi grills, but patrons seated there seemed like they were having a lot of fun. Our food was served quickly. We started with Pork Gyoza and it's some of the best I've had in the KC area. I had chicken fried rice and my companion had the Hira steak and some sushi - there's a very wide selection of rolls. My family and I love Hibachi. It's probably my favorite food. We came in and had Hibachi. It was good. My daughter and I had steak and shrimp. You have to pay extra for fried rice. Which we did. It was good. They give you a seafood appetizer. My husband had steak and chicken. It was good. The food overall was good. I would have liked more lemon on the shrimp and a little more garlic flavor. But it was not bad at all. Would try this place again. The service was also very good. As the staff was very attentive. Yesterday me and my husband decided to got for sushi for Valentines Day. It was 2 pm, 4 hours before Super Ball. We Usually go to Hira's, not too far from our house. Waitress said they were closing early for Superball???? We were leaving and 6 people were going inside the restaurant. The guy who was the owner of Hira's very said: go find something else. We have been going here for years. IT IS THE BEST! Very clean, very friendly and fabulous service. Always very fresh fish and you can also do the hibachi as well. Also sushi served in a pleasing presentation. The owner and superior chef remembers his clients, nice touch. It's always on our food list when we are in town. Our children are hooked as well. A solid 3+ stars. When one thinks about fresh fish, you tend to not think about the center of the USA, especially Olathe, Kansas... right? Well, not so fast. With the advent of overnight everything, why should fresh fish be any different? Well, in the food desert that is Olathe, you'd be partially correct. A group of co-workers and I decided to do Japanese food, with some ordering hibachi, and a smaller group of us ordering actual sashimi and sushi rolls. I cannot comment on the hibachi items other than a few items being incorrect, but I partially blame the orderER more than the orderEE. The hibachi items looked to be just ho-hum, middle of road in quality. My sashimi and sushi rolls were good, aside from one roll that had an abnormal "fishy" flavor and accompanying smell. Well, before I get steamrolled for saying "my fish smelled fishy", it should go on record that I've eaten sushi from all over world, including it's home. There was something abnormal about this one roll, so we stayed away from it. Everything else was spot-on from my order and most everyone else's. To be fair, we were a large group, but the fishy-smell thing left a bad taste (poor pun, I know) in our mouths. I'm sad to see some bad reviews on Harus because I love this place!!! I don't branch out too far to try new things but the things that I always get is always good. I love their soup and salad that comes out before dinner. I feel like the cooks on the habachi grill aren't as funny as some of the other japanese steak houses around there but they can cook and that's all that matters to me. Their teriyaki chicken is good....scallops are okay they're a lil bland for me, the lobster is good and steaks I just don't like from japanese steakhouses because they chop it and their shrimp is shrimp. But what I do LOVE from their habachi is Salmon...I don't know what it is but it is sooo good. Delish I want some right now just thinking about it lol. Some rolls I like are the spicy scallop roll, smoked salmon cream cheese is always good, christmas roll is great, I've had some other specialty rolls and I think they're all good. and I know I'm kinda working backwards here but for appetizers their crab rangoon, calamari, and seaweed salad is great. I feel like the service is hit or miss here. Went for lunch craving sushi and was pleasantly surprised on how good all the food was! We got appetizers and 3 rolls all of them being amazing. The waitstaff was friendly and super attentive. Food was decent BUT they add an 18% 'service charge' on everyone's check if you go in with a big party (even if you're paying separately). When I asked the server about it, he said it's pretty much a tip that gets split in between the workers. But then they still have an option to tip while signing your bill. I normally would tip 25% or more for great service but when you pre-add a tip on my bill that's all you're gonna get. I won't be back... I really miss Gojos. read more

This is almost a two-in-one restaurant tucked away in an Olathe strip mall. When I say two in one, it's not two for the price of one, but more of one or the other. You can pick hibachi or you can pick a sit down dinner. The hibachi is similar to other hibachi's I've been to. You make your order, a person comes in and cooks it on a grill in front of you, throws some knives in the air, tosses some shrimp your way and might light a fire or two. It's good. Real good. Table service is a bit different. Obviously you're seated and you can order from a menu that mixes different Asian-inspired cuisine including sushi. I've eaten off of the Tappan Yaki dinner menu a couple of times and have no complaints. Portion size was perfect, if a bit on the large size and everything was cooked as ordered. One small drawback is a "folding" wall is all that separates the hibachi area from the sit down part of the restaurant and sometimes if you're in the sit down part while a hibachi cook is cooking then you won't be able to hold a conversation because you will hear are things being set on fire and kitchen utensils be tossed around. When it's happened while we were dining we just kind of chuckled and smiled at each other for the ten minutes it was going on, but this may not be the place for you if you're wanting to have a deep conversation during your dinner. read more
