The fish wasn't very fresh, the rolls were just bland wads of rice and the "fresh" salmon nigiri was partially cooked (like someone accidentally blanched it for 3 seconds). The color of the salmon was an odd pale orange and tasted funny. Consider paying $0.50-$1 more per plate going somewhere else. read more

The cooked food on the menu was much better in terms of quality and portion size. I myself ordered the Chicken Curry. It was kind of a miss because the sauce was bland and not representative of curry at all, but at the same time it wasn't repulsive either. Other members at my table ordered more authentic Chinese dishes such as the Twice Cooked Pork and the Fuqi Feipian (which still had a foul taste). I consider myself a relatively well traveled sushi eater and have eaten sushi all over the country mostly on the west coast. I'm not picky and typically enjoy most dining experiences. This was by far the worst sushi experience I've had. My wife and I went on a Monday night. We immediately noticed the table and menu were dirty. The sushi selection was limited compared to other restaurants and we had trouble selecting. Our waitress actually made our sushi which was poorly made, loosely rolled, and didn't taste very fresh. Strangely, the sushi chef appeared from the back and started working behind the sushi bar after we had sampled our food and we're ready to give up on the place. I'm not sure if this was an off night for them, but we felt like Gordon Ramsey or Jon Taffer were going to walk in and start yelling at people because it sure needed it. I have been here three times now. I believe SushiKo is the best sushi in the area by a fair margin. The owner is also the sushi chef, and he is passionate about his product. He'll be happy to inform on his process of driving to Chicago several times a week to hand select his seafood. He'll also point out that he is there almost 7 days a week, and trusts no one else to do his work. Clearly he is passionate. Prices are moderate, but worth it consider the step up from the competition that you get here. This place stands well above some other more expensive options in the area (Novu, Sushigawa, Hokkaido, etc). Hokkaido is also very good sushi, and is all-you-can-eat if you're looking for a marathon meal - but it cannot top SushiKO quality. read more

I DO NOT recommend this restraunt for newbies or seasoned sushi gurus. My son and I tried Sushi Ko this past Wednesday for the first time... and it will be the ONLY time. We ordered by delivery, 5 different rolls to try a variety and see what we liked (the answer is nothing!). The styrofoam boxes were not labeled at all. Three of them looked almost the same and never having been there, it would have been nice to know WHAT we were eating. Of course it might also have been that they were all messy and falling apart. Two of the rolls were too big to even fit in your mouth. Worst of all both of our rolls that included Tempura WERE BURNT! We added "special directions" for two of the rolls and neither one was actually done, and those "directions" included choices which increased the price! So we ended up with Unlabeled food, Soggy, Messy and Burnt. They totally ignored our instructions and took an hour and a half to deliver that whole bag of crap which turned out to be a nightmare! Love, love, love this place. There's a handful of sushi places in town, and really I like all of them. But this is my favorite. Truly everything is "good", but some things are exceptional (in my opinion). Mexican Roll and Spicy Tuna are my personal favs. I don't even need to look at the menu. I honestly don't know why this place doesn't get more crowded, other than it's tucked back in the corner of a shopping center without any curb visibility to University... Just came from living in Los Angeles so I've had my fair share of sushi, and while this place isn't the greatest, it definitely is good. We had a party of 9 and they seated us quickly and the waiters had no problem taking care of us while we waited for our stragglers to arrive. There was edamame on the table for us to snack on too. Very diverse menu with lots of options. You can pretty much pick your price range. Sushi rolls range from about 4.99-12.99 depending on what you choose and they have many "order by the piece" options as well. I ordered 3 orders of pan fried pork pot stickers (which were a little chewy but tasty) for the group to share, a soda, 2 pieces of tuna sushi and a Scorpion roll and my bill was less than $25 I believe. I couldn't even finish the scorpion roll I was so stuffed! All in all, the service was a little slow for my huge group, but that's was to be expected. The prices were good, the interior looked nice, and I had a good time. It's no super gourmet LA sushi boutique, but definitely a good haul for your wallet. read more

This place is on the left side of Nick & Willy's pizza! I only say this because it was a little impossible to find with the restaurant being in the corner and all. Anyway, I am really impressed by this place; the service was great as my glass was never even HALF empty! I ordered the bok choy and shiitake mushrooms dish which came with a little bowl of rice. The sauce that accompanied the vegetables was perfect. My partner order the vegetable sushi combo. Everything was refreshing, there was also complimentary edamame which is always a plus! Went here with co-workers for lunch today. Very nice atmosphere and good wait staff. First off, I am not a big sushi fan. I don't mind it, but it has never been something that I would go out of my way for. This place was highly recommended by a guy I work with that really knows authentic Chinese food. We went for the sushi, and it was delicious. This place has swayed me towards going back, just for the sushi. It was fresh, well prepared, with a good balance of flavors. I think what I love most about this place is the owners. They are the sweetest people. They genuinely appreciate their customers and they always go above and beyond. I commented how amazing the tea was (And it is one of the few places I prefer the tea unsweetened) and the owner was sweet to give me a small bit of the dried ingredients to brew at home. They make it themselves. That is what quality tastes like people. The Sushi Chef puts love into every roll, and the flavor is fantastic. You can truly tell he is a master at what he does, and he makes each roll as a gift to his patrons. It's not just a job for them, this is their life and livelihood. And they truly respect those who come to eat. The sushi is TOP NOTCH. I have never once had a bad roll. Every time I try something new, it is bursting with flavor, fresh, and neat. This is by far the BEST sushi place in Peoria! I love the Mexican roll and the smoked salmon roll. The man who makes the sushi is always a joy to be around and he is always super friendly. He makes everyone feel at home and he's very funny as well. Last time my husband and I went, he gave us free sake because there was a wait for the sushi since they were pretty busy. I also really love the atmosphere. The miso soup, sashimi, and tofu is also amazing!!! This place is super reasonable, clean, and delicious. I would hate to see them ever close their doors. My favorite sushi in Peoria, and I am biased cause I've been there many many times, however I've had all the sushi places in Peoria and this one is my favorite. The head sushi chef/owner is the nicest dude in the world. Goes table to table to chat, obviously it's not much of a conversation because a language barrier but thoughtful none the less. The person who was serving my family was a little, awkward. My mother ordered the vegi fried rice and he proceeded to ask, "Are you on a diet?". She wasn't really offended, but it put me off a little bit for sure. As far as the food goes, I got a couple of different rolls of sushi. Miso soup does not come with sushi (which I think is a crime!). I ordered miso as an extra, and it was nothing too great. I make my own miso at home, so if I order it as an extra at a restaurant, I expect it to be of better quality. Maybe I'm picky, but the ingredients weren't all that great, almost like the stuff in instant miso. They serve the larger sushi rolls, which I always find a little awkward to eat. My Alaska rolls fell apart when I tried to pick them up in any manner. The taste was good, but I still prefer more smaller rolls to less larger rolls. The plus is there is a very large selection, many unique choices. It's a good place, but I don't know if it qualifies as "fine cuisine" like it advertises. They had some pop music playing (Bieber, Swift, Brunno Mars, etc.), which gave it more of casual feeling. It's good, but there are other places I'd prefer. read more

If you want any kind of oriental food with a serene atmosphere, this should be your first choice. I have had both Chinese and Japanese selections from their menu and the food is always hot, excellent quality (even their crab rangoon is exquisite), and presented beautifully. The staff is very respectful and will give you your space. The menu is completely in English with lots of pictures and the items are very affordable, with the Sushi being a little more pricey than your average entree (but reasonably priced for Sushi!). Excellent sushi and Chinese food! I mostly order sushi, and I think its one of the top places in Peoria - so I rate this one 5 stars for sushi. They have a big menu, so there is something for everyone. My favorite appetizer is the Agedashi Tofu (spelling?), and the big bottles of Japanese beer are always nice. The downside is the terrible service. The staff is always very friendly, but not very attentive to their tables. Mediocre would be too kind, abysmal would be too harsh. The tables are sticky, and the place smells like the pizza joint next door(not their fault). I like this Chinese restaurant very much, although its name is more Japanese. It is one of the few Chinese restaurants in Peoria which serves the genuine Chinese dishes. The boss is very nice and friendly. I like the environment also. I always try the Chinese food menu, like Mapo Toufu, Fuqi Feipian, Shuizhu Yu, etc. I have never really tried their Sushi, which looks good though. Highly recommend it. read more
