We came here after doing some shopping at Roger Dunn and Ross. The food court wasn't too crowded and I wanted something light so I went to SushiMan and ordered a Spicy Ahi Donburi all salad. We got our order really quick (it probably took no more than 3 minutes). Once I opened up the container, I noticed that they didn't give much lettuce or fish for $14, especially since it's previously frozen and not fresh. If I could rate it a 0, I would. Located in pearl highlands food court, my friend bought the ahi roll and some other sushi to fit in a little bento take out tray. After he ate the ahi roll, his stomach felt funny and he started to throw up because the fish was bad. I went to the counter to return the sushi, but she said the other sushi isn't fish (but how you eat the rest of it if you're already throwing up?) And she said "not fair, no refund, those others aren't fish" even when I was returning it all to her. That is super bad customer service. Not ever eating here again. They don't serve fresh fish here because when I bought a while back, it didn't taste fresh either, and because she was rude and didn't refund for something my friend got sick from and we returned most of it without even getting a partial refund, we will not buy from them again. Awesome find here at SushiMan Pearl Highlands! My wife's favorite -- matter fact, ONLY THING she orders from SushiMan is the Crunchy Don. Once upon a time, that could only be found at the Hawaii Kai location, but guess not anymore! Super happy to see this spot serve the Crunchy Don as well. It was probably on their menu for years, but the Hawaii Kai SushiMan said they're the only ones who make it, so we didn't even bother to check Pearl City. The Crunchy Don - Sushi rice with a light sprinkle of furikake, topped with crispy/crunchy fried vegetable tempura cut into bite size pieces, layered with sweet unagi sauce and finished with spicy ahi and green onions. Delicious and filling! The aunties that work here are so friendly and patient. There have been a few times we were indecisive, and they were always happy to answer any questions and didn't seem bothered or rushed for us to order. Love that! I also appreciate that they don't nickel and dime and charge for wasabi and ginger. I think that's beyond unreasonable for places that sell sushi and don't even give you one for free. Everyone in Hawaii knows of at least one SushiMan store and in the back of our minds we probably remember coming here or seeing it in passing growing up. It's a small, reliable place to get some simple, fair priced sushi. This location specifically is a great spot for a snack or cheap meal when you're in the area. Since it's in a food court, it won't be too hard to find a place to sit and enjoy, or if you're a worker, the aunties in the back got quick hands to get you in and out so you can maximize your lunch break. Although, you may have a bit of a wait during peak lunch/dinner times. Honestly, it's not someplace you come for a date, but it's also not a bad place to come. I can imagine that this local business stays alive because of their consistent delivery of decent priced sushi, and convenient locations. What more can you ask for? We always need those places that are not too expensive, not too questionably cheap, but just right (especially when it comes to raw fish!). read more

She didn't rush hubby to order, but patiently waited & politely answered our questions. After he ordered, the wait time was just a few minutes. It was just after 11AM so the lunch crowd hadn't hit yet. He ordered miso soup, bento #4 for $10.99, & an order of gyoza. Miso soup They used a 12 oz cup. At first I thought they didn't fill it up all the way but when we got home. I measured it & it was exactly 1 cup/8 oz. It still looked weird but hubby enjoyed the soup & said it had good flavor. The only thing he noticed was they put a little too much seaweed in it. Gyoza 5 pieces of fried gyoza. I snuck a piece & thought it was good. He thought so, too Bento #4 This bento comes with 3 shrimp tempura, 1 vegetable tempura, rice, green salad with 1 grape tomato & a piece of daikon. Hubby thought the bento tasted ok but has had better. He was not impressed. Shrimp was thin & tasted old, the tempura batter was pretty thick. Salad was good. Vegetable tempura ok, it was a little hard to eat. I tasted the rice & it was good. It was seasoned like they do sushi rice & sprinkled with furikake. Overall, ok place to eat at. Take out lunches are getting more and more pricey these days....So depending on what type of roll you order, 2 rolls will cost about 6 to 7 dollars. Thats a deal to me. My favorite go to rolls are the shrimp tempura roll and the spicy vegetable roll. Yummy and perfect. The service varies as the food court gets pretty busy during lunch and dinner hours but the wait is worth it. Ambiance is a food court atmosphere. People come and go. There are lots of tables and seating and the bathroom is updated and clean. A plus too is that if you want something other than sushi there are other food vendors to choose from. Usually I get the Dynamite but figured I'm not supposed to have too much seafood at this time, so I settled for a spicy ahi roll and an Arizona green tea. Even though my order was small, it came out in the order it was received. Chairs inside the food court were all taken during lunch hours but we scored a table outdoors. I figured outta all the choices, Sushi Man was the best pick...wrong...I ordered the Red Dragon which is a California Maki with some Spicy Ahi on top. When I got it, it looked nothing like the picture and instead, looked like frozen ahi mush or raw meatballs or canned spicy cat food. The flavor was ok, but only cause I drowned it with shoyu. The texture of the frozen mush pretty much killed it for me. The staff was nice and quick. There are a lot of tables and chairs to eat on. The parking lot is shared by other establishments. Newly renovated you'll find new and spacious seating with new bathrooms as well as new food eateries. After getting Sushi from Sushi Man, you can get Gelato as well!! (SO sad they took DQ away tho) ANYWAYS back to Sushi Man. Now located in the back right corner of the food court, was super interested in ordering here again. Their food is always tasty and good. Prices kind of average with the other sushi joints as well. When we ordered today (Weekday afternoon) in particular, there was 1 family in front of me and 3 people behind us. All of our food came out within 10 minutes. Ordered Kid Pack B (Cone Sushi, 6 assorted small bite rolls, and 3 piece tiny spam musubis which is like the size of one regular musubi, 2 California maki), set of Egg nigiri comes with 3 pieces, and rdered vegetable tempura roll however they gave shrimp tempura roll (guess she heard me wrong). Usually I always get some sort of ahi or spicy tuna but wasnt feeling it today. Like before, all the food was delicious and fresh. No complaints there. However, their customer service needs a little help at times. No greeting upon nearing. When one person was done ordering, the lady would disappear for at least a couple minutes with no acknowledgement and I noticed that as we sat and ate our food. At least acknowledge your customers you'll be with them if you have to help your kitchen in the back. Calling out the food orders she was excellent though. This place is way better than Kozo Sushi and Kuru Kuru Sushi. The food portions are larger and it tastes better. The lady at the counter is very friendly and takes your order promptly. Your food is also ready in a Jiffy. I drive out of my way, past Kozo Sushi, to grab my food from this place. As you can see from the picture, the portions are big. When I want to get fast take out sushi, this is the place I go. It used to be Kuru Kuru but they've strayed too far away from their roots (huge price increases). read more

This is my 1st time back to the newly renovated now Highlands Marketplace since they closed for renovations. Only 5 vendors currently open 2 are original tenants Sushiman and L&G, 3 new tenants Jersey Mike's, Il Gelato and Teaspresso Bar. More are opening soon or still under renovations. I decided to go to Sushiman since this was one of my fav vendors other then Thai b4 they closed for renos. Bcuz there are only a few food vendors open right now they are all busy and operating on the same amount of employees b4 the renos so during peak hrs be prepared to wait. Now accepting credit cards. Now in the back pass the restrooms. Same good tasting menu. I ended up ordering the California roll and a Sushiman A which is a bento w spicy poke and teriyaki chicken. Ate here this evening (3.10.2020). I was looking for something light, decently priced, and good tasting. Decided on Sushiman because it's been a while since I've had it. There was just one customer in front of me at the time, so I got to place my order pretty quickly. The lady at the register was very helpful in naming the ingredients in a few rolls that I had questions about, although she spoke very softly. I decided on the Dynamite Maki. There are some sushi places that take forever to make your food, but I got my order in about 5 minutes, which was great. The roll with tax came out to just under $10.50 which was not bad considering the shrimp and the amount of Ahi in that roll. This choice worked out pretty well when it came to finding something light, good tasting, and decently prices. The one con that I have though is that I feel that the drinks are pretty over priced. I should have taken a picture. But the couple that I remember from looking at the menu was Arizona Green Teas for $1.99 before tax! And a can of Itoen Oi Ocha for $1.5. That one I could not believe because the cans are certainly not expensive wholesale, and they don't even taste as good as the bottles. Anyway, still good sushi, I can just get drinks elsewhere. read more

I love sushi but this place is not it! The lady who works there had a passive-aggressive attitude and seemed like she was in a rush I guess because she was working by herself (cashier and was making the food) I let it slide because I was excited to get sushi. I only ordered two things which was the ahi nigiri (3pc set) and the crunchy maki. I was very disappointed with the ahi nigiri! When I got home it was like a dark red, almost black color and looked all dried up and sad which was really gross. I ended up just throwing it away. The crunchy maki was average. Inside the roll was literally JUST cucumber which made it taste kind of plain. On top of the roll was spicy ahi, spicy sauce, and broken up pieces of kakiage (fried vegetable tempura). If I wanted something like this then I should've just gone to kozo sushi thats up the road from sushi man and order a spicy kakiage don and add spicy ahi to it. Also the roll itself was very messy and fell apart easily when I was eating it. Two suggestions: One, if you're stressed out working by yourself/alone and it shows through your food and customer service then hire more people!!! Post an ad or something and get the word out there! Two, you should have what is inside each roll (maki mono) somewhere posted up or in the printed paper menu like how kozo sushi (up the road from sushi man) or the sushi spot (in aiea) does so that next time I know what is exactly inside each roll and avoid ordering something that literally only had one ingredient inside! I was so surprised how good their bento was! As a spicy ahi fanatic, SushiMan in Highlands Marketplace is probably my favorite!!!! I ordered half spicy ahi and half teriyaki chicken, their chicken is super flavorful and juicy. It also came with rice & side salad, portions were very friendly. I also got their miso-soup... although it was a little bland, the side portion was pretty big. I added a little shoyu to it and it tasted just fine. I'm loving the new renovation to Highlands Marketplace, it's way cleaner and nicer inside. I definitely recommend SushiMan if you're in the area, their food is delicious. Hands Rolls are my favorite item to order from fast food sushi. Whenever I'm craving for sushi, I like to come to Sushiman, than other places. I really enjoy their shrimp tempura hand roll. They raise their prices over the years, but it's still fresh to cook & always crispy! This particular Sushi Man, is located in the food court in the Pearl City Shopping Center where Ross, BWW and the movie theater is at. They also have Chinese food, Curry, L&L Drive Inn & more. I came here early morning, around 9:30ish & surprisingly they were the only open. Along with L&L Drive Inn. I give this a star, bc there are people who actually come here to eat breakfast. Finished our weekly Sams shopping and it was crazier than ever because of the potential hurricane. Decided to treat ourselves with lunch upstairs. The three of us decided to get our lunch from different places. Being that I am on a special diet, I decided to go to SushiMan. Service .... what service? I ordered, young kid asked me if I wanted to pay debit or credit and just gave me my receipt. When he called my ordered, he just pushed my order to me. I was waiting for a thank you or even a here you go (which is my pet peeve), but didn't even get that. Food was okay. Nori was tough to eat...
