I haven't tried all the sushi restaurants in Tri-Cities but I've been to enough sushi restaurants around the US to know quality fish. And this place kicks ass! I was seriously blown away by the freshness and flavor of the saba (mackerel) on top of their seasoned rice. The salmon was tender, buttery and sweet like good salmon should be. The creamy scallops were just as delectable with little bits of roe in it. Their rolls were pretty big and tasty. No, it's not super spicy even though it may say spicy but the reality is if you make the food too spicy and a customer complains, it gets sent back to the kitchen and the restaurant wastes the food. So I understand it's quite difficult to please everyone. Personally, we loved the Samurai roll and will pass on the Kamakazi roll next time. Sushi or sashimi is a must. As for service, I thought our waitress was fine. Nothing great but she was attentive enough where I didn't even have to wave anyone down. I feel like I entered a different restaurant than all the other Yelpers. With all the 5- star reviews this restaurant had, I was sure it would be at least "pretty ok". However, from the moment we walked in for dinner, I felt like we were severely inconveniencing the server. We were seated right away, but with no greeting, just a wave of the hand and no smile, no hello. She plopped the menus down, and if we weren't so tired from traveling all day, I probably would have walked out at that point. We ordered appetizers, a hot meal for the kids, and rolls for my husband and I. She didn't ask us if we wanted anything to drink, and walked away before we could think to ask for any. She didn't come to check on us at all until the food was ready. It's possible she was having an off day, but seriously? The sushi was just okay, I can't imagine what all these other Yelpers are raving about, it was okay, not "amazing", but adequate. Timing wise, she served the appetizers at the same time as the sushi rolls. The hot meal, which my poor kids were waiting for, came 10 minutes after everything else (and she didn't say "oh they're still working on your teriyaki", so I'm sitting there wondering if maybe she didn't get the order right). Every interaction with this woman was uncomfortable. So, if you're from out of town, and wondering if you should stop here for dinner, my suggestion is, if you have any standards for sushi and service, probably don't do it. I almost would have rather eaten at one of the many chain restaurants on the same street (and I have a strict no-chain restaurant policy, when its my choice). There are a lot of things I will endure without comment, but apathetic and rude service is just unacceptable at a full service restaurant of any kind. This is my new favorite go-to sushi joint for the Tri-Cities. The dining area is well laid out and has a good ambiance. There is an actual sushi bar with about 5-7 stools to sit at. The staff were attentive and very friendly. Then there's the sushi. A friend and I tried three different rolls, and they were very yummy with fresh-tasting ingredients. As for sushi in the Tri Cities, this is probably the best. The chefs are awesome! Last night I pulled in for take out, and was visibly impressed with the results, as well as 210% satisfied after eating four different rolls in one sitting! Yeah, I kind of eat a lot of food. So here's how last night worked, I walked in and was greeted right away, there was no wait for me to place my order! I talked with the Chef at the first station, (wish I got his name) and asked chef what he would recommend. I told him I wanted four different rolls, and to mix it up, surprise me with what he likes the best. Now I wish I had not said that because as reviews go, I'd rather let ya'll know what I had! Let me tell you if you ever like to be surprised, and delighted at the same time, put your life in the hands of a well qualified chef. I am truly glad that I did. One of the rolls was spicy and fried. I think it was panco bread crumbs, which kept warm until after I got home. The other three were prepared cold. One spicy, had jalapeños that kicked up the flavor about ten degrees, the other two mild, and complemented the other two spicy rolls. Out of the two mild rolls, one was made with crab, the other I believe salmon. All I can say is it was GREAT! Please go check this place out. I would say good bang for your buck, however, that's all relative. Some people like to invest in the stock market, where I would much rather invest in food and wine! For my money, this is the best sushi in town, with a wide selection of offerings and creative presentations. The sushi never tastes overly "fishy" and always seems fresh. The chefs are authentic and can be entertaining if you engage them in conversation. I was curious about the soft shell tempura crab, so I tried it. It was pretty good! I had just never eaten a full shelled crab in tempura style, so i appreciated something little off the wall I had never tried before. Bring a few friends, get a boat and a Sapporo! I'm always leery of sushi made by non Asian workers. Please don't get me wrong a true Itamae interns for 10 years before he can make sushi. Tonight my rolls were made by a nice enough fellow and they were acceptable but made with way too much rice. The second issue I had was my two rolls were served separately. This allows the restaurant to dictate how you decide to eat. A total ball drop if you ask me. Make both rolls deliver them let the guest decide how much of each they should eat. The waitress were decent but again nobody checked to see if I was happy. They left my salad bowl and menu on the table through meal and after the sushi maker delivered my second roll nobody bussed the first empty plate. The second waitress filled my water once. My waitress brought my bill without asking if I wanted dessert or anything else. The experience all seemed sort of phoned in. Based on some of the Yelp reviews I read I was hoping to like this place and in reality it was decent but I've had much better. Service here is terrible. My husband and I came 30 mins before closing time and felt rushed to finish our meals. The waiter was frantically trying to get us and the table behind us to finish up so she can rush out the door. Aside from that, the waiters don't smile and they aren't attentive to checking tables. I am over this place! The ol' sang "to big for your britches" comes into play with this place. I have a three strike policy. I always get my food to go because..... The place is small and honestly the wait staff is not friendly nor helpful. #1 With that being said I called a few weeks ago to place an order and the girl on the phone said we are not accepting phone orders because we are to busy and rudely hung up. So, since I live sort of close I drove over there and there were 3 couples in the place????? I walked in and ask to place a to go order and they said no??? So I left #2 I have to order my food with no cucumber because I am allergic (gives me hives) we ordered over a 100.00 worth of sushi and we repeated and had the girl on the phone repeat NO CUCUMBER! Get there pick up the food and ask did you remember to make the food with no cucumber. They answered yes..... Got home guess what???? Everything has extra cucumber!!!! Really! So we called and they said bring food back we remake for you! No thanks so i let the family eat while i watched. They said next meal 20% off! #3 Called last night placed a 78.00 dollar sushi order. Paid extra so I could have a philly roll with salmon that is not smoked. Told them my name and they said oh you have credit. So I gave then a bigger tip for their kindness to make the situation right. Got home...... Smoked salmon in roll. No avocados in Philly roll. Only 1 monkey brain when I ordered two. And everything tasted like soap as if they did not rinse their tools properly. Threw away 78.00 worth of food in the trash. I was visiting the area and came here just before closing on a Wednesday night. I ordered 12 Nigiri rolls to start. When the plate arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent presentation. On top of that, they were nice enough to give me a bonus roll! For my second order, I ordered more nigiri rolls but told the chef to surprise me with the types of fish. In addition to the amount I ordered, this time I was given two more bonus pieces! An awesome gesture that made an already great meal even better. The sushi is excellent, tastes very fresh, and has tons of flavor. I have a big appetite, and I have to commend any Sushi restaurant that can leave me completely full for under $30. Quite possibly the Best Sushi i had since moving to the West Coast, i wish i would have tried the Saki but i think i probably wouldnt have done a great job at work that night! For starters, the service was outstanding and very attentive, The location is not too appealing to the eyes, i think if they had a better location, more people would actually go there instead of Mizu located at Columbia Center Mall. Food was Fantastic, i ordered for starters the Gyoza potsickers, then followed by a Samurai Roll, and finished the meal with the Lychee and Ginger pairing of ice cream which was the highlight of the meal...thank me later :) Price is very reasonable, a true gem in the Tri Cities, cant believe it took me so long to give them a shot read more

This establishment serves great, fresh sushi. It is by far the best place in the area to get a good boat of rolls. I eat there often and the service is always friendly and the food always fresh. The waitstaff are very personable and friendly. They are prompt with the water and drinks, as well as refills which is always a plus in any eatery. This place's popularity has grown beyond what it's current location can provide. I would like to see this place expand and invest in their interior design and ergonomics. It's not quite comfortable for large parties but would be a great place to have large parties or dinner groups. I recommend this place to any sushi lover! read more

Ambience: As soon as I walked in, I thought it was an overall nice place to eat dinner. I thought it was clean, had a comfortable noise level, and was immediately acknowledged by the staff (which I loved most). But that's just the atmosphere of the place, how I really judge a place is by its food and service. Food: To me, the food was just alright. It's not something I would crave or go out of my way for, despite the bomb reviews this place has been getting. I had a side of tempura, some of which still had powder in it. I appreciate food being brought out in a timely manner, but I'd rather wait the few minutes to get food that's thoroughly cooked. Service: Besides being acknowledged upon entering, I thought the service was worse than the food. My brothers and I have this thing where we base the tip on how many times the waiter/waitresses refill our cups with water without having to chase them down. Let's just say I had to ask for water and still didn't get my glass filled before walking out the door. Overall, I give this place a 2 out of 5 stars. I just found my new favorite sushi place in town. Finally stopped in after hearing about the place for the last year and I'm really sorry I waited this long. It is far and above the best sushi place in town. The atmosphere is very nice and the food was absolutely incredible. I tried the jalapeno popper which turned out to be one of the best things I've ever eaten. Fried and filled with fish and cream cheese, and covered in some sauce, I'm dying to go back and get it again. The prices are just a bit more than the other places, but that extra price is well worth it in the taste. Can't recommend this place enough, and you have to try the jalapeno popper. read more

This sushi was amazing. I had a veggie roll and I was so sad when it was over. Dinner for two was around $25, each of us having a roll and sharing edamame for an appetizer. It arrived very quickly and the service was for the most part really good. It is a very small place...only about 12 or so tables in a small strip mall, but it is worth the visit. A couple caveats: It took a while to get our order taken. One server seated us and then did not take our order, and about 10 minutes later another server asked if we had been helped yet. It was kind of weird but it didn't really matter. Also, the sushi comes served on ENORMOUS boat/plate things. I have never had sushi presented like this...and it was extremely strange. I mean the boat/plates were pretty sweet, but they were huge and sort of awkward. Would definitely be back if I were ever in the Tri-Cities again! read more

I have billed this place as my favorite sushi in town and as such, convinced my non-sushi husband to give it a try with me. Sadly, our Friday night out here was overwhelmed with EXTREMELY (and I can't express this enough!) lousy service. My husband ordered first, however only my food came out. After 15 minutes of trying to flag ANY waitress down to ask, his order was never put in. We had to eat our meal on 1 glass of water the entire time. We were never checked on. NOT ONCE. NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. So while we had hoped for a nice, enjoyable dinner with drinks totally bombed. At the end, the waitress didn't even bother to apologize or make it right. Point is, great sushi? I really like the sushi here - fresh tasting and lots to choose from. The presentation is nice too, and if you order a lot, it will arrive on a wooden boat :) The restaurant itself is on the small side so it can get really busy. We went last night (Friday) and it was packed until close. There are only two sushi chefs so be aware - this means that you will wait a while if it is busy. This seems to bother some other reviewers but I think that is what comes when sushi is made when you order, not prepackaged. The sushi chefs are super nice so try to sit at the bar. They like to chat and offer you little plates of seaweed or mochi. Overall, great sushi. Service on the slow side but worth the wait for the food. read more

My experience seems much different from everyone else's...I went in to order take out, which seemed to put the waitress in a bad mood. She was extremely unhelpful when I asked about different items. I asked her if the sashimi was thinly sliced, she said yes and I got half inch thick sashimi. I ordered 4 things, paid 42 bucks and waited HALF AN HOUR. they were not really that busy. The food wasn't awful but it definitely didn't warrant the cost and the wait time. I ordered the Kamikaze Roll. The chef handed it to me personally. It was very good. They also gave me extra wasabi as I use a lot. I can't think of any aspect of my experience that could have been better. My wife and I have eaten here several times. We prefer to set at the sushi bar and interact with the owners, a very nice husband/wife team. On a recent visit we noticed that we hadn't been charged for one of our rolls and the sushi chef was so appreciative of our honesty that he created a special roll for us, on the house. My friends and I came here on a Wednesday evening and it was quite busy. We had to wait 45 minutes to be seated and another 60 minutes or so before we actually got our food... Even after business slowed down a little. It's a good thing I wasn't especially hungry. After we got our food, we were completely ignored until it was time to pay and leave; annoying since one of my friends had wanted to order a second plate. The sushi itself was tasty. People keep calling it the best in the Tri-Cities, but I don't know about that... I'm not a sushi expert. I definitely didn't enjoy it *more* than the other places I've tried here, but I didn't like it less either. This would be three stars if it weren't for the wait. If there's not a line out the door and you're willing to risk slow service, this is a perfectly fine place to go. read more

Very delicious and fresh with a good selection. I'm from Seattle and was a little hesitant to get sushi in Tri-Cities, not that I'm a snob but if you want good fish get it near the water, right? I was wrong! The food was as good as any sushi place I've been to. I would 100% recommend the rainbow roll, though I admit being in the area a short period of time I haven't had the chance to try many different things. It was a large portion roll with a fair sized piece of fish of each type. I also tried the Godzilla roll (deep friend soft shell crab, cream cheese, eel) and it was ENORMOUS; it was probably over twice the size of a regular roll and would be impossible to eat a piece in a single bite. Definitely be in the mood for tempura if you order this! The last thing I got (yes, I ordered too much!) was the spicy tuna hand roll and it was good too (though my personal preference is for them to be slightly more spicy). I went on a Friday night (around 7:30) and every table was taken with a few groups waiting; a steady stream continued to arrive and when I left at 8:30 people were still waiting (even though there was room for some of the groups of two to sit at the bar, people are weird). The place isn't that large and there were 4+ servers with multiple people preparing the sushi. You might wait a bit longer when it's busy but that's obviously because it's good, and worth waiting for. read more
