Nestled in the Publix shopping center is this little gem for awesome sushi! Fabulous all the way around.. from the decor, ambiance, wait staff and selections. Chelsea from Colorado, (our home for 25 years) was our server. What a delight she was. The place was pretty busy considering it was a Tuesday night. We were seated right away in the last booth available and presented with complimentary soup and small appetizer. The menu is large, all tasty and fresh mind you. It's a bit daunting but if your a sushi lover, you will be in heaven! I ordered a spicy fire cracker roll, seaweed salad and spring rolls. My hubby ordered too many things to list and was extremely happy with everything. We will be back often as it's quite delicious and close to home. Pardon me but I ate some before taking a picture because it just was sooooo good! Where the lettuce is I had Toro (fatty tuna) and it was SO EPIC! If you haven't come here already, DO IT! This is some of the freshest sushi I've ever had! The fish just melts in your mouth and the flavor is just ! I NEVER eat the ginger but let me tell youuuuu.... They make their own pickled ginger. WOW! So refreshing and amazing! The owners are the biggest sweet hearts and they give you free soup and a shrimp and Kraft tempura. WOW! Wonderful Sushi spot in St. Augustine Beach. Everything was fresh and tasty. I'm very picky about my sushi and all I can say is WOW. My husband and I had the lunch special 3 rolls for $11.00. We did two spicy tuna rolls and 1 Spicy scallop roll which was HEAVEN in my mouth! They bring you complimentary clear soup, salad with ginger dressing and a fried crab appetizer with this amazing sauce drizzled on top. I had a glass of their plum wine and we also ordered the Gyoza appetizer which was perfectly steamed. Our sushi came out super fast which we appreciated since we just finished a 2 hour car ride from Orlando. Can you believe we only spent $25.00. We're locals who visit Zento once a week or so. The sashimi is always fresh, great service, love the sushi chefs and the entire team has been awesome. I have to agree with the other reviewer...FINALLY(!) a real sushi restaurant in town! I made the mistake of thinking it was just another Asian restaurant like the 2 previous that had occupied the same space. I was soooo wrong! While the other restaurants were "okay" this one is run by new owners and unaffiliated with the previous owners/restaurants. The sushi is fresh and creative. Our favorite roll is the Crazy Girl roll and the Happy roll. There are many more rolls that look amazing and we would love to try. Let's put it this way--I was there 4 times in my initial week of discovering . My husband and I both agreed that we LOVE this place! You won't be disappointed!! read more

Here on vacation and decided to try this restaurant based upon the recommendations on Yelp. We were pleasantly impressed by the food and how nice the space was given its strip mall facade. The soup and sushi roll starter were such a nice touch and my kids loved them both which saying something! We tried many rolls. All were fresh and delicious. My only complaint was they were a bit smaller than I normally see in sushi restaurants, but that is my only one! Price was reasonable and service was quite good. So Sushi Zento in St Augustine opened recently and my so and I went for lunch and have to say, this is the third place in this location and as they say, third times the charm! They have redone the decor it is a very clean place and the Bento Box Lunch was very reasonable, @$8.00, came with soup small salad two gyoza, California roll, fried rice or white... I come here whenever I'm in town visiting the family condo and today was no different. I always go for lunch and I always choose the two or three roll combo. You can choose between two classic rolls for $9 or three rolls for $12. That's only the start of what makes it a good deal. Your meal comes with soup and salad and they always bring out a complimentary krab rangoon type appetizer for the table to share. All of that is included in the lunch special price. I love their yellowtail jalapeno roll because it's not something you see often under the "standard" rolls. Tuna and avocado roll and all the spicy tuna/salmon/yellowtail options are great. Sushi Zento looks a bit rough on the outside but when you walk in the place is extremely stunning. They even have fish for you to look at as you walk through the door with a modern and sleek design. My boyfriend and I came in during the lunch hour and so the prices are pretty normal for a sushi place. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi lunch special with fried rice. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the vegetables were roasted nicely for a hibachi style dining. The only thing I would complain about is that the sauce was collecting at the bottom close to my rice so my rice absorbed a lot of the sauce, making it quite salty. My boyfriend ended up ordering the sashimi regular which comes with 15 pieces of fish. The quality was pretty good and he got tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and a couple of other white fish. Based off the look, smell, and taste I would say that the presentation for the fish was amazing. It looked very beautiful upon arrival. The fish were extremely thick cuts and they were all cut to about the same size. Overall the experience was nice and even the waitress was attentive of taking dishes away and giving us fresh salad, soups, and water. She asked many questions to make sure we were taken care of. I do recommend that you come here for some fresh sushi with a modern atmosphere. read more

I can't believe this place has 5 stars. I ordered a sushi deluxe dinner which included 10 nigiri pieces and a california roll. I also ordered a piece of Toro since it's usually $10 per piece in Chicago or Los Angeles and thinking it was a good deal. I sat at the sushi bar and saw someone who looked like the owner discussing something with the sushi chef. I glanced down in the sink and saw they had put a piece of fish in water in the sick. The owner and sushi bar chef made eye contact with me because they noticed I saw the fish being thawed out. When my platter came out, I started with the sushi deluxe sushi and the rice fell apart on 9 out of 10 pieces! The rice was very cold and the nigiri was cut very, very, slim. I saved the Toro for last since that is my favorite piece of sushi. When I took a bite into the Toro, it was slushy and very cold. I knew right at that moment, the fish they were thawing out was my Toro. I suspect that not many people order Toro in this area and instead of telling me they couldnt sell the Toro, they served me the frozen Toro. The owner came by after and asked if everything was ok and I told him my issue with the frozen Toro and broken pieces of Nigiri. He asked if I wanted more sushi to mediate the issue but I had enough of that disgusting quality of fish they had and just couldnt wait to pay my bill and leave. I'm a business traveler and am here for work; I've had sushi all over north america and even a landlocked state like Kentucky has fresher sushi than Sushi Zento. Save yourself the diarrhea and do not eat sushi here. read more
