So on our way home we trekked down 1A to Rye, NH looking for this place. Well worth the stop, easy to place order and wait was minimal. Got the fluffy chowder and hot buttered lobster roll. The chowder was outstanding with good amount of lobster meat mixed in with the clams. My wife and I were in the area and decided to stop in for lunch. On the menu board only a limited items have prices, the rest do not. When it was my turn to order, I asked how much the lobster bisque was? She said $11.99. Then I asked how much Holy Cow was. The woman looked up price in the tablet and said it was $13.99. Her attitude was very impatient. Since the soup was only 8oz and I was hungry, I ordered the sandwich. I settled on sourdough bread for the sandwich. Haha, for this price, I was thinking it would be real sourdough. Nope, it was white sandwich bread that costs less than 30 cents probably. The same woman who took the order delivered our meal. She had a very cold attitude toward us while she was obviously more pleasant and polite to other customers. If she was aggravated by people asking about price of items, they should make effort to write price next to all items. We were just traveling by and have no plan to go back again. What a gem of a spot in Rye NH! Found this place when doing a search for Lobster Bisque. Read the great reviews and off we went for a quick lunch. It is a quaint place with a small parking lot but it is a spot that needs to be a stop if you are in the area. You will not find a friendlier staff working behind the counter. So lovely and helpful! The lobster- well it was superb! They serve hot and cold lobster rolls and even mini rolls which is what we got to have with our soup. Such a great idea! The mini roll was a perfect size and lobster well buttered and fresh. We tried two different soups the fluffy chowder which is clam chowder with lobster meat on top and lobster bisque with lobster on top. The fluffy chowder is VERY popular. When we stopped in for lunch, there was a line of 10 people waiting to order and everyone in front of us was getting it- one after the other some getting as much as 6 quarts. I have to say of the two soups- our favorite was the bisque. It was so flavorful, thick, and full of lobster. It's good to note they also open early to serve breakfast and have a variety of non-lobster sandwiches which looked good as well. Phenomenal chowder! My daughter and I were driving through NH and stopped here for lunch. They have chowder, lobster bisque, and lobster rolls among other menu items. The fluffy chowder is full of clams topped with a mound of lobster meat that was fresh and cooked perfectly. The bisque was so rich and smooth (also topped with a handful of lobster)! They also have a mini lobster roll which is nice when you want to eat two bowls of chowder (trust me you do!) Being from Texas, I had a few hours to kill, a colleague suggested a drive down NH 1A. I was lunch time, and a quick search for "lobster rolls near me" landed me here. It's quaint, nostalgic, and loaded with personality. (That's just the building!) The staff was exceptionally friendly and quick with suggestions. I just wanted a lobster roll, but when the hostess recommended the "Fluffy" and a seated customer yells, "It's wicked good!" I just had to order that too. There was no line when I arrived (About 11:45am) and service was so prompt that customers were in and out quickly. This is a brand new spot toward the center of Rye, and an outpost of the Rye Harbor Lobster Pound. We're told the spot at Rye Harbor is famous for "Fluffy Chowder" and their hot/cold lobster rolls, but never had a chance to stop by. Fortunately we were able to get one of the last parking spots and found this place to be busy with a long line of folks. The folks taking orders were very nice and apologized for the delay, but it really wasn't very long at all. In addition to the items I mention, they have a variety of (non seafood) sandwiches, salads and a pretty wide variety of baked goods. As we had never tried the "fluffy chowder", that was our pick. So, what is it? They serve a creamy delicious new england style clam chowder and top it with lobster meat that is cooked in butter and sherry. It made for a delicious combination and given the price of lobster at the moment, we found the portion to be generous for the price. There was large chunks on top, with sherry. The bisque was creamy and decadent, with chunks of lobster throughout. It was incredibly delicious! I then had the hit lobster roll. I've been reading about "fluffy" chowder all summer on Facebook, so when we had a free afternoon last week my husband decided to drive to Rye to try it for the first time. The Hungry Lobster is not much more than a food shack - very small with limited parking. We arrived just after 12 on a weekday and found a parking spot pretty quickly - I believe most of their lunchtime business is takeout so the spots open up pretty quickly. There was only one person in line ahead of us. We both ordered a large "fluffy" chowder and grabbed 2 bottles of water to go. Service was quick and friendly. Ten minutes later we were parked at the beach eating our chowder - it was hot and very tasty. A rich creamy chowder base with a bit of lobster bisque on top along with a generous portion of lobster meat. I ordered the Cup of Fluffy Chowder ($9 plus tax) and a Hot Lobster Roll with Lays potato chips ($28 plus tax). The fluffy Chowder was excellent, very creamy chowder with clams, potato, and lobster meat in a butter sherry sauce, oyster crackers included. The hot Lobster roll was served on a toasted New England hot dog run with tender pieces of lobster meat cooked in a butter sherry sauce. Overall, though on the pricier side for food, I loved the fluffy Chowder and I will get a bowl next time. The lobster roll was good and very tasty too, but not big.
