Not sure what to expect...an Japanese/Chinese restaurant on the edge of Middletown, DE couldn't possibly satisfy an Asian craving, could it? Asian City will not hit you with a blast of authenticity. Half of the staff isn't Asian and the name's a little corny. The food is what matters and they did a decent job of making a satisfying (and large) meal. First, the miso soup. My two boys love miso soup. The broth was a little dark, but it came in a huge bowl and the tofu was plentiful. We also ordered the orange chicken and mapo tofu. Both were good. A little spicier than the kids were used to, and the portions were huge. My one son ordered california rolls, I ordered a spicy tuna roll, and my sister ordered a volcano roll. Good presentation, good taste, fresh fish (where applicable). My wife ordered a poke bowl. It was bare bones and not much dressings. They could probably leave this off the menu. Got take out from here for lunch :) The first thing I noticed is that the prices were slightly higher then some of the other sushi places in the area. We ordered the Honeymoon roll, sunset roll, eel and cucumber roll, salmon sushi, wonton soup and egg drop soup. The signature rolls were okay. Idk didn't taste the avocado didn't taste that fresh to me. My husband said the salmon also didn't taste fresh. The eel and cucumber roll was pretty good but that's prob cuz of the eel sauce on top. We did enjoy both our soups though. Not sure sushi is their thing but since it's an Asian fusion type place (has chinese, hibachi, poke bowls and Thai food) then maybe some of the other dishes are better! What a gem! After a long and exhausting morning attending our final walkthrough to our new construction home and settlement, we wanted to slow things down and grab a nice bite to eat for lunch. As this restaurant was literally next to our settlement attorney office, we decided to try it out. So glad we made that decision! We ordered the Poke Bowl and Sesame Chicken. I opted for the sushi rice and salmon. It is loaded with salmon and avocado! The eel sauce is not overwhelming and adds a nice smokey teriyaki flavor to the dish. The Sesame Chicken was nicely fried and had nice big chunks of chicken. As we just moved into Middletown, we will definitely be back here! read more

Pretty good based on my expectations. If you are like me you are slightly skeptical of a place that covers Japan, China and Thailand. I waited till the wife was out of town and ordered a bunch of stuff to try. I was pleasantly surprised by the nigiri sushi. It was huge and fresh, but the spicy tuna roll was off. Not enough mayo, which I know sounds weird, but it just didn't taste right. We also had pad thai, mei fun, fried rice, and teriyaki salmon. Everything was good but not amazing. Way less greasy than the other Chinese places in the area. An extra star for that. I got delivery and the online order was pretty good. Food showed up when expected in nice containers. Wow, food here is truly a step up. A lot of subtle adjustments to make your average take out experience go from satisfying to exciting. Don't be fooled, the sushi here is what you came for but you'll stick around for everything else. Fried rice that isn't too greasy and feels fresh with a large entree portion, a crisp egg roll with soft cabbage inside surprisingly makes everything feel just a tad bit lighter. I'll certainly be heading back soon to try out more. In all we ordered the sugar mama and caterpillar roll, chicken and broccoli with fried rice, dumplings and egg rolls. The price came to about $60 before tip. The prices are definitely higher than I typically expect from take out like this but if you aren't hurting for cash this is a great way to spend it! read more

We enjoyed our food however for the price they are charging this will not be someplace we will go frequently. Their prices are 40% higher than most Asian restaurants. I believe you get what you pay for BUT these prices don't deliver the quality you think you're paying for. Standard items like NO large soups? Do you buy two soups but then you're paying far more than necessary. Again, good food just too expensive as a regular rotation. read more

The restaurant is under construction, but the kitchen is open for pick up and delivery. The owner is a really nice person. He is polite, friendly, and helpful. Competing with the loud noise of the electric saw, it took a little shouting back and forth, but we managed to find a couple of things on the menu. As others who have already reviewed have mentioned, the prices are astronomical, especially for the quality and quantity of the dishes. The population size in Middletown does not allow a business to thrive unless it attracts repeat customers. I, for one, Shall not return. The food needs major improvement overall. The rice for the chicken curry was days old, extremely salty (and I do like salt!), and some of the vegetables in the chicken curry, which was also too salty, were old. Several pieces of the green peppers were wrinkled and had seen better days. Mushrooms could have been fresher and needed three more minutes of cooking. For $14, I was expecting chicken curry, not vegetable curry with a few pieces of chicken thrown in. Taking off $2 for the little rice and a bunch of old vegetables, even at the supermarket prices, $12 buys you 6lbs of chicken breast! There were may be five or six pieces of medium size pieces of chicken in the curry. The container they use is "clever." It has two compartments divided 2/3 to 1/3, and curry was in the latter compartment, and rice in the former. I have not seen fried rice with curry that often, but it would have been ok, had it not been days old. This restaurant hasn't even formally opened, and already has comments on Yelp and elsewhere that mainly complain about the price. Some like the food, but being extremely familiar with Indian food, I was disappointed. I also ordered three rolls, tuna, salmon, and albacore for $13. The rolls are thin, have very little fish, and taste bland. An Indian restaurant that sells Japanese food should do it in a way that honors the Japanese culture. And to be honest, if they are struggling to produce decent Indian food, may be they should concentrate on improving their own culture's food, before appropriating other cultures. I was watching Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Hell and Back, and couldn't help but worrying that this Asian restaurant is heading towards needing GR in the near future, if it does not lower its prices to be compatible with many other Asian restaurants in the area, and improve the freshness and quantity of the food they serve. The first thing that must go is the silly little containers they are using. Then they need to be brave and throw out days old rice and veggies and serve fresh food. When I told the owner that the prices are way higher than average, his retort was that his food was much better than those other restaurants. For an Indian selling Indian food of the quality I saw today, that statement is alarming. read more

The prices are pretty high. On a few items like their fried rice and lo mein they're outrageously high. I knew this before going in, but I figured I'd give it try anyway because I don't mind paying a little more if the food is good. Well, that was a major letdown. My 16yo daughter, who ordered sesame chicken, who would eat it every day if I let her, said "This really isn't very good at all, do I have to eat this?" As far as I'm concerned, this place is the newest addition to the Mid'twn DE's list of mediocre Asian Food restaurants.
