First time here today! Wow! I love this place. Super friendly as you can see from other reviews…read more And! Very funny, the gentleman, as we walked in, asked if it was one of our birthdays?! Odd, as we were not in festive dress, but it was my partners birthday! He was cutting some amazing ribeye, and that's what we were looking for--he said he got us, and wow. Take a look at those steaks! Selection is good! But, a small place can't be expected to have 100s of items, but everything is carefully chosen and fresh. I'll be back for those oxtails for sure! Also, there was a very wonderful lady there with her fresh baked goods, not sure if that's a regular thing or or a pop up, but shout out to the strawberry pound cake. This is now going to be our regular spot for great meats! As far as price goes, I would say competitive with Gartner's and even some groceries, but this place is special, so you get what you pay for. Oh, and there's a big parking lot in the back, which is great on the busy street.

It is as though you take a step back in time, where customer service mattered and you have a butcher who cares. It doesn't matter if you get a greenhorn meat cutter or the Owner you treated the exact same with respect. They still use the take a number from the roll method. It doesn't matter the day, it doesn't matter how busy they are you are always treated like the only person in the market. Their breakfast sausage loose or in links is fantastic. I haven't found a better flavored sausage anywhere. Any of their smoked meats are to write home about. We like their soaked beef short ribs. Have your grill HOT and be ready to grill with those ribs. Their habanero BBQ sauce is delicious spicy good. If It's meats you want! it is meats Gartners delivers. I could go through each item in the cases from the ham to the brisket and tell you why each thing is better than the next!! I recently started vising a meat store by my work. I got some sausages. When I got home there was a pube in the package. In 30+ years of getting my meat at gartners I've never had anything extra wrapped with my meat. Another fine example of why Gartner's stands the test of time!! Thanks Gartner's!

I have visited Gartner's Meat Market about ten times now, and overall I've been pleased with both…read morethe quality of their products and my experiences there. I was excited to find a quality local meat market in the Portland area, especially given how few dedicated butcher shops remain. Unfortunately, I feel obligated to share a recurring issue that has left me questioning whether I will continue shopping here. On my visit today, it appeared that I was overcharged again. If this had happened only once, I would have assumed it was a simple mistake. However, this is now the fourth time in a row that I've encountered what I believe to be an overcharge, and at least twice it has involved the same employee. On two previous occasions when I noticed the discrepancy and brought it to the butcher's attention, he reviewed the transaction, acknowledged the error, apologized, and issued a credit. Because of those experiences, I felt confident that mistakes could happen and would be corrected. Today, however, when I raised a similar concern, my concern was explained away. I didn't have time to ask that everything be reweighed, so I left feeling frustrated and, unfortunately, taken advantage of. To be clear, I have generally found the staff to be friendly and professional, and I've been consistently happy with the quality of the products. That's what makes this issue so disappointing. When the same type of billing discrepancy happens repeatedly, it becomes difficult to view it as an isolated mistake. I sincerely hope this is the result of a training or process issue rather than anything intentional. Gartner's has a good product and fills an important niche in the community. However, after experiencing this multiple times, I am seriously reconsidering whether I can continue shopping here with confidence.

I purchased some of everything, including a pie, and everything we've tried so far has exceeded my hopes. The best part is the products are sourced fairly close. No meat from Australia here. I recommend the asada for two, though honestly it's probably enough for three. It's a lot, but everything is delicious. Even if you aren't usually into sweet breads or morcilla, this is executed so perfectly that it's worth a shot. We ordered one of the daily specials, a beef tartare with arbol and peanut crunch, and were blown away. The best tartare I've ever had. For cocktails, we both had the ox blood and it surpassed expectations. Less sweet than we anticipated but that was a good thing. They started us off with a lovely cold soup, if I recall correctly leek and potato, and from there moved right into a lineup of heavy-hitting dishes that were packed with flavor. The beef tongue a la vinagreta was absolutely dynamite. Each piece of carpaccio was cut to the perfect thickness, which let it stand up beautifully to the punchiness of the spicy horseradish, acidic caper vinaigrette, earthy fried sweetbreads, and creamy ensalada rusa (potato salad). The clam chowder came out next, and while it was good as a standalone chowder, it was the one course that fell a little short for me. With smoked bone marrow in the mix and at the fairly high price point, I expected it to be more of a knockout, but it unfortunately just did not quite come together the way I hoped as the piece of marrow felt more decorative than additive to the flavors overall. Of course, we had to order one of the asados, so we opted for one of my absolute favorite cuts in the skirt steak and it did not disappoint! The steak was incredibly tender, cooked to perfection, and paired beautifully with their house made chimichurri sauce. Overall, it was a fantastic meal with great portions relative to the prices, and I'm definitely looking forward to returning next time I'm in the area to try some of the other offerings that we simply did not have the stomach space to try on this visit.

The atmosphere is buzzing even in the small hours, making it the perfect sanctuary for a late-night craving. It's the kind of place where the smell of charcoal and cumin hits you the moment you walk through the door, setting the stage for a solid, no-frills feast. The skewers are the undeniable stars of the show, especially the chicken skin, which was rendered down to a perfect, fatty crisp. Both the lamb and beef skewers were hit with a heavy-handed dusting of traditional spices, giving them that essential kick without overpowering the tender meat. Each bite had that authentic charred flavor that only comes from a high-heat grill, and they paired perfectly with the rest of the other food we ordered throughout the night. The absolute standout, however, was the eggplant in aluminum foil. It arrived bubbling in a pool of garlic-infused oil and soy, so incredibly soft that it practically melted off the skin. It provided a rich, savory contrast to the smokiness of the meat and is easily a must-order for anyone visiting. Between the great food and the reliable hours, this has officially become my new go-to for an after-hours meal.
