The decor is very modern. Unlike most Japanese restaurants I know, this one isn't closed for a couple of hours in afternoon. The menu has nice pictures which helps ordering sushi. Another very unique feature is that it offers multi-grain in place of white rice. I noticed that the rice is a bit more wet than I am used to. The sushi rolls come come out extememly fast!! I really enjoyed this place! Randomly went here with a friend (both our first times) and did not regret it. I actually went here without doing any research, because I was starving!! Since it was our first time, we didn't know there was an option to do "multigrain rice" substitute. Now, I've been to a lot of sushi places and this was my first time hearing about this! Was there for the first time last night and we had a very enjoyable time. We were pleasantly greeted and I liked the calm decor. Service was attentive and helpful. For starters, I was surprised with the edamame. It was not simply your regular edamame but flavorful with a nice sauce. Dragon roll was so good, among the best I've ever had. What a great discovery. Staff is wonderful, sushi fabulous. I always get vegetarian rolls, favorite being sweet potato, but the others are equally great, miso soup, shrimp tempura (light and perfectly fried),agedashi, seaweed and cucumber salad. I always get mixed rice on my rolls. My partner loves the Chareshi ( beautiful fresh fish), with mixed rice, miso soup and we share the salad, shrimp tempura and agedashi. The inside is cute and the service a bit slow and uninviting. We had the cucumber and seaweed salad. The cucumber was over cured to the point of mushy and the seaweed was the basic store bought green you can get anywhere. The grilled octopus was good but a bit over chared. This is the second time we've been in this restaurant. The first time was months ago and I do not have much of a comment because it was an order to take home, and I was also a bit sickly that time - bad tastebuds. Tonight we tried it again and this time, we have a table and sat down at the restaurant. We ordered food, staff were friendly enough (even if sometimes they'd take stuff out your table without a word, but it's fine with me personally, but some people may find that rude), and food was great. Before I forget to mention, we came in the restaurant around 9:20ish and they close at 10pm. Towards the end of our meal, they announced last call for orders. Around 940ish, that's when they started cleaning up by the sushi bar, which is one table across ours. I understand that it's important to keep the place clean, but PLEASE, some people (like myself) cannot stand the smell of bleach. I honestly almost passed out in my own bathroom while cleaning it, and it was overly diluted. I was hoping that they'd stop with the bleach when they realize that there are still customers in the restaurant who are actually eating but the cleaning kept going on and on. I just had to leave the dinner table without finishing my food and step outside to breathe. Waited until my company were done with their meals and bill's settled. Nice ambiance. Unfortunately, unlike every other Japanese restaurant , if you order the tempura udon, you will get exactly one small broccoli leaf, one tiny potato sliver , one tiny zucchini slicer and one tiny shrimp to go with the Large bowl of broth and a tiny serving of udon. Most Japanese restaurants give you a heaping plate of tempura because veggies are inexpensive, if this is what you think you're getting here, think again. The broth was flavorful, however the portions were minuscule..... I would definitely give them another try somewhere down the line due to the fact that they were attentive and the restaurant was very nice and clean on the inside, but this was very disappointing being that I am half Japanese and used to ordering the same thing everywhere and being shocked at how stingy they were with the actual udon bowl. read more

One of the most disappointing and overall bad food experiences I've had in a while. We ordered a dinner delivery that took exactly an hour an a half. We live about 15 minutes from the place. So naturally all the warm food was stone cold. The portions were ridiculously small and beyond overpriced for the quality. The $17 tuna poke was mostly marinated onion with a few pieces of tuna that did not taste very fresh. The $12 chicken skewers were 2 dried out pieces od about 2 oz of meat each. Oh they did throw in 2 pieces of raw broccoli. The curry and miso soup were decent but again literally stone cold. The $14 tuna roll consisted of exactly 6 pieces. So everyone involved was left hungry, unsatisfied and feeling ripped off. Well I certainly won't be recommending the place and steer clear of it in the future. read more

I usually like nigiri or sashimi but every once in a while I want some crazy roll and nobody does it quite like Sushiholic. My daughter and I have been coming here for years and they are consistent across the board. I like that there is a multigrain rice option. They are always busy, but there's never a wait. Not only does Sushiholic cater to meat lovers but they care for veggie lovers as well! I think that's a very important factor that all restaurants should carry. Picked up sushi here and the place was packed on a Friday night. The quality was excellent and you could just taste the freshness in the rolls. We got a few different variety rolls and some signature salmon cream cheese and spicy tuna. For the quality and the size the place is pretty reasonably priced. Well. Time passes. My last two Sushi-holic experiences (October and November of 2022), the staff wasn't very nice -- despite the take-out bill being $200+. I tipped the sushi chefs 20%, but... the people handling the transaction and food were NOT friendly. The sushi was ok. Masa's is a bit more expensive, but the people are a lot nicer. I married into a Japanese family so I understand the culture a little bit. My grandson and I were in for lunch December 26 at 12.30. Verdict. Sushiholic food is very good. I'm pleased with that. I have been a regular. But the service needs help. The waitresses and the two chefs were pretty dour. The waitresses were ok but seemed noticeably unhappy. I felt like we were a bother to them. The restaurant was maybe 30% full. I'd phone them to talk with the manager but doubt I could get through to the right person, hence this yelp. Maybe they were all having a bad day. Maybe somebody died. I don't know. But the place felt sad, and I might not be back for a while. Ladies, please smile and be cheerful! You can do it! Chefs, eye contact with a customer seated at your bar won't kill you. If you're all stressed out and unhappy find a way to recharge. As it was yesterday your restaurant lacked ambiance. My family and I were having a really hard time understanding why the bill was so high. My husband and I had a roll each as well as soup and salad; and my child had the teriyaki chicken and 3 soft drinks. The total was $90. Never, ever in all the Novato sushi restaurants we've been to has it been this much let alone for less food. I asked one lady why it was so much and she was very rude about it. She was loud and responded with " well you ate it all!" Aside from that we weren't checked up on or asked how everything was, we paid and she proceed to let me know she just charge me for spicy mayo . I really like this restaurant for their sashimi - super tasty fresh. The kitchen food is great too and it's the only place in Marin that offers the katsu curry and multi grain rice. The reason I'm only giving 3 stars is because the service is so weird. A woman, who identified herself as the owner, makes me feel so weird whenever I have an issue with anything. The first time was when my miso soup bowl looked dirty and I asked for another one. She immediately got defensive and said that she'd never give out anything dirty. So I told her that's ok but I'd like another one. So she started explaining how she runs her restaurant... and on and on. And at a different time, I ordered the Karaage which I expected to be battered and crispy, when I took a bite I knew I didn't like it. I asked my server to take it away and if it was ok to cancel the order since I was not going to eat it. Impromptu night out since we were in the area (and no food at home haha) I remembered Sushiholic was pretty good when it opened years ago but haven't been back since then. There were more people than I thought on a Wednesday night so that was a good sign. I was vibin' with the music too, so it was a nice atmosphere. I decided to get a dinner plate that had 8 nigiri pieces and shrimp tempura rolls. The restaurant offers multi-grain rice in place of white rice with no extra cost for my dish (there was a note on bottom of menu that said it could be an additional cost), so I took that offer because sometimes I try to be healthier -hence the word, "try". The dish came with yummy miso soup and seaweed salad. The nigiri pieces are bigger than other sushi places; longer and thicker fish pieces which were fresh. The multi-grain rice was not chewy or hard and seasoned well with the vinegar and wasabi. I was surprisingly starting to get full half way through. I enjoyed the dish whereas my boyfriend thought the rating should be 3 stars instead with his rice and unagi dish, saying it was just okay. The reason I didn't give 5 stars was it's REALLY PRICEY. My family likes this restaurant, but I am consistently underwhelmed. There are many better sushi places in the area, there's no reason in my mind to eat here. When I'm having sushi that I know isn't going to work out, I'll stick to ordered spicy tuna rolls, which are almost always good at any restaurant. I ordered the volcano roll (spicy tuna, jalapeño, tobiko), and I enjoyed it. I also ordered the Godzilla roll (soft-shell crab, eel, shrimp, snow crab, avocado, tobiko). It was ok but not great, and it also included pieces of raw carrot in it, which isn't something I want in a roll. My daughter's unagi-don was pretty good. I've tried items on the specials list before and always been disappointed. I was even disappointed in their udon soup, it was lacking flavor. read more

I enjoyed my lunch meal at Suchiholic. The weather was agreeable to sit outside. This is not always true as the location faces west into the sun. The patio and parking lot radiate heat and it's not pleasant to enjoy the quality food when it's hot. There is no patio, just a couple of tables outside the door. The view is of the parking lot and could be more private. I wanted to sit inside but it was very loud, and dark on the beautiful day I ate at Sushiholic. That being said the food is top quality. One walks in the door and adds their name to the list. I immediately basked in the sunshine and quiet of the day. I didn't have a lot of time so I immediately ordered and asked for the check. My lunch special for $14. was terrific, soup, rice, salad and two sides. The teriyaki salmon was prepared nicely and was a generous portion. My ticket out the door was $19. for lunch. read more

Believe it or not, Sushiholic was the first place I ever had Sushi. I was so hesitant about raw fish, had no idea what to expect, and at 20 years old I had finally found the nerve to just try it! My friend took me here because she raved about it and she lived in Novato. 10 years later, I still love coming here! I'm rather surprised by the low rating of this place. This is definitely my absolute favorite Japanese restaurant in Marin, and generally my family's go-to place following a visit to Costco. If you're here near lunch-time, the lunch specials are absolutely amazing. For $10, you get your choice of two items. I generally go with the tempura and one of the proteins, such as the salmon or teriyaki beef. Salmon: The salmon here is tender, juicy, and flavorful. It may be a tad overcooked compared to Western preparation of salmon, but it complements the teriyaki well. Teriyaki Beef: This is a hit and miss for me. Sometimes, the beef is super tender and cooked to a pleasant medium-well. I've had a few experiences where the meat was a tad overcooked or tendon-y, but it's been a great and safe choice most of the time. Tempura: I'm always surprised that they give 2 pieces of tempura shrimp with this. Although it is sometimes overly battered, it's almost always the best tempura I've had in Marin. Sushi: Hot Mama: I was a tad disappointed by this. I was hoping for more flavor from the salmon and more of a spicy kick, but there wasn't one. Deep fried Hamachi and Jalapeno roll: This one was better, although small in portion. Their was more flavor in this combination, although once again I was hoping for more of a spicy kick. Overall, the Japanese food at Sushiholic is fantastic, especially for the lunch specials. I recommend getting THE VEGGIE DRAGON or VEGGIE TEMPURA ROLL all with multigrain rice. I swear the mg rice gives it an umph of nuttiness that enhances the roll. Overall. Here are my go-to's depending on what I'm feeling!! 1. Bentos are always good and the new set up and plating make the presentation very bueno. *fyi tempura is super crunchy 2. Chefs special aka dragon roll, GODZILLA, and PASSION roll are my all time faves when I'm craving a saucy warm cooked/raw type roll. Super good, won't regret getting it! 3. Sashimi and nigiri are always fresh! Ask for the special if you're tryna get the ultimatum of freshness. Oh right, almost forgot! Tuna avocado salad and poki salad are freakin BOMB!! Anyhow my point is, this place hits the spot! All the servers are charismatic and funny. First time visiting SushiHolic, and I love it! From the minute you step into the interior you feel you're not in a large outdoor mall anymore. The place is beautifully decorated, with comfortable tables and a counter at the sushi-bar where you can eat and watch the magic happen. We were greeted and seated promptly, and given time to review the extensive menu. There are many items I haven't seen in other Japanese/sushi restaurants, so it did take a few minutes to decide. We ordered a nice variety of items, including; the sashimi salmon lunch (comes with salad and miso soup); the veggie tempura appetizer; a California roll; an Oshinko sampler (assorted Japanese pickles); and a vegetable special roll with mixed vegetables. I was asked if I wanted white rice or multi-grain rice for the roll, and I started with white rice, but the waitress kindly brought me a sample of the multi-grain rice which I really liked for its hearty texture. So I switched the white rice out, and am glad I did. If you haven't tried the multi-grain rice, ask for a sample - you may be surprised! (My lunch mate stuck with white rice - oh well!). The food came in a timely manner, and we were quickly surrounded by serving plates and smaller dinner plates. The food was very tasty, and beautifully presented. The Japanese assorted pickles were artistically beautiful as well, both in their colors and textures. I recognized carrot slivers (slightly spicy); cucumber slices and thick slices of a root vegetable, which I want to guess was a radish (daikon?). The fourth vegetable I would guess onion, it was very sweet though. All were delicious, and new to me; however, for the price ($9) and the portion size, I wouldn't order again. Still, worth a one-time try! The tempura was amazing. Light, crisp batter, and a wonderful variety of vegetables. Sounds silly, but I never find this many types of vegetables in one serving of tempura! Usually they stack the deck with starchy yams, or zucchini sticks or some other main vegetable, but this tempura had SEVEN vegetables! There were eggplant, asparagus (which I first mistook for green beans, as they were so thin!), carrot, sweet potato, squash, broccoli, and a vegetable I had to inquire about - calabash. The waitress described it as small, green skinned (which looked purple after cooking) and pumpkin like. It is a gourd, but had semi-firm and tasty flesh I couldn't place. Another new experience for me! All were delicious and plentiful, definitely a re-order on my next visit. The California roll was unremarkable, but good, and the sashimi salmon was not as - mmm, buttery - in texture as other salmons have been elsewhere. Not a re-order for the price. The vegetable roll (one of many veggie rolls offered) was delicious, with a nice variety of vegetables in a dark brownish-purple rice wrap. A nice change indeed. Overall, a very good meal, and with a couple of items we enjoyed but wouldn't re-order, there are many other items we can try next time! Service was excellent, both attentive and friendly, never rushing us and nice interactions with the 3 year old and 9 month old. If you're considering ordering from this restaurant, you should know that they add a "tip" fee into your total with tax BEFORE calculating any additional tip you give them. Looking past that, I find myself always disappointed in the quality of their sushi in contrast to the pricing. The quality of the fish seems decent, but unless you're ordering the sashimi, anything that involves the making of sushi is done poorly with little real skill. The pieces of nigiri have an excessive scoop of wasabi with no soy sauce inside that burn up your mouth unless you drench it in soy sauce. The specialty rolls have dry overcooked fish. The unagi always has a soggy texture. It's not terrible food, but considering how pricey this place is, you'd be much better off at Masa Sushi where everything is made by a real sushi chef. I doubt the "chefs" here behind their counter have had any extensive apprenticeship or training. read more

This place just didn't do it for me. I came here on a business lunch. Most lunch places understand that lunchtime on weekdays should be quick. Get em in, get em out. Not this place. We were seated and our order was taken almost immediately. The gentlemen seated next to us had their orders taken right before us. They received their sushi in about 10-15 minutes. A few minutes later, my friend received hers. We had agreed to share our choices, so I have a few of her rolls. Drank all of my water. No one offered to refill it. We had to ask for refills finally, and reminded the server that we needed my order. It finally came, 20 minutes after the first dish. By this point, the people who were seated around us had cleared out, but we were still there. If this sushi were to die for, this would have been okay. However it was pretty standard fare. Waiting 40 minutes for one order of sushi rolls is just unacceptable. Two stars for the beautiful decor, but I'd rather buy pre-packaged sushi from Safeway than come here again. read more
