Sushi was so-so. Service was pretty slow although restaurant was only about half full. We are Asian and we were not expecting anything close to authentic Japanese here but I was still surprised when our Asian server didn't know what Japanese tea was. I had to say it twice and then she asked "hot tea"? The tea and miso soup came out lukewarm, standard "Japanese restaurant" salad was watery. Kids had bento boxes. I didn't expect to find such a good place in the boonies of Delaware. I was in the area and stopped by for a quick bite to eat and I was pleasantly surprised. I had two of their specialty rolls plus some pieces of Sashimi. The quality and flavor was all extremely good, definitely one of the better places I've been to. I have ordered several platters of Sushi and sashimi here. Very fresh and the rolls are prepared and cut when you order. My kids love the specialty soda with a little glass ball you pop in. They are a little pricey but worth the experience in quality, taste and atmosphere. read more

I have tried this place a few times,I brought my son the last time who lives in Japan, and he said mom this place is horrible, the sushi was over priced and proportions were small and not very good. I am no veteran of sushi houses, having had sushi at maybe 3 or 4 places but I love this place. My favorite is whats called the dynamite roll which is a sorta spicy specialty roll that includes smoked eel. Everything I've ever had there was good tho and I've probably been there 10 times now. If I could give Sushi Yama 10 stars I would. The best days to go there is Friday as that is when they have most of the "specials". Kevin is a great chef and if you ask will explain the "specials" in detail because some of them are so different you won't find them in every sushi place. We are there every couple of weeks, not just on Friday's because it is that good. The entire staff is friendly and courteous. Sushi Yama is highly recommended as a must at least try. read more

Aite full disclosure let me begin by saying that I'm super critical of sushi and steak houses because quality of the protein is of upmost importance. And so the three stars isn't indicative of the restaurant as a whole but rather solely on the quality of the fish. Non high end sushi houses used flash frozen fish that is vacuum sealed in chunks instead of getting fish flown in on a regular basis so the quality is mostly the same and will change based on how they handle the fish after they defrost it. I sampled six different rolls along with tuna, salmon, eel, and fatty tuna sushi pieces. The sushi pieces itself were okay. It's not the highest grade of sushi however the texture was good and did not have an odor or bad aftertaste. The salmon sushi had some sinew and was slightly chewy but still acceptable for sushi houses. The rolls on the other had were not up to par. Most people won't be able to identify the taste of the fish in the rolls because it is masked by the gobs of mayo or sriracha or avocado etc they put in but they do have a strong aftertaste to them. Basically for specialty rolls sushi houses will use end pieces or left over cuts after the sushi pieces are cut up and mix them into the rolls and that is fine as long as the cuts are not refrigerated for more than a day. The issue is that the fish becomes less palatable after they get defrosted and cut the first time. The ratio to fish and rice is good and for the most part it is worth your money here but please don't expect Jiro level sushi. I will try their omakase one day but I would expect it to be on par with most mid level sushi houses anyway. read more

by far the best sushi i have had.... i always heard miki motos was the best in delaware but i have to say compaired to sushi yama it wasnt even close..... i had 6 different rolls 3 the same as i had at miki motos n sushi yama was by far better.... if u love sushi u should def. try it out... read more
