Nice local place for ice cream. They've many nut free and gluten free options. Vegan flavors were sparse during our visit:

Yes, things have changed where customers need to call & order - then pay over the phone. Or, you can order & pay online. Approaching the lot there's a HUGE banner with the phone number making it easy. I parked, called in my order. The person who answered and took the order couldn't have been nicer and explained the procedure... which seemed so very strange. But again, I had a craving... nothing was going to get in my way : - ))) I was asked to wait 10 minutes and then approach the counter area, staying 6 ft back ( luckily it's marked). Then, a staff member will ask my name and put my order on the counter.... All packed with a receipt stapled to the bag. No problem.... I did as told and presto! there it was. I managed a Thank you before he shut the wimdow, grabbed the bag and proceeded back to my car. Opening the bag I noticed how well my craving was packaged.... A spoon and plenty of napkins added. Time to eat! I chose the simple flavor Danish Almond Cream which they've been making like forever.... The ice cream itself was absolutely delicious. The almonds seemed to be a bit chunkier than usual.... During this pandemic I've learned that my dentist's office unfortunately is closed... So being extra careful bc stillI chomped.on the nutmeats. All good! Okay, so the experience has changed ... And sometimes new ways take some getting used to... BUT, I was there to satisfy my craving. And this visit did just that!

Didn't complain because it was free but like, still a let down. I fear that Hodgies has changed their ingredients recently because to me the quality is noticeably different and lower. I am not fully sure about how the ownership between the locations is, but at the Amesbury location I am seeing the same problem. We bought a gallon of the strawberry ice cream and it was way too aerated. Had no substance or flavor and the texture was awful. Extremely disappointed as this has been my favorite icecream place since I was a kid. Tourists might not notice the difference, but us locals do.

And somehow they had a full menu of flavors. I'm glad they allow samples. The flavor was good but the texture was not very creamy. Additionally not sure if it's the product or how my scooped my ice cream but every attempt to eat I dropped more ice cream (the first chunk was during the pass off) and subsequent dropage. I went to get a cup because this cost me $9 without tip! Yikes. And while i never mind paying for great eats- this was really only good. The flavors got lost cause i did do 2 scoops. I am shocked at how high the price to portion ratio, really. The strawberry was good, the coffee Oreo was kinda meh. Oh, they need to place a cover on those brownies on the top counter over the ice cream. Literally its mouth height and everyone including myself was talking into them ordering. Yikes. If I did return it would be for one scoop and really has to be something unique. There are ice cream shoppes that offer quality and quantity for almost half this price.

They have a small selection of baked goods and ice cream flavors that seem to change often. The creamsicle ice cream had delicious flavor but there were bits of something waxy throughout it that I didn't enjoy. I had a chocolate chip cookie that was perfectly salty sweet and perfectly soft. Love the inclusive vibes and kind service.

The staff are always pleasant and serve up your order quickly. At some times they will make a window service line available as well. The shop has a great variety of flavors, and rotates a few seasonal options through. My favorite is Coconut during the summer. In the past it has been a bit of a unicorn flavor here, but this summer I've found it on my past 3 visits! My second choice is the Peanut Butter Fantasy. Prices seem to be on par for premium ice cream. They do accept credit cards as well. There are a few tables inside the shop if you care to sit and enjoy your ice cream inside. Restrooms are also available.

Lots of ice cream options to choose from but I liked that they also have seasonal flavors and so I chose one from that list which was the Graham Central Station and of course the NH Pure Maple Nut. Both were delicious! Inside was a bit old fashioned and dark though so I appreciate the few outdoor seats that they have - Especially since my ice cream started dripping. Location wise, it was a bit busy in Ceres street that day especially since it's close to Moran Towing, restaurants and shops, etc so sometimes it could get a bit crowded and well..not the cleanest looking. Not their fault of course.
