If you're looking to #SUPPORTLOCAL and get some good food after your trip to Daiso or grocery shopping in DonQ this is your spot! I first came to Damo since my friend worked here and this was the first place I ever tried poke nachos. When Daiso opened up I've been coming to this shopping center a lot more often and no brainer to choose to eat here. At first, I would get only the poke nachos and not even pay attention to the rolls. Now, that I've tried more from the menu, I've definitely been missing out all this time! First off, this is one of the only places in the shopping center with tables to sit and eat in A/C. Next, along with the poke nachos all the food I've tried hits the spot. I know prices in Hawaii are skyrocketing but you gotta admit, these sets are pretty fair for what you pay. Don't let the menu fool you! When you buy a roll it comes with miso soup and small side salad for under $15, and don't forget, you're supporting local! Sometimes for variety I like to order their spicy ahi won tons or shumai on the side, and I always have leftovers. The service here also fast and convenient. You can call ahead so your order is ready when you arrive, but if you walk-in you only have to wait 5 maybe 10 minutes depending on how many people are in front of you. Even when it's peak lunch time I don't even feel like I'm waiting long. Whenever I'm in the area, I always get a craving to come here and get my sushi fix and you should too!

Gritty and Stringy Poke! Sunday July 2, 2023

Sunday July 2, 2023 First time, coming here as Poke on the Run down the street is closed on Sunday. I hate to give a low star rating. But, I like to give a honest review. Miso Poke Nachos: $18.95!! Fish was gritty texture and stringy! Gritty texture from being frozen too long and not being FRESH! ! Very stringy as I picked up a piece of fish and 2 pieces of fish was hanging from the sugi string. I should've taken a picture as that was the first time I ever saw that in my life! No miso taste at all. Chips was soggy as I tried one as I was walking out the front door. Bonito shavings didn't make it any better and it just made the price higher. Shoyu Ahi Poke Bowl: A very little amount of fish and so much more rice than fish! Lol. Spicy Ahi Tempura: Was okay. Plus, was that it came with a miso soup. I am so very sorry, that we won't be trying this place again. It doesn't have to be auction fresh from sea to table. But, the fish should be of at least decent quality.

Stopped by to get sushi for dinner. While not totally bad, not the best either. Everyone got sushi, but I opted for a salad which was underwhelming. I did not like the ends of the romaine bunches that were included (sorry tossed out). The salad was topped with a spoonful of spicy ahi poke & mayo imitation crab, 3 whole baby carrots, 2 halves of a mini bell pepper, 3 grape tomatoes. It did included 2 slices each of ahi & salmon sashimi. I opted to save my fish to eat with rice tomorrow. I did enjoy the miso dressing. I was told the sushi all tasted very similar. Don't come hungry because the rolls were more like 1/2 rolls. The sushi did come with (just) romaine salad & a cup of miso soup. Also the unagi bowl (see white styrofoam in pics) was less than 1/2 full of lightly "packed" rice so don't count on the sample portion sizes displayed.

We placed our order through Grubhub, our first time. Gotta say, it came a little earlier than the time stated. But that's another review for Grubhub, great! We ordered a variety of different items. We had Spicy Ahi Poke, Unagi-Don, Garlic Salmon Roll, Jins Roll, and Dragon Roll. This is a very easy review because everything was top notch tasty and well prepared. I was really impressed and happy. Now we have a new to go to place around the area. Taste quality is excellent! But be prepared if you're hungry the portions are a bit on the smaller side.

    Nigiri Sushi. Wow! Very good!

My mom and I on our way to shopping nearby neighborhood store when I peaked into their shop! After our shopping very hungry lunchtime. We asked if we can dine in and the cozy restaurant had table and chairs like we're in a living room. Very comfortable casual sushi restaurant. I'm a bit particular in eating sushi and I finally found one close to the authentic nigiri sushi pictured with my review! My son once worked for omakase Chef's choice sushi for years therefore our choices for eating sushi restaurant I'm very particular eating sushi but we have found a delicious sushi eatery that we're going back even though it's drive from my home.

Damo is my daughter's favorite. That says a lot bc she eats a lot of rolls and keeps a sushi spreadsheet for the island. I have to say, everything I have ever tried here tastes fresh. Prices have gone up recently but that is pretty much the norm. We recently ordered a catering tray and that turned out well. Also, I always appreciate the music at Damo and hope they do not change.

First time trying this place. It was very small inside, not much seating to dine in. The prices were a little high, but the quality of fish was good. We got our food pretty fast. We tried the spicy ahi poke bowl, a natto hand roll and the hawaii set. The fish was fresh and delicious. The natto hand roll had cucumber inside and it complimented the natto very well. Although I don't think I'd come back here, I would recommend it if your in that area looking for sushi.

    Retro and homelike decor.

Haven't been here in a while so I wanted to try it again. Seems prices have skyrocketed since I last came. I got the Aloha Set which was mostly spicy tuna and imitation crab variations at $18.95 for 8 pieces. Pre-covid it was only $12.95. It tasted ok but was annoyed the that the nori was very chewy instead instead of crunchy. Quality down and prices up. Not a good combo.

    Easy to miss location!

Since I was in the area and craving Poke, I decided to drop by Damo Sushi. I didn't expect to walk into a cosy looking place. Heck it felt like I was visiting someone's home. They had 25% off poke bowls, salad, and nachos. So I decided to get some Spicy Ahi Nachos and green tea. The bill came out to $16. The poke nachos tasted pretty good. I experience friendly customer service and I got my food ASAP. Not a bad place to check out.

The sushi is good but they raised the prices and don't turn on their AC so it's hot and muggy inside.. I had to go eat my food in the car.. not impressed

We got smoked out and it got bad to the point where my eyes were getting watery. Not sure if this happens all the time at this spot- this was my first time. The service was okay. We waited over 10 minutes to get cups of water and to put in our order. I totally get that they were short handed which also explains why it took almost 40 minutes for us to be served. Ordered the Negi-Hamachi to try something different. Hamachi is my favorite fish served sashimi style so I decided to switch it up and order the Negi-Hamachi which is finely chopped, yellow-tail with green onion and wasabi over sushi rice served with tsukemono and miso soup. I was super happy with this because the Hamachi was delicious and surprisingly, I did not feel bloated or too full afterwards.

I've seen the sunset platter prices go up and up and UP and finally up to $85 now; it's incredible how expensive everything is getting. That being said, the other day was our chance to go since my wife decided to go with friends there. I didn't really know what to expect. Honestly most places just get more expensive and worse and worse so I wasn't expecting much. When I got there, I found the service to be good and the prices pretty reasonable. The lunch/dinner special is a nice value and that's what I got. For $25, you get to choose from a selection of different items. I think their beer is also really reasonable - I think it was $8 for a 20oz Asahi which tasted GREAT!!!!! Now on to the food. I took a few bites and it took me back to when they were at Ward ave..... it tasted exactly the same! Not many places can do that. I won't say the portions were really big but it was a reasonable serving size. Everything tasted as it should and everyone had a good time. I am definitely coming back - the old school taste is great and the prices reasonable.

Okay, I can live with that. It wasn't too crowded this time so it was just a short wait but my gf and the kids all split and went to the restroom and I kept seeing notifications that all parties must be present to be seated. I started to stress that we would lose our place but I guess there's a few minutes leeway and they came back from the restroom right when I got the table ready notification. Anyway, who designed their damn seats? They should be forced to sit in them for a few hours and see how the back of their thighs feel with that big lip on the front edge of the seat, unless you have natural extra padding on your backside which I do not, these seats are very uncomfortable! This had to be the worst part of the visit. Probably on purpose so customers don't stay too long. Well, we sit down and there's only one menu to look at and the three girls are sitting across from us are looking at it and taking forever to decide what they want. In the meantime, I have to use my phone to scan another QR code to connect to the website where you order your food. I give my phone to my gf since she's sitting closer to the scan code and she has trouble getting into the site. I take my phone back and have to stretch across her and I get the ordering form up & give my phone back to her as she's asking the kids what they want. Then she starts asking me what I want before I even have a chance to look at the menu the kids are hogging. Screw it, I can see the pictures upside down and I'm not that hungry to begin with so I say I want natto and get the usual eww, gross from my gf. I'll have an unagi too. More eww! Yeah, I'm enjoying this outing so much! They should put at least two menus at eat table. The kids are still picking what they want so she places an initial order. Gotta admit the food comes fast on their little train delivery system. Some portions are very small, the maguro and other sushi have shrunk over the years as is the case with many dishes in most restaurants anymore. Some are a decent size such as the tempura and edamame. The food appears well prepared and tastes fine. Service was okay, but it is a self serve kind of place for the most part anyway. The wait help did make sure our drinks were good and they were quick to bring the tab when we were done. Fast food sushi so there was no dilly dallying there. All in all, I was not thrilled and would not pick Genki as my first choice of eating places in Pearl Ridge, not because of the food itself but just because of the hassle and uncomfortable seats.
