Probably some of the best sushi in the Tri Cities. Reasonable prices for good portions. Great presentation and the service was pretty good as well. We went with three kids and they loved it. We've always had excellent sushi at Sushi Ya, we tend to go earlier (closer to 4 or 5) but service has never been a problem. My wife and I have been enjoying sushi ya for several years and her being from New England it absolutely compares to the better sushi places there. For fish being frozen we've never had a problem but if it's a fresh water fish (salmon included) it is always flash frozen to be considered sushi grade, otherwise it runs the risk of parasites and can't be served. Honestly though we come for the rolls, the caterpillar roll is fantastic and the crunch dragon (a spicy tuna roll with a nice crunch and a fantastic finishing sauce) and sushi ya roll (a nice roll topped with a baked scallop and a mildy spiced mayonnaise sauce) are good for anyone, even those being introduced to sushi. My wife's favorite is the sashimi roll which uses a cucumber wrapping instead of the traditional seaweed wrapping (though there is still seaweed to keep it together). Even the miso and vento boxes are tasty and good alternatives to those who aren't as big of sushi fans in your party. We've used sushi ya to make converts of both my parents as well as to introduce my sister and niece to good sushi. Overall this is easily the best sushi restaurant in town and one of the better ones we've been to altogether. read more

We were in town for the 4th of July weekend and craved sushi. We were a little skeptical about having sushi in a desert area but were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Rolls were huge and filling and tasty. Our waitress, a mature Asian lady (didn't catch her name) was super sweet and funny. The service I experienced was very bad. My fiance and I were seated and promptly forgotten about without so much as our drinks taken. After ten minutes or more of waiting, I had to get up and ask one of the wandering waitresses if anyone was going to serve us before we got begrudging attention. The food itself was pretty mediocre. I ordered an eel roll that was sickly sweet, its sauce almost like syrup. My girlfriend and I went to Sushi Ya and she got a horrible stomach virus from the Rainbow Sushi Roll. I know for a fact that Misu Sushi has been keeping their raw fish in the "Danger Zone" twice as long as is permitted and wiping the condensation off the plastic covers to make it look fresh, but this place has no excuse. This was my first time here and from the reviews it's a definite hit! We weren't dissapointed, we had to wait for a table but that hust added to what was coming....the menu is very extensive. We ordered the Dynamite, Godzilla, along with 2 other amazing dishes and loved them all. The presentation was outstanding looking like a 5 star! Pricey but good overall. We got the medium size sushi platter and it was good. the fish size was generous which was really nice . The California roll was okay. We also got the octopus salad which was small but nice and crunchy and tasted good. My husband got the teriyaki chicken special which was quite good. i kinda wish I had ordered it too. we will definitely be back for their large portions of sushi. read more

I've been to three sushi restaurants in the Tri Cities, and this is my favorite. Good food, good service, and great price. You want a nice selection of freshly rolled sushi that you can enjoy with a nice, warm sake, this is the place. Food is really good a little expensive compared to larger areas. The service is slow so be prepared don't go if you are on a time crunch.

This is one of my favorite places to eat in the tri cities. Sushi can be a bit of a mixed bag, but this has been consistenly decent for my fiance and I. Never any issues with any of the prepared or cooked rolls. read more

The sushi just didn't taste good. I should have know better it is located in desert like climate. The four star overall rating and its proximity to the Columbia River I thought maybe...but NO! This is by far my favorite sushi place in TC. They have a huge menu of sake, for those whom imbibe. The atmosphere is quaint and the chefs are interactive and visible from the dining room. I'd recommend the salmon sashimi, spicy salmon roll, or the Alaska roll. read more

Sushi ya is NOT good food. The sushi is brought at room temperature, and not cold. The soft shell crab was NOT fresh. The teriyaki salmon was over cooked and cooked too fast, so all the albumin was lost and left the salmon dry. The restaurant does excel at vegetable preparation. I suggest this restaurant find a way to bring in fresher proteins and hire skilled cooks who have experience in Asian preparation. read more

Coming from Seattle sushi is great and I waited two years before trying any sushi here. I have been to almost all the sushi places in this area And sushi ya is my favorite. They have classic rolls and tons of wonderful concoctions! I strongly suggest the dynamite roll, Malibu, Daniel, and las Vegas. The only problem is the size of the restaurant. Its location won't allow for expansion and when that place gets busy you can be there for a couple hours. I would love to see them in a new location. read more
