The birthing center here is top notch. Every single employee that works here is extremely helpful and extremely nice. I'm very thankful that this was the birthing center that we ended up deciding to have our baby at. Every staff member here actually shows you the care and give you the support you need, they are not pushy and and they make it very comfortable with both partners in the birthing process. I would highly recommend this birthing center to anyone that is looking for a place to give birth. My wife and I actually past up other hospitals and birthing centers because we were told how great it was, I'm very thankful for our experiences here and the care and treatment that we received. read more

The reasons for my negative review are many. My husband and i have been subject to substandard care provided by Sutter Davis for years. Only now, since changing hospitals, do we see how abysmal the quality of care we received was. Our family has been failed by Sutter Davis on multiple occasions on an institutional level. Our grievances with the hospital include outlandish diagnoses, egregious violations of confidentiality, and rude or even hostile relations with hospital staff. Following are a list of instances where Sutter Davis not only did not provide adequate medical care, but caused significant physical, emotional and mental harm to one or more members of my family. During my first pregnancy, As you may see on a previous Yelp review, our assigned midwife Blanch Skubic was a nightmare. She belittled me for making choices that would protect my unborn child, attacked me verbally about my desire to know the sex of my child, and criticized my marriage (including suggesting both counseling and DIVORCE). Once i went into labor, No epidural was made available to me upon request and the requested dula spent the majority of her time with me disinterestedly reading a magazine like it was her lunch break. Later i came to find not only did the staff talk poorly about my delivery as well as my husband and i during out stay after the delivery, but did so in front of other patients. The betrayal of any semblance of confidentiality is not only infuriating, but deeply disturbs me, as now i am unsure what of my medical history has been shared with strangers without my knowledge or consent. Our sons pediatric care was also unacceptable. Our pediatrician gave us fantastical diagnoses for ailments that proved to be quite mundane. An example of this is identifying a small diaper rash as a necrotic spider bite from a brown recluse (A spider who does not live in this state and in fact does not live within a thousand miles of this state). And despite our explaining we have not been to the southeastern united states, not had we had any recent neighbors, and had seen no such spider, he refused to entertain the idea that it could be anything other than a brown recluse bite. Another example is diagnosing a cough as pertussis and sending us via ambulance to the Sutter Memorial hospital pediatric ICU for 4 days, where our son showed no drop in oxygenation and no blood cultures showed pertussis (or any other major illness for that matter). My Husband recieved an Appendectomy at Sutter Davis which became massively infected, leaving him bedridden for weeks. My second pregnancy was a difficult one, and the difficulty was largely compounded by the lack of adequate care provided by Sutter Davis. Early on i began experiencing pain in my abdomen which was incorrectly identified as a side effect of my pregnancy, when it continued it was again misdiagnoses as appendicitis and despite the risks posed to my unborn daughter, i was pressured into what turned out to be an unnecessary appendectomy. When the pain did not go away afterwards it was a third time it was misdiagnosed as recovery from the surgery. When the pain would not go away my OB Dr. Beth Johnson informed me it was not going to get better and suggested i terminate the pregnancy. As my husband and i were adamant that we wanted to keep the baby, we sought a second opinion from a nurse practitioner also at Sutter Davis. After a few weeks she also said she could do nothing more for me and suggested i find another doctor. Discouraged my husband and i began to look for care elsewhere. Before we could find it though the pain became to great and we went to the Sutter Davis emergency room, where they told me the pain was constipation, and sent me home with a bottle of GoLYTELY. The next day, when i was unable to ingest it from the pain, we sought a second opinion and went to go see Dr. Blankenship at Sutter Family Medicine. She pointed out the urine test taken the night bofore had blood in it, which was news to us. The emergency room failed to mention this to us. She was concerned so sent us to the hospital to have a blood panel done. She got the results rushed, and saw there was a major problem with my C-Reactive Protein and coagulation levels, and advised us to return to the emergency room immediately. When we returned to the emergency room where the attending doctor told us our family doctor was wrong and sent us home with the exact same diagnosis and medicine as they had the night before. We drove from Sutter Davis to Sutter Roseville where i was immediately admitted due to what i would come to find out was my liver failing. Had we listened to the doctors at Sutter Davis my condition would have likely killed me and my unborn daughter. We received excellent and compassionate care at Sutter Roseville, and now that we have seen how medical care should be handled we realize exactly how poorly we were cared for at Sutter Davis. This review is for the OBGYN and birthing center only. The birthing center was one of the best experiences of my life. I was able to have a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) in a birthing tub, which was an absolute dream and allowed me to have my second son without any pain medication on April 10, 2013. Dr. Annette Fineburg is one of the most calming, patient, caring OBs I have ever encountered. She has a 75% success rate for VBAC births, an option most OBs won't even give a woman who has had a C-section. She even told me she vaginally delivered breech twins...she is superwoman of the uterus! I would recommend this place to any woman who wants to feel like she is in control of her body and her birthing. Who wants to feel respected and supported by the team of doctors and nurses on staff. We had mix experience during our delivery, the first night we had a great nurse but after that things went downhill fast. My water broke before we arrived to the hospital, my labor was not progressing much and later we found out that the doctors knew chances of natural labor were low since my uterus was heart shaped which made me wonder why they would make me go through all that pain and all that time if I asked several times about just doing the c-section. After the 24 hours of useless pain the doctor finally said we are going to do the surgery since we don't think it's going to go the natural way and it was then that they told us they knew about the heart shaped uterus. After the surgery things didn't get any better. The nurse that was on duty the first night was not helpful at all and treated me like a druggy when I was in pain and trying not to take pain meds but I couldn't avoid the pain :/ After all the mess in the hospital we kept getting bills from the hospital and after 7 months of calling them we finally just asked our insurance to call them and resolve the issue for us since they clearly don't know how to file bills properly and even sent our bill to a collecting agency and our insurance company said they had never sent the bill to them. It took a call to sutter corporate office and at least 10 calls to sutter billing department and a crying supervisor hanging up on my husband because he wouldn't listen to her explain the same thing a rep explained the first call instead of listening to my husband on how they had not filed properly the bill. After that is when we called corporate and asked our insurance to just call them and resolve the issue since they clearly didn't know how to do their job at sutter. read more

Since my regular doctor back in San Francisco is closed on the weekends. It's really hard for me make it back in time on friday to see her whenever I'm not feeling so well. That's where Sutter hospital comes in. Since they refuse to just set me up with a doctor I'm only going to see whenever i'm sick, I'm forced to use their urgent care service. Which is fine with me.. usually i make an appointment. show up there on time and wait about 15 minutes in the waiting room and another 10 in the patient room. The doctor sees me for about 5-10 minutes total then prescribes me some medicine and sends me off. For a place that's advertises their after hour care as Urgent care, their service sure is not fast paced enough for someone who needs well.."URGENT CARE". Thank god the numerous times I've been there I wasn't dying of pain (although i felt like i was!). Although I have to give them some props for being the only medical center around the area that's open late. Be aware of their inconsistency with billing. Twice they said I hadn't paid yet when my insurance covers everything. Another time they said AAA refused payment for a checkup after my car accident.. after a few phone calls to sutter hospital and AAA it turns out sutter didn't even BILL AAA for the hospital bill. :( read more

Whether your comming to the ER or here for lab tests the staff is always friendly knowledgable and make you feel like everything will be ok. I have been a patient here for 20years. When my sons apendix ruptured we came to the ER and they got him into surgery immediately. The nurses all did such a great job of calming us both down that i was able to fall asleep while he was in surgery. All went well and he was home a few days later. I go to family medicine occupational health lab and womens care all in the same hospital. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!! read more

All I gotta say is, been there once for a friend and it took 5 long hours. Been there once myself and took 3 long hours. (This is regarding the ER). They are very slow, and I understand that they don't call you in order of coming in but in order of how urgent your cause needs attention, however, everytime I get to the back I see half of these people chit chat and whatnot. They are super slow here and they dont seem to give a S*** about the patients personal or medical needs. They have a chop shop mentallity with people in the Main ER building. The doctor on duty was this old man who was kind at first, then once i told him im tired of waiting in pain he called me a Menace!!? when i was in obvious pain suffering from my chronic illness. Caveat Emptor! I was offered a flu shot, and I said sure. Later I got billed $70 for it, which I paid through my HSA. Everyone knows you can get a flu shot at Rite-Aid for less than $30. Also, I got several warnings about a late bill (which I ignored b/c I knew I paid them). I eventually cleared it up and they admitted making a mistake. They systems are all messed up, so make sure that you don't double pay. I like the care that I received from the physicians, the lab techs and the nurses. But overall their admin department is horrible. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place! I live about 25 miles away and have been happy to make this drive since I first got pregnant. I LOVED the midwives, they were great through my whole pregnancy. The birth center was amazing, I had the perfect water birth and the staff was one hundred percent supportive and accommodating through the whole thing. If you are looking to have a natural hospital birth, this is the place! My baby now sees Dr. Oberholtzer and has since the day she was born. Dr. O and his staff are so great, I really can't say enough about this hospital. read more

I had a 3 min exam to examine a patch of skin. They charged my insurance $900 dollars, $300 of which I have to pay out of pocket. Oh and the prognosis? I need to use lotion. I asked their office why I was never quoted a price, and that I had no idea how much this would have cost or I never would have been seen, and they played dumb and said they can't quote you a price because of "regional differences" and it's based off the doctor's assessment, blah blah. Even my dentist can quote me a price before and after insurance premiums. I do not accept their bill, their excuses, and I will not be using their services again. read more

This Sutter hospital ER was able to get my boyfriend in and out within 2-3 hours. I applaud you guys for that because we're usually stuck in the ER at UC Davis hospital in sac for 6-12 hours. I recently had a referral from my doctor for some bloodwork in order to get a couple of medical tests done. I was given a date to come to Sutter's laboratory in Davis and told I could come any time during the day. I did not have to fast, which was awesome! I got in at about 10:15am and waited about 15 minutes in a busy waiting room for my blood to be drawn. It would've been nicer if I could've just gotten an appointment rather than walking in, but the wait was much better than I was expecting for having no appointment. Once I got called in the technician was very fast and professional. I was in and out in under 60 seconds. Other than the slight prick when blood was drawn, this was a pretty painless experience! Hopefully I won't need to get any more blood drawn in Davis, but if I do I know where to head. read more

Hands down the nicest Emergency Department staff I have ever dealt with. They were kind to me when I was in awful pain. They did everything they could to keep me comfortable in the waiting room, even brought me fresh towels! They were very apologetic about the long wait time to get seen. When I finally did get seen, the nurse and doctor were incredibly nice. They quickly got my pain under control. The next day, I received a follow up call the the ER to see how I was feeling. I have a chronic illness and I visit Emergency Rooms about twice a year. The ER was completely different from all others. They are angels here. read more

I knew what my problem was when I came here, even did some research. These people expect doctors to be miracle workers or magicians. I know they do there best but they are ER doctors not specialists. This is for the ER / urgent care facility. I was lucky to get there at 4 AM when there wasn't anyone else waiting. The nurses were so kind, and the Dr I saw as well. I did still have to do some waiting around but that's to be expected, I wasn't in nearly as much of an emergency as I'm sure other people were. With my insurance I'm very happy with the price, and happy to have quick care 5 minutes away. read more

First I would like to say that the staff was always great. I previously wrote a review after having another issue with billing. However, upon calling in a speaking with someone they were able to resolve the issue very fast. I even received an email from someone representing Sutter who had explained the issue with their quality manager. They apologized for the issues and asked to speak with me soon in order to fix the problems. I greatly appreciated being helped when I called and being personally contacted. So although I had some problems in the past, between the great staff, the quick resolution, and the message I have changed my rating to 5 stars. My only issue previously was the billing, so now I am highly satisfied with the hospital. To anyone who has billing issues I would say don't give up because there are many wonderful members of the staff who want to help you. read more

My child is under 2 months with a fever and cough, the staff this time around were very helpful and did what they could to make sure we where comfortable. Don't use this emergency room. You might get in and out quicker but if you have an unseen condition they will not check for anything. I was seen there last Tuesday. I got into a gown The doctor came in and asked me a few questions when I told her I had an old Implanon in my arm she totally disregarded any pain I had. I initially went in for a pregnancy test because the pain I was having was so abnormal and the doctor told me that the pain I was having in my left side of my pelvis was cramping from abnormal periods related to my Implanon birth control in my arm which has been expired since March. I told her that The pain I was having was not normal for me. She said she was positive it was because of it. She did no testing on me she made me feel as if it was all in my head I got a second opinion and found out that I have a big mass on the left side over my uterus and ovaries that could possibly be cancerous.I called back to speak to a manager just to let them know what I had went through so maybe they can coach their doctors to better help diagnose other people who might potentially have bigger problems then mine. She totally disregarded anything I was saying she didn't apologize she showed no compassion the first thing out of her mouth was "what do you want me to do about it" It wasn't until I mentioned potentially contacting a lawyer that she stated she would make an Incident report and take it to the higher ups. Which I'm not even sure will really happen. I've been going to this ER since I was a child.Please stay away from this place go to somewhere that shows more humility to their patients. I have had two traumatic labors here that resulted in postpartum depression and anxiety, and due to limitations of my insurance which I am currently fighting, may have to have a third labor here. Despite being told by my primary care doctor at Sutter and the obstetric doctors at Sutter Women's Health in Davis that there is overwhelming medical reason for my next labor to be induced due to several risk factors, the midwives at this practice have refused to support the doctor recommendation, and while they also will not come right out and say that I will not receive a 39-week induction, they have told me I should go to another practice because, and I am quoting the midwife Blanche Skubic, "Here we believe that birth is normal and want to serve people who believe in that, but what you want is a medical birth." Yes. Of course I want a "medical birth" after previous traumatic labors- which is why I am going to OB appointments and wish to give birth at the hospital! As does everyone else who gives birth there. If her personal opinion is that unmedicated births are the only "normal" ones, that should be her personal problem, it should not impact my safety or my baby's safety! Is this a medical practice or a cult? I have filed formal complaints regarding negligence and substandard care with the Department of Health, Medical Board of California, and the Joint Commission. I have heard from other women who gave birth here that they felt discriminated against for requesting pain medication and were refused pain medication despite there being no medical reason to refuse their requests. One friend who did actually receive an epidural hours after requesting one said that it only worked to numb the right side of her body. I would not recommend this birthing center or OB practice to anyone who wishes to give birth with an option to receive pain medications/anesthesia or any medical intervention. read more

Everything has been amazing from the start! All of my OB visits, scheduling accommodations, staff attitudes, efficiency, honesty, patient advocacy... I work in an incredible health care office, & I've been thoroughly impressed coming here. The nurses & Dr's have LISTENED to me and my concerns/questions, and addressed them immediately every single time. The delivery of my son was intimate, light-hearted, & very personal (Unlike the delivery of my first son at a different hospital!). Post-partum was fantastic, both delivering Dr's came in to check on me every day I was there, & the staff really made sure I was taken care of. After I got home, I received a card signed by everyone who was part of my experience. I feel comfortable reaching out to ask for anything, & know that I will be taken care of. Had a couple issues here. First time I went in with another flare-up of MRSA. They were busy and had to sit me out in a bed in the hall so I was a little grumpy about that, but they pumped me full of antibiotics. Unfortunately I got itchy as can be so they gave me some benadryl and backed off on the medication. An hour later, they let me go with a prescription for some antibiotics. I was fine after that, easy peasy. The second time I came here with a 105 degree fever and just felt pretty crappy all around. Waited FOREVER, but they finally admitted me. They did the usual, ran me through all the tests and told me I had bronchitis. Sent me home with more antibiotics. The male nurse was friendly, as was the doctor, but they seemed a little confused with what I had. Couple days later, flared up with a severe rash. Went back, they gave me benadryl and sent me home. I kinda wish they were a little more informative, but whatever. Overall, the place is alright, nothing special. Not the first place I'd choose to go if I needed a doctor, but it's a hospital and has an ER, so you have to take that with a grain of salt. read more

It was not busy when I arrived and I was only there for two hours. I felt safe at this location. There were two police officers parked outside. DO NOT SEE DR JAMIL CARTER AT WOMENS HEALTH This is about the women's health center and 1 particular Dr only. I and my family have been with sutter for 20+ yrs. My sibling were born there, my children were born there. We have been seeing Dr lui for our general care for longer than I can remember and I have always had great experiences. I was without insurance for a few yrs but I get insanely bad migraines which landed me in the ER a couple times a yr and I was always promptly taken care of with excellent care. Billing always helped me with the charity funding. I have been having some serious health problems lately. I waited 2 weeks to see the obgyn, I scheduled with a male I've never seen before, I wasn't comfortable with it but I have been in a lot of pain and have some precancerous stuff going on. Anyways I go to my appt and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. He wouldn't listen to a word I was trying to say, he would keep interrupting me and brushed my concerns off. I kept trying to explain how I felt and why I wanted the procedure that I did and he refused to listen to me, he spoke to me in such a condescending and demeaning tone. I was in shock. I have never been treated this way by a health care "professional" I am not a stupid person, I work in the medical field, I understand how things work, I understand the lingo. But he refused to acknowledge that I knew what I was talking about. He refused to believe that I knew where and why I was in pain. Luckily I had my mother with me (she wanted to make sure someone was advocating for my health and my husband couldn't make it) and she reamed him a new one. He even refused to prescribe me pain medication. Even tho I have been with them for how long? I have never asked for pain meds, except when I broke my foot) he said he isn't comfortable with it! I shouldn't be treated like a drug addict because I'm in pain. So my mom had to take me downstairs to the ER to be treated for my pain , which they promptly did. Dr zaragosa (sp?) Was amazing. The ER was very busy but he sat down and listened to everything I had to say, he ordered tests which should have been done before but no Dr had even suggested. Fiona was my nurse and she was wonderful. I was so dejected and embarrassed and broken after being treated like garbage by "Dr" Jamil Carter at the obgyn. This man should not be a Dr. Anyone who is in the healthcare profession knows that bedside manner is almost more important than actual treatment. That humans should be treated with respect. That what we have to say about our own bodies matters. Now I have to wait another month in pain to see a competent obgyn. I've already missed too much work, so now I have to work thru the pain for 30 more days because he's a waste of oxygen. Maybe if he put more effort into being a decent doctor and less effort into his stupid costume things would have been better. (Literally a costume. He had this stupid plaid shirt, a bow tie and these ridiculous probably fake glasses) if he wants to play Dr he should do it somewhere where actual people's health isn't on the line. Birthing Center Review: I switched from Sutter Memorial to Sutter Davis when we were about 24 weeks pregnant. So glad we switched. This birth was the best experience of my life! I wanted a natural birth and the doctors at Sutter Memorial did not seem supportive. At Sutter Davis, the midwife (Jessica) and nurses were so genuinely attentive to us. Each visit there was informative and calming- never rushed, demeaning, or intrusive. They are "hands off" and just let you be pregnant and labor as nature intended, but if you have problems they deal with them. They are equipped to perform C-sections, give epidurals and other medications just like any other hospital, but they are supportive and encouraging if you want a natural birth. Since it was our first baby, we attended the "Centering Pregnancy" appointments which involved meeting once a month (more often at the end of pregnancy) with the midwife and several other pregnant couples for about 2 hours. She would take our vitals and check the baby's heartbeat, position, measurements, and have one-on-one time with you. Then you have discussion with her and the other couples together. It was a great way to become educated about pregnancy and birth while making connections with other families with babies the same age. Thanks to education about childbirth, a healthy pregnancy, great nurses, expert midwife and a FREE doula, we were able to have a completely unmedicated water birth with no interventions, in 7-8 hours. And she was a week "late", 9lbs 3oz, with a nuchal hand. Try that at Sutter Memorial and they will induce you, give you an epidural, episiotomy, then give up and do vacuum extraction or a C-section anyway. I'm not kidding or exaggerating- I hear this from several new moms who delivered there. It's appalling. The facility was spacious and clean, showers and toilets in each labor room, birthing tubs in two of the labor rooms (these also have showers and toilets), LED candles, sound machines and dim lights for relaxing during labor. The baby does not leave your room EVER unless there are problems with the child. Family is welcome to attend the birth, but there is a nice waiting area with comfy couches and chairs like you would find in your own living room. The post partum recovery rooms are all private with showers in the bathrooms, sound machines, TVs (I think...we never turned it on), thermostats and windows, and a pull out chair for an adult to sleep in. The baby rooms in with you and there are lactation consultants available at any time. They feed you a TON of food right after you deliver and it's pretty good, too! No shortage of chocolate cake and they even offer you a midnight snack. It's a relatively small birth center so the nurses aren't running around too busy to answer your questions or take their time with you. The midwives at Sutter Davis are the experts on pregnancy and childbirth. This is the best place in the Sacramento area to have your baby and learn about this completely natural process women have been doing for centuries of centuries. This review is based on my experience at the Birthing Center at Sutter Davis. Nurse Christi and Dr. Zoe Tilton really was our savior and we will forever be grateful for their help. At 36 weeks we found out that our baby was no longer in position and was breech. It was so stressful because it is my 2nd pregnancy and I had already envisioned a vaginal birth since my previous one was. I value a natural birthing process and wanted to avoid a c-section. I wish I had known of Davis Sutter Birthing center sooner. We live in San Jose, Ca. and unfortunately we did not receive very much network/support or even information on options from our local health care providers in the area. We actually changed 2 OBs within the last 4 weeks but it was the same scenario all the OBs (in the South Bay) do not offer/no longer breech vaginal delivery, they only offered us one option which was cesarean. I really have to say it was a miracle how we stumbled on meeting Dr. Zoe Tilton. At 40 weeks I received a phone call from Dr. Tilton following up on a phone call I had made a week earlier but never followed through on my end. I was trying to look for a Doctor who would help me perform a ECV (version to turn the baby). But sort of gave up hope since my OB (at the time) said, they wouldn't do it due to the location of placenta. Dr. Zoe TIlton said, she would meet me and base on our phone conversation she did not see it being a problem. I was blown away most doctor offices wouldn't go beyond a sentence when they heard that I am in my last trimester. For a doctor who has never met me and the fact that I was 40 going on 41 weeks pregnant was really amazing. The part that was so touching is Dr. Tilton actually came in on her day off to meet me to preform the version. We drove to Davis the next morning to attempt the version. The moment I met nurse Christi and Dr. Tilton I had an instant connection and I would trust them with my life. They were so kind and listened to my concerns and did not over-impose with any medical procedures. Unfortunately, despite of the Dr. best effort to turn the baby, she wouldn't budge and remained in the same position. I was appreciative for their efforts and decided that day that I would stay w/my local OB in Mt. View and proceed w/a c-section. With a heavy heart we left and drove home to San Jose. Things escalated with our OB in Mountain View, Ca. and our local OB at the time kept imposing so much medical intervention on us especially persuading us to move the c-section date sooner without a firm probable cause. I was constantly, asking my OB (at the time) why we need 3 stress test back to back when all of them indicated baby was happy, also why she would be concerned with the placenta bleeding when ultrasound and stress test did not indicate complications. It turned out, that my OB received a fax from Sutter Davis in regards, to my EVC few days earlier, my OB (at the time) was very upset that I had gone to another Dr. to get an EVC performed despite of the fact that she did not feel I was a good candidate for that procedure. My personal views and our OB were like fire and water. The relationship continued getting more awkward especially 1 day before my scheduled c-section. It was important to me to have a doctor who would be supportive of their patients views and respect them. I knew I couldn't continue on with her, but how was I suppose to find another OB at almost 41 weeks?! I contacted Sutter Davis and amazingly they took me in as their patient even though I was almost 41 weeks along. Nurse Christi (significant help arranged for me to come in) went above and beyond to help me get an appointment ASAP to meet with Dr. Zoe Tilton. As, I mentioned previously, I felt an instant trust and connection w/them from our earlier meeting and it really made a difference. I returned to Davis hoping that I would meet the criteria for a vaginal breech delivery and at Sutter Davis. However, between just a few days (from our initial meeting) the baby's leg shifted from being a complete breech position to a footling. I was disappointed because I no longer met the criteria for a breech vaginal delivery, however compared to what we experienced with our previous OB's this was much more relaxing and tension free. I knew that Dr. Tilton had tried her best to honor my requests. We even, tried for version one last time before a c-section. Baby, still didn't budge so I did ended up with a cesarean. Although, in the end I did not end up with the natural vaginal delivery I so badly, desired. It was still amazing to see the facility's atmosphere and I truly feel lucky to be cared for by their staffs. The atmosphere was super relaxing and every nurse that interacted with me was very personable. Thank you so much Sutter Davis Birthing center! I truly, wish that this Birthing center will help influence other birthing hospitals to have the same warm, natural and caring approach/model. read more

My parents were in a gnarly car accident and were taken to the ER at Sutter Davis. Dr. Michael J. Palchak looked after them. My father was let go with a broken leg and some meds. Other than soreness, they couldn't find anything wrong with my mother, and let her go with meds. My mother continued to complain about her pain, especially in her chest, so I took her back to Sutter Davis, Urgent Care, then ER, where we saw Dr. Palchak again a week later. We sat there 8 hours and after another examination found nothing. It's been 3 weeks and my mothers pain and swelling is only now starting to go down. After a recent visit to her general practitioner, they discovered my mother had broken her sternum and 5 ribs. Now sure how two separate visits to Sutter Davis ER overlooked this seemingly major injury. Very disappointed by the piss poor care given to my mother under the care of Dr. Palchak and Sutter Davis ER. read more

I had a concussion 2 years back where I had temporary memory loss. My friend took me to the ER where it took at least 1 hour to be given a room and at least 3 hours for a Dr. to come see me. By the time the doctor got around to seeing me, I had already begun regaining my memory. I understand ERs can be hectic so this wasn't as much of a problem to me. After they took a CT scan and sent me out, I asked if I owed anything. They said that insurance would cover the charges and anything extra would be billed to me. 2 years later, they call me at 8 o clock in the morning (which is pretty uncourteous) and tell me there's balance on my account of 200 something dollars. They asked me if I've checked my mail, which I haven't for a week. They ask me when I will be making my payment and I tell them I will check my mail. They ask me again, "When will you be making your payment." and I say by the end of the week. She says okay, I'll make a notation of that and hangs up. Her tone and the way she was asking me about my payment was rude. Not to mention, she woke me up on my day off work. Bad telephone etiquette. I work with insurance constantly at my dental office and I know that insurance companies shouldn't take so long to respond, and even if they did there should be patient communication involved. The only billing notification I received and mentioned earlier said that if I didn't respond promptly, I would be sent to a collection agency. Collection agency = ruin your credit. I paid off my bill, but I think it's appalling that my credit could be ruined so easily when the hospital responds in an untimely manner. The extra star because the staff was friendly at time of service. Update Edit (08/15/2011): Going to take a star off because they sent me another bill and double-billed me for the same amount while saying one charge was for the hospital and one was for the physicians office. I fought this bill and they finally agreed that the bills were the same. It took a half day to settle this and the customer service was rude, one even hung up on me when I asked for the manager. If I didn't fight the bill that would've sucked because I would've been charged twice for hundreds. They are pretty unethical. The hospital was also pressing me to pay the second bill or send me out to collection, so I was forced to pay it. Now I have to wait for the refund check to be sent in the mail. Update Edit (12/20/2011): Refund check came in mail 2 months after being requested refund. read more

Severely lacks humanity. Two horrid experiences with his hospital, one where I was repeatedly asked to sign documents while under painkillers that gave me double vision prior to and left me fog headed after surgery, and another where I was held under false pretenses attempting (but failing) to revisit the hospital to ask if I could see the room where this had all happened. Should have, at worst, been taken in for loitering -- and was instead held for months for supposed paranoid schizophrenia, something that had not even been suggested by therapists I saw for my actual anxiety issues for years prior despite constant nagging on my part about what could possibly be wrong with me. Much better experience with UCD health center -- which should not be much of a shock. read more

Always treated with the upmost respect. Very professional. However my health condition was misdiagnosed here and it wasn't until I went to UC Davis hospital that my health problem was addressed. Just be sure to get a second opinion and ask a lot of questions! read more

I went there with my 93 year old mother to get her second Covid Vaccine shot yesterday. She had gotten the first shot there and this second shot appointment was scheduled at the time of the first shot. After waiting a while, we went up to the receptionist/nurse for the second shot as scheduled and the person says that my mother is 2 days early and that she cannot get the shot. We show this person the CDC vaccine card with the date and the fact that Sutter scheduled her today. The person said you need to come back in 2 days, but that Sutter has cancelled all appointments because they do NOT have any vaccine. The CDC says that a person can get the second shot up to 4 days early from the Moderna vaccine, which means anywhere from 24 to 28 days after the first shot. Sutter does NOT know what they are doing. They did not save a second shot for my 93 year old mother and now we must find another place to get a second shot for her. Sutter does not know what they are doing. This is really poor care and planning. It appears that they are not planning for or saving vaccine for the second shot. You may get the first shot at Sutter, but you may not be able to get the second shot there. read more

Delivered our first child here 10/30/10. She was16 days late and arrived after 41 hours of labor (including 5 hours of pushing). One of the most positive experiences of my life (despite the pain). Talented, professional, compassionate staff (midwives, nurses, doctors, and god bless him anesthesiologist). Couldn't recommend a birthing center more!!! read more

Care was good. No wait to be seen on a Sunday at 1am, but another 1 hour wait in the exam room, before they finally put 3 stitches in my head. I got care from 4 different people, but that's just how it is in general at hospitals in the US. The cut healed fine after a week. Had the stitches removed at another ER and all was well. No complaints there. Billing was a nightmare. The bill still hasn't arrived, and I need it ASAP for my overseas insurance. I made 5 phone calls to get a hold of the Sutter Davis Hospital billing department and the number that finally worked for me was calling the billing service number: (916) 978-8850 First, this number just gave me 2 options, neither of which was what I wanted - I just wanted them to send/ re-send my bill, since I needed it soon for my insurance. But I stayed on the line and suddenly the options changed, so that I had the option to actually talk to a real person! She was very helpful, confirmed my billing address, and reassured me that the bills should arrive..eventually. Said they had just sent them out, 3 weeks after my date of visit! read more
